"a nice place"
A jive place a little more expensive then I would expect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The place was very cool. I loved the room decor and the staff were all very welcomingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for the price"
This hotel has very cute, modern décor. The room was a bit small, but that's to be expected in the city. The bed was a murphy bed folded down from the wall so it was a bit uncomfortable and not very sturdy, but not too bad. Other than that, the bathrooms were very nice with newer, modern fixtures. The staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
tub didn't drain during shower... or after... there was still standing water when i checked out 2 hrs after shower...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quite the Gem"
If you like history, with a touch of modern, then you will surely like staying here! We had such a great stay, the only down side was...it was to short. Beauty & comfort all in one!!! Along with a very informative staff!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value, responsive staff, quirky decor"
My wife and I stayed here overnight on Nov. 7, 2013. We booked the reservation through hotels.com and were not sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews both here and on yelp. Our experience turned out to be very good. We arrived too early to check in, but we were able to drop our bags at the hotel. Later, we had no problems with check-in and […] were given a room on the 7th floor. The room was spacious with nice-ish furniture, clean carpet, and a well-appointed bathroom. The only surprise was the bed -- it was a standard double bed, when we had booked a deluxe queen. I called the desk to report the discrepancy. The desk clerk said the place was fully booked, so he couldn't move us. We had already settled in at that point, so we weren't inclined to change rooms, anyway, so we didn't really mind. When we checked out, the manager apologized for the situation and graciously (without our asking) discounted our room the difference between what we reserved and what we got. We found the staff to be helpful, friendly, and efficient. They called a cab for us and it arrived in 5 minutes. They referred us to a pretty good place for breakfast. The neighborhood around the hotel is busy, with lots of shops, eateries, and other hotels. It's on the edge of Nob Hill a couple blocks from the Tenderloin. Some reviews here have called the neighborhood dodgy, but we never felt that way. The price of the room was pretty good by SF standards, and we'd likely stay here again. "Vertigo: not sure you should go"
No room service or food in this hotel. Sketchy area but walking distance to union square. Good size rooms, clean, modern/fun decor. You get what you pay for?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a place you want to consider"
We checked in around 1 pm Bed sheets has spots of things I won't explain. So called "fresh sheets " were brought in and guess what-stains again. Luckily, my wife brought bed sheets from home(just in case) We were very uncomfortable the whole time we used anything in the room. I have been traveling for the last 30 years, never came across anything like […] this before Filthy bed sheets ..wow In this day and internet age. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nike Marathon Stay"
The staff were friendly, fun, extremely accommodating and helpful. Excellent Union Square adjacent location. Room was large, modern and comfortable. Ask about the airport shuttle - it was worth it!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everyone was very nice...we had a wonderful time! All of the staff was happy and helpful. Looking like the the tourist in the hall one day...Carl was nice enough to help me out with directions and my husband and I had a wonderful day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was really excited about this hotel because of its connection to the film and its beautiful photos online. In reality, although the lobby loos nice, the hotel itself is quite sad and rundown. The front desk staff were mostly unpleasant (never greeting anyone with a hello, and responding with confusion and irritation at questions) and appearing unhappy […] to work there, and we had a room with a broken shower that was not fixed even after we complained. Add to that a room safe that did not work properly, moths in the room, and an unstocked coffee maker - it was a highly disappointing experience, and I would NEVER go back. "Nice place, convenient location"
For Lower Nob Hill, we enjoyed the location and the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall the hotel was okay. The neighborhood is iffy and loud in the morning. Staff was good ad helpful but the facility seemed a little run down. Looks better in the pictures than in reality and the elevator is 50/50 and slow. It can be trouble if you're on the 7th floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The toilet was weak to suction. No elevator for almost two days.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice place, good location"
Had a great time. Hotel is in a very central location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Awesome beds, decent location"
Beds are comfy. $35+ 15% tax = close to $40 per day to park. Only complaint, the hotel was good other than this.Genuine Expedia guest review
Slighly run down, but friendly staff, and clean rooms. Overall good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly staff, decent renovation"
The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. Bedding was fresh and of good quality. It's a really old building and so be prepared to hear your neighbors.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"modern Hotel near union square"
Great hotel, good location, 10 minutes to union square and on a safe street. Close to cable car stops at union square and the other direction takes you to a main. Bus route as well, to the Golden Gate Bridge etc. Very clean room with good quality bedding etc. No hotel bar but go to the Hotel Rex library bar on the same street towards Union st. great […] atmosphere there. Very friendly staff. Cool hip hotel. Had a great time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't stay here"
There are plenty of nicer hotels in San Francisco. The hotel basically tried to take a 90 year old building, paint it white, then put cheesy mid-2000's modern furniture with bright orange accents on everything. It looks and feels depressing. To top it off your located right next to a liquor shop and a lousy third right coffe shop called Han's. The only […] people this hotel is tricking are first timers to the city. I stayed there last weekend and my friend who lives there just laughed and goes "yeah that place is terrible, there's a reason it's always discounted." Stay anywhere but here and avoid the area. "A great little get away..."
i normally stay in more expensive and upscale hotels in SF but booked at the last minute and was only able to get in some place among all the chains. Vertigo was a very pleasant surprise, in a quiet neighborhood, but conveniently located a few blocks from Union Square. It was not particularly close to anything I was accessing, but in general isn't on […] the outskirts either. I will definitely try them again, especially if I book at the last minute. "I had an excellent stay in this hotel. I love it."
The staff was very courteous and polite. Staff offers help and assistance with a BIG SMILE. The HOTELS IS SUPER CLEAN AND NEAT. I like the Spanish Architecture. Apparently, this Hotel was the filming of "Vertigo".Genuine Expedia guest review
"Small hotel near Union Square"
This is a smallish hotel, artsy-bohemian decor. Clean. Great location for Union Square conventions, because it is a few blocks removed from the bustle, and slightly up Nob Hill, so a nicer street scene than Geary, Eddy etc. Free coffee in the morning, wine hour in the afternoon, small but nice gym.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very handy location. Near to centre but quiet. Go to Golden Coffee on the next corner for breakfastGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Comfortable and clean room. Extremely helpful staff. Christine and Christina went out of their way to help us.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"not what you expected"
We stay in San Francisco twice a year for work & pleasure. But this was one of the worst stays. The walls were so thin you could hear people walking, talking, and closing their doors. The windows were so bad you could feel a breeze all night long from them. The bath tub had chucks missing from it. It looks like this hotel has potential but they ran […] out of money. "Not ultra fancy but affordable & comfortable"
It was a bit noisy, especially with the person walking in the room above mine. My main complaint was the single, very slow elevator. Windows in my room didn't open and no a/c so I would worry about this room in the summer (401). Easy walk to Union Square and local places to eat. Not the nicest neighborhood area but better than other options.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's just OK overpriced"
The carpet was wet, NO AC and it was hot and the windows don't open. Bathroom very small. In prime location though but to expensive for what you get. Hotel looks old and run down with just cosmetic renovations making it look great in pictures.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great value in a great location!"
This hotel is a great value. It was convenient to everything without being in a touristy area. Staff was helpful. Rooms were nice and the beds very comfortable. The only negatives in my book are the thin walls, no feather pillows, and lack of room service. I generally stay in 5 star hotels so this was a bit of a departure for me. I was leery of taking […] the chance but the cost was unbeatable. I'm glad I took the chance because this was a nice hotel in a good area and lived up to its billing in the positive reviews. We arrived about an hour and a half before check in at 3 p.m. and were told that we could check in as soon as there was a room ready. We went out to lunch and came back at 2:45 but still could not check in. It was 3:25 before a room was ready and then I had to call back to the front dest to let them know that there was a huge wet blue stain on the bed's […] comforter that smelled like bleach. The hotel advertises two cordless phones in each room. What it doesn't say is that neither handset works. I had to talk on the speaker phone in order to call the front desk. Also the carpet going into the bathroom was soaking wet and remained wet the entire two days we stayed there. I reported it to the front desk along with the non working phone but nothing was done. The room was hot and there was no air conditioner only a ceiling fan and the windows were permanently sealed shut. There was only one electrical outlet in the bathroom and it did not work. I had to blow dry my hair in the bedroom without a mirror. The web site also advertises a refrigerator in every room. There was a cabinet that looked like a refrigerator but no real refrigerator. room was fine but kinda small. it was nicely decorated but did not seem like it was worth what i paid for one night. i had rented a room at a motel nearby for half the price and got the same quality room with free parking. there is almost no parking in this area unless you want to pay $3.50 an hr at the meters or $35 for valet at the hotel. front desk […] was not very knowledgeable about surrounding area. "Good service, location"
Cute, neat boutique hotel with a bit of history (it was in the Hitchcock film Vertigo). Centrally located between the Fisherman's Warf area and the city's major music venues. This was my second stay and the staff has always been friendly, helpful and courteous. Groceries and good coffee shop breakfast, lunch places nearby. I will stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review

""DIsoriented, Stay here''"
The elevator, the only elevator, was sometimes slow. But the stairway was quick. No cups in bathroom. The glass cups to be used in conjunction with the ice bucket were not replaced when used for drinking glasses in the bathroom, both were taken from the bathroom and not replaced. "Charming with a twist..."
Very cool hotel. The room was decorated well and included all the must haves. Fridge, safe, two cordless phones, iPod dock... great flat screen TV (although the reception and channel choices weren't great) The neighborhood is safe and filled with great coffee shops, bars and non-chain type restaurants. "Good, better, best"
The service was friendly and helpful. The room was comfy and nicely decorated, but a bit rough around the corners. Cell Phone coverage in rear of hotel is abysmal, I could not get a signal any where in my room. Worked fine in lobby. "Great, reasonable hotel in SF"
Great experience. The area starts to trail off a bit as you go away from Union Square into the Tenderloin but it's OK. The bed wasn't huge but linens and desk were nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
great! gregory and sean at the desk are very helpful. an added attraction is that Gregory sings along with the cd tapes and fills the lobby with cheer! The Christmas decorations in the hotel were beautiful!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Here on business for 4 nights. An older hotel but you wouldn't really know from the rooms, clean, good furniture, free WiFi. I enjoyed it. The location was convenient. The neighborhood was safe, but not as nice as Union Square since this is close to the Tenderloin district.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"comfortable and fun"
The room was comfortable, and nice to return to after a full day. The staff was helpful in dining option recommendations in the area, and in making connections with airport shuttles. The music in the lobby was fun! The only concerns were that the coffee maker had to be moved to plug in, and that there really wasn't a table at which to eat "take out."
