The hotel was out of the very centre of Wellington but it was clean and functional and comfortable for the one night we spent. The continental breakfast was ok but they don't serve evening meals there. No complaints.

I know I got a great rate via Expedia, for a weekend stay, but I was impressed at the value for money I received. I can imagine, from the outside, that some people may be a little concerned about the hotel, as it looks fairly old. And although there were a few minor signs of ageing, such as peeling wood on the bathroom vanity, I couldn't really fault […] this place. I had the most pleasant young lady check me in, and all the other staff I dealt with were very friendly as well. The room was comfortable, and quite quiet, considering it's location. Great water pressure in the shower (which is always important!), as well as plenty of power points for charging. If there was one thing that worried me, it's that I could not seem to pick up the hotel's wireless hotspot from my room, although they do have an ethernet cable. It's in a great location, literally 5 minutes walk from all the bars, restaurants and coffee shops around the Cuba Mall / Manners Street and Courtney Place areas, with easy access to the business district. I was hoping to stay at a comfortable hotel in downtown Wellington, within walking distance to the city. I was pleased with the hotel, the price, and location. Very clean, very comfy, great beds. The only down point was that I wasn't told that, even though I had fully paid for the room prior to arrival, when they took my credit card number at arrival, they charged $150 to it to be held until after (5 - 7 days) checkout. Hotel service is fine, rooms are small but have basics for overnight stay. Just be sure you eat before going there - whole place closed upon arrival prior to 8pm. Nothing in surrounding neighborhood. The staff were really nice. The hotel entrance was the only part of this place that was not run down. The room was very run down, stained carpets, broken lamp shades, dirty walls, dirty windows. All and all not a pleasant experience and spoilt our special week end away.

This time, we had a room ending in 20, so we were a long way from the guest lift, so it was a quiet room. We turned on the TV on the first afternoon and the display was white with green and blue vertical lines. Fiddling with all the connections we could access, we managed to correct it so there was a picture, although two black lines continually travelled […] up the screen and the screen would go almost white from time to time. I reported the probelms on an official form we found in the room and explaining the problems in person to the receptionist as we went out to dinner at about 6pm that night. The next afternoon, the screen had reverted to white with green and blue vertical lines. I wrote a note on telephone paper and left it at reception (the receptionist was busy with other guests who appeared to have a problem so I did not speak to him) as we went out to dinner at about 6.30pm. Just before 9pm reception rang about my note and shortly afterwards the receptionist came to the room (27 hours after I first reported the problem). He reached around behind trhe fridge and eventually managed to fix a connection there. The screen, after a time, worked for the rest of our evening viewing. Our room had been partially refurbished recently - nice. Some old fixtures but everything was clean and tidy and nothing was broken. We were not impressed with our room or hotel in general at all. Our room smelt of bad BO and there was a foul smell coming from the bathroom sink. Our room was stuffy and hot so we turned on the airconditioner only to find it was either broken or did not have a cooling function (only heating) so it made our room even hotter. We stayed on a Saturday […] night and all we could hear till 3am were drunk people outside on the street and other hotel patrols walking passed our room door or the opening and closing (more like banging) of doors and foot steps from our level and the floor above. The hotel details, website and hotel guide say they have gym or fitness facilities however when we couldn't find the gym we asked the front desk who said they haven't had a gym in over 8months. He was not apologetic at all. The evening receptionist was quite rude and vague and was not interested in helping us with any information on local attractions to visit or directions. We found hotel personel very willing and helpful. I would have rated 'comfort of your room' more highly but the room was very hot. However when mentioned to staff we were offered a fan which was efficient and alleviated the discomfort. Perhaps this could be availiable in all upper level rooms without having to ask.

We were in Room 209, which is next to the lift. This was not much of a problem on Thursday and Friday nights, but on Saturday night it was as if people were continually moving fiurniture and dropping heavy metal things from 10pm to midnight - not good for sleeping.
