"Great architecture and decor"
Lobby area is very nice. Loved the gardens, and decor. Breakfast was good. Room was clean. Wish we could have spent more time exploring all the parts of this hotel, very unique and done well. Impressed!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but overpriced with unfriendly staff."
I have arrived late evening/early morning at less expensive hotels before and received a much more positive and helpful reception from the hotel staff. I'm not asking for my shoes to be cleaned or even a glass of water, I think a smile would've been suffice. However, I don't remember seeing the woman that greeted me even crack a smile at any point during […] our exchange. I may not have even cared as much about the per hour charge on late check-out after 10.30am. But, I do. I think that really stinks. Also, the room door key kept sticking (it's an actual metal key) and I think that just made things feel worse. However, the room itself was clean and the bathroom was pretty nice. I think the hotel could've been more charming, if we had received better service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice,but could use some updating."
We stayed here some 20 years ago when it looked newer. The staff is very nice and helpful and it is a good location. It is quiet and removed from the earthquake area, but just a walk thru the park will get you in the center. The restaurant was not answering there phone and when we arrived downstairs for dinner they were overcrowded and the wait would have […] been an hour or more. There are many good restaurants just a short drive away so that's what we did. The outside pool is very nice and quiet, set within the gardens. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very dated hotel"
Hotel was very old and didn't feel especially clean. Neighborhood didn't seem very safe to be out walking about.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall very good"
Great location and service, clean and functional. In need of updating which looks like they've just begun. Easy airport access. Laundry machines were a bonus, though old they worked fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel. Great staff. Free WiFi (4hrs/day)"
A very nice hotel. It is not like the modern chains you might see in the US. It does look like a private (non-chain) hotel you might find off the beaten path. It was clean and the staff was nice and very helpful. We particularly liked that 4 hours of free WiFi were provided every day which we found to be much more than the other (non-Auckland) New Zealand […] hotels we stayed in. The food was a bit above average but only that. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was very nice and very clean. It was across the park so only about a 5-10 minute walk from downtown (which unfortunately was mostly shut down due to the earthquake last year). The service was great here and the food in the restaurant was also good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Remarakable in spite of quakes"
Having just finished 21 days on the road I was eager to check into my room. It was only 10:30 am but the gracious staff checked me right in, no questions or attitude. The hotel is still in repair from the earthquake but it seemed like business as usual. My 3rd floor room was fantastic. Comfortable bed, tea/coffee and cookies, large bathtub with nice […] products, a work area and a window which opened onto a view of greenery. Breakfast was not included but for $15 I got a cooked eggs, toast and coffee. Christchurch has a long way to go in terms of recovery but if your travels take you there try this hotel. "Could do with a 2 seater couch instead of the chai"
Great. Would return to this hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good deal through Hotels.com. Nice and quiet even with being located on Deans Ave, a very busy road. Would have liked larger beds, but as two double beds in room, could have one each!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great weekend away"
well organised and very helpful staff. Good meal alsoGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a very nice hotel. We had dinner in the restaurant and I can honestly say that it was one of the best meals I have ever had! Room was lovely - king size bed was amazing. The only thing I didn't like was that the pillows were very big (high) and I didn't sleep very well and ended up with a stiff neck. Apart from that it was amazing and we would […] definitely stay here again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great weekend rate"
Excellent rate for Friday night. Lovely quiet room. Bed cold when getting into it as there was no electric blanket. Management said it's hotel fire policy not to have electric blankets. Also no heater in bathroom - not good on a cold morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel. Good facilities, shame about the dirty toilet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good solid Hotel."
Extremely friendly and effficient staff, room however very dated.Genuine Expedia guest review
"well located for a short break"
20 mins walk across park to city centre but go just to enjoy gardens and see progress on restoring the centre so badly damaged in the earthquakes. The hotel is a high standard but next to busy road junction so don't expect quiet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel in Christchurch"
The hotel was convenient and he staff were friendly but our first room we were assigned to was very musty, they moved us to a better one without any fuss though.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A Nice Stay"
A pleasant hotel on the edge of the park. About a 1km walk to the City Centre however given that it is still largely affected by the 2011 Earthquake the preference was to head into Riccarton (about a 5 to 10 minute walk) for a large array of shops and restaurants. The hotel is undergoing a second phase of building works to repair damage and improve […] the hotel. The works didn't impact on our enjoyment of the hotel. It has a nice bar and bistro as well as a pleasant outdoor area, pool and well equipped gym. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly and go out of their way to make sure their guests' needs are catered for. Overall, a very nice stay and I would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Christchurch. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I think that the renovations done after the earthquake are really good. It is an especially comfortable place to stay. The gardens and pool area are beautiful. The carpets were not very clean in the rooms or in the general traffic areas. I noticed that the vacume cleaners were old and clearly not adequate. I mentioned this to the front desk staff. I […] had difficulty engaging staff in the breakfast area on the 25th and 26th December for coffee for the table and refills. I wonder if all staff have had training in hotel customer service. They appeared willing overall but not very polished. The most outstanding employee that we came across was a man called Roneel who was at work on the 26th December 2013. He was very helpful when we were by the pool but not obsequious. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very friendly staff, comfortable environment"
The hotel is under renovation to rectify some damage caused by the previous quake. But overall the location was very pleasant, the staff has been very friendly and helpful in recommending the places to visit in Christchurch. It is located just beside the Hagley park, which is a pleasant place for a stroll. They also provided shuttle to the train station. […] That time, I left my camera on the shuttle and the hotel staff and shuttle driver were very helpful in helping to retrieve it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Post-earthquake repairs occurring at the moment. Usually heaps of free parking but due to the back park being closed their didn't seem to be as much. On-site restaurant is convenient. Rooms are dated but the accommodation is comfortable. Staff are helpful and friendly, will stay there next time.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Welcome to the 80s!"
The staff at check- in was very friendly and keen to share her knowledge of local restaurants and attractions. The decor of the room, in particular the bathroom needs updating, I was reminded of the late 1970s or early 1980s.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, undergoing construction work!"
It was a mixed experience, I was staying at the Chateau for both business and pleasure with family. I was hoping to find a hotel I could return too time and time again, as Christchurch has become a city I will working in on a regular basis. On our arrival we were given two family rooms at the back of the hotel, which was in amongst the construction […] work that was being carried out following the earthquake. We were notified when we booked work would be going on at the reception / car park which shouldn't affect us. As part of our deal, we were also meant to have a bottle of champagne in our rooms when we arrived, which was not there and 3 phone call's/ 5.5 hours later it was then delivered. On our first morning we awoke to scaffolding and work men at our window and then when we went to breakfast ,we were told breakfast was not included in a very rude manner by a member of the breakfast staff, we had to go back to the room to find our booking confirmation which should have resolved the matter but unfortunately not. The very rude, abrupt member of staff shrugged her shoulders and said it's nothing to do with me, go to reception. This matter was eventually resolved and we were also given 2 new rooms located at the front of the hotel.. Our new rooms were bright, with a beautiful outlook and we did also meet some lovely, very helpful members of staff with the above exception, including the porters, trainee manager and reception team. On the whole we did enjoy our stay! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
An older hotel which for the quality is overpriced. The staff are good but the facilities are showing their age. There is also a daily arrival of bus tour companies which makes it very noisy at night with loud voices in the hallways making sleep difficult. Poor room soundproofing makes this situation worse. Breakfast buffet is basic but again the service […] is friendly and efficient. There were not enough newspapers for all guests. The location across the road from Hagley Park is lovely for walks and the gardens within the hotel are beautiful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent staff and location"
Although clearly still in the midst of repairing the damages wrought by the earthquakes, this hotel offers an excellent location, friendly, helpful staff and lovely grounds. Some of the furnishings are a bit dated, but nonetheless well kept. Free WiFi is a must and was available. The front desk staff immediately offered a choice of two other rooms when […] we saw our first was on the parking lot side, and the one we took overlooked the pool and garden. Being immediately next to the park and nearby gardens was fabulous. My husband availed himself of the free clubs and $10 round of golf next door. The shuttle to the train station was a boon. All around, we would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good short stop-over in Christchurch"
It is quite a good location being adjacent to the park and 10 minutes away from a good shopping centre and some restaurants away from the CBD which is being re-constructed. The swimming pool had just re-opened and the gardens were lovely, colourful and well maintained. It will be a very pleasant hotel when the repairs resulting from the 2011 earthquake […] are complete and if this is followed up with a redecoration programme. We thought the hotel prices were too high for a hotel under repair . However we preferred to stay at a hotel(very few in Christchurch at present ) than a motel and the staff were very friendly and helpful . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff and good excellentGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff were very friendly and the grounds were lovely. Room was dated but clean except that it needed a good dust. Good location, easy to access buses and a 15-20 minute walk to town. We found it very hard to find accommodation in Christchurch and we were happy with our choice to stay at Chateau on the Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Chateeau on the Park Christcurch"
Bit of 80's elegance. Reminded me of Hua Hin Marriot where I syaed last year Pool and spa closed becuase of earthquake damage cant be helped. Not enough tea bags in room and ancient TV could only get one channel successfuly. Had good rest though.Lovely grounds and gardens.Genuine Expedia guest review
We arrived in our rental car th check in and had to wait about twenty minutes as a bride, photographers and their bridal cars blocked the whole entrance. Then the room we are given smelt very bad, we had to open the windows and leave the door open. We called reception, the said the smell was due to an Indian family flooding the room. A few issues- why […] does a wedding have prevent entry of paying quests, why were we put in that rom in the first place when others were available as they moved us to another room and why was it nesscary to make a point of the fact that it was an Indian family that flooded the room. "Best Place in Town"
We really enjoyed our short break stay at this hotel. There are of course a few bits of scaffolding in the foyer but it doesn't detract from the quality of service, food, lovely friendly staff asnd clean warm comfortable rooms. We will be back.,...this was a superb location from which to wander to either the city centre or out toward the snow capped […] mountains. We visited Arthurs Pass...went for a hike up to the waterfalls and had a lush meal of fish n chips at The Wobbly Kea. Christchurch was inventive with all the colourful containers too....i hope they keep them as they are quite iconic and very quirky. The Chateau was great to get back to and the breakfast on the 2nd day was marvellous, i don't know what the chef did to the mushrooms but i could've eaten pots of it. Stay here....it's suffered earthquake damage but it certainly makes up for it in courtesy and friendliness.lenty of clean towels and toiletries..if you are only staying for a short break then you do not need to bring any of that stuff with you, their products are lush. Hagley Park is great...and adjoins the Botanical Gardens...now they are magical!! Gary the cat....he came close to us but sadly preferred to hike a tree instead of getting a hug. Plenty of carparking spaces and the staff were great accomodating our very late arrival in the small hours. Nothing was too much trouble from start to finish and we think they are doing a wonderful job in difficult circumstances. We can't wait to return!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Unexpectedly great restaurant"
We stayed only 1 night on way to Wanaka and because a good price. On arrival thought it might be a bit disappointing because of current renovations/repairs. We were very surprised at the amazing range of options on the menu in the restaurant but selected the roast of the day. It was great value and amazingly good...lovely tasty pork and a variety of […] beautifully cooked vegetables. "Great hotel - location and character / quality"
This is a jewel in Christchurch. We had our son with us and the 3 of us fit very comfortably into the room. The park close to the hotel is very handy and the area around the hotel is fab.
