Average hotel. Hotel was constantly cold. WIFI in room was hit or miss. Staff friendly. Nice gym. Food ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location but that's about it."
The location is great (right next to Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square) but that's really all you're paying for. They advertise in-room WIFI but it didn't work. When I called the front desk they said the network went down and they were working on it. It never started working again before I left. The customer service was also lacking. I checked my bag […] with the concierge because my room was not ready yet and when my room was ready, I came back to get it and he told me to just go find it myself in the luggage room. He sent me to walk back through three rooms full of luggage to find my own bag. Not very safe because he never even checked my tag to see if I grabbed the right bag. "Great home base to explore London!"
This location was great for my short trip to London! It was convenient to the tube, and I was able to walk to most of the places I wanted to see. The room was small, but I packed light and didn't stay in my room much. No problem there! The hotel had restaurants and pubs nearby, and I was able to see the lights along the river each night without having […] to wander far from my hotel. I would definitely recommend this place! "great value, great location, comfortable room"
My stay was perfect. The room is pretty small but the bed is comfortable, the room is clean, the storage space more than adequate and the bathroom spacious and nice. I purchased the pre-paid breakfast and it turned out to be the best decision. The food was varied, plentiful and delicious - ranging from fresh fruit, yogurt and cereal to eggs and meats, […] potatoes and beans. A great way to start the day! Check out was fast and easy, with no unexpected charges on my bill. There is free computer access in the lobby and safety lock box in the room. The location is central to everything and the neighborhood, Covent Garden, is a great and safe place to walk around. High marks! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value in an ideal location"
I chose this hotel for the location -- Covent Garden is right behind the hotel. In less than 10 minutes you can walk to Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, West End theaters, National Gallery, the Thames and three Tube stations. The hotel does cater to tourist groups but it is well maintained, with the rooms impeccably clean. The single room is small […] with a twin bed and economy pillows. The room had everything I needed such as such as phone, tv, safe, hair dryer & full ensuite bath. I also liked there were no surprise charges, with plenty of complimentary amenities such as free wifi, free newspapers in the lobby and PCs with free printing. Overall, a great value. "My second stay at The Strand Palace"
I found the hotel to be devoid of its character that I had experienced on a previous stay in 2007. To begin with the room had a wood counter over the radiator causing the room and the bathroom to be cold even with the heat turned on. Also there was no luggage rack in my very poorly designed room. The window was very difficult to reach. I had to stand […] on a chair and then on the wood counter in order to close it. However, the room was clean and there was no mold in the bathroom. The breakfast was adequate. Best of all the hotel's location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best hotel in town"
I've stayed in lots of London hotels and this is definitely one of the best, if not the best. Friendly, super efficient service - I was allowed a late check-out with no trouble - and the location is ideal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Amazing location; otherwise I was underwhelmed"
This hotel's location simply can't be beat if you enjoy central London, and especially if you like walking to sights. It was a great jumping off point to see the City, the Southbank, Tate Modern, Bloomsbury, Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square (obviously!), Whitehall and Parliament, Piccadilly, even Hyde Park. But the single room was tiny with very, […] very little natural light. Breakfast was a huge disappointment--I couldn't tell whether the coffee I ordered was coffee or tea, and a drop of milk turned it white. The brown bread on offer was hardly whole grain; little different to white bread. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, great location"
When I manage to get to London I always like to stay at the Strand Palace since I go to theatres and museums now, mostly, when I visit London and from the Strand Palace I can walk to many of the venues that interest me. The hotel is right on the Strand, easy to catch buses or cabs or walk over to Covent Garden for the Tube. Rooms are small but comfortable. […] I usually go out for a smaller breakfast so don't usually eat at the hotel. But is is very good value for those of us who appreciate the National Theatre, Globe, Tate Modern, Portrait Gallery, etc. on the few days we might have to spend in London. "Good Hotel in Good Location - free Wifi is a plus"
When I first arrived at the hotel lobby, I was not really impressed and somewhat regretted my decision because I was hoping for something a little more impressive. I am not an ageist by any means, and don't mean this negatively, but it felt a bit like a retirement home to me. However, once I got up to my room, I thought, okay, this isn't so bad, it's […] pretty nice. And the location was great. And the staff was very nice. They printed my boarding pass for me and answered all my questions with a smile, etc. And well, it wasn't very expensive compared to other hotels. So, okay, yes I recommend this hotel, unless there is some special rate or deal at a nicer hotel nearby, otherwise for the price and location, go for it! Also, the free wifi was great and getting to the train to get to Heathrow Airport was easy. Just walk 2 blocks, turn right and walk up to the square a few blocks and you're there. To get the places like the Tate Modern, just walk a few blocks and cross the bridge, walk a few more blocks and you're there and then in the other direction walk several blocks to get to Picadilly square and Oxford St and all the shopping. So, you're right in the middle of differen't sights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
THis hotel is in the best location in the West End. 5 min. walk from Covent Garden tube and close to shopping, tons of restaurants and theaters. I enjoyed my stay but would not do the breakfast for 12 pounds again. Clean, efficient and helpful staff. Only complaint was I had to get going to the front desk for help with the free wifi.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A bit noisy"
My third time at Strand Palace as I love the Covent Garden location. This was the first time I had a room overlooking The Strand. There is a bus stop and a pub across the street making in very difficult to sleep. Next time I'll request a room off the main boulevard.Genuine Expedia guest review

great location on the Strand and next to Covent Garden, easy walking to Waterloo, Festival Hall, Victoria, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall etc. Didnt use the restaurant/bar on this trip, but have before and it was fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Strand Palace Hotel was really clean and located in a perfect location if you want to take advantage of the theater events in London. The walk to all the main sights (Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, etc.) is close and convenient. The rooms were small, but we mainly just slept in the room and were out all day. It was a bit difficult to get early […] check-in (we arrived to the hotel at about 1pm after an all night flight), which was annoying, but it was figured out within an hour. The staff was friendly and did the best they could. I would stay here again for the location alone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Central location, easy access to the tube, comfortable room and bathroom, very clean! Remember if you travel during the summer, this hotel does not have air-conditioning. "Great Location, clean, good breakfast."
Great location, clean, good breakfast. I asked for a quiet room and get one, which was really quiet, despite the fact that the hotel is located in a noisy street. The only strong disadvantage is lack of air conditioner, only fan. Therefore, if you expect a hot weather in London, do not take it.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great, central location"
Great central location, however, not super close to any tube station but only 10-15 walk to several tube stations. The neighborhood is really nice. The hotel was decent and clean. The staff was nice enough and the service was okay but nothing beyond offering just the basic service. There wasn't even much in the way of just offering a friendly smile. […] I used to manage hotels so I know it doesn't take much to be friendly and hospitable and do a little more than the basic to offer a more memorable impression. Only the overnight bellman acknowledged me in any way beyond the most basic level of communication necessary. Upon checking in, the front desk agent asked if I had any preferences and I said "wherever the quietest room is" and she said she would put me in a quiet room off the street. When I went into the room, it was pretty much the opposite. It was on the busiest street and on a fairly low floor. Luckily, there were wooden sliding doors that covered the windows and with earplugs, I was able to sleep so I didn't ask to be moved. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

After reading some review of the Strand, I almost cancelled by stay, but I am so glad that I didn't. The hotel was really nice and close to the theaters. The room was a single […] and small since I was traveling alone, but it was really quite well equipped and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and had a big shower. The location is really good--a short walk to Trafalger Square-close to Charing Cross Station and on a busline. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying their stay at the Strand. I'll definitely go back. This hotel is in an ideal location for many of London's sites. The Strand is within walking distance to Covent Garden, Embankment Gardens, Waterloo Bridge, Soho, Theatre District, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square (National Gallery). If you really like to walk the street The Strand is located on merges onto The Mall leading to Buckingham Palace. Also […] this hotel is close to Charing Cross and Embankment Underground Stations. "Cheap but you get what you pay for!"
The hotel room had no air conditioning so in a London heatwave it was almost Unbearable. My single room was tiny with a single bed against the wall. Additionally, there was a lot of renovation work at the hotel which made it noisy and They "evacuated" the hotel twice while I was there.Genuine Expedia guest review

Closets too small to hold a hanger.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The infrastructure of the hotel is inadequate for the number of guests if the hotel is nearly fully booked. Waiting for the elevators is a long and tedious experience; the breakfast room is overcrowded with long waits for a seat. There are no adaptor plugs for the UK electricity connection; instead these are sold by the concierge at a steep price. "Great location for theater/dining"
This hotel is a great value to be close to the sights, the tube, great restaurants and shopping. The lobby was a hub of activity but our room was quiet anhd comfortable. Stayed there 20 years ago and came back for the location. It has been nicely updated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, average hotel"
Having a great location is what makes this hotel worthwhile. It is near Covent garden, theatres, the southbank is a 15 min walk. The rooms are small, but clean. When I arrived after a long flight, I was unable to check in due to a fire alarm at the hotel. When I got to my room, I could hear the showers and toilets from the other rooms( constantly). […] The lighting is poor in the room, which made putting on make up a challenge! When it was chilly at night, the heater didn't work, but maintenance fixed it right away. I wasn't in London to stay in my room, so it was an OK experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"What a tired dump"
I'm usually not an overly critical reviewer on here, but I need to call it like I saw it: The Strand is a dump masquerading as a mid-level hotel. Yes, it's a good price for the area. But I still paid wayyyy too much for this quality. I paid for an "executive" class room, my colleague did not. Looking at the two rooms, there was no difference. Executive […] must mean you get free movies (who cares), supposedly a newspaper each morning at your door (which I never got), free wifi (dreadfully slow to the point of why bother). Other things my executive rooms lacked: non-working safe, incredibly small room (the photo on here must be their one dream room), because mine was barely a dorm room size. Also, the "queen" bed that really is a double, with a thin stiff mattress where, no lie, I could feel springs popping through on me when lying on the bed. My room was located down an endless hall, next to a sad fire escape door -- an area that looked like time forgot. Plus it must have been near their restaurant exhaust fan, because that part of the hall wreaked of curry. My "executive" room view: interior light shaft, window that opened a crack at the top. No A/C, no air flow because of the safety window, and a radiator that kept things toasty and dry air. Thank God I was there for only two nights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Small but convenience"
The room is TINY, but it's clean and conveniently located to most everything.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A clean room with adequate space. A bit of a walk to the nearest tube station, but the bus goes right by the hotel. Wifi was free, although the signal reception was weak in my room, and somewhat intermittent. All things considered, it was a reasonable value for the price, and I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
