The service was very rude from the Valet, to the bell man to the hotel check in. The room was out dated and too small. The room service food was bad. If you are going to the gym bring your own busa ball. Bring your own shower cap, soap, shampoo. Water is $6 in your room. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready when it was promised, so they supposedly upgraded us to another room. This room was bigger, but it had a strange layout. My husband and I spent two days in SF, and this hotel was in an excellent location for getting around and seeing the sights. Walking distance to China Town and shopping, Cable Car stop right outside the hotel, close to the pick up stop for sight seeing busses, etc. The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful! Just a few issues, however. There was NO cold […] water in the room - seriously. The sink and shower had two temperatures: Hot, and Scalding. Kind of gross to brush your teeth with hot water. The bed was not the most comfortable (extra, extra firm), and we were the unlucky people to get a room right by the elevator. Very noisy at all hours of the night! There were two major drawbacks for me. First, when I arrived, I was told that Mark had already checked in. Great... wait, who's that? I'm staying alone. Then I was given a room that either had not been cleaned or someone was already in it. I didn't keep the door open long enough to find out. The third room was fine. We come to SF a lot and have stayed in many of the Union Square hotels. This was our second stay at the Sir Francis. The location is ideal! The service is good. We had gone to dinner and came back to a large dog barking in the room next to us. I had no idea this was a pet friendly hotel. I love dogs but do not want to hear one barking at 10:00pm! This hotel has a lot of potential and the decor could be a nice change from your standard hotels if it was executed better. The rooms are very small which wouldn't be an issue had they been better designed. Bathroom was extremely cramped and had zero storage space for toiletries - even around sink. Sink was encased in a funky bureau that fit decor […] but didn't open. Our room looked tired with paint chipping and worn carpets. Towels were thin and tired looking as too. Also they charge a fee for wireless in room - when is this practice going to end?? Just add it to room rates! "Where are the bathrooms?"
The Sir Francis Drake Hotel gave us a great stay in an unbeatable location. Less than a block from Union Square on Powell, hard to imagine a more convenient location. Service level was very high, our room was not large, but not small. The bathroom in our room was very small. fully functional and well equipped, but it couldn't have been much more than […] 7' square. What we found odd was the lack of public restrooms. From the lobby, you had to go up to the mezzanine level and then across a large room into another. There, you find two single person facilities. There was generally a line to use them. If you were in the attached restaurant - Scala's Bistro, you had to leave the restaurant, ascend half a flight of stairs, descend a half flight, wind around a long hall, and then climb another half flight to either of two single person facilities. I fully understand that this hotel was built in 1928, so some allowances need to be made, but this seemed very odd. Service, location, cleanliness was all fantastic. Concierges services were free to use and helped us plan more than half our weekend. Nothing but smiles from the staff when we were there. I absolutely loved the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. I've never stayed in a Kimpton hotel before but after this experience I would definitely do it again. This hotel is conveniently located next to everything! I had looked into some other hotels with similar stars and good reviews but I am so glad we chose this one instead. "Cable car right outside door - no waiting"
Nice hotel for our family vacation. Room was a bit small for our family of four, and there was minimal storage space. Concierge and hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, though. Overall, a pleasant stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Average classy hotel"
Missing several key accessories (No locker, no fridge). It is above average hotel, staffs are very friendly and free wine after 4-6pm, free tea/coffee in the morning, very good free wifi. Small room and weird decorators (very dark)Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Our room was great except we were on the 20 the floor which was awesome except we had the disco above us on the 21st floor so you definetley had to use the noise reduction that they had by the bed but everything else was greatGenuine Hotels.com guest review
