The Midtown Hotel - Boston

Not happy with this hotel. Was close to downtown and transit and was priced decently but rooms not to expectations in upkeep or comfort. TV reverted to hotel channel every 10 minutes. Had to pay for parking and Internet. Not an enjoyable experience when far cheaper hotels, although farther away, had so much more to offer today's travelers.

More like a motel than an hotel. Adequate: wifi great, shower fine. Table rather than a desk (table too high without added pillows to chair). Vending machines broken or with old stuff. Staff very helpful.

Great, very helpful personal. But room was very noisy. You can hear how people talk in the next room, they did not talk loud, normal voice, but you can hear every words. No ventilation in the room, you have to open the window and it was even more noise from the street.

The hotel is in a great area with really convenient parking. Unfortunately the room was really warm and there was no way to control the air conditioning. Opening the one small window helped a bit, but the morning traffic was quite loud and disruptive. There's no problem with the Midtown beyond that is sad. Those old rooms with carpet and a flower duvet, plastic in the shower (and a noise in te bathroom that you could no avoid if the light was on). Good location though.

This is a basic hotel in an expensive part of Boston. They give you the basic bed and shower and charge you for anything extra, WIFI, breakfast, parking. Don't take your wife here for a romantic weekend. This worked for me because I got what I paid for and needed no extras.

Not quite what I expected -- the initial room assigned had a foul odor and the wrong bed configuration. The management was very polite about moving us to a different room for the remainder of our stay, and that was nice since they certainly didn't have to. Let's do the postive first. The receptionist was exceptionally helpful and very personable. The room was pleasant and clean. Also, we could walk to most all of the places for which we came. However, it was the weekend of an event at the Berkley School of Music. There were hoards of exuberant teenagers. Once I rolled up a kleenex and put them in my ears I could finally sleep. That was when we both realized that we could have used a couple more pillows. I selected this hotel primarily for the distance from the event which I was attending. Truthfully, I wish I picked one of the ones a little further away. Beyond the layout problems of the hotel itself (finding my room was a bit of a trick), there was the untidy stains on the bedroom floor, the broken TV (about half the channels didn't have sound, the […] other half had extra sound, which is to say an unpleasant static accompanied by the top third of the picture breaking up), and then there was the lack of privacy. I assume the walls have to be paper thin because I could hear the conversations in the room adjacent to mine. A top of that there was a particularly weird noise coming from the wall behind the TV (it sounded like a pitiful cats meow). The local information packet that was in my room was out of date (both phone numbers and URLs for places were incorrect or defunct). And finally, in terms of the room, there was something outside the window from about 1 AM to 1:30 and then again from 2 AM to 2:30 that vibrated the window so hard that it kept me awake. I would have had loved to control if the fan in the vent stayed on as well. The only good thing I can say about this place some of the staff was friendly and helpful. Read more

depressing. Room smelled odd, as if people had smoked in there in the past and the situation had been "remedied" by spraying air freshener. Bathroom had old and peeling wallpaper. Room was poorly lit. Less important, but unexpected for a hotel of the price: absolutely no gym and no bar.
