"The staff are amazing, the room needs work."
This hotel was in an amazing location in Union Square, easy to get to everything we wanted to do in the area. However, our room (#333) was very small. The closet was in a dark corner of the room and had no light so we couldn't use it. Luckily there was plenty of dresser space. The bed was strangely angled so our feet were higher than our heads. But […] on the plus side, the room was very clean and the hotel offered a $10 coupon to the hotel's dining if you decided not to have your hotel room cleaned for a day. They allowed this to happen twice during our stay. I liked this because it saved resources and we didn't have a need for new towels or sheets after the first day. "A weekend trip to SF"
We had a great stay at the Sir Francis Drake! It was a perfect location to what we wanted to see and do during I time there. My only concern was the speed to bring items to our room. My boyfriend and I requested a few complimentary items be brought to our room and it took over an hour to do so. The service was very rude from the Valet, to the bell man to the hotel check in. The room was out dated and too small. The room service food was bad. If you are going to the gym bring your own busa ball. Bring your own shower cap, soap, shampoo. Water is $6 in your room. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready when it was promised, so they supposedly upgraded us to another room. This room was bigger, but it had a strange layout. My husband and I spent two days in SF, and this hotel was in an excellent location for getting around and seeing the sights. Walking distance to China Town and shopping, Cable Car stop right outside the hotel, close to the pick up stop for sight seeing busses, etc. The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful! Just a few issues, however. There was NO cold […] water in the room - seriously. The sink and shower had two temperatures: Hot, and Scalding. Kind of gross to brush your teeth with hot water. The bed was not the most comfortable (extra, extra firm), and we were the unlucky people to get a room right by the elevator. Very noisy at all hours of the night! There were two major drawbacks for me. First, when I arrived, I was told that Mark had already checked in. Great... wait, who's that? I'm staying alone. Then I was given a room that either had not been cleaned or someone was already in it. I didn't keep the door open long enough to find out. The third room was fine. "Oh so helpful consanguinity"
We had ra wonderful time, it was the first for me to stay in a city with my Cairn terrier. We were so well received. With out Leif we would have missed so much. His dinner recommendations were grand. Aleina and Wei were fantastic! Made my 50th birthday very special indeed. Accommodated my wishes to have my friends from out of town as near as possible and found me a table at The Starlight Room last minute. Received complimentary bottle of wine as well! It looks like a great hotel from the pictures on the internet. but the actual hotel is not that great. The reception area is really great as it is very much a period hotel but also a very old hotel. the room are very small and the bathroom are just tiny.Genuine Expedia guest review

It IS a historic building built in 1928, and since we've gone through a major renovation to add modern amenities. It may not be a cookie-cutter sterile hotel, but I believe it offers a very unique "old-world" charm that is very unique. Also, please know that there are several types/sizes of the rooms available. We come to SF a lot and have stayed in many of the Union Square hotels. This was our second stay at the Sir Francis. The location is ideal! The service is good. We had gone to dinner and came back to a large dog barking in the room next to us. I had no idea this was a pet friendly hotel. I love dogs but do not want to hear one barking at 10:00pm! I […] called the front desk and they found us a new room right away! They sent someone up to help us move and gave us a free breakfast!! The only bad thing about this hotel is that the walls are paper thin!! The staff is awesome, hotel beautiful, great location, but forget restful evening! Yes, we are a pet-friendly hotel; all Kimpton hotels are in case you want to travel around the country. I agree, I wouldn't want to hear anything barking at 10pm. We often ask our guests NOT to leave their dogs too long behind as that seems to give them an anxiety "barking"... In any rate, I am glad that one of our staff was able to relocate you to a different room. Anniversary trip. Called ahead for special room but when arrived room was small without view. Asked front desk for a better view and was upgraded to a great view bigger room and comp bottle of champagne. Great service!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
