"Close to the Airport"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 26, 2013
It was a pleasant, clean and modern place to stay before we left Italy the next morning. The free shuttle service to the airport was a nice perk. The evening reception desk person was very friendly and also gave us great advise of a good place to eat in the area.

All in all a great little B&B. Only small annoyances location on main street a bit loud, internet when it did work: it was very slow. Housekeeping only available before 12pm. So if you are not out of your room by then you won't have toilet paper, fresh towels etc. Good perks free snacks and and drinks.
The hotel was in the most amazing location, right in the heart of anything you want. My complaint however, is there was no air conditioner or fan. It was in the mid 80's outside so the room was extremely hot. There also was no shower head. It was a hand held nozzle. Basically had to sit in the tub and spray off. Besides that, all was great! "AMAZING Experience!!!"
The location of the Atlante Star could not have been more perfect!! It was right down the street from the main entrance to the Vatican Museum and Vatican City and many shops and cafes were within a less than 5 minute walk. We decided to do the Hop On/Hop Off bus tour and a pickup location was also within a short walk, so we were easily able to see all […] of the wonderful attractions Rome has to offer. The hotel is very nice and beautiful and had a very charming feel to it! The room was quite small, but not unexpected for an ancient city. And really, who goes to Rome to stay in the room anyway? Our checkout time was before we needed to leave for the airport, so the staff offered to hold our luggage in a front room while we did some last minute exploration of the city. I felt that the staff were a little stuffy, but no more than is to be expected from a 4 star hotel. We used the free airport pickup and paid for the drop off, which was very worthwhile to not have to navigate public transportation with luggage; however, the driving was quite scary. This was not just Rome driving, these were the drivers in particular, so be prepared for a wild ride. The rooftop restaurant, Les Etoils, was pricey but AMAZING!!! The food was unbelievably fantastic and worth every euro! Other reviews had warned of extra charges upon checkout, but the charges are just Rome taxes (which amounted to only 6 euro/night) and the cost of anything that was purchased from the mini bar. "Magical and breathtaking View, can't wait to go back!!!"
Celebrating my son's 20th birthday in Rome was trully an amazing vacation! Staying at the Atlante Star Hotel was perfect! Our room with it's amazing view of the Vatican was trully breathtaking. Our beds looked directly out at the Vatican and to see it first thing in the morning and then at nite when it's all lite up was BEAUTIFUL AND MAGICAL! The views […] from the resturant were incredible and so was the breakfast, very delicous. All the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. I definitely plan to stay at this hotel again, and as my husband is an Airline Captain we've told our friends and co workers about this beautiful hotel, I just hope we can get a booking when the time comes with all the people we've been recommending this hotel to. It's in the perfect location to be able to walk to all the main tourist spots, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby with great food and very affordable. Enjoy your vacation in Rome! "Atlante Star Hotel - close to Vatican"
Nice four star hotel. Within 10 minute walk to Vatican but not in the high tourist area. Situated in a very safe neighborhood with excellent sidewalk restaurants within 3 blocks. Top shopping road three blocks away and safe area. Hotel is re-doing their rooms. we stayed in both the old and newly renovated. Both were comfortable. The older was darker […] and the newer were brighter with a modern art deco style(?). Standard size European hotel rooms. Breakfast view of Vatican breathtaking and beautiful. Breakfast is just OK. "Hotel Atlante Star - Rome"
We're a family of four (2 adults and 2 children ages 7 and 11). As others have mentioned, the roof garden was closed during our stay even though it was featured prominently in the hotel's advertising. The top floor restaurant, however, is beautiful and has a gorgeous view of the Vatican dome. The hotel is nice, close enough to the metro stops to get […] around and very close to the Vatican. We had a "family room" which actually had a separate bedroom and two small cots for the children separated by only about two feet and right next to the bathroom door. WiFi only works down in the lobby and internet access costs 10 Euros/8 hours. Their are nice shops and restaurants just one street over towards the Vatican, Make sure you buy tickets to the Vatican museum online at least the night before you go, it will save you a long line. "Great Location!"
The hotel is within walking distance to the Vatican City, the hop on hop off buses, metro, and the square where you can board a bus to your desired destination. The airport pick up was complimentary which was a huge plus!!! They were not able to accommodate us in the main hotel because of plumbing problems and noisy guests as the receptionist had claimed […] and instead, we were housed in this very quaint apartment type place next door complete with a living room. Because of this, we were offered free breakfast during our entire stay in the hotel's Les Etoiles resto which has a superlative view!!! The room was small and the aircon which looks like brand new to me was making annoying noises. The small, antiquated TV was not working (we didn't complain cause we didn't mind at all). The bathroom is spacious, new, and is always kept clean but it could use a new shower curtain. The mount for the shower head was also not working. There is a grocery store behind the hotel and a bakery just next door. It is also close to restaurants that are just a block away. The receptionists are always nice and accommodating! Over all, I would still highly recommend this hotel despite of those glitches aforementioned! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Pretty Good"
Pros: The room sizes were bigger than expected which is always nice when going through major European cities, the front lobby was comfortable, the location was fantastic and close to major Roman sites, the airport shuttle a nice plus.Cons: Smelled smoky (but it's Italy, so everything smells smoky), the staff was a bit aloof, the hotel nickel & dimes […] you for things like internet and local phone calls, you couldn't take a shower without getting water all over the bathroom. "Great Value"
While the room was small (there was no seating besides the bed), the bathroom was very spacious and the room was very clean. I misread the hotel description and thought that every room would have a view of the Vatican, which we did not. But we had a small terrace that overlooked an alleyway between buildings. I have seen other reviews that said this […] alleyway was filthy, but I thought it was very quaint, and it was nice to sit out there after a long day of sightseeing, enjoy a glass of wine, and read through the guidebooks to decide on a restaurant for dinner. I was also concerned that this location on the other side of the river would not be convenient for other attractions besides the Vatican, but the metro stop was very close, and we actually walked to most places. The airport pickup was very convenient. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Everything is expensive in Europe in general so for the price it's good. Small rooms, not so fond of the shower head location. Atlante Hotel was very convenient for us especially since we didnt rent a car in Rome. Everything was accessible near the area (eateries, metro, the Vatican). The hotel crew was very nice, and accomodating, though I wish our suite was a bit bigger, the room overall was decent. I was a bit discouraged when we checked out cause we owed the hotel 70 euros […] for making calls out of our hotel, eventhough it was in Rome. "cheap but great locale"
This little hotel is great for folks wanting an inexpensive place to stay in a great location who aren't to expecting many hotel amenities.....no bellhop, a minimal continental breakfast not included in price, no new towels, no key cards (they use actual keys they ask you to turn in each time you leave as they have no replacements). The room was very […] small but clean, comfortable and air conditioned (we stayed there in August). The bathroom ceiling was moldy likely due to lack of fan and the shower curtain was old and a poor fit so it didn't keep the shower water in the tub and water flooded daily onto the bathroom floor. There was plenty of hot water and the staff were very responsive to any requests, the front desk was open 24 hours and English spoken by most. The hotel restaurant was open daily for continental breakfast (i would rate as average) but was closed for dinner 2 of the nights we were there. The hotel overall was desperately in need of updating ie some outlets didn't work, carpets were old, color schemes were outdated, etc. Would not give it the 3 star rating that expedia gave it but would recommend it for what it is, a cheap convenient place 5 minutes from the Vatican! Overall Rome was a bigger city experience. Small rooms, busy metro area. Walking distance to many touristy restaurants with luring waiters flaffing you in like a $5/hr NY parking flag man. I felt this part of Rome was disappointing because of the seedy vendors and hustler style atmosphere of Cafe's, Shops, and street vendors. I Love Rome Italy public […] relations executives need to clean up the city, the streets, the graffiti, and attitutude of the Roman business people. The breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious, fresh, and well-maintained. The wait staff was extremely accomodating. The front desk staff assisted us in finding the attractions of the city. They also helped us arrange for transport to the airport through the hotel's van service, which is incredibly convenient. The kindness and genuine warmth of the […] staff surrounded us, from the housekeepers, to the waitstaff, to the front desk personnel, to the airport transport driver. The location is fabulous, as it is just a few blocks from the Vatican, Castel St. Angelo, and the Tiber River. "Good Hotel - Some advertising is misleading though"
We stayed 3 nights in this hotel about one week ago. The hotel itself is in a very convient location. About a 5 minute walk to Vatican City. Our room was very comfortable. The wall decorations take a little getting used to but the room was clean and comfortable. We were woken up several times by construction noise (which we thought was next door), There […] are some things that I would like to note about the hotel though. First off we chose this hotel for the rooftop garden. I think the garden is the main appeal of this hotel. We could have paid less for a hotel if we did not want access to the garden at night. My mother and I jumped in the lift and chose the rooftop garden button and it would not stay lit up. So we went down to the front desk and asked about it and they informed us that it is not open and will not be open the whole time we were there. This would explain the construction noise that we heard all day long. We were upset and they did not have it advertised anywhere in the hotel or on the website. We also chose this hotel for the airport shutttle. They offer a free shuttle from the airport and $40 a couple to the airport which is a good deal compared to cabs. We had to leave the hotel by 6:00am so when we went down to schedule the shuttle they informed us they do not start running til 7 or 8. This is something else I think they should also advertise. Lastly, when I booked the hotel free WIFI was advertised. Internet does cost money, but its not too much. But if you do not bring a laptop it is way more expensive to use their computer. Overall our stay was good. We did not eat at the hotel. 15 euro a person was too expensive for breakfast when you can walk right down the street and eat at a little cafe for way less. Room was good but as for all the extras I was not so impressed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best view of the Vatican"
We loved the Atlante Star hotel. The views of the Vatican were breathtaking. The staff was very accomodating and friendly. The front desk answered all of our questions and ordered taxis for us when we needed them. Our room was very elegent and privately situated with a balconey decorated with beautiful flowers. The breakfast buffet was delicious, especially […] the donuts and the cheeses and meats and an amazing selection of cut up fresh fruits. The surrounding neighborhood was great because it was not touristy at all. It was an upscale neighborhood with wonderful cafes and bars within walking distance. We especially liked the cafe right next door to the hotel and the bakery there as well, which had amazing breakfast pizzas that you buy by weight. A little grocery store was within walking distance where you could buy wine for cheap. And the Vatican was also within walking distance. The location of Atlante Star was perfect if you wanted to mingle with the local people. I highly recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"I wonder how this hotel got 4 star!!??"
I liked the availability of a free shuttle to pick us up from airport even I've arranged that with the hotel a week before the flight, the driver arrived almost an hour late .when we arrived at the hotel the receptionist was very kind ,professional and check in process was fast but oops he checked us in a wrong room different than our original reservation […] and we had to go back in the lobby and wait another hour for our room. second day.....AC did not work...called the front desk and the maintenance guys appeared in minutes and started fixing it...I had to leave for a tour in Rome when I came back i asked if the AC was fixed and he assured me that everything is perfect but surprising the AC still not working I called the front desk and he said OK they will try again tomorrow.!! @ internet connection..it's not free and expensive WI-FI only in the lobby cable in the room ,they charged me 5 euros for an hour but both did not work.I complained that both cable and wi-fi did not work. all they said they are trying to fix it and if i need to use internet i can use the lobby computer and there is another charge for it...and they never refunded the first charge which i never used and when i asked for it the receptionist told me i have to see the manager for that the following morning I was checking out any way that morning...another thing only 2 receptionists out of three speaks English and nobody else in the restaurant or the porter or the driver speaks English.!! "Great Location, but overpriced and watch out!!"
Hotel was acceptable for Roman standards, rooms were small (as expected in Rome) but rooms/hallways were musty. We had 2 rooms, asked for a "nice view" which consisted of a FILTHY courtyard with laundry hanging from every railing, people screaming at each other at all hours of the day & night & the other room had a lovely view of dumpsters. The staff […] was friendly enough. One of the rooms had a broken shower that was never fixed (for 6 nights), Rootop resturant was constantly booked for private parties & Rooftop Terrace/Garden was closed "Indefinately for Repairs" which was EXTREMELY upsetting since this was the primary reason we selected this hotel in the first place. Location in the Borga is great & very close to the Vatican, Passetto, many cafe's & shops, even within walking to Metro (Ottaviano), Piazza Navona/Pantheon/Trevi Fountain. Also unbeknownst & unrequested by us, our rooms were "upgraded" to Deluxe & we were hit with a HUGE charge (think rountrip airfare) at checkout which we were not expecting & despite our protests, our luggage was held captive & threatened with police action until we paid it! Shuttle back to airport does not start until 7am, & since most flights out of Rome leave at 8am, you will have to opt for a more expensive taxi. Breakfast very overpriced. Get it next door! On a positive note, the lounge (especially bartender) was extremely generous with drinks & very nice. Overall, VERY overpriced for my taste even if the amenities were actually AVAILABLE! "Excellent location, disappointing otherwise"
I wasverydisappointed with the size of the room which was somewhat cramped. The bathroom and fixtures and fittings were, I felt, a little tired and not quite up to 4-star standard. There were no tea/coffe making facilities which even the cheapest B&B and hotels usually provide. However after a couple of days there (we stayed six nights), I began to […] appreciate some of the advantages of this hotel (mainly to do with location). The staff were, on the whole, very nice and efficient apart from one rather abrupt/rude young man who was at the reception desk a few times. The cleaning lady was very efficient and really lovely. The one, easily remediable, thing I would suggest to the hotel's management is to provide a better shower curtain as, however hard one tries, the bathroom ends up flooded in water and I nearly tripped once or twice! It's a shame because this could be a really lovely hotel but it has obviously been neglected for some time now. I'm not really sure I would recommend it to a friend... "Good location, average room for the price."
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from 6th November and were overall quite pleased. It is located on a fairly quiet street and is only 5/10mins walk to the Vatican city. The room was fairly small however this didnt really bother us as we were out all day and used the room to sleep! However, we weren't impressed with the view from our window […] as it seemed to be back the back of the hotel fancy a series of other windows and below looked like a sort of dumping ground for hotel rubbish. I think the air conditioning wasn't working properly either as only warm air seemed to be being blown out. Breakfast was served every morning and they had a decent selection. The view from the restaurant was lovely as it was over looking St Peters. Would I recommend this hotel to others? "Good location but make sure you check their towels"
This is our honeymoon trip, they upgraded us from the standard room to the junior suite. Hotel condition was alright, the room was newly renovated with hardwood floor. Cleanliness was only average - the bed was clean, but anything else was dusty with stain. They don't have a safe in the room, but they said they have it at their front desk which we don't […] trust. We were disappointed that they weren't on top of it when it comes to refilling shampoo, soap and kleenex. We had to ask for it everytime they ran out. We also checked our towels everyday as some of them have stains on and did not look clean. Their roof top breakfast restaurant had such a great view. Food variety wise, there were only hard boiled eggs, bread and cold cut (we heard that's the standard in Italy, but we had a great buffet breakfast at our Venice hotel, so we were probably spoiled by the first hotel of our Italy trip). Location wise, it's 5-minute walk to The Vatican. There is a hop-on-hop-off bus station right next to St Peter's Basilica, so it's really convenience to get around to all the sight-seeing sites. Taxi ride from train station to the hotel is about $13. And Taxi ride from hotel to airport is standard $48; however, the hotel does offer shuttle service for $20 per person. Airport pick up was very helpful. Check in time was 12pm, we arrived an hour early but got checked in swiftly. Loved the room and the view is amazing. A little on the small size which may be of concern to some, but we were not fussed about it. Room was cleaned daily and towels&beddings were changed everyday. Air con in the room helped due to the heat. […] A little noisy as right next to the street but all the walking meant a good nights sleep regardless. Reception staff were super helpful. They charged our phones and cameras every night as we had not brought a converter with us (Italy has a straight line socket compared to U.Ks triangular shaped ones). They were always very helpful and polite. The hotel is situated in a great location, lots of restaurants and souvenir shops a mere 2 minute walk away. St Peter's Square and the Vatican museum are 5-10 minute walk away. We pretty much walked everywhere even to the colosseum. Metro use is very simple and very cheap which we used to get back in the evenings. Its about a 5-10 minute walk back from the metro to the hotel but along the way there are lots of shops & also a market. Tram is closer but we couldnt quite figure it out. Minor complaints would be phone bill was expensive and the bedside table was a little dusty on arrival. However this could be due to us arriving early. We booked their airport service for the trip back to the airport. Very convenient. Overall a lovely stay at the Hotel Atlante. Highly recommended. "Great hotel for exploring Rome and comfort!"
I am so glad we chose this hotel. From the friendly concierge to the cleaning staff, everyone was polite and welcoming. We were recommended a lovely restaurant for dinner, and we found reception staff eager to help whether it is calling a taxi or giving directions etc! Our room was big, light and comfortable - for me the only thing missing was tea/coffee […] making facilities in the room for that late night cup of tea. But apart from that I loved the room and the black out blinds were very effective. The hotel itself was minutes from the Vatican (very handy as we attended a weddding there!) and not far from the main sights to see in Rome. The restaurant/breakfast room had a fabulous view overlooking Rome, unfortunelty the roof top terrace wasn't open due to refurbishment but panaramic views at breakfast made up for that. "Nice hotel, conveniently placed."
From our point of view the en-suite bathroom needed an upgrade, particularly the shower arrangements. The shower was over the bath on the long wall rather than at either the head or the foot. Because the bath was narrow, this meant that it was difficult to have a satisfactory shower without becoming entangled in the shower curtain. The side of the bath […] was quite high which could be difficult for more elderly people to climb in and out. Also the taps made the mixing of hot and cold to a suitable temperature difficult. The upper shower fixing point was too high and the lower shower attachment was at elbow level, hence one banged one's elbow. The mirror over the washbasin was too far away which made shaving and applying make-up difficult. It would have been good to have a magnifying mirror with good lighting and it would have been nice to have a full length mirror in the bedroom. In general the bedroom was well serviced and extremely clean and comfortable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Our first holiday in Rome"
The location was good, close to vatican city and bus station ( accesible to whole city sightseeing quite easily in 10-20 minutes max). we stayed for 4 nights. This was our first trip to Rome and no knowledge of the city and unfortunately the hotel staff did not give us enough useful information. we got fined on the bus on the first day -100 Euro (tried […] to buy ticket when we got on, but no ticket machine or help from the driver). so we did our research from the net for information- do this before travelling! you can buy ticket from newspaper kiosk and some shops ( get a Roma pass) of course before getting on the bus!!! As for hotel, it is not a 4 star hotel but is reasonably clean and comfortable. In our room, toilet and bathroom was small and if you are a big person you will struggle. shuttle bus from airport was a bounes. the roof top resturant is open only 3 nights a week. we decide to go one night but it was closed. there are plenty resturants closeby though. Again I would suggest to get information about Rome, where to go and its regulation from the net (I googled it and it was very helpful to plan our days). I may suggest the hotel to my friends but will tell them about above problems. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
