"Comfortable Affordable SF hotel"
Hotel Vertigo was the only hotel I could find near Union Square or the Financial District that looked decent and didn't cost way north of $300. With tax, just over $300. It is an older building but clean and eclectically designed. Per the name, the James Stewart movie is playing in the lobby. The Cal King bed was comfortable, the room roomie and the […] bathroom nice. The carpet could have been better. The orange leather covered wing chair with VERTIGO embroidered vertically on the seat was unusual. The downside is the hotel doesn't have a restaurant or bar but the neighborhood has lots of options within a short walk. I ate at the Nob Hill Grille and loved it. I wish that the in-room television would have received more than 1 channel. Although they did have wireless available. Overall it was an "ok" stay and the location was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cool Boutique Room but DO NOT VALET"
Room and hotel was nice and quant but do not pay the extra $35 for Valet parking, it doesn't really exist. The clerk started moving cars on the street while I waited to parallel park my car, it took about 10 minutes and didn't fit in the end.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A fair price in downtown San Francisco."
Would highly recommend this hotel. Newly refurbished, clean, and well appointed. A treasure within the city by the bay!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Overnight in the city with friends."
The morning was pretty awful. Really loud vacuuming early in the morning, knocks on the door. No point in a noon check out since you want to leave because of the noise.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A decent experience"
The hotel was nice. It's about 6 blocks from union square. If you are looking to shop- there are much closer and nicer hotels to stay inGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice rooms at a discounted rate. Average service"
Found a discounted rate on hotels.com, the rooms seemed nice and the hotel is in a good central location for exploring sf. The service wasn't quite what I hoped, Not very friendly or pleased to help. I felt like I was annoying the front desk just to ask for a late check out and for their suggestions on a ride back to the airport.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Vertigo needs work in the Tender-Nob"
SF hotels this time of year are outrageous and almost non-existant. This hotel is fine for budget conscious European tourists, but not business travelers. Unfortunately, I picked wrong with this one. It was perfectly adequate, but I expected more. A lot more. I think the hotel is under new ownership/management so I hope they spend some money on upgrades […] and improvements. And the televison absolutely sucked! No channels at all, I was forced to stream the NCAA championship on my computer. Good luck improving your quality. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel downtown"
I enjoyed this quaint hotel that took me back to the sixties. So retro and cool. Great location. The bathroom and shower was awesome.Genuine Expedia guest review

Great hotel, expensive parking!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I didn't know what to expect based on the pictures, but had passed the hotel on Sutter in the past and figured I'd try it for a night when the price at my other hotel jumped up by $100 (must have been a heavy traffic week in SF). I was pleasantly surprised. Impressed by the organic products, extremely friendly and helpful staff and cleanliness/taste […] of the simple room. We have already booked a return stay in May! Second stay at this place on business. The TV options aren't great, there is no breakfast and figuring out the fancy shower took a while. Other than that everything is just fine. This is my go to place in SF.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
It was ok. My husband and I had an executive king room. We stayed 6 nights. It was a snug fit. There were only a few stations on the TV for the first few nights and then there were none. We understand that management knew about it but they were unable to correct the problem. We like to relax at the end of a long day by watching a program and we like […] watching the news in the morning, so this was a bummer. The hotel us convenient to Union Square, but be careful, it is also in the Tenderloin. It felt more Tenderloin than Nob Hill. Although there was always someone at the front desk, which is right next to the only elevator, I did not see them ever ask to see anyone's room key when they came in. It seemed like anyone could come in off the street and go upstairs no problem. We also had a problem with the valet. I was late to a meeting because the valet took one hour to bring my car. At the same time, the price point was good relative to what it can cost in San Francisco. The shower was hot and had good water pressure. The room was clean. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"There is no television service"
This hotel has had no TV for a year and they do not tell guests about this until they inquire as to why there is no TV service. They are in some kind of dispute with their cable/dish provider, and it has been ongoing for almost a year, the desk clerk confided in me. I stayed here for a number of days and a shower that spurted water all over the bathroom […] was never fixed. The hotel gives a discount to guests if they'd complain about no TV service, but this was not enough for me missing the Olympics. Also the toilets drain very slowly and require several flushes. "Very good except for some.."
The Vertigo hotel was very nice. I stayed in 2 double bedroom for 4 nights. It was clean, comfort and friendly staff. There were a little bit of inconveniences. There were some noises of next rooms because of thin walls and It took about 15 mins to Union Square.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great last minute deal in a great location!"
My fiancee and I last minute had to fly into SF a day earlier than expected and Hotel Vertigo provided us a great deal, even booking the day that we were staying there. The lobby was nicely decorated, and the room had some great touches. Generally I'm more of a large-chain hotel frequenter, but for a last minute deal, this was a great boutique experience. […] Also of note: we valet parked at the hotel and spent the following day walking around San Francisco. Even after checking out of the hotel, the front desk gladly held our luggage in a locked room and allowed us to keep our car with the valet until we were ready to leave later that day--and even when my fiancee lost our valet ticket, they made the extra effort to help us retrieve the car without any complaints. A very much appreciated extra touch! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Will be back!"
Very nice boutique hotel, cozy rooms, very clean and comfortable beds! The service was outstanding, staff very courteous and helpful. I had flowers delivered and the staff were only too happy to have it ready in the room when we checked in... The location was also very convenient, about 7 mins walk to Union Square. "Great hotel for the price"
I was supposed to move into my dorm, but they wouldn't let me stay because of some paperwork they goofed on. So I found this place, literally a minute away. It was super comfortable and less than 100$. They even gave me a toothbrush cause I forgot to pack one.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A fine San Francisco hotel"
Loved the lobby with its fresh white paint and statuary. Staff was very welcoming. The room was nice enough and the bed SO-O-O COMFY. We want to know where they got their pillows. Not much hanging space in the closet but who cares. The location was perfect for us, four easy blocks to Van Ness where our event was held, a great location generally. I loved […] looking down the stairwell and suddenly remembering the cheesy falling-to-death scenes in Vertigo, though I don't think any happened in that stairwell, don't remember. No matter. No one fell down the stairwell while we were there either. Good place, recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice location, but pretty much an average hotel"
They do have a Vertigo theme. The movie is playing in the lobby, the stairwell is vertigo-ey, and there's the vertigo logo on the chairs in the room. Apart from that, it's pretty average. TV gets 5 or 6 channels, the single elevator is kind of creaky and the parking dudes are slow/ sloppy (there is no parking at the hotel; you have to fork over $35 […] for valet service.) "Only good for overnight... Not all that.."
The Vertigo was good for our overnight stay. It was in a central location that was very easy to get around. The hotel decor was cute but seemed to be lacking slot if the allure from the pictures online... What happened to the beautiful decor? It was very minimal. The room was small but comfortable. One large disappointment was that there's no frige […] in the room?! Where does someone store their left overs? There is also one ice machine on the very bottom floor (lobby). What really stood out was the service. The staff when we checked in and checked out in the morning are very friendly and welcoming. A little more TLC, and this hotel would go from "ok" to great. "Great for the price"
This hotel has very cute, modern décor. The room was a bit small, but that's to be expected in the city. The bed was a murphy bed folded down from the wall so it was a bit uncomfortable and not very sturdy, but not too bad. Other than that, the bathrooms were very nice with newer, modern fixtures. The staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good value, responsive staff, quirky decor"
My wife and I stayed here overnight on Nov. 7, 2013. We booked the reservation through hotels.com and were not sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews both here and on yelp. Our experience turned out to be very good. We arrived too early to check in, but we were able to drop our bags at the hotel. Later, we had no problems with check-in and […] were given a room on the 7th floor. The room was spacious with nice-ish furniture, clean carpet, and a well-appointed bathroom. The only surprise was the bed -- it was a standard double bed, when we had booked a deluxe queen. I called the desk to report the discrepancy. The desk clerk said the place was fully booked, so he couldn't move us. We had already settled in at that point, so we weren't inclined to change rooms, anyway, so we didn't really mind. When we checked out, the manager apologized for the situation and graciously (without our asking) discounted our room the difference between what we reserved and what we got. We found the staff to be helpful, friendly, and efficient. They called a cab for us and it arrived in 5 minutes. They referred us to a pretty good place for breakfast. The neighborhood around the hotel is busy, with lots of shops, eateries, and other hotels. It's on the edge of Nob Hill a couple blocks from the Tenderloin. Some reviews here have called the neighborhood dodgy, but we never felt that way. The price of the room was pretty good by SF standards, and we'd likely stay here again. I was really excited about this hotel because of its connection to the film and its beautiful photos online. In reality, although the lobby loos nice, the hotel itself is quite sad and rundown. The front desk staff were mostly unpleasant (never greeting anyone with a hello, and responding with confusion and irritation at questions) and appearing unhappy […] to work there, and we had a room with a broken shower that was not fixed even after we complained. Add to that a room safe that did not work properly, moths in the room, and an unstocked coffee maker - it was a highly disappointing experience, and I would NEVER go back. "Nice place, convenient location"
For Lower Nob Hill, we enjoyed the location and the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall the hotel was okay. The neighborhood is iffy and loud in the morning. Staff was good ad helpful but the facility seemed a little run down. Looks better in the pictures than in reality and the elevator is 50/50 and slow. It can be trouble if you're on the 7th floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Don't stay here"
There are plenty of nicer hotels in San Francisco. The hotel basically tried to take a 90 year old building, paint it white, then put cheesy mid-2000's modern furniture with bright orange accents on everything. It looks and feels depressing. To top it off your located right next to a liquor shop and a lousy third right coffe shop called Han's. The only […] people this hotel is tricking are first timers to the city. I stayed there last weekend and my friend who lives there just laughed and goes "yeah that place is terrible, there's a reason it's always discounted." Stay anywhere but here and avoid the area. "A great little get away..."
i normally stay in more expensive and upscale hotels in SF but booked at the last minute and was only able to get in some place among all the chains. Vertigo was a very pleasant surprise, in a quiet neighborhood, but conveniently located a few blocks from Union Square. It was not particularly close to anything I was accessing, but in general isn't on […] the outskirts either. I will definitely try them again, especially if I book at the last minute.
