I stayed here on my last business trip to OC based on previous reviews. Outside of a beautiful pool area, this hotel was terrible. I was less than impressed by the service, quality, food, drink, all of it! I would have much preferred to stay at a cheaper hotel with less expectations. If you are looking for quality and are accustomed to excellence, you will be greatly disappointed by this hotel.

I went with my family thinking that it was going to be a resort vacation at the hotel but it wasn't. The hotel did not offer much. The room and the pool was small for a four star hotel. There was really nothing to see and do inside or around the hotel. Did not find it good for a family get away type vacation.

While the hotel was conveniently located near the airport, the concierge staff have deterred me from ever returning. I arrived at the hotel mid afternoon and needed to rent a car at the last minute. I looked in the in-room information booklet and called the 'on-site' rental car company. Upon calling, I was informed that they had changed locations. I went downstairs to ask the concierge where the rental car company was located. She informed me that the new rental company was closed for the day and that my only option would be to go back to the airport or go to a hotel across the street. I asked her which hotel location the rental car company was at and she told me I would have to call around and figure out what was open. I asked her what she thought my best bet was and she looked at me, rolled her eyes and told me it was unlikely I'd find anything. I ended up walking across the street to the Ramada (which only received 3 stars*) and was pleasantly greeted by the hotel staff and pointed towards the car rental desk. I was extremely disappointed that the hotel that I paid for was the less helpful and less gracious of the two.

Loved the location, service, restaurant and our room. That being said, our 8 year old girls would not get back in the pool after getting in briefly during our very warm stay over labor day weekend. It was filthy, and there were things floating in it. I don't know if it's because of the busy weekend or what, but when kids notice the cleanliness of the pool, you know there is a problem. Otherwise, beautiful place, and I highly recommend it. Tracy Murphy

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night. It was not good for me, (a business traveler on something of a budget), as their prices for everything exceeded my per diem. For example, one could only park the car by valet, necessitating a double-digit charge oer $20 (plus tip!). Menu items were very expensive. There was no coffee bar on site, so I couldn't leave the room and just get a coffee and a scone. It was an all-or-nothing restaurant with no to-go service. I didn't want to pay nearly $10 to have room service deliver me a coffee drink, so I went without. A nice hotel, but it is surrounded by office buildings and is very pricy.

Be warned that you will pay $28/per day to park at this hotel. The only option is a pay-to-park lot somewhere off the hotel grounds (who knows how far away), we were never made aware of this until we paid our bill upon checking out. The valet service is great, however, it would have been nice to know we were paying $28 each day to park there.

Loved my 11 day stay at the Fairmont. The pool area is lovely and I particularly liked the cold orange and lemon water on tap! The restaurant . bar and lounges are comfortable, beautifully appointed and the service is great. Chef's offerings were superior. Beautiful flower arrangements in the lobby that was quite spacious and attractive. The room was clean, comfortable and excellent quality. Unfortunately, the frig didn't work and there was no in room drinks and snacks. I was disappointed that the TV was only basic cable with HBO. A hotel of this caliber should have better service. The staff was helpful, cordial and professional. I will stay again on my next trip to Newport.

We chose the Fairmont for our honeymoon and it exceeded our expectations. Upon check in they gave us an upgrade to a suite for a small charge and it turned out to be an amazing room with a balcony. A few things to do before you stay here, rent a hybrid if you plan to have a car. Parking is free with a hybrid and available at John Wayne Enterprise. We upgraded to a hybrid after landing in the OC and only had to pay $15 more a day which was less than parking. Also budget to have room service for breakfast, it was delicious and a nice treat. Last, sign up for the Fairmont's President Club before you go so you can have free internet in your room. The only con I have is that the room doors close very loudly, even if you try to close it quietly, it is still very loud and I was woken up many nights due to this. But also found it easy to fall back to sleep in the comfy bed and with the black out shades!

I stayed (2) nights and it was awful. The air conditioning kept turning on/off, so the room did not stay cool at all. It also smelled like cigarettes in a non-smoking room. The location was bad. The only means of transportation was a taxi or the hotel's shuttle. The shuttle did not leave the hotel often, so if you missed it, you were out of luck and had to ask for a taxi, which meant that you were going to have to shell out money. I spent over $60.00 (roundtrip)to the closest restaurant on the harbor. I felt stranded at the Fairmont Newport Beach Hotel. I will not recommend this hotel anyone and I will never stay there again. It does not live up to its name. The only thing that I can say is that the staff was pleasant and very professional.
