This hotel will surely close soon. Every aspect smells of failure, including surly and incompetent service, a constantly malfunctioning heating system, and run down accommodations. It must have had its day, but that day is long gone. Strongly advise against it.

The weather was unusually cold and the heater was not working properly. We almost froze the first night. The repairmen were not available to fix the problem. Also they charge $5.00 a day extra for a second person and an additional $15.00 a day for no extra services. So it is not as cost savings as it looks. The location is great but the facility is old and needs lots of maintenance. They also did not offer any compensation for the inconveniences.

We couldn't get it to work right so we shut it off and shivered until 5am. That's when I packed up our stuff and checked out.You get the impression that they are going out of business. The place is just run down. Do not stay at this hotel! You will regret it.

The Cottonwoods has seen better days. In fact, from what I could tell, it is not long for this world. They have cut room service to save money, they no longer maintain their hot tubs, and most of their clientele has already entered retirement. Here are a couple of complaints: hair in my bathtub, a heater that blows cold air, internet access that only works some of the time, broken drawers on the dresser, no room service, and worn furniture. On the other hand, the grounds are beautifully maintained, and they do hang hammocks between palms at various points, which is a nice touch. All in all, you would be better served somewhere else until someone buys this place and restores it to its former glory.

I booked this room because it had a private jacuzzi on it's own patio. This was the only reason I booked this room. No one told me before checking in that their Jacuzzis had been closed due to the wrong type of drain system so I paid the higher price for nothing. I could have stayed in a regular room and saved alot of money. Then when I checked out, I had to pay for the resort package of $10.60 which included internet, in room coffee, 2 bottles of water, a room safe, a refrigerator. I did not know this was going to be another charge and was not on the website and I didn't use or need these things anyway. Ask about this resort package fee when you check in.

While we got our room for a great price, it was deceptive. This was definitely not a 3 1/2 star hotel. It might have been thirty or forty years ago. The entire property is in serious need of refurbishing. It is located adjacent to a high-end outdoor shopping mall, so we were expecting much better than what we received. The tile on the floor was cracked. The grout was dirty and crumbling. The wood on the bathroom door frame was rotting. There were stains on the carpet, curtains, lampshades, and bedskirts. The room had a damp, musty smell that we could not get rid of despite opening the window and turning on the air conditioning. We were disappointed in our experience.

The cleaning was okay, but all in all, I am pretty disappointed this time. I used to enjoy this place, but I REALLY feel they were pretty dishonest at the desk. I will really look elsewhere next time before I stay here. You should too.

We were pleasantly surprised by the option of checking in early (although there was a small fee) because that gave us the chance to explore the area and also give us more time for using the hotel's amenities since we were there for only one night. The units are on the older side but comfortable, with one notable exception: the bathrooms are really too small. You can barely open the door without hitting the commode. If the resort ever considers updating their units, this is one area they should definitely pay attention to. Everything else was great.

The main pool and jacuzzi were very dirty so we were unable to swim. Jose at the pool bar was great so we sat with him to use up our food&bev credit. No room service kind of a bummer and the "kitchenette" is less than functional for actually cooking. Was nice but not worth the rate.

We stayed one weekend in September, and I rate my stay here as mixed good and not so good. The location is great, being right next to a very classy group of shops in Scottsdale. Another nice thing is the bed, which seemed new and was very comfortable. However, we were given a casita that, although very nice itself, was far from the parking lot, and so we had to carry our luggage farther than most other places. Also, our casita was immediately opposite the pool area, and the wait staff had nothing to do so they talked very loudly for hours, and it was very annoying as we sat on the porch trying to enjoy the weather. In addition, there are no fans in the room, so if you don't like to have the air conditioning on all of the time, then you are just plain hot inside. The last thing is that as I checked out I was told that there was an additional "resort fee" for using the facilities, and we were not told about this when we checked in. Of course, I did not pay it, but it was a not-so-honest way to try and get more revenue. I do not recommend this place highly, but if you do stay here make sure that you refuse to pay the fee!

Not only was it very loud but it never got above luke warm. But the resort pool and jacuzzi were open until midnight so it wasn't really an issue. Breakfast was great, and free with the credit, and the kids loved the food at the pool. They let us check out and said we were welcome to hang out at the pool and they even left our food credit open so we could use it after we had checked out. We still had about $20 on it when we left. I would definitely stay here again with this same deal.

Connie at the front desk was very rude and unucomidating when I stated that I was never notified of such a fee.
