Over priced, rude customer service, valet is horrible. Don't stay on 20th floor if light sleeper or have an early event the next morning( they didn't tell us about the nightclub on 21st floor). Valet workers were rude and unhelpful. I recommend they don't be a host hotel for events in the city if they can't handle guest with respect and courtesy. Will not stay here again or recommend to anyone.

It was a lovely hotel. Very classic and the service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I was a little suprised when I got to my room. It was soooooo small. I actually got out of bed and was in the bathroom. No extra steps, in the bathroom. And there was no room for a trash can in the bathroom. That was irritating because I had to carry my trash into the room. It wasn't that far, but it was inconvenient. Had I paid full price for the room, I would have been very unhappy. It was nice to say I stayed there, but I don't think I would do it again.

The city of San Francisco is very compact and it's often challenging to find a parking spot and the parking rate may be higher than some other cities. Great location, but if you are staying on the weekend it can be extremely noisy. My room was on the 19th floor (two floors under the Starlight room) and the music/bass was incredibly loud until 2 am. Staff gave a room credit, which was nice but doesn't quite make up for the sleep deprivation. If you are on a lower floor, this hotel is really fun and in a great location.

My fiance and I went for an over night stay at Sir Francis Drake this Saturday.This​ particular​ overnight was a getaway-from-the-kids type of trip, which only happens for us once in a blue moon and we had wanted it to be special.Our stay got off to a bit of rough start.The original reservation was for a grand king room. I called a week in advance to confirm my reservations and was assured everything was good to go.Upon arrival,we were informed the grand room we had booked was not available and they were moving us to a deluxe room and would give us complementary breakfast for the inconvenience.I informed them we already had planned to go to brunch in the Starlight Room and asked if they would be able to take care of that for us instead,to which they agreed.So they were trying to make good on this.I had read similar complaints on Yelp before we booked here,which is exactly why I CALLED A WEEK IN ADVANCE!The first impression of the room wasn't great.On top of the already smaller room we were given,there was a pull out cot in the middle of the room when we got there,why it was there I have no idea. But we called down and someone came up fairly quickly and removed it for us.The view wasn't spectacular and the bathroom was pretty cramped. But,being that they put us in a corner room we decided to make the best of a little disappointment.Overall the hotel is nice.I dig the old world charm and the staff was nice.

Staff was excellent, service was good. Facility condition is a B-. Room was very small and cleanliness level was not good. There was a significant amount of dust on the wallpaper near the heat vent in particular.

Loved the Sir Francis Drake. Only negative was the street noise was too loud. We were on the 14th floor in a corner room. The view was great - we could see up Sutter and Powell streets. But we could hear the traffic noise at night, even with a white noise machine. Other than that, we loved the hotel. Great location in Union Square, very friendly staff, nice coffee reception in lobby each morning, and complementary wine hour at 5pm. Room was small but comfortable, and had a nice size TV.

Wonderful old hotel, right at union station, cable car stop is right there. Centrally located especially if you like to walk. Everyone at the hotel was very helpful, would definitely stay here again.

I book this hotel for my husband birthday we checked in a little late to go to the lounge startligt room in the same hotel, the front desk person told us that they already did last called when at 12:am when the place closed at 1:30am I was not satisfied at all won't be staying here ever again my experience was not good

You are absolutely right; checking at midnight, you should have been able to enjoy the last 1.5 hrs at the Starlight room. The hotel is right in town so there is no parking. We were charged $60+ for one night. Since our stay was to be short we really didn't want to take all of our luggage out of the car, but we were advised to take EVERYTHING. We were there on Christmas, so practically nothing was open. In a return trip.....this hotel would not be a do over.

This Hotel is in the busiest shopping district in SF. During the Holiday season it is a madhouse around this location. Small rooms, but didn't expect anything more, the hotel is around 100 years old. Beautiful architecture inside and outside the property, and close to many restaurants and other attractions. Chinatown is right around the corner.

I made this reservation based on a friend's recommendation. After reading the description of the room, I went for it: Historic Queen Room with City View in Downtown San Francisco with the glamour of the past but the convenience and the comfort of the present. Reading further about the hotel, I loved the idea of its group and I even joined the loyalty program. I was pleasantly surprised with the location and the lobby but not with the check-in process where the person made sure to make me feel that he is in a rush and he did not even have time to enter my loyalty program number in the reservation since I am not getting any perks anyhow (to be fair, it was new year's eve and the hotel was sold out; but then, I did pay $$$$ for a one night stay in a room...a very small room to discover later), I had to wait for no less than 5 minutes for the elevator, and then be shocked that a city view means seeing the Walgreens sign out of my window! The room was unique in design, clean, and the bed was comfortable. The day I checked out was much easier where the housekeeping staff made enough noise in the hallway to wake me up (yes, that is sarcasm!) and the gentleman who checked me out was very nice (this is true!).

This classic SFO hotel was remodeled in past few years and is very clean, classic, and nostalgic. What really impressed us, though, was the outstanding personal service and attention to us. The staff really made an effort to demonstrate appreciation for our visit over Christmas 2014. The place was alive with guests and staff - we had a blast.

Stayed here for the weekend with a girlfriend. It was close to shopping and restaurants. It's also a short walk to Chinatown and North Beach. The hotel has a beautiful lobby with an old world feel. The happy hour was great and just what we needed after a long day of shopping. The rooms were nice except the bathroom was small; It had no counter space to put your things. The beds were very soft and comfy. I'd stay here again.

Generally a nice hotel -- although some amenities could be improved such as providing coffee pot in room, a real wet bar in mini refrig, more drinking glasses and soap in bathroom. Other than a tiny bar of soap and tiny body lotion -- nothing else is provided. However due to its central location I would most likely return.

the help was very nice. the room nice but very noisy one window won,t shut all the way thus the noise. the bath tub seemed dirty but it was so old that might have been a large part of the problem. try to valet was a hassle do to xmas. crowd.

I always loved Kimpton hotels and thought that it was a great location to take my kids to SF for a holiday night, taking in the Union Square festivities. The bathroom was tiny, the window treatments were broken and dirty. The worst part of the stay was the look my kids faces (aged 4 & 8) on Christmas Eve morning excited for the advertised hot cocoa bar that ends at 9am. We arrived at 8:45, cocoa gone, we were told by another guest that they were getting more cocoa. They had all the toppings out, sprinkles, peppermint, etc, but no cocoa. We sat and waited for more cocoa. Finally we realized at 9:03 they were cleaning up and putting everything away. I asked the gentleman cleaning it up about getting cocoa for the kids, he said, 'it ended at 9am." I told him we'd been waiting since 8:45 for a refill and he said there was plenty of coffee left...for 2 little kids?? Frustrating. I guess they should tell you that the cocoa bar is "while supplies last." No offer to accommodate or help, even to apologize. He was obviously the grinch of the hotel. On a better note, Elgin at the front desk was the best part of the whole stay. He embodies the Kimpton standard I remember.

We had 6 of us, 3 rooms. Hotel staff nicely accommodated us on same floor, nice rooms even with fully booked hotel. Beautiful hotel decorated for holidays. Pretty even when not if you like the older style. If you like new and modern, try another place. This place has TONS of character! 3 doormen are awesome and work hard. Front desk staff was great, and the cleaning crew was too. Also valets....basically all who we dealt with were great. Very busy time, lots of traffic, people etc. Best way to get anywhere at this time of year was taxi or walk but that was fine with us. Cable cars ridiculous and not available unless you waited hours...then they broke down. Again, great hotel, great location, (rooms not super roomy but we managed to enjoy our downtime just fine!) Classic King rooms....double occupancy.

The reason for my low ratings is that for the price we paid ($234 for the night) I was surprised that there was not a coffee maker in the room, such a simple thing I know but the convenience of that while getting ready in the morning without having to order room service or go downstairs to the lobby is huge to me. Also the windows are very old and do not keep any sound or cold air out so we were glad we brought ear plugs! The last thing was there was a strong sulphur smell in the room, we knew the hotel was very old but seems they could have managed to do something about that. We really like Kimpton and have stayed in others but I dont think we will back to this one.

This was my second time in 2 months and 3rd time overall staying at the Sir Francis Drake and I will absolutely stay there the next time I travel. Everyone from the valet to the concierge are warm and friendly and extremely helpful, almost like talking with old friends. I had a beautiful room that was spotless and the beds and pillows were comfortable. The counter space in the bathroom is non-existent, but that may be my only complaint. My party traveled to see a show and they handled our transportation to and from. The concierge's recommendation for dinner and drinks couldn't have been better! We even hit the Starlight Room and danced until morning. I highly recommend it. Next time I plan on making the wine tasting from 5 to 6. Also the location couldn't be better. It's right next to Union Square. The shopping is fantastic.

Well kept older hotel. My room on 12th floor had what appeared to be original, single pane window which allowed a lot of street noise through....had to wear ear plugs to sleep well.

I booked a queen bed for our stay. The young man who who checked us in noticed my tall husband upgraded us to a king bed free of charge which was very nice. Our room and bathroom were very small, but comfortable. My husband forgot his cell phone charger. We were happy to learn that the hotel has a cell phone charging station in their business center. Entry to the Starlight lounge was free with our room key and offered a nice view over the City.

Good hotel overall, certainly in an impressive building, excellent location, rooms are quite small however, very limited counter / floor space in bathroom. We still enjoyed our stay. Avoid 55$ a night valet charge and park two blocks over at Sutter Stockton lot for $1 per hour until 9AM
