McCamly Plaza Hotel - Battle Creek

We had to request a different floor as our original room smelled of smoke and mildew. The pool is very inconvient you have to walk through the hotel lobby through a stairwell then with a security access to get into the pool. The pool furniture was old rusted outdated, overall it was dark and dingy the kids didnt even want to swim. The one wall is glass […] there is a small half circle with a few lounge chairs, fence then the parking lot. The hotel is connected to a plaza with a roller derby stadium we were not able to walk around the surrounding blocks due to a few safety issues. If you didnt pay for valet parking you need to park in the garage around the corner, it is connected but a walk from the hotel lobby, every time you need to leave you have to pay for each entry. Lack of staff prohibited a shuttle to the casino after being told at the time of reservation that this service would be provided. The Porter was very curteous, professional, pleasant,efficient, and helpful despite being overloaded. The front staff were dispicable. They were not friendly at check-in or when leaving. No receipt was placed under the door and this caused extra time at check out and forced us to once again interface with very unfriendly and uncaring staff. We were not even greeted when we arrived. The room had no tub just a small shower and the rim was not sufficient to keep the water in. The very irritating shower curtain kept clinging to my body when I showered! Very disgusting. The hotel was recently renovated with mixed results. Floors 12-15 seem to be the best and most complete. The other floors have a good enough for Battle Creek feel, missing artwork, lamps and electrical outlets that are supposed to be attach to the headboard, leaving empty holes in their place. Low quality workmanship on the bathroom ceilings. It looks […] like they had to add a sprinkler head and somebody used pizza dough has a drywall patch. However, floors 12-15 are nice and have all the accessories installed on the headboard and artwork on the walls. The artwork consists of photographs of local architecture which is exceptional for a small city. The hotel faces two beautiful 20 story art deco towers that give this small city an impressive skyline. Request a room on the 12-15th floors facing the art deco towers and you will be fine. I called the hotel to request that our two rooms be adjoining. The hotel not only didn't have adjoining rooms for us - they had our reservation as only one room. Though I reserved and paid for two. We eventually got rooms next to each other but NOT adjoining. The rooms were for a birthday party/sleepover.

Hotel was okay, but had a very bad odor in the hallway and room. It smelled like a chemical of some sort. Front desk was not very helpful and only had ice machines on three of fifteen floors. Two of them didn't work. :(

Ours was a last minute stop for the night. I did not like having to pay for parking, but, understood that space was limited in the "downtown" environment. My love fell further the next morning when I was told that it would cost a half nights stay for a late check out of 2 hours and a full rate for longer. I was traveling alone and attending a concert at Kellogg Arena so I was especially pleased that I could attend the event without going outside. My room was very quiet and clean. I enjoyed my stay very much and really enjoyed having a 12:00 check out time.

The hotel had a little age to the public spaces, but the room I stayed in was newly remodeled and was fantastic! It was a great stay, of course this is attached to the Kellog center so pay attention to the event calendar if noise could be an issue. I was there when there was nothing going on so I even got my parking for free.

DO NOT STAY HERE! I would need more space to describe all the uncomfortable that happened during our stay for two nights. First night was fine, second different story. Security was called for radio being on in room. Told us it was not loud but some people were just that way and walls were paper thin. Then our toliet would not work properly. Could not […] get fixed. As were are changing rooms security called again saying we were too loud moving rooms. Security then threatened us if they were called again they would throw us out!! It was ridiculous. I stayed there when i went to a concert at the kellogg arena. the convienience of the hotel would have been nice except that after the concert they would not let anyone with A room through to the hotel and made everyone walk outside and around in A snow storm including A man in a wheel chair. Also, the pool was broken and we could not use. After the […] stay we had to pay to get out of the parking grauge even though we paid to get in the night before. so we paid $5 to park in their parking ramp at night and the next morning after our stay we had to pay another $6 just to get out. Word of caution: very nice hotel but the train track side of the hotel is very loud! Expect to be waken by train horns several times per night. I should have known by the complimentary ear plugs on the nightstand. The other side of the hotel (odd number rooms) was not loud at all for the second night.

Rooms were exceptionel clean well decorated and very comfortable. Parking was a minor problem in the fact that there was a city wide baseball tournament going on and parking was at a premimum in the immediate area of the hotel. However, there is a parking structure attched to the hotel but a bit of a walk. Will stay here again.

We had attended the Balloon and Air Show on July 3rd and we were taking the train to Chicago on the 4th. The front desk had inidcated that we could leave our car in the valet for the time we were going to be gone and offerred to get us a shuttle to the train station. Very dated hotel, parking is extra and right now there is alot of construction downtown. The room was not really clean-even a dated hotel can be great if the rooms are clean. People need to remember it's Battlecreek Michigan, not Manhattan, it's also an independant hotel not the Ritz-Carlton. Booked a stay to see a show at Kellogg Arena, which is attached on the ground floor (can't be more convenient than that). The only issues we had was the TV remote (didn't work, but I didn't care all that much), the alarm clock (not loud enough, but I had a wake-up call that was), and the fact that the restaurant had a long wait right before the show […] (I should have assumed that). Upon getting home, I did discover a billing error (extra charge to my card). I called the desk and was referred to their accounting person, who had it fixed within hours, very cheerfully and apologetically. Mistakes happen, but when they are fixed this quickly, I won't hold it against them. We plan to stay again, next time there's a show we want to see at the Arena. Read more

My son and I were in town for the night. I really liked the hotel itself - very easy to find. We arrived on Friday at 4:30 pm, and he had an appt. 9:00 am on Saturday. We had nothing to do, and the weather was not great. We went downstairs, and were happy to see that there was a restaurant and a Starbucks within the same complex. Then, as we thought […] "what are we going to do all night" we realized there was bull-riding event taking place at the Kellogg Center, which like the restaurant, was part of the same complex. We bought 2 tickets and had a great time! There was even a concert afterwards with Frankie Ballard, who I understand is an up-and-coming country star who hails from Battle Creek. All this and we never had to go outside! My only suggestion is that this hotel update their TVs - it had the old tube 19" TV, and the remote didn't work. At arrival we noticed that the lobby was full of children I asked the clerk what was going on and she told my that it was a wrestling convention. The whole hotel was full of kids. My husband and myself are in our late 50's we were there to rest and that was the last thing we got. On your website it said that we could have a refrigerator upon request, […] I requested one and never got one. When I took my shower not only was the water ice cold but I was standing in the water the tub was pluged. They came and fixed that and then I called to talk with a manager about not getting a refrigerator and the ice cold water that we were taking showers in the mangaer never called. It sucked. The hotel was packed and we had to travel to the 14th floor. It only took 15 minutes to get there onl to find our keys wouldnt work. We then went back down and got new keys only to find out that they did not work either. Finally the front desk came up with us and tried the keys which still did not work so she let us in with her master key. […] We were told after dinner to come to the desk for more new keys which we did. Only to find out that guess what they did not work either. When maintenance came up we realized our room 1419 now had 1422 on the wall. Maintenance said "Yep when we came to clean the key pad we noticed the room numbers had been switched. So we had been trying the keys in the wrong room because someone had switched thenumbers, yet the front desk, security etc did not notice that when they let us into the wrong room. We were then told the correct room and had to get our stuff out of the original room. A short relaxing getaway night turned into nothing but trouble. Not to mention that we had to pay to park at the hotel. This would have been handy to know in advance also. I was told since we booked through hotel.com we would not be able to get a refund so you can bet I will not recommend this hotel or this site to anyone and I will certainly not be using it again myself. The hotel staff is very helpful and very good at what they do. I was in a room that was renovated at some point but the workmanship was not very good. You can see seem in the drywall in the ceiling, not unfinished but now well done. The seems of the wall paper are evident and some have not adhered all of the way. In the bathroom, the exhaust fan was […] not hooked up and there was not a switch to turn the heat lamp in the shower on. Over the toilet was obvious water damage on both the ceiling and wall either from excessive amounts of steam from the shower or from water leak from the floor above. Also the reception on the TV was not great which is really disappointing given what looked like an HDTV on the wall. Be sure to use the valet service because you'll be charged for it regardless.
