"Always a win"
Love the hotel. Great location. Easy access to everything. My only negative comment: Be careful walking around the neighborhood at night. Doesn't seem that safe - but no different than other hotels in this area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"near Union Square, theatres, etc."
The Clift had wonderful personnel. Very accommodating. Decor fun. Room VERY small. So small it was hard to walk around in it. Carpet in the elevators needed cleaning. All in all though a good hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice layout. It could use some cosmetic updates and a little better maintenance. It was still a very nice hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Probably one of the best hotels I've ever been in"
Everything was great, awesome location, bars, food, and the staff were super friendly. Very relaxing, but still has the hip city touch. The after hours lounge was an added bonus too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Loved our stay at the Clift hotel relaxing and in the middle of everything me and my husband will definetly be coming back the rooms are nice clean, excellent service, the only downfall was the bathrooms could be a little bigger but aside from that I really did enjoy our stay absolutely recommend it to othersGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful place. Noisy and a little worn.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, great design"
I loved everything about Clift: the location is perfect, cool design, comfortable rooms, good customer service. Few things are little weaknesses: huge mirrors on the walls (to make a room looks bigger I think, I just don't like too many mirrors), small bathroom and I was not replenished on the shampoo and shower gel. Overall I recommend this trendy […] and kind of affordable luxury hotel! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dirty and old"
The carpets are discolored and stained. The place feels overall very run down and old. The room was small and not particularly nice. They have very few outlets, and they're placed poorly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Showing Its Age"
The Clift is old and tired. It used to be hip and fun. It looks shabby and the shabbiness reads as dirty because the lighting is so dim. Room service was awful - although it arrived quickly, the food was flavorless and overcooked.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent stay in San Francisco Downtown"
We only stayed for one night, but Clift exceeded our expectations and made our stay very pleasant. Our room was spacious, had beautiful views, and was very clean and well appointed. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had no complaints whatsoever.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very disappointed! The first woman that helped us was rude and just not friendly or happy, rooms were very run down, with a coat of paint. Bathroom was not like the average boutique hotels, I think this hotel is for the fun and night life. I prefer the newness and cleanliness of Kimpton hotels. Bellman were great though but also the room service not […] good and overpriced. Will not stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The rooms need updating...leaky faucets, tattered rugs, smells of smoke, phone was broken....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"conveniently located for business district"
I enjoyed my stay but I do think the lighting in the room is not very good. While I like the environment of the lobby, it is a little too dark.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed for one night but would stay for many next time. The hotel is very sophisticated and sexy. Loved the decor and lobby. The whole vibe is spot on for young adults. Really loved the comfort of the bed and the feel of the sheets and pillows in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is beautiful and has a legendary bar. I didn't eat in the restaurant. My first room had mold in the shower so they immediately moved me to another room. I was very satisfied with how they handled this. The rooms need some love as they are worn. But I would absolutely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overrated Hotel - not worth the money! All hype!"
Tiny room, tinier bathroom, pathetic shower, worn carpets, cheesy decor.. why would you pay big bucks to stay here??Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great stay for a great price!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
good hotel, good location, very small bathrooms, the hotel is veru art oriented, the bar is very nice, the breakfast buffet can di betterGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice in a good location"
This is a quite ok 'boutique' hotel hotel with nice rooms and a very nice lobby if somewhat dimly lit.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everything was great but bathrooms are old and gross and need updatingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to awesome shopping and restaurants"
Very quiet place. Clean and comfortable bed. Great location. Very close to China Town as well as shopping centers, all within walking distance. If you like Designer clothes and handbags, you will love this location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"4 Star? Out of 10 maybe"
This hotel uses purple paint, mirrors and super modern decorations to offset the crazy small rooms, an unreliable plumbing system (hot/cold showers), thin walls and dark lifeless interior. When is the last time you've stayed at a 4-star hotel that didn't have a restaurant? Bizarre. This hotel is a nightclub that has rooms. That's about it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Still one of my favorites"
I've loved this hotel for over 10 years, but the quality of the rooms has suffered a bit - might need a little upgrading and repair / replacement to make things seem "new" again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clift is a party downtown"
Clift was a party and a stylish good time. Location is downtown and if you are familiar with SF's Downtown then things will be no surprise. Nice hotel, centrally located.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to downtown"
Always good - had an early check in and an upgrade of our room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect location perfect staff"
I was alone but they didnt make me feel alone. Excellent concierge staff. Very helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent Service, Great Room!"
Had a wonderful experience staying at Clift. Stayed there with my wife and 2 month old baby, staff was helpful from the moment I arrived until I left! I will definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"BDay Weekend Extravaganza for the Wifey"
The club was a pleasant surprise downstairs in the lobby. Moscow Mules were yummy and did the nightcap trick.Genuine Expedia guest review

Fun night and good location- red room lounge was a great sceneGenuine Expedia guest review
No complaints--thus far the best hotel in the city...and I thought the W and the St. Regis were good!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
First of all, I've never complained about a hotel stay until now and I do a fair amount of traveling. Here goes my rant... The walls were very very thin and we woke up to people talking both mornings. We were in an adjoining room and our neighbors were partying (felt like they were in the room – we could hear every word they said). The rooms were much […] smaller than cheaper and nicer hotels in the area. Don't worry about your view because you can't see out of the dirty windows even if there is a view. The shower did not work… The tub had chipping paint and the water literally dribbled out of the shower head at constantly changing temperatures. Absolutely horrible experience after paying good money. I would never recommend this hotel to a friend; I'd recommend checking out the Hotel Monaco across the street. "Will definitely return to the Clift"
This hotel is fantastic. The only downside is the bathroom is about the same size as the closet. Otherwise, very pleased with our stay - will definitely be back. Really good value and the staff is exceptional.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet, clean, attentive service!"
Enjoyed our overnight visit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to union square"
It is quite expensive but it is a beautiful hotel. The staff was excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The room was small and it was sometimes hard to navigate with two people. I had to crawl over the bed to get to the bathroom if my fiancé was dressing. All in all I would recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had wanted to stay at the Clift for a while but things hadn't lined up before. It was worth the wait! The Clift has and edgy feel, from the decor to the furniture to the color palate. Aa LNG established hotel that has been repositioned for the 21st century.Genuine Expedia guest review
"One of my Favs!"
I love the understated and secret nature of the Clift. Always the best service and accommodations. Very quick with anything you need to your room also.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great stay; wonderful location. The hotel is really, really dark inside. You practically need a flashlight to see where you are going in the lobby area. The room however was light and refreshing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Trendy but nice"
The hotel room was spacious and nicely appointed. Great view of the city. Friday night, when we checked in, was a bit of a club scene with doorman and music bumping, but the rest of the weekend was much tamer. Great location near Powell BART station and walking distance to all the sights of San Francisco a tourist would want to visit.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Lobby, Good Service, Rooms are Meh"
I've been dying to stay at the Clift for ages now, and was really excited when we finally got the opportunity. As soon as you walk in, the lobby is an impressive, modern space buzzing with people. Check-in was super easy, and all of the staff at the hotel are exceedingly nice and friendly. I will say, however, that we were really disappointed with the […] room. While the rooms are spacious, they're really basic for the price. The biggest disappointment was the tiny bathroom, and there were chips in in our bathtub. For over $200/night -- I was definitely expecting something a bit more upscale. Additionally, the WiFi situation was a bit frustrating -- free Wifi while you're in the lobby, but $15/day if you want Internet in your room. I know that this is standard practice, but at $200/night with subpar room quality, you'd think that they could at least throw in free WiFi (even just an hours worth -- I had to take a Skype call from my room and ended up paying the $15 for just 45 minutes of use). Overall, I'm not sure that I'd stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly staff, room with a view, comfortable and modern hip. Great location within easy walking distance of lots of shopping and dining options. We would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was ok but not as clean as I would have liked"
I had a few stains on the comforter and sheets, and overall it looked like they haven't really taken the time to maintain the furniture, e.g. the white alligator skin couch looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a year or two. The double mirrors behind my bed and in front of the bed were super weird and the cleaning lady said that was the style of every […] room - sort of creepy. The services were ok but not as friendly or as detail oriented as in other hotels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"From old to new."
It is an older building that has been refurbished. I have to remind myself that San Francisco is a very expensive city to spend the night. Next time we will stay south of town as I really didn't feel that I was getting my money's worth. We recently stayed in Long Beach at the Pike for similar price but their could be no comparison. If you like convenience […] this is a good location and near the cable cars on Powell street. Shopping is very good, good food and theaters near by. We saved about 120 a night by using Expedia over the regular hotel price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location - central to everything in SF"
Great staff, updated rooms good restaurant and fun and lively barGenuine Expedia guest review
"nice boutique hotel"
Positives: central location to shopping, bart, really comfortable bed and bedding, clean, friendly staff. Beware of: thin walls, no fan/ vent in the bathroom. Not quite as pictured, but we enjoyed our stay. Easy check in/ check out. Ease of access to hotel and room convenient.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"comfy, good value (for what I paid) for short stay"
My first time at Clift. I usually stay down the street. Its noisey and packed to get in at night but it was a nifty room and not a bad deal for what I paid. I would not recommend it for a long stay or a restful stay but as far as a night out crash pad, or a couple nights in the city this is a good hotel if you get a good price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was in LOVE the moment I walked into The Clift. The best way to describe The Clift is SEXY. I loved the decor. My favorite part was the bed, it just hugs you as you lay in it. The Redwood had an awesome atmosphere great music, and tasty drinks. I will stay againGenuine Expedia guest review
"Funky euro vibe"
The Clift would be at home on South Beach. Funky chic decor. More Europeans than natives both staying and employed. Nice place. Clean, and security was good. We had fun.Genuine Expedia guest review
