The hotel was under construction and no one informed us when we booked our rooms. The staff was unapologetic for the inconvenience, not even offering a free breakfast, WiFi, etc. At the minimum they should have provided free parking ($20.00 a day) since we had to walk around the side of the building through the construction debris. Lobby/entrance undergoing Major Renovation. Just a mess. Stay away until that is finished. Trying to serve food and bar while everything is torn up around them. Disgusting. No, dust etc. Room was redone, OK, nothing special. Older property and really shows. Expect much better from Marriott. wish I had been told in advance that work was being done.

over all the room and service was great except they charge a $20 for 1 night self parking or $25 valet parking. I definitely would not go back for that reason. I can find other hotel without having to pay so much for parking and would not recommend it!!!

We had stayed here earlier in the week and liked our stay so much that we booked a room there again. Rather than it being just my husband and me only, this time we had my mother and infant daughter with us. The main thing that stood out other than the obvious friendly staff and quality of the rooms was that they really went the extra mile. My mother […] is ill at times and has a handicapped sign to put in the window. Well all the spots in the front were gone, which as a courtesy of the hotel is free if it's a handicapped spot, and just left the option to park in the paida garage. The guy tells me well we have one handicapped spot in the garage, but it's usually taken. He ran and checked the spot , put cones there so no one else could get it, and gave us that spot. Then upon checking out, it was so busy a bell hop could not really help us with our bags right away. So, the lady that actually comes in the rooms to make sure the guests have checked out ,literally grabbed the heaviest bags on her own and carried them downstairs herself, and then absolutely refused a tip!!!! We were amazed! They really out did themselves in excellent service! This one gets a five star rating from us!!! Read more

I rarely rank hotels. But after this disappointing episode, I must. Hotels.com reserved us for a double, there weren't any available when we arrived. After a 5 minute discussion about why you shouldn't use 3rd party sites like expedia to book because they can't guarantee 2 beds, and it being late, what else were we going to do? Then, NO hot water the […] next morning. We complained, and they pointed us to dispute charges with Hotels.com, and kindly removed a few parking charges and a movie. So, as instructed we went back to Hotels.com... who of course went back to the Marriott who now feels they've done everything they should. The hotel was undergoing renovations but our room was extremely nice. The only thing we did not like was the thinness of the walls. We could hear the people on both sides of our room. The sounds were loud....tv...and other unmentionable sounds.

We chose the La Jolla Marriott because of location then price. It proved to be a good business class hotel in a convenient location. While renovations were in progress on the public areas of the hotel this did not interfere with our stay.

when the upgrades are finished, this will be a more attactive place to stay...the parking garage is nice but expensive...the staff were ALL very cordial and helpful...our room lacked a phone book...a frig would be nice...the location is convenient,,,all is all...it was very worthwhile.

The hotel was being renovated during our stay. That explains the reduced rate we were offered. The staff made every effort to serve us. Our room had been fully redone, and was very nice. We were minimally inconvenienced during our stay. All in all, a positive experience as one would expect from Marriott.

The hotel was great, but it was a little far from San Diego. I personally didn't like that they charge extra for parking, but a lot of hotels do now. I parked on La Jolla Village Drive for free and it worked out.

Excellent service, nice neighborhood but we will not be back. Rooms were very small and not really suitable for a family of four vacation. Pool area small and unimpressive. Fine for business travel.

The lobby of the hotel was really nice. However the rooms were not as nice. The carpet was dirty and outdated. I was upset to find that the only parking available was a parking structure and valet. Guests are charged $25 to park in valet and $15 a day to park in the parking structure ON TOP of what was already paid for the hotel room. Our truck does […] not fit in the parking structure, so we were forced to valet it. Upon leaving I spoke with the front desk and told them about the situation. The said they would charge me the self parking rate of $15 rather than the $25 valet fee. I checked my charges the next day and they charged me the $25 for valet. fee.. Great location. Good Marriott service, always a high standard. Unfortunately they were doing some kind of construction while I was there, which sounded like a jackhammer two doors down, all day, including Saturday. I think they were cutting some pipes in the garage, but it was reverberating through the entire hotel. Probably wouldn't normally be a problem. The […] food was good, again, up to Marriott standards. The location is fantastic if you want to be close to La Jolla, shopping, and the main freeway (Hwy 5), which goes south to San Diego and north to Santa Barbara and LA. Clean, courteous staff, Internet $10 a day, parking $20 a day. Views are of the adjacent buildings (you can see the mountains in between), although it might be better in the higher floors. I was on the 5th floor. If you want a more La Jolla or San Diego experience, you'll want to be a lot closer to the ocean or downtown. This is more suited to a good business hotel stay. Read more
