"Great little hotel on quiet street"
This was a great little hotel on a quiet street just a few blocks from all the downtown action. Lots of shopping, museums, and restaurants within walking distance. And a suite, too!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel chosen as results from Xpedia ratings"
For $2xx per night, pretty good reviews on Xpedia and Tripadvisor, we were expecting a much different and better place. Hotel is located at northern edge of downtown, building has been here for decades, overall condition is good and it's been properly maintained, but it's still old, a little musky smelling, some windows don't work and everything is […] a 1/2 floor off. Plus the biggest detraction is that is located directly across the street from Alaska Railroad train station and they're horns are REALLY loud late at night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable, basic hotel."
The hotel was clean and had all that one would want in the way of room facilities - huge sized rooms, great windows, more than adequate furniture, kitchenette, TV, phone and comfortable bed, but in dire need of new sofa and chairs. These were old and greasy looking. It was great to be able to open windows for fresh air, but unfortunate about the noise […] from hooting trains. The room and bathroom were super clean - excellent! Close to other hotels for restaurants. I would recommend. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It’s clean and neat. It’s walkable in downtown to everywhere. One block to train station that may be too close so you can hear trains come and go during the early morning and late evening. Breakfast is basic and simple but you can walk to restaurants nearby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location and convenience"
This older hotel is very well keep and the suites were like small apartments. The staff was excellent and the location is great forgetting around downtown Anchorage on foot. There is a lot of noise especially if in a room facing the street. The trains coming and going aren't as bad as the traffic passing in front of the building on the way to the train […] station. This was especially bad when the windows needed to be open during warm nights. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"near sheep creek and anchorage railroad depot"
We stayed in this hotel totally 5 nights in our 18 days tour in Alaska from June 25 to June13 2013. The train siren from railroad depot did not bother us .It starts after 5:30 Am . We walked along the sheep creek almost every morning if we back to Anchorage . Many local people were fishing there .One morning we saw one man got a 45 pounds salmon; He […] let me hold it .What an experience. their breakfast: the juice , bagel /muffin and crème cheese is very convenience as a snack when we went to Denali national park , there were fresh apples and candies all the time in the office .The staffs were Okay .the facilities is okay . We will stay again in this hotel if we visit Anchorage again ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good Hotel by the RailRoad"
We picked this hotel for its location next to the Alaska Railroad Anchorage station so that after we finished our 8 hour train trip from Denali we could walk up to our hotel with our rolling luggage. This worked out OK. The hotel was comfortable, clean and the people friendly. The soundproofing is merely OK so the sounds of the RR and Elmendorf AFB […] can be heard. They did not bother us at all, but a light sleeper or a baby might not be as happy. The suite we stayed in had a small kitchen. A complementary continental breakfast (with microwaveable Kashi hot instant oatmeal) was included and delivered to our room by 7am. The Anchorage Grand Hotel was the right choice for us on our last night in Alaska. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel close to airport and train station."
We were looking for a nice hotel close to the train station as we were leaving early the next morning by train. Usually I want a room with air conditioning as I am always warm but the windows were open and there was a cool fresh breeze. The bed was extremely comfortable!! My only complaint was no easy access for luggage. had to go in and get a cart […] then wheel it around side of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, good accommodations"
Accommodations were in a great location near the train station, and close enough to town. I thought it was strange that the check in desk was down a flight of stairs so you had to drag your luggage down the stairs to get to an elevator.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel close to train station and downtown"
Stayed here two nights; July17th-July19th. Overall I was pleased. The best part of the hotel is the kitchen in the room; stovetop, full refrigerator, toaster, sink, etc... The bedroom is also a separate room w/ a door, so it kinda feels like a small apartment. The living room is small but comfortable. If your a fan of sitting around and watching TV […] you will be disappointed as the TV's in both the living room and the bedroom are tiny. I thought the being so close to the train station would be annoying as the train horns are pretty loud, but either the trains don't run between 10pm-6am or I slept through the arrival/departure of trains. Either way, the train station wasn't an issue. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We arrived from San Francisco the day a Korean Airlines crashed at San Francisco Airport. We weren't sure from one minute to the next if we'd be able to fly out. Finally left 1 hour after our schedukled time but arrived in Anchorage at around midnight. Check in was smooth and fast and we were able to get some sleep before the morning departure of the […] train to Talkeetna. We enjoyed the room. Had great view of trains coming in. This used to be nice apartment building years ago.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had nIce 1 bedroom apt. Everything was great except for the couch. It is outdated and uncomfortable. The location is excellent. Short walk to downtown. Weekend market is 1/2 block. Alaskarailrod right below. Had a nice view. We were pleased with our choiceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great stay downtown"
Hotel was close to everything tourist-y, walking distance to anything downtown. Great staff, very comfortable beds, breakfast delivered to the room. We had a full kitchen and large living space, so we could do our own food, and had tons of room to relax if we needed a midday rest! The hotel is very close to the coast and train line, which went 24 hrs. […] This was the only real problems that got in the way of total comfort. Overall good for the price! "Great hotel in good location"
This suite-style hotel was two blocks off the main drag, so it was convenient to the tourist area. Our room faced the train station, but the train whistles never bothered us due to the excellent windows. It was fun to watch the cruise ship buses pulling in and out. If we are ever in Anchorage again, this will be our hotel of choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location to the railroad station"
The hotel staff was very attentive and friendly. We were able to walk directly to the railroad station the next morning at 5:00 AM within 3 minutes ( no need for a taxi). The hotel is older but very clean. My room had a kitchenette which would have been great if we were staying for an extended timeGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Close to the Alaska railroad station, which is very convinience if you are going to take a train. Very kind and helpful staff.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Located in great tourist friendly neighborhood"
The hotel is beautiful; looks like a 1950's hotel that's been completely remodeled, but still has the charm of that era. The down side of it is right next to the railroad yard and you can hear the trains at various times of the day and night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not your average hotel room"
I enjoyed the "one bedroom apartment" feel instead of a simple room with a bed. It was great having a mini kitchen and a separate bedroom. Didn't care for the $5 charge to use the internet to print a boarding pass etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
"anchorage grand hotel"
near the trainstation, friendly staff, not luxurious. A few blockd to the center of town and restaurants. Reasonably pricedGenuine Expedia guest review
"Just over the hill from downtown"
Nice small place, a few blocks from downtown. Easy walk unless it's really snowing. Quiet place except for the trains on the N. side that insist on blowing their horns even in the middle of the night. Close to the brewhouse and Snow Goose brewery. Continental breakfast is a bag of store-bought stuff - give it a pass. Rooms are big and beds are very […] comfortable, but bathrooms are very small with no counterspace. "Steps away from train station"
It was a large and comfortable room with a kitchen and sitting area. Much more spacious than I expected. The furnishings were practical, nothing lavish, but comfortable. It is the hotel closest to the train station and they help travellers get off for the early train.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Go with the Westmark"
I think this hotel is mainly for big families, or for people who are going to be staying in Anchorage for longer periods of time, and will therefore need a kitchen. The wifi is WEAK, their breakfast is SPARSE, and the have no other real amenities (i.e. there's no hotel bar, there's no coffee in the lobby, there's no fitness center, there's no hot-tub, […] etc). "convenient to train depot"
the location is the best. you can walk down the ramp to the train depot or just a few blocks to the coastal trail or downtown. the neighbourhood looked clean and safe. we had a suite with a nice living room and a kitchenette which would be convenient if you plan on staying a few nights and like to cook something simple or just warm up leftovers. The […] continental breakfast include a bowl of instant oatmeal, a granolar bar, and a box of apple juice, all organic and healthy, delivered to your room. "Very comfortable place to stay!"
The room we had was very comfortable and quite large - included a mini kitchen. Very comfortable bed. I think we got a great deal through the internet because we paid a lot less than their standard discount rate (AARP). Only drawback is you can hear the trains coming through. It's within walking distance to many things in Anchorage. If we can get […] as good a deal, we would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to the Alaskan Railroad"
The room was very spacious and well furnished. The location being close to the R.R. was excellent, since we were traveling by train to Seward the next morning. We did have to leave the windows open and use the fan provided to cool the room, so that we were able to rest at night. Since the room was rather warm when we arrived is was somewhat uncomfortable […] for quite a while. We would have preferred air-conditioning especially since it was late July. The biggest problem was the noise from the train whistle during the night since we had to leave the windows open. This did effect our being able to rest the night that we were there. "Great hotel for the price"
This hotel was the best find we had in Alaska. It was a four room suite with a living room, kitchen (complete with dishwasher), bedroom and full bath. Each morning they would leave a continental breakfast at your door that you could prepare in your own kitchen. We got oatmeal, bagels, juice, and granola bars. Coffee and tea were already in the room. […] Each afternoon you could go to the front desk and get warm cookies. It's within an easy walking distance to downtown and the parking is included in the room fee. It doesn't look like the finest hotel but I would stay there again and again. "all blocks are very short in Anchorage"
It was a lovely hotel, very close to all downtown activities, personable and helpful front desk. 6 blocks takes about 4 minutes to walk. Directed us to the Snow City Cafe for breakfast (a must eat here place)- Thanks for making our stay in Anchorage nice. Close to the big walking trail.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Anchorage Stay"
We arrived before check in, but hotel was glad to keep our luggage until we returned to check in. When we returned our luggage was already in our room. A young lady named Georgia was more than helpful to us. Every requested we made to her was immediately full filled.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very noisy! Next to railroad. Whistles all night. Thermostat did not control room temperature. Our t-stat was in the off position but the heat never shut off. Will not stay there againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs total renovation"
Terribly outdated hotel in a bad location with the worst continental breakfast we have ever had. Much better to stay at the Historic Anchorage Hotel, for the same $'s, this is a beautiful hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff could not be bothered to help in anyway. The noise from the train stashion was just a bit to loud. Had to ask for our room to be serviced and to get clean towels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Handy for station"
I booked one night at Anchorage Grand because I was taking an earlyish train to Denali the next day and the hotel is about two minutes walk away. The name 'Grand' is a little misleading as this is somewhat dated and plain looking hotel. The welcome was friendly however and the apartment size suite (kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom) was spacious […] and clean. The bed was really comfy and all the windows actually opened - always good ness in a hotel. The downtown shops, bars and restaurants are within five minutes walk and a simple breakfast of porridge and bagel is left hanging on your door along with a complimentary newspaper. A great value stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spacious and clean, station and markets nearby!"
We liked this place, yes, it was near the railway station but so is the Hilton and the cost of staying there would be far more expensive to listen to the same sounds. If you are planning on going on a train trip and want somewhere to stay close by, this is the place. Fresh cookies on arrival and the staff were very helpful at all times. Apartments were […] a little dated but spacious, comfortable, clean with great views from the windows. Well equiped kitchen but no dishwashing liquid so you will have to supply your own. TV's don't have fox but we were never in our room to watch TV, only a little time before bed. Very convenient to the Anchorage markets on Saturday and Sunday, we could actually look at them from our window. Short walk to town, and small grocery store 3 blocks away but it only opens at 10am on Saturdays. In fact not much opens before 10am in Anchorage, very relaxed place compared to other cities. Parking was also easy, out front spot to drop off bags, then free parking lot next door. All you need is a ticket everyday from the reception. Can't really fault this place, and we have stayed at many others. Its all you need when exploring Anchorage. Double curtains also to block out the long summer daylight hours. Plenty of storage also. Free wifi which worked well. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Noisiest place ever"
This hotel was very clean and the room was very spacious with couches and a small table and chairs as well as a kitchen. These were the only good points. The staff member on reception was abrupt and unwelcoming, spoke with a strong German accent and asked me what I wanted when I walked in . I was given no password for the free wifi and no details about […] breakfast. When I asked I was told all details were in the room which they weren't. I had to ring reception and ask for details and no apology was given. We hired a car the next day and I called in to reception only to find the lobby was locked and no one was available. Finally the office was reopened and we were able to get free parking in a lot next to the hotel. The station is nearby and the freight trains sound their horns all night and all day!
