"Hotel Vertigo - convenient & Lovely!"
We spent Thanksgiving night here as we were in SF to spend the holiday with our son who's a student at Academy of Art. It's just around the corner from his apt & very convenient to the many of the AAU buildings. It's in the upper Tenderloin but we feel safe here(as compared to down a few blocks). The hotel has unique decor which we loved. The staff […] was very friendly. The petite rooms are very roomy.(No need for the larger room). Free WiFi was helpful as our son brought his computer over to show us some of his school work. Only a few blocks walk to Union Square and much less sidewalk traffic at this location. We will definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very stylish hotel, but iffy location"
Loved the hotel service; the concierge was great! Only downside is that the hotel is in a slightly iffy location...Genuine Expedia guest review
The lobby is way to stark and plain. No warmth to it whatsoever. Rooms ok, towels nice as were the robes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Solid Hotel"
Location was good. Rooms were small but sufficient. Beds, Showers, etc., were all high quality - since those are the only two things you'll really use the room for while in SF, I think its the most important part of the hotel. Service was friendly and helpful. Hotel overall was nothing special, a bit aged, tight corridors and elevators, though everything […] else was very good. Free wi-fi. Thank God. Daily parking rate is v. expensive - factor that in when considering the cost. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fabulous place to stay in San Francisco"
Hotel Vertigo in San Francisco was a wondeful place to stay. It's in a great location in the city, not to mention all that's on the street (a market, restaurants, a cool bar, etc). The gentlemen at the front desk were extremely nice and helpful, especially Sean. They took the time to explain the layout of the city, travel, activities, etc. They didn't […] talk longer than necessary - gave only the info that was needed to make it a great trip. They were always very happy to answer any questions we had. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spotless, and the room (and the hotel itself) was very stylish, but still very cozy and comfortable. Loved having a fridge in the room. The closet was huge. Nice flat screen TV and ipod dock for an alarm clock. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and I can't wait to go back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"It's a good hotel overall but little things......"
I was super excited when I arrive at The Vertigo b/c the interior is really unique and I've never been to a hotel like this. My room was pretty and again --- unique --- with unusal fixture. The one MAIN thing I had was my bathtub. Everything in the room looks nice and clean but the bathtub was VERY VERY run down. Paints fell off as the water flow. […] It was as if they ran out of money and decided to not maintain the bathtub. The staff doesn't look extremely welcoming but service was acceptable. DO NOT MAKE ANY CALL USING THE PHONE IN YOUR ROOM!! They charge for local 415 calls as well. It definitely was not obvious that I'd have to pay for every call and it doesn't quite make sense. The location was ok, but it's a bit of a walk from union square. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a gem!!"
This was my first trip to San Francisco and it was a quick stop for business, Hotel Vertigo was a beautiful gem to stay in. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and super accommodating. They were a great mix of professionalism and laid back charm. I loved it!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel!"
I chose this hotel mostly based on the price, the location and the fact that my husband wrote a report on the movie back in college. The desk staff are very friendly (Gregory is the best concierge we've ever had!). The renovated rooms are great (I've heard through other reviews that the traditional rooms are not as nice, so book a "Vertigo" room instead […] of a traditional room to get the renovated ones). The tub/shower is a little bit narrow, but it's doable. The rest of the bathroom is very nice and they even have cotton balls, bathrobes and a hairdryer for your use. The bed is a platform bed and it is pretty comfortable, but was a little too firm for our tastes. But, after wandering around SF all day, we still slept great. The mini-fridge came in very handy during our stay because we were able to get some juice and some breakfast items to have (they don't serve breakfast at the hotel, just coffee and tea in the lobby). The hotel is very quiet, which is a plus. The decor (at least in the renovated sections) is really cool. It was kind of fun to find the references to the film, and we even went to a few of the places in SF where they shot the movie (Legion of Honor, etc.). The hotel is very convenient to the Muni buses and only a few blocks walk away from the historic cable cars. The Powell Bart station is a little farther, but still doable if you are walking. The one complaint we had was that this is a little close to the Tenderloin area (an area that we were told to avoid) than we would have liked. We thought it was closer to Japantown than it was, and that was our fault for not reading the map properly. But, I think as long as you don't walk around the Tenderloin alone at night, you should be fine. If you are vegetarian, we highly recommend the Millennium Restaurant and Golden Era Vegetarian Restaurant which are only a few blocks away from the hotel. Room Tip: Make sure to book a Vertigo room, not traditional. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The Vertigo Hotel is an incredible bargain. Great design, comfort, and service and the element of film history makes it even more attractive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and Beautiful Hotel"
Fabulous customer service and I can tell you this hotel is a hidden jewel in downtown of SF. My hubby and I stayed 2 nights and I absolutely loved it. They assigned me a renovated room on 4th floor. Nice room size, comfortable bed and clean restroom. Most of all, it was a perfect place to access many places. Stay at Hotel Vertigo! You will love it!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Fabulous location and upscale look"
The hotel was incredibly nice, comfortable. The bathroom was huge for being an sf hotel. And the closet was huge! The only complaint I have is that our tv was fuzzy. Not sure when the last time I saw a fuzzy televisionGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Value"
It's perfect, especially for the price. We paid extra for the renovated room and everything was new, clean and hip: from the mattress to the shower to the bath products. The staff was friendly and helpful & there's a great breakfast place right across the street.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Adequate Hotel...Great Location"
The hotel is old, but maintained well enough. The location was great...neighborhood seemed safe and peaceful. Great little cafe across the street for breakfast!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Customer reviews are most accurate"
The hotel is advertised very well, but deceiving right away. No pictures do justice to what rooms actually look like. I was told there was two different styles of rooms. The upbeat room is what is shown on the site. The other "style" is just beds thrown into a room, no desk, a TV with bad reception, an unclean bathroom, and a sink. The free internet […] is slower than a dinosaur, and I would highly recommend staying at another hotel. This is not even worth the money you pay per night. Wake up calls are non-existent (even though they say they call). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Hotel but Front Desk needs to be better at customer service"
I chose this hotel because of location and the reviews. The place is nice, great location, Nob Hill and walking distance to almost everything. The hotel was the original location where the Alfred Hitchock movie was filmed which is interesting. The lobby is nicely decorated and they play the movie on loop. Things to note, there is no breakfast included […] just coffee in the lobby. That is okay beause there are plenty of places to eat in the area. I booked one of the traditional rooms, and while they are clean they are sort of dated looking and I wanted to change rooms. I asked numerous times to change, agreeing to pay the upgrade charge. The front desk told me the hotel was booked, even though on their reservation internet site it said there were rooms available. I was told by the front desk maybe I wanted to check their sister hotel. The next day I asked again and they hesitated to move me again stating it was full. I explained that there were rooms on-line and they said they had available rooms but had to leave them open for people checking in (that did not make sense). I kept checking and asking until finally the lady said "fine just give it to her." They ended up moving me after much negotiation and I do not understand why they could not do that the day before. The remodeled rooms are much nicer and worth the aggravation. I liked the hotel overall and will go back, and would recommend it to others. Also they are pet friendly which is nice. "Great Hotel- Not one Complaint!!!"
This was a great hotel for the price! The room was amazing, even a bathrob!!! The location was perfect for walking San Fran! Awesome spot for a weekend get-a-way!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Buyer Beware"
The hotel is wonderful. The location is great with bars and restaurants near by, and downtown walking distance away. If only the front desk were as pleasurable. In fact, one attendant there managed to ruin the entire experience. She was very unprofessional, with no knowledge of any customer service skills whatsoever. It's unfortunate that one employee […] managed to make this trip as unpleasantly not only to me, but to other patrons who were there during their stay. Besides that, highly recommend it for the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Half true"
I will admit the hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. But, it goes downhill from there. As far as I can tell and from what I was told, the hotel is in the process of being renovated. That means the lobby looks great and new. If you get stuck in an old room, it leaves quite a bit to be desired. It will look NOTHING like the pictures. As I apparently […] booked the same time as everyone else in the world, the hotel was full. I, traveling alone, got a very old looking room with 2 single beds. I contemplated going down to complain or ask about switching rooms until I heard the entire conversation of the girls in the room next to mine. Which also means the walls seemed pretty thin (to be completely honest, they were pretty loud) They had apparently already complained that their rooms were nothing like what is shown in the pictures and website but there was nothing that could be done. One of them was so upset that they argued about changing hotels for at least 10 minutes. I wasn't THAT upset about it, but I was only in town for one night. My only real issue is that if I wanted to sleep in a small, old room with a single bed, I would have booked a couple hotels down and saved myself $50 bucks a night. "Unexpected"
Nice hotel BUT make sure you are aware of whether you are getting a renovated room (as shown on hotel website) or unrenovated room (not nearly as nice). I was pretty upset with my original room but luckily the customer service is very good and they upgraded me to a nicer (but still unrenovated) room. It's a $30 charge to upgrade from an unrenovated […] room to a renovated room... I think it might be worth it in retrospect. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Will definitely stay there again"
Checking was really fast less than a minute. I thought the room was a good size. walking closet. It was very clean. I stayed there with my son and he loved it as well. I got a room facing the street. It was a bit loud at night but it was worth it. It really added to the whole San Francisco experience. The bed was very comfortable. There are great places […] to eat around the hotel - only walking distances (next door). I didn't have a problem with the location of the hotel. I thought it was just fine even at night. I would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"It is a good choice only if you get a remodeled room."
Location is good. There are tons of restaurants and a nice coffee shop on the corner. Somewhat far away from BART station, but I didn't mind, since walking is good for you. However, choose your way carefully, better ask for directions at the hotel lobby. The room was ugly. It was old. However, with Expedia discount, I was not paying a lot, so there […] is nothing really to complain. Towels were actually quite good, and it was the most enjoyable moment. Wall in this hotel are thin (this is true for every room), so any activity nearby will be heard by almost everyone around. It was quite annoying, since I was in town for business, and a good sleep was extremely valuable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"hotel vertigo SF"
Hotel Vertigo is a decently priced boutique hotel in downtown SF. The room was decent size and the bed was very comfortable. There were coffee shops and restaurants nearby. My only complaint with the hotel was the amount of time it took to get my car from the valet. 35 minutes wait almost made me miss my flight. "Hotel Vertigo, San Fransico, CA."
We loved this hotel, close to everything, four blocks from Union Square, eatery's everywhere of all types of food, close to cable cars, recommend the valet parking , no street parking, but you can walk everywhere, taxi to Golden Gate Park, though. I really liked the forties/early fifties feel and the lush beds!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Vertigo"
Hotel Vertigo is a nice, clean, moderately stylish boutique hotel about 6 blocks to the west of Union Square. The front desk personnel were extremely helpful, internet was free, the room was clean and moderately stylish. The price was god. The uphill walk from Moscone center (if you are attending a conference) is about as far as you would want to walk, […] but acceptable. There are quite a few cafes and restaurants within a few blocks and a syrprisingly complete market on the same block if you want snacks or drinks. It was a good stay for the price - I'd do it again. "Great rooms and friendly, helpful staff."
The rooms were gorgeous, just like in the pictures. The staff was very, very friendly. They mapped out routes for us to take to help us find where we were headed and gave us directions over the phone to find the hotel. They even showed us a nearby parking garage we could use that was cheaper than their valet. Even though we didn't request early check-in, […] we got into our room early. It was a really nice, very San Franciscan-looking hotel and I will likely stay there next time I'm in the area. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
