"Pleasant but a little run down"
Pleasant enough place to stay but a little run down. The rooms were small and poorly lit, my toilet ran incessantly and the bathroom was very small with nowhere to put your toiletries (a pet peeve of mine). "Not the best way to spend the holidays."
We went to San Francisco for the holidays and wanted to stay at a classic, festive, centrally located, and spacious hotel. The Sir Francis Drake is defiantly classic and you could not ask for a better location however, the accommodations were not what we expected. The room was so small that when we first arrived we thought they had made a mistake. What […] we thought we booked (according to the pictures) and what we actually had was not the same. It is hard enough spending the holidays away from home but then to be stuck in a small room did not make it any better. There was no refrigerator, there was no room to move around, and only one mirror and since it was in the bathroom it made it difficult to get ready. The bed was hard and the walls thin. I'm only glad that we didn't spend a lot of time in the room or we would have suffered from claustrophobia. The hotel is right in town so there is no parking. We were charged $60+ for one night. Since our stay was to be short we really didn't want to take all of our luggage out of the car, but we were advised to take EVERYTHING. We were there on Christmas, so practically nothing was open. "Disappointing- not for families"
I always loved Kimpton hotels and thought that it was a great location to take my kids to SF for a holiday night, taking in the Union Square festivities. The bathroom was tiny, the window treatments were broken and dirty. The worst part of the stay was the look my kids faces (aged 4 & 8) on Christmas Eve morning excited for the advertised hot cocoa […] bar that ends at 9am. We arrived at 8:45, cocoa gone, we were told by another guest that they were getting more cocoa. They had all the toppings out, sprinkles, peppermint, etc, but no cocoa. We sat and waited for more cocoa. Finally we realized at 9:03 they were cleaning up and putting everything away. I asked the gentleman cleaning it up about getting cocoa for the kids, he said, 'it ended at 9am." I told him we'd been waiting since 8:45 for a refill and he said there was plenty of coffee left...for 2 little kids?? Frustrating. I guess they should tell you that the cocoa bar is "while supplies last." No offer to accommodate or help, even to apologize. He was obviously the grinch of the hotel. This was my second time in 2 months and 3rd time overall staying at the Sir Francis Drake and I will absolutely stay there the next time I travel. Everyone from the valet to the concierge are warm and friendly and extremely helpful, almost like talking with old friends. "Older, but nice"

"Good hotel, tight quarters, park nearby"
Good hotel overall, certainly in an impressive building, excellent location, rooms are quite small however, very limited counter / floor space in bathroom. We still enjoyed our stay. Avoid 55$ a night valet charge and park two blocks over at Sutter Stockton lot for $1 per hour until 9AMGenuine Hotels.com guest review
