"Not bad for a quick weekend visit if it's a deal"
My wife and I had a great time in NYC, and the Helmsley Park Lane was convenient for what we wanted to do in NYC. The room was OK, but there were some issues. Two of the lamps in the room didn't work since their switches to do so were either missing, or had been broken. The TV remote didn't work, so we had to change channels and turn it on and off manually. […] Maid service was excellent. I always had the feeling that if I touched anything in the room, I was going to be charged for it (ie: the mini bar). Leona's and Harry's pictures in the lobby need to go!!! Especially hers!!!! "I always enjoy this hotel."
I always enjoy this hotel because the rooms are spacious, sparkling, ultra-comfortable, and luxurious. As are the amenities in the room. I also enjoy the restaurant, Harry's Bar and the commitment of the staff to excellent service.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The Park Lane is Wonderful"
This hotel was just about perfect for my family visit to NYC! We looked out over Centeral Park--how cool is that??? Location wonderful for walking to almost everything we had planned for our visit--5 museums, central park, Lincoln Center, Broadway, St. Patrick's, Columbus Circle, etc. etc. Battery Park, Statute of Liberty Ferry, 9/11 site, little Italy […] all just a short cab ride away. The staff at the Park Lane is most pleasant, professional, helpful and all displayed wonderful welcoming and engaging sense of humor admidst a completely full and sometimes chaotic hotel scene. Our rooms were lovely and kept so very clean and tidy at all times. The fabulous food court at the Plaza Hotel is just next door, Sarabeth's (incredible brunch and lunch) is also next door. The Park Lane Restaurant is wonderful also. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A Room with a View..."
This is a lovely established hotel. Well appointed, not trendy. We stayed in an executive garden view room that looked out right over Central Park's small pond. It was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Beds were really comfortable. One of the bathroom vanity faucets leaked. We did not report this to management. We had no complaints! We were told that […] the property has recently sold and its days as a hotel may be numbered. I'm glad we had the opportunity to stay here...to witness one of New York's most spectacular views from a perfect vantage point. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Rates...ahhh New York!"
Got a shocker when I saw what the rate jumped to on Tuesday night... I can't understand why the rate would jump by over $300 a night. Guess I slept through all the fun that must have been going on for the added cost of the second nights stay. I'll read the fine print before I finish my registration next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to school that our daughter is considering"
Fun to be near park Whole Foods MArket and good restaurants Would have been nice to have two queen size beds instead of paying for a roll away bed for our daughterGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel"
We received a good rate for our room, and although we read negative comments about the hotel prior to our stay, we were very pleased. My first concern is always cleanliness. The hotel lived up to that standard, and the room was very nicely decorated. I would definitely stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel in front of Central Park ."
Comfortable. Toilet made noise throughout. Bath drain semi-clog.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, Need renovation!"
I'm not satisfied with my visit. Internet surcharge for 14 dollars a day is not ok year 2013, not even free wifi in the lobby. The AC was worthless and the room was torn down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Birthday trip to the Big Apple!"
We checked in on Saturday and stayed for 4 nights after finding an excellent deal on Expedia. I've been to NYC several times before and this hotel is in a great location. Central Park is directly across the street, 5th Ave is a 2 minute walk away and you are very close to Sarabeth's for a stunning breakfast. Broadway is also close by and thanks to a […] very helpful Concierge we got last minute tickets to The Book of Mormon and First Date, both hilarious :-). We'd happily stay in this hotel again if we got the same deal. I gave the hotel facilities/condition a 4 due to the rather small gym, for those of you that would require one that is. We ran around Central Park as the weather was so good :-). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Tired and faded hotel"
No coffee or minibar in room, dried food stuck on the room service menu and the tablecloth. Dining staff running around and shouting like an airport taxi stand. This hotel has seen better days.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was very clean, comfortable, and well located near subways and Central Park. Our only complaint was that we would have liked to have had a coffee pot and a microwave to make tea in the morning.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel, friendly staff."
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, great location. We stayed 3 nights, room never cleaned. Staff rang doorbell to our room early, we stated we weren't up yet, we left our room 30 minutes later, put the clean our room sign on our door - no one ever cleaned it. Bathtub had mildew around it. Day of checkout, which was at 1:00 p.m. - the air conditioning […] to our room was shut off by hotel. Controls off and non-workable. By the time we left our room at 11:30 it was stifling hot in there. Food in restaurant was overly priced and not very tasty. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

great location to walk to all the major museums and Broadway showsGenuine Expedia guest review
They were very nice to us. They gave us the room at 12:00 even though the check in time was 3:00, no extra charge. They hold our luggage from 10:00-12:00. The room was very comfortable. If I needed something they brought them to our room. No noise in our room. The only thing negative was leakage in the ceiling in the bathroom and we forgot to mention […] it. Housekeeping was great. "Beautiful hotel adjacent to Central Park South"
Very helpful and responsive staff. We arrived and were placed in a room on the 8th floor with a view of Central Park. The next day we requested a room on an upper floor for a better view of the park and were nicely accommodated. The housekeeping, bell hop and concierge staff were all friendly and helpful as we left and returned each day. "Moderate quality to price ratio"
An excellent location for midtown stays in NYC. Naturally that comes at a price that is a good deal higher than some others in the midtown area, but given the views of the park and the city, this is to be expected. The bathroom was a bit tired -- having cracked and chipping tub surface in a few places, and grout that was discolored. But overall seemed […] quite cleanly maintained. The room was generously sized and in very good condition. The least good thing was the inadequacy of the air conditioning system. We had to have the maintenance crew come to clean out the A/C unit to try to get more cooling from it, but even so, it was clear that the unit could not fully deal with 90 degree weather. I'd hate to be in that room when the temps reached 95 or 100. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
For almost $700/night, I expected to have a nice room. The hotel is in serious need of an update. The tile on the bathroom floor was disgusting. The room would not cool down below 78 degrees and they used the excuse that that side of the hotel got hot during the day. That was not it. We had to use a box fan! In a $700/night room! There was old water […] left in our ice bucket (gross) so it obviously was not cleaned out. We asked for the manager and never rec'd a call. Do NOT waste your money!! "Disappointing High-end Rundown Hotel"
We were led to our room by a pushy bellhop. Building maintenance have been on vacation for years because everything looked run down. Wall paper was bubbling. Appliances and lighting was dated. Plugs for phone chargers are not convenient. Bathrobes were worn out. Bathroom floor was embedded with dirt. There was an open soda in the mini bar, and the front […] desk just told me not to touch it otherwise we would be charged. We must have bumped something because we ended up with a $10 charge. I would not recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Staff is Everything"
From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff were exceptional. The hotel is dated, and given the price and location, there are several comparable hotels that are a better value. However, the staff were friendly, helpful and consistently made every effort to ensure we had the information or services we needed. Timothy at the concierge desk, gave […] us his subway card and excellent directions for a trip across the Brooklyn bridge. The bell staff made sure we knew the layout and function of the room amenities as well as pointed out available services (e.g. fridge, concierge, mini-bar, etc.). The doormen helped us with transportation and made recommendations I would expect from the concierge. My recommendation to stay here is based entirely on the service and convenient location. To be sure, there is nothing functionally wrong with the facilities, I just expect newer amenities for the price, and I hope that the hotel is on schedule for a tasteful remodel. "Excellent maid service"
The maid who cleaned are room was efficient, friendly and accomodating. A bit intimidated by all the men standing in the foyer (employees) there was 3 to 4 each time I entered the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
great location is in center between up town and down town. In the front of the Central Park, walking distance to a lot to see in NY city. I recommend to any one who visit NY city for first time to buy the bus tour ticket to know a lot about the city in short time.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice hotel, close to the Central Park, close to the subway, close to museums, restaurants, Lincoln Center. Safe area.Genuine Expedia guest review
I expected a better room as it seemed dated. Location was great but compared to other hotels I've stayed at it was not worth the price. I had a stroller n no one helped open the door. I've stayed at the Rtiz Carlton n their service n hotel is way better with service n overall hotel experience. I will not stay at this hotel again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Expensive but one of the best"
This hotel was one of the best I've stayed at in Manhattan, and a nice location across from Central Park. Nice, big rooms that are well decorated, a good restaurant / room service, friendly staff, good all around. I got a great deal on it, but it is normally VERY expensive and I probably couldn't afford to stay there under normal conditions.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Helmsley Park Lane"
The big point in favor of the Helmsley Park Lane is its location. It is just across the street from Central Park, within walking distance of a number of museums, good restaurants, and entertainment venues. The "park view" rooms have spectacular views over the southern end of Central Park. The facility itself is outdated and beginning to show signs of […] wear. The air conditioner in our room rattled loudly all night (although the hotel fixed the problem after we complained), the plumbing was severely outdated and barely worked, and the public areas were adequate but not Class A by any means. We have stayed at this hotel before, and we have had some sort of maintenance issue (window shades broken, thermostat malfunctioning, etc.) almost every time. The rooms are comfortable once the maintenance issues are addressed. We have been willing to put up with the deteriorating facility in exchange for the location and the Central Park view, but not every traveler will feel that way. "classy hotel but needs a slight update."
Perfect location. Room was very nice bathroom could be updated, but still nice. over hotel is old work luxurious but needs an update. In the morning my girlfriend and I had dinner in the infamous Park Room, the hostess was very rude, staff cannot handle large crowds, food was overpriced. (But what do expect in a hotel in the most posh area of Manhattan.) […] Good stay overall checking in was pleasant and will recommend to another person. "Air Conditions don't work. 77 degrees in my room."
Air conditioner didn't work properly. First room's lowest temperature was 77 degrees, 2nd room after moving was 74 degrees. Place has a very shabby old feeling. Like a flop house from some 1960's movie. Booked room with Park view and both mornings when I went to open the roller shade, the shade broke and I was unable to see beautiful park view I had […] paid additional amount to see. Complained - but you could tell that the management had heard the same story time after time, and there was no use in telling them about the problem. ( because I believe they already knew and management obviously doesn't care if paying customers roast in their room as the norm.) Beautiful location but the worst hotel, please spend your money elsewhere. The staff was nice except for the bored manager. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Location, location, location!"
This is an older hotel that could use some renovation, but it is clean and comfortable and has the best location possible. You are at the south end of Central Park so you can walk to all the museums and enjoy the park. Yuo can also walk to the theatrer district and the best shopping. Madison Avenue shops are just a few blocks away. Best of all, Sarabeth's […] is right next door. This lovely breakfast nook has some of the best food in the city. "across the street from Central Park"
Excellent location, great view from our "City View" room, comfy bed, and a larger room than most that you find in NYC. Only negatives: the food (at least for breakfast) in the Park Room Restaurant was not up to par and the water pressure was lacking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel and not a bad price for NYC"
Everything was perfect, the room bigger than expected, very helpful people all around. You can't get a better location. The only trouble we had was that our room cards did not work, not just the first time, but the second. But they quickly rectified this.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent hotel next to Central Park"
We spent our honeymoon there and were very pleased about everything. The room was fantastic, very clean and comfy. The view over the park was overwhelming and the staff very friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The location was wonderful"
We could not get a taxi from the front of the hotel on Wed. night at 6:00! "You might want to take the subway if you need to be at your show at 7:00," too many people waiting. Room was large, bath room was in need of a good cleaning around shower, mold, wall paper peeling off, and hall ways in need of cleaning. Staff was wonderful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, older facilities"
Overall our stay was very good. We had two rooms, one with “park view” and one with “city view”. What you are paying for is location, it's one of the best. We were surprised that some of the areas looked “old” like the hallways and Henry’s bar. Not the best. The lobby is OK but it doesn’t have a Wow factor to it. The rooms were excellent though comfortable, […] clean and spacious. We would definitively go back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great locale and service but rooms need renovation"
The service was very good and the staff was very friendly. We were given a room on a high floor facing the park. The view was extraordinary! However, the hotel is long overdue for a renovation. "safe in room"
we were moved to a new room because the safe in the room used a credit card swipe to open and close it and our card didn't work. The management was very kind and gave us a room with a safe that had numerals---and was a much nicer room than the first one.The staff was exceptionally pleasant. We would certainly return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
