The location is great, but for some bucks more you can get better options. It's great that the hotel has a pool, but old TVs, expensive internet slow connection definitely was not was I was looking for. Most of staff members (not all) were not friendly at all and whenever I asked for recommendations about public transportation, the data provided was wrong (which caused me a lot of trouble). Overall, the experience was not that bad, but I would definitely recommend to look for other options to consider.

The reception staff were very serious and not overly welcoming on arrival. We requested a queen room but were given a twin. Once we notified reception they reassigned us to a queen but given that it was their mistake it would have been nice if someone came to us with our new room keys rather than having us return to reception. We did get a quiet room at the back of the hotel as requested. The room smelled a bit musty but was clean as was the bathroom. The bathroom door was a sliding door but was really difficult to close. The coffee maching provided was absolutlely hopeless and outdated. I got quite sick on our last night in the hotel and the hotel operator was very helpful and the house doctor came fairly quickly when called. The internet facilities are quite expensive. Parking is also quite expensive. Security at the hotel was good at the front door. Overall the price of the hotel wasn't reflected in the quality of the accommodation but the location is excellent.

The staff was very nice and helpful. They have a pool, which is difficult to find in a hotel in Union Square. The furniture in the room was a little funky, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. They also let you print your boarding passes for free. I would suggest getting a room on the interior of the hotel, because when it faces the city streets, its loud during the nights.

As most of the reviews here and on travelocity will say, the hotel itself is clean but has extremely cramped quarters, and is most definitely not a top choice. There was a hole in the center of my bedsheet - something you should never find in a decent hotel. My biggest gripe was that the sink was outside in the room, rather than in the bathroom (which barely had enough room for a person to turn. Keep in mind that you will be paying for the location - if that along with cleanliness are the only essential factors and not comfort, the price of the hotel is not TOO bad.

While the location near Union Square is perfect (especially if you want to shop) be sure to ask for a pool side room. Our first night was in a room located overlooking Geary Street (and my parents room overlooked O'Farrell - way too noisy! You'll be awaken as the bars let out at 2 AM by all the noise and singing and again at 5 AM for delivery vehicles and trash collectors. Once we moved to an inside room (pool side) it was perfectly quiet.

I received a discounted rate through Hotels.com, which I thought was a great deal. Upon arriving and checking in, I was surprised by the condition of the hotel, and of the room in particular. The room was absolutely tiny, the floor squeaked and creaked, the furniture was old and in somewhat poor condition, and it smelled bad. I have to admit that I was a bit worried about sleeping under the covers, as odd as that sounds. And the 13' television didn't help my first impression. The area was mostly nice, and I felt safe going out late at night. There were so many homeless people, though, and I was approached a few times by scam artists with tall tales of needing bus fare and gas cans and such. My overall beef with the hotel, though, comes by way of their Internet access. Ten bucks a day, and I wasn't even able to access it one of the days. I received very weak support for this issue, basically ignored. I am an experienced computer user, an IT major knowledgeable in computer networking. I was treated as though it was my problem, which was very unfortunate. Overall, this is a two star hotel at best.

I recommend this hotel highly. Let me get the negatives out of the way. We had a small room with a view of another wall and vents. Who cares. If I wanted a better view I could pay more money. Now if I paid top dollar this would definitely be a complaint. You have to pay for the internet and for some odd reason they close the room at 11:00. For someone who likes to surf at any hour that's a major drag. But I wasn't in SF to be on the internet. Still I don't understand why you would chose to lose money or not care about making internet time convenient for your customers. This is the only complaint I have. The best thing about this hotel is that it's convenient to everything. You're right on union square. We didn't rent a car and had no problem getting around the city. SF has every form of transportation there is. You're right on cable car/bus routs and only two blocks from Market St. Where shopping and bus/trolley connections are easily made. I highly recommend the pass. From what I understand this hotel has been around for some time and you can see how aged it 'could' be if not for how well they maintain it. The staff is friendly and there never seems to be a line...not sure how full they were...plus they have a concierge. We took full advantage of that; very helpfull.
