Not quite close to the city centre, but since Amsterdam's not too big a city, it is still walkable, and easy via trams. And one benefit is a quite neighborhood. "$50.00 a night Parking???"
The hotel was nice, the concierge helpful but so disappointed in the parking rates. Made me not trust the Hilton. The check-in staff did not tell the truth about parking. I said I parked my car in the street, is there a problem with that? She said I would have to go out every hour and put in coins. Nobody is going to bother with that so of course I […] moved my car into the Hilton parking and they charged 34 euro a day. That's almost $50.00 and crazy price, it isn't even valet or covered! Come to find out you can purchase an all day pass for the street, which is just a few steps away for 20 euro a day and it's free on Sunday. This was my third Hilton that I stayed in for this trip and I believe that the Hilton is now in the business of add-ons. What ever they can add onto your bill with extras they will try. The mini bar is electronic so you even pick an item up to look at it and your charged. Internet was not free in any of the three Hiltons I stayed at. On the pro side, we rented bikes very easily from the hotel (15 euro each) and rode around Amsterdam. At first we were kind of upset about the location of the Hilton, it was a very long walk from the center of all the action, but as soon as we rented the bikes, we liked that we were able to ride through the neighborhoods that were not so congested, as it is difficult to ride in the center. The hotel is not worth the rate it charged per day. Almost every thing is paid in the hotel right from internet, fitness centre, steam rooms etc. I have been a v frequent traveller and have visited many similar hotels but no where i have seen fitness centre charged never. They charged me twice for the same room. 1500 EUR instead of the 750 EUR I was supposed to pay. It's been a week I'm still chasing up for the money!!! You could say that's far away from city center, but its a walking distance, theres a lot of public transportation and a cab its around 15 euros. A hotel room at any price in this day age should include free wifi. Charging 24 euros for 1 day access feels like robbery. And the magic bar fridge that charges your room for an item even if its just removed and not consumed, feels like highway robbery. Convenient location - 10 minute tram ride from the city centre or 20-30 minute walk. The hotel is located in a very nice part of Amsterdam by the canal - very quite and pretty area away from the hustle/bustle and crowds in the centre of town, yet easily accessible. Overall not bad but unfortunately not 5 star service - room was a little cold when we arrived and took a while to warm up. Gym was 17 euros for a day pass which was not entirely clear at booking. After being given a discount for breakfast we were then charged full price at check out. Received the wrong Hilton members card, taxi was 15 minutes late […] on booking time when leaving for the Airport. Surprised there is no shuttle bus from the airport given that it's only an 18 minute journey. Finally we were unable to exchange currency after check out with no sufficient explanation. We liked the location because it was quiet and away from the busy, loud districts. You can easily walk to major tourist sites, House of Bols was only 15 minute walk away. "Not five star service"
Got this five star hotel after gambling on a mystery location at a discount price. Actually it wasn't that big a discount. Should have kept faith with the tried and tested four star hotels where reception staff try a bit harder. The concierge and door staff were great; willing to help, and full of information. Most disappointing was the reception desk. […] Female staff unwilling to smile or make eye contact, which made us feel unwelcome. Nothing was offered to us on our arrival except for the room key. We should not have had to ask for basic information, such as a map, and how to access the hotel facilities. The impression we were left with is that as Expedia guests we were not worthy of the same respect as the regular business clients, and that they would prefer us not to be seen making use of the shared facilities.
