The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. The physical plant has not been maintained. Peeling paint, old, stained carpet and dirty tile were hallmarks of the building. A foul odor permeated the hallways and guest rooms. The staff and certainly the guests deserve better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I had read previous reviews and was a little nervous about this hote. l was better than i had expected. The staff was super friendly and more than happy to help. Also, even though they were under construction,we were never inconvenienced even with our 2 year old. All in all it was a decent hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worst Comfort Inn experience EVER"
This hotel is in the process of renovation. Worst job I've ever seen … rooms are half complete… Finishing touches are whats missing … in our first room the toilet paper holder fell out of the wall, the shower curtain rod was almost completely pulled out of the wall - so much that we were unable to close the curtain - the sag of the rod made the curtain […] sag to the middle - water all over the bathroom … we requested a room change … 2nd room - toilet was not secured to wall properly allowing sewage gas to fill our bathroom … we complained & asked maintenance to fix to no avail … manager never seemed to be there when we were at the desk … Pass on this one - not up to Comfort Inn standards at all Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Best managed breakfast bar we have encountered in a long time. Clean breakfast bar and eating area. Equipment operated properly. Food, coffee freshly prepared and replenished frequently. No shortages. Lady in charge was out front and anticipating customer needs. Room was clean and in room equipment worked fine. Quiet even though we were near the elevator. […] Common area and exterior needed maintenance and appeared worn. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel seemed to be experiencing a identity crisis. Had a few earmarks of a decent hotel (floating bowl sink, granite counter, new mattresses) but certainly has a long way to go to make it somewhere I would consider staying again. There is a "pardon out dust" sign in the lobby however this can only cover so much. The walls were scarred and dirty. Corners […] were broken on the walls and never repaired. Doors to rooms were severely scarred almost to the point of looking like graffiti. Bathroom had a lot of mold on the ceiling. Floor was covered in sand when we checked in. Toilet had run marks from the tank where it had not been cleaned. This was not done over our 3 night stay either. Housekeeping didn't show up one day. On the flip side, the sheets were clean when we arrived and the breakfast was on par. I won't be staying here or in any other Comfort hotel again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is under renovations which I understand but I asked for a non smoking room and as soon as I walked out of the elevator the stale smoke was in my face. The room had two incenses sticking out the window to try and get the smoke smell out of the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't waste your time or money"
This was the WORST hotel I've ever stayed in. The rooms were NOT clean, the tub and toilet had to be cleaned by us and the floors were sticky. The rooms had a musty smell and WORST OF ALL WE ENDED UP WITH BUG BITES ALL OVER US!!! The hotel staff seemed not to care about this and shrugged it off. Our rooms were never cleaned until we asked for it by […] the maid service that was in the hallway. Our towels were never refreshed. We went to the front desk to tell them we needed towels and they told us to bring them the dirty once before they would give us the clean fresh ones. We DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!! The price was right and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean and sufficient. I wasn't to impressed with the breakfast as the de-caf coffee was not ready or at least the pot did not work. Coffee drinkers take their coffee vary seriously. Other wise, it was a good experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worst hotel ever"
Terrible experience, we paid for 3 non smoking rooms and got smoking rooms, tub clogged up, rooms smelled terrible. Overall worst hotel I've ever stay in would not recommend!!! Stay away.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel is a safe neighborhood"
My main concerns with staying in hotels is the surrounding area and if I can get a good nights sleep. I don't care if some paint is peeling in the hallway or the carpets have old stains on them...The breakfast bar was more than adequate - cold and hot cereal, sausages, eggs, waffles, bagels, yogurt etc. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable […] with a choice of firm or soft pillows. Unfortunately the week we stayed there, from wed to wed, coincided with parents weekend at the local college so Friday and Saturday nights were noisy!!! The rest of our stay was fine. We also stayed while they were having a 40% off promo so that was a great deal as well. If I were to stay here again I would first check and make sure the college was not having any major events as this hotel is so close and is probably the primary hotel that guests would be referred to. "Not Quite What We Expected"
We came in to town for a concert over the weekend and were not in our room very often. The following issues would have been a problem if we were in the room more than just to sleep (the beds were super comfy btw): A/C did not work, no alarm clock in room, phone did not work, no bedside lamp (only one wall mounted light in the room), TV had horrible […] picture quality (wasn't expecting high def or anything, but picture was super fuzzy and pixelated), there was no microwave in the room when it said there would be on our room description at the time of booking, and not enough drawer space for the three of us to unpack our clothing for the weekend (just two small drawers in the TV stand). On the positive, the staff was super friendly and helpful. As we were basically only there at night to sleep we didn't address any of the issues with the staff until we checked out. I'm sure if we had brought the issues up to the staff they would've taken care of getting us a different room. It wasn't a big deal for us as the rates were cheap for a weekend and we were barely there. The hotel is undergoing some renovations, so I'm guessing that's why there were so many things not quite right. I'd wait to stay here again until the renovations are complete. "Hotel Near Walmart and all uptown stuff"
The place looks like it is going under remodeling, but the furniture in the room are all brand new but the paint is peeling in some places in the room along with some minor holes in the walls around the baseboard. The beds were comfortable. Not to bad.Genuine Expedia guest review
Booked 3 rooms, phones did not work in any of the rooms. 1room didn't even have a phone in it. Front desk was notified and still no phone for entire stay. Was under construction so expected some inconvience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value close to the university"
This hotel was under renovation when my daughter and I stayed there, so the facilities themselves were not the best. I suspect that they will be much nicer when we stay there again, however. The staff was excellent and strove to make our stay enjoyable. If you are looking for a good price near UNCW, this is for you. One small annoyance: If you are driving […] to campus or to nearby businesses, a median in front of the hotel prevents you from turning left (the direction to campus), so you always have to go right and drive almost a mile before you have the opportunity to make a u-turn. If you're a walker, it's not a bad walk to the campus, as well as to restaurants and shops. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Save yourself, go elsewhere"

We booked a room here for a weekend getaway to Wilmginton/Wrightsville Beach. Worst hotel room I've ever stayed in. They advertised the room as non-smoking when we booked, but there were multiple ash trays in the room & the entire hall floor reeked of cigarette smoke. The carpet in the room and throughout the rest of the hotel seemed damp and smelled moldy. To be honest, we did not even feel comfortable walking around the room barefoot. The elevators seem like 1980's originals. They seemed unreliable to the point that we started just taking the stairs up to our fifth floor room. This experience ruined the entire "Comfort Inn" name for me. I will never stay at one again. At $90/night it was one of the cheapest options in Wilmington during prime beach season, but I would pay double that now to avoid the sad-sack state that this place was in.
"Almost done with renovations"
08/19/14 Carolyn J Raleigh, North Carolina
We have stayed at this hotel twice before during the renovation process. It is very convenient to the UNC-W campus. Our room had been renovated and was very nice. The breakfast area has moved back to its original location, but now serves a hot breakfast. Some of the rooms are still being renovated in the hotel but the one we stayed in had already been redone with new paint, furniture and carpeting. It will be great when all renovations are complete.

Hotel has undergone major renovations the last year and a half. Checked in last night and Bri was working behind the desk. She was pleasant and professional. Room was clean and breakfast was plentiful

This hotel was out of date. In their defense, they were updating but it just was not enough considering the price that was paid. Our room door had to be pushed hard to shut otherwise it did not latch. I worried that the housekeeper wouldn't shut it once she was done and something would happen to our stuff. Thankfully it didn't. The bathroom door seemed to be swelled so it also didn't shut unless you absolutely forced it too. Free hot breakfast daily was nice. Pool outside was on the smaller side but still nice.
"Hotel is in the Middle of Renovations"
08/11/14 Michael T Greenville, SC
It is a little difficult to rate this hotel at the present time as they are going through much needed renovations. The lobby area has been updated and is decent, although the hotel had the air turned up pretty high so it was hard to enjoy the lobby area in the evening or at breakfast. The hotel is old and some things such as an uneven floor in the hallway near the elevator is hard to hide. The walls show some signs of wear and my door was old and a little difficult to close. The room itself was in pretty good shape with new carpet, paint, and furnishings and nice linens on the bed. I slept well and the price allowed us to save money compared to a Hampton Inn or a Fairfield Inn. Not a great place, but was a solid value for the money.

My husband and I checked into this hotel at 3 PM and by 11 PM the room was damp and the carpet was dirty and wet. Our air conditioning never stopped running the whole time we were there. We went downstairs to hopefully change rooms but the front desk attendant said that the hotel was full. The walls throughout the hotel were chipped and peeling, nearly the entire first floor wasn't open due to renovations and most of the building was either humid or smelled moldy. Thankfully Orbitz refunded our money. Do not stay at this hotel.

I stayed at the comfort in University in Wilmington in June 2014. I got the hotel through a deal on Priceline.com, I guess I got but I pay for! It was rated as two star but I would not even give it one star. When I arrived I was informed that I was placing a smoking room and when I requested a non-smoking room they said they were sorry that I booked online with a third party I could not change it. I guess the whole floor that I was on was the smoking floor as when the elevator door opened I was hit in the face with an overwhelming, nauseating cigarette smoke smell. Needless to say I spent as little time as possible in my room. The hotel is under renovation and there's tractor-trailer trucks parked in the back of the hotel blocking a good portion of the parking lot. It is kind of scary walking back there at night. My room appeared to be one of the ones That had been renovated, all I can say is the renovations were poor quality. The room look nice when you first walk in, but then you notice that what they did was paint over bad walls and the poor job plastering holes in the ceilings. My room was missing a phone and clock radio, I reported it to the front desk and all I was told was that they wouldmake a note of it so I didn't get charged. They never offered me a replacement for the room. The free breakfast was mediocre. Customer service certainly needs to be improved at this hotel. I would strongly advise readers to avoid this hotel. After my visit to the hotel I received an email asking me to rate the quality of my stay. I was very honest with my opinion of the lodging and I got a email from the manager stating that I was disappointed with my stay there and hoped I would give them another try in the future!
"Front desk help made this visit memorable"
07/28/14 VickiAnnL Atlanta, Georgia
We traveled to Wilmington to take a tour of the UNCW campus. We chose this hotel for its close proximity to the school and we got a great price. The room was clean and met all of our needs. The hotel was full over the weekend but we weren't disturbed by loud noise from the hallway. The experience was exceptional because of Bri, a woman on the front desk who went out of her way to be helpful and provide us w/ excellent information about the area and restaurants in particular. She really contributed to making our short visit to Wilmington memorable.
"Front Desk - So helpful and knowledgeable"

I had a friend staying at the hotel and the cute little auburn girl at the front desk was so helpful in providing us great places to eat and what was going on in town. She was much more welcoming than the hotel I was staying at. I believe her name was Brianna
"These negative reviews are a bit over the top..."
07/19/14 ndgstick Lake Isabella, California
I must have stayed at a different hotel than the people writing negative 1 or 3 star reviews. It was quiet, the price was fair and I had a nice, clean room. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and I feel obligated to mention one employee in particular, Brianna, specifically. She was very pleasant to interact with and helped point me in the right direction several times to local restaurants while I was in town for business. I recommend staying here!
