"Haphazard stay"
The first room we got was beautiful, big and overlooked Union Square from the 19th floor. Too bad that no one thought to tell us that the walls would reverberate from the nightclub music until 1:30 AM on Friday and Saturday nights. Moved to a postage stamp-sized room at 11:30PM. Complained in the morning and moved to a room on the 18th, but the other […] side of the motel. The bedside lamp did not work, and, after four requests for a new one (and a wait of 11 hrs.), got another. The toilet paper roll in the last room was on the wall where a person's right shoulder would normally be, but - hey! - the room was quiet. I should add that the night manager on the first disco night did not want to tell me how long the music would play - he just switched me to the nightclub, where the person who answered said, "What - they didn't warn you?!? Good Lord!" Nice costume on the doorman, but I wouldn't stay there again. There are no double-paned windows, so even w/o the boom boom music, we could hear every noise from Union Square. Great location, take your earplugs. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Chinese New Year, Amyone?"
First let me say we loved the Drake. Great location, great service, beautiful room. But what a surprise it was to come over the hill from two blocks away and see throngs of people lining the streets. Turns out we were just 20 minutes away from the Chinese New Year Parade! The downside was we had to park two blocks away and drag our luggage through the […] crowds to get to the hotel. The upside was we had perfect seats for the amazing parade! Also, our plans to go out for dinner changed and we tried Scala/s Bistro on the property. It was great as well! I recommend the Drake! "a bit disappointing"
I had always liked staying in kimpton hotels but the last few stays have been disappointing. The Drake was in a great location and the staff was friendly, but the room was very small and hotel lacked amenities - no mini fridge in the room, the workout room only had 2 treadmills and there was always a line for them. while the room was clean and maintained […] while we were there, when we arrived we found an empty water bottle and other garbage on the floor that was missed. it was totally adequate, but nothing special. "Mostly Good"
Overall, our stay was great. The staff was particularly friendy and helpful. The front desk staff were able to accommodate our early check in by putting us in a room near the elevators. They were concerned that the room might be too loud for us, so they let us go upstairs to check it out first. The room was not too noisy, but what we did notice was […] how tiny it was. It really was just a bed, a desk, a small closet, and the dimly lit bathroom. There was very little floor space. What the room did not have space, it made up for in the city view. It was breathtaking. One other draw back to our stay was the unexpected massive overnight parking fee. It cost us $50 plus a $7 service fee to park our car for 24 hours at the hotel. That was not on the room description on the website. Parking in San Francisco is not cheap, but that was ridiculous. I think we would stay here again, we would just make different arrangements. "Not Too Shabby"
I've always wanted try out the Sir Francis Drake, so I finally found a nice deal and booked it. I notice a mix of good & not so good... The not so good comments ranged from noisy w/ thin walls to gripes about the bathroom. My room had great shower head pressure, but the pillows were cheap and somewhat on the hard side.. The room was clean w/ great decor, […] but kind of smaller sizewise. The bed was comfy. Bathroom was also a bit on the smaller side but I really had no problem with that what so ever. There was street noise, but to be honest that didn't bother me that much. So overall, I liked my experience and would stay there again but I'll bring my own pillow ;). Hope this review helped. "Great hotel with simple amenities."
The Sir Francis Drake's building is very old but the entire hotel has been through a recent facelift. The lobby, elevators, corridors, and rooms are all in great condition. Our room was simple but comfortable. The linens were clean. There was a mini bar, LCD TV, and free wireless Internet (although we did not try the Internet). The bathroom was quite […] small and lacking in counter space. It was functional though, and very clean. We had a nice view of Macy's in Union Square, which was a 2 minute walk away. We will definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Friendly Hotel!"
We loved our stay at the Drake. The hotel was beautifully appointed, and we enjoyed the perk of free wine at 5 pm and endless coffee in the morning, while enjoying the beautiful lobby area. The beds were really comfortable with lush linens. We only stayed one night, but I liked the fact they would give you a $10 dining credit to forego daily sheet washing. […] So many hotels these days squawk about wanting to be environmentally conscious, when in actuality all they do is reduce their own bottom line when the customer makes the sacrifice, and the hotel pockets the profit. Kimpton gives the savings back to the customer, which I appreciate. My only qualm about this hotel is if you drive in yourself - it is $57 a night for parking. Yes, I know it's San Francisco, I just wish the hotel could find a way to make the parking more affordable. Other than that, it was a really nice stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel - if you don't need sleep"
The hotel brings its many metal redh dumpsters up from the basement to the street at two am on Thursday nights. The process takes a half hour. I know this because the noise they make doing it sounds litetally like a building wrecking crew at work. The city comes to pick up the dumpsters at 530am. Guess what - just as noisy. Forget trying to sleep through […] this. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming and Perfectly Located"
What a charming boutique hotel in the midst of Union Square! It is walking distance to lots of great shopping and restaurants, and close to the best public transportation in the city. The staff was outgoing and the epitome of professionalism. The rooms were small, but very cozy and comfortable with eye-pleasing decor that had an eclectic and modern […] flavor that was somehow very appropriate for the old-world architecture of the building...classical meets neoclassical! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Stinch of sewage and bathroom for Twiggy"
Upon arrival we noticed the carpet on the stairs was tattered and torn. We then had a cocktail at the bar in the lobby before going to our room. The bar staff was pleasant but upon arrival to our room we were broadsided by the stench of raw sewage. Nevertheless we called the front desk and they asked us to come down and they provided us with another […] room. I will say that I was expecting something nice due to our misfortune of that last room but the room was much smaller in size and if you are anything other than a ballerina I would not expect to take a nice shower in this room. The shower was “L” shaped, now you would expect this to be large enough but it was in fact two feet in depth and three feet in width. However there is another sixteen inch by sixteen inch area that completes the L shape, where they installed the body wash and shampoo dispenser. Now I am 6’5” and weight about 240 so rubbing walls wouldn’t have been an issue had I been in my own shower and I know how clean it is. Ah, that leads me to the toilet which is of the charm of the old world size which the toilet paper holder pokes you in the ribs and the door barely clears the front of the toilet. Total size of the bathroom (shower only) was 6’x5’ and this included the shower, toilet, and sink… I would suggest you stay far away from this establishment and look more toward the Westin or Hyatt which are much nicer hotels. Personally stayed at both in the past with no problems. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

There were no coffee facilities, shower gel, shampoo etc in the room. The concierge was great, but the receptionist seemed high when we checked out. The bed was very comfortable, but I got bitten twice in our one night stay. I wouldn't stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Center of Town"
Decent hotel, with friendly staff. Hotel is in an older building, which is pretty normal for San Francisco. The rooms were clean and the staff was quite helpful. This is right in the center of town with easy access to all public transit. The historic nature of the building was interesting. The hotel was extremely busy as it was New Years, so it was […] a bit loud, which I expected, not sure if it would be more quiet at other times. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall great. nice room(s), friendly staff, decent in house restaurant. I had to change rooms in the middle of the stay as they had a water problem. it wasn't a bi deal and they gave me a largere room with a better view. "did not live up to expectations"
Hotel OK good convenient location but very small rooms and really no amenities in hotel. Went to nightclub had good view but very poor table service. Also $57.00 a night pretty steep to park car. have stayed at other hotels around Union Square and found this to be least likely for me to return to.Genuine Expedia guest review

we had a big day of shopping and wanted to have a drink at the lobby lounge and there was no bar service! it would have been nice if someone would have told us. for we waited for a time, and them found out we should go up to to the bar and order the drinks ourselves!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent Location"
The stay was great. The hotel staff was very friendly and professional. The hotel itself is right off Union Square, and in close proximity to many other areas of the city, such as Little Italy, North Beach, and Chinatown. My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, but simply an observation. We found the room very small for three people. There […] was no real sitting area and I felt like we were in a closet at times. Other than that, it was an enjoyable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
