Reviewed by Charlie of Eugene on Oct 27, 2009
If you can't afford valet parking ($21/day plus tips)forget the Pasadena Hilton. Self-parking is VERY inconvenient and pricey ($15/day--not noted on hotels.com). After parking you have to carry your luggage through the parking structure, into the conference area, to the front lobby, then to your room. Exiting isn't any easier since the attendant (an employee of the separately owned parking structure, not the Hilton), must prepare a report for the hotel. Our room was noisy even with the AC off due to the numerous air handlers atop the adjacent conference area. The buffet breakfast was good but also pricey-$18.40.

It's everything you would expect in a Hilton - clean, modern, comfortable. The fitness center is great with lots of equipment and nice open space. Pool is a bit small but not bad. There's a great Mexican restaurant nearby - El Portal. I would stay here again.

Older hotel, so rooms are small and bathrooms very small. Hilton has invested in redecorating, but it's not enough to overcome the structural layout. Maybe I'm used to the Westin beds, but the beds seemed hard, too. Next time, we'll pay a little more and go up the street to the Westin again.

The hotel was clean and nice enough but there was no warmth to the lobby and the room was small. The little starbucks in the hotel was closed when we checked in at 6:00 pm. The small shop was closed as well. For the price there should be a complimentery breakfast of some sort but of course there was nothing free. The location was great, right in downtown Pasadena and just four minutes from the local college.

Generally favorable impression of this hotel except for the fact that room service only available up to 10PM, and I had to wait for about 20 minutes, behind a long line of cars, to get out of the parking garage. I believe this is because of an inefficient procedure that requires the single parking attendant to collect redundant information from guests who are checking out.

Hilton's are generally well regarded and this one did not completely disappoint. The staff was very pleasant, informative and professional. My room was comfortable and seemingly clean but it kind of smelled stale. My event was very nearby so it ended up being the best place for me to stay and it wasn't altogether a bad experience. Although, it was a little pricey for the lack of luxury. But all in all I give it a B-.

The Hilton in Pasadena is convenient and comfortable - neither more than less than I expected and is a fair price for the location. We enjoyed being able to walk to all our Pasadena destinations including the Hollywood Bowl bus (a half-mile walk). Negatives: The air conditioner was unacceptably noisy - we had to get the room ultra cold and then turn off the air in order to sleep; The shower curtain-lining needed laundering to eliminate mold; I wanted English Breakfast tea and wet milk - I don't drink coffee; every woman wants a well-lighted mirror by the desk/dressing table - if husband is in the bathroom that mirror is unavailable. Bar staff were off-hand.

Pasadena is a nice area in LA to stay and the value was pretty much right on for what I paid. However, it does irk me when high-end biz oriented hotels nickel and dime you with frivolous charges such as wi-fi access. I had to pay .39 a minute and a $2.99 service fee to use the biz center. Taking care of a few emails cost me an extra $13.95. Lame
