Gramercy Park Hotel - New York

The hotel was just wonderful. The renovation is lovely. The location, across from Gramercy Park is perfect. This is such a nice neighborhood, with Union Square close, as well as many fine restaurants.

I stayed at the Gramercy Park Hotel for about 2 weeks on my last trip to manhattan and I absolutely loved it. The restaurant has great good down stairs and I had the time of my life at The Rose Bar each time I went! Especially great service from Jonas!!! Will definitely be back on my next trip

The hotel had an art gallery in it and a very helpful information book. We ate at the terrace cafe for breakfast and had cocktails at the bar the evening before. All employees were exceptionally accommodating.

This place was special in decor, service, and overall unique vibe. From start to finish, we were treated extremely well. Our concierge was well informed and very comfortable fullfilling our requests for an IPOD to dinner and club reservations. Our bellman held a very small lost item of mine for two days until he was back on duty and presented it to […] me as we were leaving!. Guests have their own private park to tour right in the heart of the city. Rooms are very quiet and the elevators speed you up to your room and open effortlessly and without a "ding" as to not disturb others. The hotel is wonderful and the location is great, particularly with access to the beautiful Gramercy Park. We had a ladies' weekend, and had a lot of fun. The hotel would be great for couples as well. The hotel bar was fun, but the Terrace Restaurant was only alright. We went to the Terrace for brunch at 10:30 with a reservation through the concierge, […] but since the concierge cannot make reservations at the restaurant, there was a little confusion when we arrived. We were sat within 10 minutes, but overall the service was slow, but everyone was very nice. The food was not fantastic, good, but not what I would expect from a high-end hotel. As for the rooms, the size was nice for three people and all the amenities in the room were wonderful (i.e. bath wash, soap, and such). The comfort of the bed was only ok. I am surprised they do not have sleep comfort or less lumpy beds. The iPod dock was a nice addition and helpful as one of our group forgot their iPhone charger. The hotel was nice and clean, however, very dark - lighting in the rooms, hallways and even elevators was very dim. Also, there were no bureaus in the room so nowhere to store clothes or personal items other than hanging clothes in the closet. Limited outlets for use of iron also.

Was on the seventh floor and they had a fire on the top floor around 2AM. Checked they internet and it happened last year also. Check it yourself on the net. They spent the next day and night cleaning the top floor and kept us up the entire night moving furniture around and mopping up the water. No one at the desk cared. The only good thing about the hotel was the location and the decor of the room. Besides that it was over priced, they suggested a horrible restaurant, and the bar downstairs played music so loud until four am on week nights that we were up all night bc of the rattling walls and we could even sing along with the music it was so loud. Gramercy Park Hotel seems somewhat past it's prime. Incredibly dry air, impossible to control temperature in room and, at least on the 3rd floor, you might as well be in the disco down stairs. We stayed here over the Christmas weekend and generally found the hotel to be comfortable and pleasant. An interesting plus is the artwork on display, primarily in the lobby. Two drawbacks: our room while comfortable lacked reasonable storage space for clothing. Second, the service generally seemed a bit off, particularly in the restaurant in the hotel. […] Our waiter at breakfast didn't notice that both of us left virtually all of our oatmeal. When he brought the check, I commented that it had been inedible, which basically prompted him to argue the point.....clueless. That said, I'd probably go back. Definitely a hotel with attitude, although the bellmen were very friendly and helpful. The pour perfume through the hallways, so the smells are overwhelming, and the dim lighting annoying. I have stayed at dozens of ny hotels and was eager anticipating something special based on the reputation of this hotel. Any room should be reveiwed on the dynamic aspects vs static aspects. The adjacency to Gramercy Park and the surrounding area of GP/Flatiron/Union Square is one of New York's most vibrant neighborhoods with great restaurants, shops, and live music clubs. Just felt that the service in the rooftop restaurant was really lacking for a higher end hotel. I stayed at the GPH the night before my wedding and it was quite a treat. I didn't mention anything to them when I made the reservation, but my wedding planner had dropped my wedding dress off in the afternoon and when I showed up they'd upgraded me to a larger room and had even given me a yummy cake! The hotel was really quiet -- I had a view of the street and there was very little traffic and no noise, even though it was a Friday night. The amenities were also top quality and the lobby was lovely. I live nearby. If you're from out of town and looking to get away from touristy New York, this area is a good choice. There are big familiar stores clustered around Union Square, but it's also a real neighborhood with real restaurants and stores and delis. It's easy to get to the big attractions, but also easy to ignore them and just blend in with the locals. 3 other ladies and I traveled to NYC for a girls weekend, and we had a great time, and great stay at The Gramercy Park Hotel. Staff were very helpful and when we needed more towels, or ice, they were quick to provide it! Everything was great in our room, and I would highly recommend it again, or consider it for our next stay.
