We had a room w a balcony right at the center of town. We could watch the sun rise from the balcony. The room was a little small. The breakfast buffet was the best of all the hotels we went to on this Globus tour.

Booked this place based on the good reviews...overall we were not impressed. Room was not all that clean, and the staff at the front desk seemed more interested in the call they had going on their mobile phone than they were in actually helping us. Overall, it was not a terrible experience, but the ratings we previously saw seemed too high.

very comfortable, welcoming hotel; however, since we had prepaid we were caught by surprise to be assessed at checkout a "city tax" of more than 4 euros per day, and feel that hotels.com should've informed us of this in advance. Pros: good location and decent staff Cons: everything was outdated (example: box style television); very small room (even by European standards); room was 4th floor along main street and since the walls were thin, noise levels were unbearable 24/7. For the price, there are better hotel options.

Our room looked like it was decorated in the 70's - very dated and dirty carpeting. The bedding was updated though and the mattress was comfortable. The drain in the tub/shower backed up and we stood in water during our showers. Other bummer was that the free wi-fi was only available in the lobby.

Used to be the Jolly hotel. Great bargain hotel, good service and great location. "Free" Wifi in lobby sucks, the low speed makes it useless and people wonder in from the street to use it.

rooms are very small and totally outdated. Rust on the heating panels, in the fridge. Filthy carpet, dirty windows. You had to open and close the bathroom door to use the toilet. Old tv. This hotel needs a total make over.

A good location, but this hotel is scuffed and dirty. Curtains, towels, beds, everything is old and worn out. And this hotel is not cheap. Also, the worst internet service I've ever had in a lot of international travel. Could not get a reliable connection, and they charged $25 per night for internet! Go elsewhere.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. It was close to many sights and attractions Amsterdam had to offer. The staff, room, and overall stay was pleasant. My friend stated she didn't feel that she was far from home because of how everything was run.

Unbeatable location a block form Rembrant Square, next to Flower Market and 15 minute walk to RijksMuseum and Dam Place. Largish room, plenty of closet space. Appreciate the large bathroom towels but the lighting was awful - only high intensity spot beams from cieling casting shadows over one's face - hard for shaving and make up application. During our first stay in the forever surprising city of Amsterdam, we found the hotel lobby to be up to par of a four star rating, but the room itself wasn't. The bathroom fixtures had rust around them and old tooth paste was still on the sink from previous visitors. The staff however was pleasant and helpful.

We had a fairly good experience at this hotel. We liked that the staff were all good English speakers and that they took the time to explain the lay of the land to us. We did not like the woman who was at the concierge table by the restaurant (the long haired blond woman). She was, without a doubt, the rudest person in Amsterdam. We couldn't figure […] out why she was in that position. She was hostile to us and actually shooed us away from her table. Hopefully she will be fired soon. Also, I left half my spring and summer wardrobe (by accident) in the drawers in the closet in my room and I didn't discover it until I got back to the USA. They are very slow to respond to my email and they still have not assured me that they are sending my things even though I have done everything they asked me to do. I had high hopes for the hotel based on other reviews and the proximity to so many different attractions. My first room was beautiful, on a high floor with a bay window overlooking the rooftops. However, at night those lovely little pubs and restaurants let out a rowdy crowd. There was singing & yelling from about midnight to 3 AM on a Tuesday. Wednesday […] morning I asked to be moved to a different room because of the noise, they understood as it wasn't uncommon. I was moved to a different wing where my room still had a lovely view was about about 1/3 smaller. The TV was broken (the vertical hold, something I didn't know could be broken in the 21st century). The room smelled a bit of cigarettes, but I figured it was someone smoking in the halls. There was quite a bit of noise from the halls early in the evening, then around midnight my neighbor came back with 3 friends. The smoked and laughed and talked for hours. I called the front desk after another arrived at about 1:30. They sent up someone within 10 minutes, but the noise didn't change one bit. The party broke up at 3 AM. The next night the gentleman spent about 90 minutes on the phone, pacing the floor until about 1 AM. The walls are paper thin there. I could hear the plumbing above as well. The hotel never checked back with me about this issue the next day. No mention was made of it at check out. I really found the front desk staff cold and unhelpful. Read more
