The hotel was under going major renovations. The lobby was a disaster area so they couldn't provide their usual services (breakfast, computer room). The room was as fine, and due to it's location, I would have stayed there even if I had known about the construction, but they should have warned me.. and not everyone will have the same attitude.

we understand that hotel is being renovated BUT the "continental breakfast" was a joke! Our room was immaculate however the beds were toooo high for short older people to get into easily, the bathroom counter also too high BUT the toilet toooooooo close to the floor plus there were no safety bars for the tub/shower or stool . The room still smelled […] of fresh paint which was annoying but not nearly as bad as the smell emanating from the armoire. I had read reviews posted in early summer about renovations being underway. I would not stay here again unless I checked directly with the hotel to be sure Reno was complete. What a mess. The staff spoke of the Reno being held up because the city was dragging its feet on issuing permits. I am surprised that Wyndham would let them house guests with the […] hotel in this condition. They told us that the rooms on our floor were complete, but they were still a bit rough around the edges: hole in wall where pipe for shower head emerged, paint knocked off walls over headboard, finish worn off front of bath vanity. Wear and tear type things in a newly finished room? Edges of carpet taped down with masking tape where room meets hall--trip hazard. Old carpet with paint and stains in halls with wires and cables running along base of hall walls. One elevator broken and the other had problems. Sometimes the door would not close, appeared to be a door alignment issue that we could overcome by pushing on it. The lobby was in a total demo state. Breakfast was locked in a closet and would be given to you (in a lunch sack) if you asked. As I said, we were surprised that Wyndam was allowing them to operate. Our stay at the Wingate is a bit difficult to describe. We've stayed at a Wingate hotel before and the stay was fine. However, this hotel was in the midst of renovation. They were converting from a Hampton Inn to a Wingate and the entire hotel was a construction site.The lobby was metal studs, sheetrock, plastic dropclothes and all of it covered with […] sheetrock dust. The hallway to our room was about 50% renovated. Our room was all new, but 90% complete. No mirror in the bathroom, grout in the tub enclosure was incomplete and there was sheetrock dust in every corner and crevass. The only working ice machine was up two floors where every room was vacant, open, dark and being demo'ed. My wife came back the first night and said getting ice was a frightening experience and that she didn't want to go back up there alone. We were told at check-in that there was no breakfast service and we were told they were going to discount our room $10 per night for the inconvenience. Breakfast was a mile away at the IHOP and cost much more than $10 for two. Thank goodness we didn't bring the kids. I think Wingate made a huge mistake by openning this hotel to the public prematurely. It will be some time before I book another Wingate. I was reminded of the old Expedia TV ad where the couple looks out the balcony window of their resort hotel to find a cemetery. I think of our stay at the Wingate as a potential TV commercial. The weblink for the hotel indicates that it has been recently renovated. Recently renovated would indicate that they have finished the renovations. This place is deep in the middle of renovations. When we booked our hotel for the weekend, there was NOTHING that said anything about construction taking place. We arrived at the hotel and there construction going on everywhere we could see. There was no front desk. We asked about th breakfast we were told we would have and they said there would be breakfas bags with a water, fruit, muffin and breakfast […] bar. When we went to get it the next morning we weren't even given that. We are very on top of working out and there was no fitness room and no accomodations made to give us the opperunity to work out. We got to our room and it was very clean and modern. But you could tell it was just finished. There were still holes in the wall and dust on the carper. We didn't even have a bathroom mirror. The Saturday morning we were woken up at 8:15am because of construction taking place. The staff was rude and made it seem like we should be perfectly happy that we paid for a nice comfortable hotel and instead we recieved a hotel full of construction. The room was very nice. However, they are renovating the hotel which the entire 1st floor was with hanging plastic except for 4 chairs, table and TV. When trying to check in the staff person apparently was either on "break" on helping another guest but when she got back, she didn't apologize and it was a good 15 minute wait just till she got back. They were remodeling everything but the 4th floor. There was no coke machines on the 4th floor. By 8am the sounds of drills was deafening. They could have warned me before I got to the hotel. Very miserable stay. The bad part is the reason I was there was to see my kids I hadnt seen in 7 weeks.

When we arrived the hotel was only partially open as they were remodeling it from a Hampton to a Wingate. (An employee was sprawled out across the foyer sofa eating a box of Cheese Crackers when we were trying to check in.) If we had know we have plenty of other good options to choose from in Richardson. The business center and fitness center were closed, which we had need of during our stay. One of our three rooms had no air on and was missing light fixtures and missing the furniture that held the microwave and refrigerator. They did not have the bed skirts on the box springs as the rest of the rooms we were in. They told us that room had been used as a store room. We could only hope it was clean...We made the best of it. There was no info in our rooms about the tv stations, local restaurants and businesses. It was a disappointing experience and I feel I will not use Wyndham Hotels again at this point. I don't understand how they can continue to advertise the amenities that are not available. I will have less faith in the ads on y our web site and will contact the hotel myself in the future to see if they are what they portray online. Hotel staff was great; however, don't believe the hotels.com site. The pictures are of an LA Wyngate with double height ceilings. The architecture here is much different and smaller. There was a half full bottle of soda left in the fridge and the iron has hard water deposit in the steam holes that smudged white deposits all over the shirt I was ironing.
