Dreary weather didn't help but the hotel is showing its' age. "Location was the redeeming value"
I was expecting more from a Hilton. The add on charges for microwave, refrigerator and PARKING were a surprise. The room was not cleaned well. New towels etc. but I swear the bathroom and carpet were never washed or vacuumed. The rug in the main hallways was worn and dirty looking, the concrete in the valet area looked like it hadn't been pressure washed […] in a long while and the stairwells were absolutely filthy and smelled like feet. I guess unless you look like you have money you don't get service at this hotel. I had to tell the front desk twice that they missed cleaning my room. I travel three weeks out of the month and usually stay at the Hilton Garden in, Hampton Inn, or any other Hilton product. The Hilton Wilmington Riverside is in an awesome location. Access to retail, dining and the historic area is near perfect. The hotel itself could use an update. Staff are very friendly the rooms are clean yet shows its age. The […] dining experience is a bit of a disaster. Again, this is a mid grade facility so don't expect fine dining. A Ruth's Chris is attached to the hotel so go there if you want a proper meal. I mainly ate breakfast with my family for a week so I want to comment on that only. Breakfast is typical mass production type of meals. It's solid food but probably not worth the price ($14 buffet) if you are not a Hilton Honors members and get if for free. On this Fourth of July weekend they scheduled a hostess that was obviously new. She was nice but the experience required to handle the number of folks was not there. People were extremely upset and not pleased. The tables were dirty, used coffee cups were recycled by mistake and overall the service was poor every single day. Again, my expectation were not lofty as I know this is not a resort, but I'm talking about basic elements of service. Aside from the breakfast experience the other staff, from Valet to the front desk were first rate. In fact, they were so good it made the breakfast staff look worse. "Not at all worth the money."
I'll try to keep this short, since my entire stay was pretty awful. The hotel shuttle took 45 min to pick me up; I was hung up on 3 times when calling to find where the shuttle was. The front desk girl started my check-in, then stopped and helped another customer without explanation, then sheepishly smiled at me when she knew I knew what she had done. […] The room walls are so thin I could hear the woman next to me sneeze. The hotel is in desperate need of a remodel. The wallpaper is peeling everywhere. Cleanliness: the pillowcases were stained and there was a pile of dust and short curly hairs behind the door in the bathroom. The fire alarm went off and the front desk girls gave no explanation; there was no coordination or understanding of what was going on or where we needed to go. Was the hotel burning down, or was someone smoking in the bathroom? We never got an explanation and eventually just wandered back to our rooms. Front desk receptionist charged us an addition $180 to check-in early. Maid service was non-existent. Had to call reception daily for clean towels and request the room be cleaned. These calls seemed to annoy the day shift receptionist and resulted in maid service for 1 of yhe 2 days we were there. Bathrooms are out-dated. This hotel has walls so paper thin that all four in my party had a horrible rest. So the next day we were all tired and irritable and it ruined the whole point of the getaway. We enjoyed staying here while attending a reception and wedding at the preservation hall. It was great to take the trolley to the events. We enjoyed shopping and eating in town which was walking distance. If it was this fun in the middle of winter it would be great in the spring and summer. "Great stay, but annoying fire alarm"
We had great stay at the Wilmington Hilton except for one thing...the FIRE ALARM went off for 2 hours during the night over a faulty sprinkler head. Being told that there is no fire and to go back to your room only to have the fire alarm go off repeatedly as the maintenance staff repaired the sprinkler was little consolation to dealing with 2 hours […] of alarm and strobe lights--at least that part worked properly. "One small, big issue"
A great location, walking distance to downtown Wilmington. Room was great...except the water was lukewarm at best. We called the front desk, the woman said "oh, that's normal, let it run for 5 minutes." Let it run for about 3 times as long, still lukewarm at best.
