Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. "Excellent location"
This hotel is a great choice for a citybreak to SF. The location is excellent, right on union square. Our room Maxes straight across the road instead!) The only negative is that they charged $10 a day for the wifi and it tends to be free in most quality hotels. Overall highly recommended.
"Perfection in SFO"
Highly recommend this hotel - had all services you need, staff very helpful, great location - few 100 yards to Union Square. Room was very good, and very clean! Only downside is the restaurant on site - even though it is very nice - it is quite expensive!
"Great location !"
I went to SF for 7 days and stayed in 4 different hotels. This hotel was just alright, it's in a great location, but the doubles are real small. Parking is expensive. If your traveling on a budget this is maybe a hotel you want to stay in..
"Great service"
The room was decent, the staff was helpful and agreed to store my luggage for the day after my checkout.
"great service - also close to union square"
i had booked a room that didn't come with a bathtub. when i requested for one, the front desk put me in a much bigger room with a bathtub :) that was a really nice touch. plus the hotel is really near union square, shopping was very convenient.

"Great location"
Our room was in the old part of the hotel, but very well maintained and very clean. The bathroom was extremly small as well as the room but was fine, we were in and out and only there in the evening. Could have used another chair but not enough room really to put one. Maybe next time stay in the portion with the balcony.
"Perfect Location, recommend it"
The best thing about this hotel is that when you walk out the door, you are on Union Square with all it's shopping, tour buses etc. You can walk everywhere from here, though buying a tourbus pass is recommended - 20$ for a ticket and it will take you to all the hotspots in San Francisco for 2 days! The location I loved, but the homeless people everywhere […] - not so much. At night, if you walk to the right, it's all right, but walk to the left and it gets scary. But that's the city - not the hotel. The neighborhood goes from complete luxury to city made homeless haven in just one block. Anyway, we went cheap and got the small rooms, and indeed they were small. No view, sort of dark room. No internet included, 10$ a day. Parking around 40$ a day, as in every SF parking garage. Would I recommend this hotel? Yes. It has a nice lobby, friendly staff that helped with booking Alcatraz and concerts, clean rooms and a perfect location. It was well worth it's low costs, since we only slept there for 2 nights. If you are staying in SF for a long time, you might want to get a bigger room. Location location location! Read more

"Perfect time"
the staff and location of the Handlery was great. Great times!!!!
"Loved it!"
Great Hotel with old school charm! Very close to everything you must see in San Fran! Very Romantic...we loved it!!!
Great location. Overall a good experience staying there. Although , the breakfast we ordered was a little pricey and not enough value for money. If you stay there, consider eating outside .
"Good enough"
If you're not too picky about size of rooms and style of decor, and just need convenience and cleaniness, then this hotel is for you. The beds were very comfortable, and the hotel is walking distance to all the shopping centres. It was perfect for my needs and I would recommend this to my friends.

"The Handlery Hotel, SF, Union Square"
Great location, very clean, staff excellent, close to everything....always try to stay there if they have rooms available.
"Handlery Union Square Hotel"
My daughters and I stayed for our fist time at the Handlery in Union Square. We will stay again as everything was perfect. The Daily Grill is attached to the hotel and they have a Gluten Free menu which was a big win for us. The location couldn't be better for shopping. The garage is valet and only $38 per day. There is a loading zone in front so you […] can register. The Bellmen are top of the line. We highly recommend this hotel. Read more
"Pluses and Minuses"
A pleasant hotel in the heart of SF. The age of the building is apparent in the tiny elevators, maze-like hallways, and creaky floors- but the hotel is clean, the staff friendly, and the neighborhood is amazing. It was nice to see the windows were original, double hung rolled glass, and while the view from our "petite room" was of a wall, it was nice […] to get some fresh air. I would be liked if the concierge, front desk or bell staff offered some information on the local area. The bed wasn't too comfy, and the room wasn't huge, but the price was right, the building felt safe and quiet, and who stays in their hotel room in SF anyway. A lot of reviews state that the water pressure was terrible - half way up the building, our water pressure was strong. Read more
"very happy"
The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We would stay there again.
"Handlery Union Square - good, central location"
It was a good stay at the hotel. Front desk & concierge were friendly, cheerful & helpful. Centrally located. Short 2min walk to Macy's and the popular Cheesecake Factory upstairs. There is a convenience store round at the back, good for stocking up on water & fruits.
"Ask where your room will be!!"
Our first nite was great but the second night was horrible!!. We decided to stay another night in a single bed room without our friends. Even though the front desk told us they were wide open with rooms due to it being New Year's Day he put us in the worst possible room...right on the street!! Horrible noise!!

"Best Classic Style Hotel in SFO"
This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the Handlery Hotel on Union Square. The classic styled decor, old fashioned elevators, the Daily Grill restaurant /bar -- and phenomenal location are always what leads me back to stay in this cozy and bright hotel. High Marks to this place!
"location, location, location"
Arriving at the Handlery right after Christmas was a wonderful experience. The hotel was decked to the nines in very tasteful CA decor. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location in the heart of SF is hard to beat. Previously we stayed a few doors down the street for nearly double the price. Definitely a great alternative to big names […] and boutique hotels (which can be a bit overdone). The room was spacious, clean, well appointed. Only reservation might have been the view out the window (facing another wall). Overall a great place that should be worth checking into. Thumbs up! Read more
"Great location, get large room"
If you get a large room you are OK, but if you get stuck with a petite, run...run...run...cause tehre is no place to put 1 bag. I got the large one with my family, a friend got the small one, for the $20-40 definitely get the large one with 2 queen beds. Hotel location is excelent, even at night, no danger. Just one glitch...DO NOT RENT A CAR. Hotel […] desk told me 1st the parking would be $38/night, super expensive Vs Miami, then I got hit with $47 becuase it's an SUV..... Better get on the hop-on hop-off o taxis !!!! Read more

"Handlery In Union Square, San Franciso, Ca"
Main focus was to be in the heart of Union Square, location the Handlery has right in the heart of things!! Upon checking in the room requests were not met, i.e., higher floor away from elevators/vending/ice machines, on quiet side of building. Called front desk, the second room was better. This is an older hotel, but well maintained. For the price […] it suited the purpose. Read more

"Holiday 2011"
We enjoyed our stay at the Handelry - it was convenient to everything and in a great area. Our only complaint would be that the size of the sheets did not match the bed!! I hate when the sheets are all bunched up under you in the morning because it is impossible for them to stay tucked in!! Other than that, we will stay again!

"The Handlery"
Location, location, location!!
"SF Union Square Hotel -- great place!"
If you are looking for some old-fashioned fun time, this is the place to stay. It feels a bit tight with sheer sights to see within walking distance. The neighborhood has the flavor of Paris with lots of shops and cafes and breath-taking views!! Merci, what a stay!
"petite suite"
the room was nice and everything was clean, the elevator baacked up to our room and was very noisy, I closed the closet door and that took care of it. It was the only closet with a window I have ever seen.
Great location! Extremely helpful personell!
"Great old San Francisco feel....."
This was the first time staying overnight in the City, however we make the hour drive every Christmas to Union Square. Handlery Hotel is a great place to stay, you can't get closer to Union Square, cable cars, great shopping. Staff was great, and the best restaurant in town, Daily Grill, is right in the hotel. We will totally stay here next year, or […] any time we want a getaway in the City... Read more
