Museum Art Hotel - Wellington

Staff is warm and helpful. Proximity to museum a big plus. Room size relatively small but was OK for two nights. Long lines at cable car ride. Suggest taking cab to top,take in the view,tour the gardens and ride down for the return.

I stayed with my family in a 2 bedroom apartment. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. There was a fully equipped kitchenette and we even had a washing machine and a dryer. The Museum Hotel is situated in the middle of the centre, near the Marina, shops, restaurants and a cinema. The hotel has a swimmingpool, spa and a gym.

This hotel is in an excellent location close to the harbor with all its restaurants and activities. It is also across the street from the Te Papa museum. They offer on site valet parking which is very convenient. It is also a short drive to the inter-island ferry ports. I would highly recommend this hotel for its location and quality of service.

Great boutique hotel in perfect location for visiting Te Papa. Small swimming pool adequate for lap swimming. Unique and interesting decor. Staff, like in other NZ hotels, recent arrivals not too familiar with the city.

The hotel must be new and have rollers under it because when the earthquake hit in New Zealand the bottom floor didn't even realize we had earthquake. My two daughters and I recently spent three nights here as part of few days away from our home in Auckland and were really struck by the value for money experience. Not that this was cheap but we were there to shop, see two plays and look around Welly. This place is clean, tasteful, considerate, artistic, and comfortable to an apparent variety of guests. […] We totally enjoyed ourselves and the accommodation offered more amenities for the rate than any place we have stayed in NZ. Stayed in one of the appartment in level 6 looking towards the harbour. Had all that you needed if you wished to self cater (microwave, oven, hob, toaster, kettle and coffee maker), even had a washer/dryer iron and ironing board. This was our second stay at this hotel and we would definately go back again. It's a great location, close to so many places. The bar staff were excellent with a very friendly attitude. Check in assistant not the best on arrival, not very friendly. The next shift were different again, very good service after that.

Well positioned to walk anywhere in the city ~good coffee to be found on Cuba st, with Orient Bay just a gem ! Good location, clean. Bar and restaurant good but expensive. Annoyed that everything was an added extra, given its one of the most expensive places in town $24 for wifi, no breakfast and even the coffee in room costing was poor form. Staff competence was moderate only.

I booked a harbour view room and as nice as the room was, the view was of the car park across the street not the harbour. We were woken early the next morning by the sound of dripping water and soon found out it from coming through the ceiling in the bathroom. Eye catching hotel with friendly staff. The artwork is breathtaking! Only downside for us was that were given a room with a lousy view, but we not in the room all that often for that to be a big drawback. The hotel restaurant, Hippopotamus, is worth visiting with fabulous French food and staff.

Postive and negatives. First the negatives: The hotel has a very confusing entrance. Approaching by foot it looked like a street cafe - it needs a good front entrance to suit its status. When I registered it was not made clear to me that a 200 dollar bond would be taken in case I damaged the room. I only became aware of it by checking my credit card […] balance. The ladder in the pool was unsafe. It looked like it had been that way for a while. The advertised coffee maker was a dead loss - disabled milk steamer and no complementary coffee for the machine. Kind staff, great restaurant but the room was very small and when someone talked in the hallway - it felt like they were in the room. Moving furniture around on the floor above - the conference room probably - tll midnight did not support a good night's sleep either.

This was a delightful stay in quirky surroundings. The amenities were great, we particularly appreciated the kitchen facilities, including dishwasher. A major supermarket is almost next door, so we could enjoy a meal of fresh green-lipped mussels in cream sauce, prepared in the comfort of our own apartment. The room was clean generally but needed a good dusting, lots of dust on some furniture items. I have a problem breathing with dust around so that really irritated me. The room service food is a bit expensive. The hotel restaurant is very expensive. I will probably recommend the hotel to friends given its excellent location and friendly staff.

The Museum Hotel did not disappoint. I was as impressed by the staff as by the creative, elegant and sometimes humorous appointments throughout the hotel. It was the genuine art (no mass produced design work here) particularly that made my stay memorable. This hotel is beautifully furnished and decorated. The exterior of the building doesn't give much away but once you walk in, the foyer is lovely, opulent even, with black, gold and brown furnishings and of course the eclectic mix of art work. We stayed in a twin studio which was understated than the public areas. There are two queen size beds and a […] kitchen with oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and washer/dryer. We never worked out how to get the dishwasher started though it did work because the cleaners used it to wash our dishes. The TV is big and there is a DVD player. The bathtub was huge (I could have used a step to get into it as the sides are pretty tall!). The French restaurant isn't huge so it's best to book ahead although we managed to have high tea without booking. The service in the restaurant was good without being overbearing and the high tea sweets in particular were delicious. The weather report, together with information about shows or exhibitions for the day, left outside the door of our room each morning was a nice touch. We stayed in Wellington 1st to 4th November and the locals kept telling us it was the windiest they could remember it being. I had been prepared for some wind but this was crazy! It was difficult to walk around at times. Luckily there are so many indoor things to do. We also used the lap pool, spa and sauna, all good ways to warm up and stay out of the wind! The Museum Hotel is a very good hotel. As in the name the hotel had various works of art around reception which were very interesting. The staff were very pleasent. The room we had was very nice but if you are offered room 140 or 141 be aware that it is near the hotel laundry. We were told about this on arrival but we were assured that the laundry only […] works during the day which was not a problem to us. What we were not aware of was that there is also guest laundry and a guest was doing her washing at 11 p.m. I had a word with the receptionist at the time but nothing was done. We stayed 3 nights and this was only a problem on one night. On checking out I mentioned about the noise of the machines late at night and they were going to check that a notice was up regarding the times of usage. This would not put us off staying there again we would just make sure that we did not stay near the laundry. Read more
