Novotel Athenes

I stay at Novotel in the UK frequently so felt quite comfortable when booking. I was very happy not to be disappointed at the usual high standards and helpfulness of the staff.

The facilities are all there for this to be a great hotel but something was lacking. We arrived late and checked into our room which was a smoking room and we had requested non smoking. It smelt to bad so we asked to change rooms which was fine. In the next room there was no remote for the tv and it could not be operated by the buttons on the tv itself. […] Shower was barely a dribble. However the pool area on the roof was great but after having our dinner (in the hotel which was very good) we wanted to go up to the pool area to see the acropolis lit up at night but it was locked which was dissapointing. The free internet stations in the lobby were very useful. Staff were ok not that outgoing but answered all our questions well enough. Still very good value for money but wouldn't pay much more for a hotel in this area of the city. Read more

No problem with hotel itself but the location is very serious and dangerous area. We were assualted and suffered serious injuries. We had to cut short our holiday and go back home. It is a great hotel in a wrong area. Staff are great and helpful and they will do their best to make you feel home and comfortable.

Overall it is a very nice hotel. The staff are helpful. The roof bar was amazing, just a shame that it does not open until June. Nonetheless we were allowed to use it and bring our own drinks. As a frequent traveller I was very disappointed with the poor standard of the room at Novotel, Athens. It was not even close to a 3 star rating. Overall the room was run down and after having reqested a non smoking room, specially as I was on holiday with my family, I was given a very offensive smelling "smokers room". TV was faulty. Minifridge did […] not work. carpets were VERY dirty. Pillows were absolutely horrible. Bed linen was not up to the minimum expected standard. Had to make my coffee in the virtuallly flexible plastic cups. No spoons. Tea / coffee was not replaced daily, unless requested. When I asked if I could take a quick snack and a drink very early in the morning, it was not clearly stated that this was extra, so I ended up paying 14 euros for a 3 minute breakfast. Otherwise the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

I would have given a very nice review of the Novotel but I can't. The staff members were horrible, they did not smile and acted as if they did not want to be there. None of them seem that interested in anything, The room itself was okay and relatively clean but I don't think I quite like the frosted glass door for the bathroom. I had to leave the window open at night but then the street below never sleeps there was constantly noise 24/7 cars, bike and people shouting being that its a not so nice area. The morning after I first checked in, the lady who replenishes the mini bar in the rooms burst into my room with her own key and without knocking shouting "Mini Bar Mini Bar" I was so furious. After she opened the door and saw me then she knocked on the open door still shouting mini bar, I was so shocked and couldnt speak for a bit, then when she was leaving with not as much as a sorry, I called her back and said not to do that again but instead she pointed to me putting the "Do not Disturb". I complained about this later in the evening by phone to a gentleman at the reception, instead of an apology, all I got was he knew the Mini bar lady very well and how she works, so I must have been sleeping and didn't hear her even though I said I wasn't. We love Novotel for its family friendly policies. Staff members were very friendly. The breakfast was fantastic at reasonable price. The hotel is conveniently located. Though the surrounding area is a bit run down, it shouldn't bother a tourist. We hired a double room. The rooms were huge. Kids loved XBox station in the lobby.

Great staff, could not have done more for us! We always requested extra tea which was not a problem and always bought to our room very quickly! The Internet was also really quick in the room and free! Had a great stay, only around 3-5 stops from all the sigghts on the Metro, and a 5 min walk to the Metro!

Although located across a congested road a little away from the City Square, the Hotel is quite big, clean and equipped with all the facilities expected from a 4* hotel. This is probably the worst recommendation from Expedia ever. Here I was boasting to my friends how Expedia never gets it wrong and I land up at this hotel. This is not a family friendly hotel. The bathroom and toilet is small; it has no locks on it. Very small room and were given a double bed and sofa bed for kids. Once the Sofa bed was laid out no […] space for anything else. All out luggage had to be piled up in the corner of the room. No wardrobe space; no bell boys; we have to haul our luggage up. Their idea of play area is a small corner in the lobby of the hotel. Video Game place is also there but that is in front of the doors to the hotel. Even for a business hotel this is pathetic. They don't have a printer in the business center. Area that the hotel is located is also not so good. After dark; lots of guys hanging around the hotel. Some of the staff were really helpful and nice some I thought were racist. The taxi from Syntagma square cost just slightly more than two metro tickets so at night you should use them to get to the hotel to be on the safe side. Omonia square has a bad reputation so do not approach it from there. All in all I can recommend this hotel despite the neighbourhood. There is no real safe place in any big cities in southern Europe but if you are prudent and dont keep all your mony and passport ! in one place you can minimize the risk. Read more

Located in the middle of red light district, not advisable to go out after dark. Grafiti every where. Not nice. Food average, pool small and shallow 0.5m at on end. View from roof nothing special, Restraunt on the roof been to bigger roadside food vans. Spend your money on 5 star. For a bit more money you can get a lot more and be safe!

The Hotel was clean and the staff were all friendly and very helpful. The free wifi was also good although only available in the lobby. As many have reviewed, the surrounding neighbourhood is a bit dodgy but it did not seem unsafe. The rail and metro are also easy to get to. Be prepared to pay through the teeth for drinks on the roof top bar. It is a nice veiw though and the pool is nice as well. There are a lot of reasonably priced restaurants in the area that serve excellent quality food and drink. Novotel hotels are consistent world-wide. Clean, reasonably priced, modern hotels, often in poor locations in a City. This one was no exception but, I would not stay there are again if visiting Athens. The Hotel was good but, the area was terrible.

Very nice folks, very ready to please, nice hotel (rooms are quite small, but clean), but in a very 'seedy' unsafe part of town. Would not go back and would recommend against staying at this "4 star hotel" (those 4 stars were the primary factor in our choice of this hotel). Both my wife and I were pick pocketed (two separate events) on way back to hotel […] on the Metro - despite attending to cautions ('they' did not get much, since we had been warned -- we realize this could have happened regardless of where we stayed). the room and the hotel is clean and good maintain. Only problem is one of pc provided in the lobby for free internet access is not working for my entire 3 nights stay. Notified the hotel staff and they said already informed IT department but it take ages to be fixed. So only one pc available which is definitely not enough. The nearest metro will take at least 10 mins by foot but is not a problem for us. from the port to hotel will cost not more than 20 euro if you cross the road to the opposite to take meter cab. We both enjoyed our stay at Novotel Athens. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Although our shower plug had a bar of soap caught down in it, which caused the shower tray to fill up with water that covered over our feet - not ideal. The roof […] top pool, restuarant and bar was awesome - with amazing views of the Acropolis, especially at night. A litttle more pricey on the drinks than we are used to - but it had to be done. Novotels rooftop is perfect for chilling out at the end of a hot day sight-seeing in the sun. Watching the sun set and the lights come up on the Acropolis was magic! The area around the hotel is a little dodgey - but i wouldn't let this stop you from booking a stay at this hotel. I wouldn't venture out of the hotel at night by yourself. But during the day it is fine. As a lot of other reviewers have said, this is an excellent hotel in a slightly grim part of Athens. Lots of professional ladies nearby, grimy streets, not hugely convenient for metro and Acropolis etc. But the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, the hotel itself was one of the nicer ones I've ever stayed in, the ice cold glass of beer in the […] bar after walking back in 30deg heat was superb. We were very glad that we stayed at this hotel. The receptionists were welcoming, friendly, efficient and kind. There is 3 nice big lifts in the hotel. The hotel is appearantly not in a good area but it looked to me like the rest of Athens. The area was not seedy. The Larissa metro was less than a 5 min. walk awsy. One gets the feeling that the hotel […] thinks of everything to make their guests happy. From a cute playing areas for little ones with their own computors and games to free internet and use of 2 dedicated computors for the hotel guests in the lobbly. The hotel is clean and very spacious and comfortable. The selection of food at breakfast was overwhelming and good. The swimming pool on the top of the hotel was a winner and welcome in the heat of Athens. I got the idea that some families just stayed for the day without going out. The view from the roof were unbelievable. Athens is massive and I were told that Greece has a population of 12 million of which 5 million live in the area. Thank goodness for the excellent new, clean and efficient metro thanks to the Olympic games. There was a great local restaurant around the corner where we ate at night. I always prefer eating out where the locals do. The prices are half of the hotell's and the food portions were way too big, delicious and fresh. When you exit the hotel, turn left, cross the road and walk left and turn right at the corner. It is less than a minute from the hotel. Read more

Notre chambre familiale nous accueillait tous dans la même pièce. Lit double pour les parents, et canapé lit pour les enfants. Petit déjeuner consistant et varié au buffet. Possibilité de diner; service un peu long pour un repas rapide avec des enfants. Très jolie piscine en toiture avec vue sur l'Acropole et l'ensemble de la ville.Un restaurant d'un certain standing y ouvre le soir. l'Hôtel dit être situé près de la place Syntagma, mais il est à 30 minutes à pied (longue distance en pleine grève totale, avec nos 7 bagages). Un appèl de l'aéroport pour savoir comment faire les 45 km de là n'offre que des information rudimentaires. Pour le retour à l'aéroport, l'hôtel a su trouver une voiture, bien appréciée. Mycket fint hotell med trevlig personal. Fin takterrass med pool och utsikt över Akropolis. Området runt omkring hotellet var mindre trevligt. Dock var det nära till Metron. Metron var för övrigt ett smidigt och snabbt sätt att ta sig runt. Det tog mindre än 10 minuter att ta sig in till centrum. Större mataffär i närheten.
