I know it sounds crazy , but we always look forwards to visiting Inverness and staying at our favourite hotel - The Thistle . From the outside it looks like any other 70's concrete monolith , but once inside there is an honesty and a warmth that the staff at other " superior " hotels are simply unable to match .

It wasn't bad by any means, or great by any means either. Old building, and fire alarm went off in the middle of the night too.

Ideally located for local area and very easy access to main routes North & South. Overall a comfortable overnight stay. All staff were polite yet friendly & efficient. The Reception, the ground floor Foyer, Bar, Restaurant and Elevators are very well appointed. The outside of the building and the car park need some work (the latter had hugh, deep puddles but it was raining very heavily). The room was well laid out and clean but the bedroom furniture was showing it's age and somewhat tired.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times now. The staff are always exremely helpfull. I have enjoyed my styas there. The rooms are comfortable, though slightly on the small side. My only gripes would be the pirces of drinks in the bar, and the cost of breakfast. I feel that these are extremely over priced.

Reviewed by J of Edinburgh on Apr 6, 2009
Unfortunately the only nice thing about the hotel is the Pool & gym facilities. The rooms were very dated and very small with far too much furniture packed into them and therefore stacked in the corner of the room. Bathroom was clean and nice although the shower was crap and was more like a drip. Awful view of mouldy carpark. Room service was cold and sub-standard. And the same goes for the greasy cold breakfast unfortunately..... Staff were nice though.

I was blown away by how friendly the staff was. They were also more than helpful when it came down to getting information on all the tourist attractions. The room was also very comfortable. A great place to relax after a long day of hiking and exploring. It was also conveniently located to restaurants and shopping.

The price was OK and it was OK for what we paid. We were a little disappointed with how far away it was from the center of town - thought it was closer to town. Were a little disappointed with the age of the hotel - thought it was newer. Wasn't in bad condition, just older. Overall, we'd probably stay there again.

Hotel is niet te duur, en biedt goede waar voor je geld. Behulpzaam en vriendelijk baliepersoneel. De kamer was mooi en licht. Ontbijt was goed.
