Great historic hotel in a wonderful neighborhood - main reason for picking this hotel even though we traveled with young children. The rooms could use a makeover and the biggest dissatisfier were the parking fees. The rate we ended up paying at checkout was 50% higher ($75 per day instead of $50) than what we were notified at the time we booked at the hotel. This increase is quite significant for a multiple- day stay! Parking attendant and hotel staff were rude when we inquired about this change in price since we never received any notification from either the Waldorf or hotels.com regarding the possible change in parking fees.

Yes, the lobby is beautiful and Peacock Alley is a terrific place to have a drink and people watch. Yes, the history of the hotel is intriguing, and display cases around the lobby include fascinating photos, menus, etc. However, our room was a disappointment in every way possible. This trip to NYC was in honor of a friend's 65th. I requested a room with two beds and a view. We arrived to leave our bags at about Noon, and were told I'd get a call when the room was ready. So far no problems. We got back to the hotel at 4:30, well after check-in time, and were told our room was not ready, and they'd give us a free upgrade to a king suite with just one bed, but they'd deliver a rollaway. As old friends, we thought we could share the king. The room they gave us was large, but it was SO sad, and I have photos to prove it. The furniture was chipped, wallpaper was coming down, there was clear evidence of a ceiling leak, and when we pulled back the curtain to see the non-existent view (it was an interior room), we could see it was covered with mold. The "kitchenette" included a fridge and small sink, but no tea or coffee maker. Nothing about the room said "the Waldorf." Two different managers gave us free drink tickets as compensation for the inconvenience. Are rooms like this that are so desperate for an update saved for hotels.com folks, I sure hope not!

This was my 2nd time staying at the Waldorf in NYC, and once again it was perfect. When my wife and I arrived early in the morning (around 10am), she was in the midst of suffering through a terrible allergy attack. The gentleman that checked us in did not hesitate for a at all to find us a room readily available at that immediate moment. He unexpectedly upgraded us to a larger room at no additional charge. We couldn't be more appreciative. The rest of the time at the hotel was just as great. Immaculate service with an A+ staff. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip to NYC.

We wanted a little time away from home which is 80 miles North of NYC and also wanted to visit our favorite restaurants and other beloved NYC haunts and so had an overnight stay at the Waldorf which never really disappoints... But upon leaving we forgot the charger for my husband's cell phone. We have called and called---we have been transferred from one department to another to no avail---we don't get any answers just promises. We called at 2:48pm the same afternoon after we checked out---check in is at 3pm plenty of time to get to the room and check it out!!!!! This was Saturday 5/23 and it is now Monday and I am still waiting for an answer!!!!! Other than that the hotel is a treasure!

We were looking forward to our stay at the Waldorf but were disappointment on several fronts. The hotel itself seemed a bit run down. The service was barely friendly, and not all that helpful. And a lot of the hotel amenities were unavailable. For example, when we arrived, after traveling all day, it was around 10:30pm. My husband and I were both very much looking forward to getting to our room and ordering room service, as we had been traveling all evening and had not yet had a chance to eat dinner. When we got to our room, we opened the room service menu only to see a note that the Waldorf was no longer offering all night dining and that room service was now till 11pm. It was 10:55pm. Luckily they took our order, though the attendant was clearly annoyed to be getting an order just before "closing time." The next morning I stopped at the concierge to make an appointment at the hair salon for later that day. I was told that the salon had closed. I asked where the starbucks in the hotel was, as I remembered there being one. I was told that had closed as well. It felt like the Waldorf Astoria was going out of business one part at a time. Later that night, after returning to the hotel from a gala, friends and I went to the bar. Upon arrival we were told it was "last call" as it was nearing 11pm. What has happened to this hotel? We thought that being able to book a room at this fine hotel for around $300/night was a deal. Instead we felt overcharged and undeserved.

We were excited to stay at the Waldorf Astoria, well, just to say that we did. The name carries weight. The entryway and lobby are pretty fantastic. And just it's presence on a pretty amazing little piece of Park Avenue. That's kind of where the wow factor ends. The room was very dated. The floor kind of slanted. The AC didn't really work, but thankfully it was a cool May night and we opened the windows. The bedding was nice, but the overall bed comfort was so so. And that's about it. Room service and mini bar outrageously priced as expected. $100 a person for the Sunday brunch, which I'll admit did smell wonderful when exiting the elevator in the morning to check out. Reception service was average at best. The immediate neighborhood has little going on, but walking to Lexington Avenue shopping and the 2nd avenue bars and nightlife was convenient enough. We used our welcome rewards night on top of catching a great deal for $189 a night on a last minute Saturday in May. So that made it worth it. Otherwise I would never pay $400-600 plus a night to stay here. There's way better options in more happening neighborhoods with significantly more room amenities for the same price or less.

Dont know where to startsua. the first impression is the one that sticks and well it was awful. Pulled vehicle in to Valet, 4 Valets standing just starring at the vehicle. My wife and i get out the vehicle, no one greats us or offered help. We have a 3 months old in the back of the vehicle, we take our own luggage out and our daughter, still no help from anyone. Then stand by the car waiting for someone to great us or acknowledge us. NO ONE!!!! Finally a valet named Louis approaches us and ask us if we want to valet. REALLY!!???? No Good evening, no welcolme, nothing. He then asked me if we were checking in. Once i responded yes His response was and i quote, "YOU ONLY HAVE 20 MINS TO CHECK IN OR ELSE I WILL CHARGE YOU" I don't have enough words to describe how furious i was. This is mother's day weekend, and i thought taking my wife to the waldorf astori would be a good thing. Anyhow i told him i was ok with it i didnt care. Still no help with luggage from anyone. Go in and check in. 20 mins later we are coming back downstairs. Go to the valet kiosk on the lobby, gentleman doesnt great me, as a matter of fact he didnt say a word to me. He just took my ticket and scanned it, while he was doing that i told my wife to go to the car which was right outside the door to start putting our daughter in the vehicle. No one opens the door for her one, two as she goes outside LOUIS tells her she cant because i need to pay first. OH MY GOD, your service is absolutely horrible

The room was a throw back to the 70's which was great for matching all the pictures of celebrities who stayed there during that time. The room had to be cleaned again once we arrived. There were clumps of hair left in the bathroom from the previous guest and the beds were ungodly uncomfortable as well.

For years, I'd wanted to try the Waldorf Astoria to see if it lived up to its reputation. Its public spaces, shops and restaurants are expensively grand, though somewhat stuffy and impersonal. However, my "superior" class room was small (cramped desk and barely room for a small chair) and threadbare, with worn carpet, peeling paint and a dated and somewhat shabby bathroom. On the plus side, the room was clean and quiet and the bed was comfortable. Internet connectivity was pretty good. Overall a decent hotel but nothing to celebrate. Service at the concierge desk was unenthusiastic (perhaps I didn't look wealthy enough to bother with). The hotel's surroundings on Park Avenue are commercial and bland, with fewer restaurants than in most areas of New York City. Taxis are hard to come by and the subway is a couple of blocks away. I prefer the West side or Midtown for atmosphere and convenience.

I reserved a Signature Suite and an extra room for family the night before and of my wedding on May 3, 2015. The suite itself was lovely and offered more than enough space for myself, six bridesmaids, two make artists and my mom to get ready, with a photographer snapping around us. It did not look exactly as in the photographs for a Signature Suite, but it was elegant and well appointed, offered excellent views and provided a very photogenic space for our morning of wedding photos. The bathroom and lounge were particularly lovely. The hotel staff was excellent and answered all of our questions and helped us find the perfect place in the hotel for our "first look" wedding photos. We had a fantastic stay during our wedding weekend. Parking is quite costly at $65 each entry, but that's also not uncommon for this area of Manhattan. Stay here if you want to experience classic New York elegance and beauty.

This is NOT a 5 star hotel. In the shower the light was rusted, light switch was rusted, the grout was moldy, the silver was wearing off the mirror, burn marks were on the counter in front of the window. The lobby and bar was crowded with tourist so you couldn't order a drink. Stay somewhere else that is a landmark hotel in NYC. There are plenty in much better condition. This Hilton hotel alls short.

Classic hotel deserves its reputation. Gorgeous lobby, attentive service. I was upgraded, without even asking, to a larger room that was truly wonderful. Beautiful furniture, corner windows. And the price was lower than I saw for many rooms and hotels of much lower quality. I would definitely look for it again.

The Waldorf is a great, big hotel. This being said, it is also unpersonal. Great location, fantastic lobby but very limited services outside the obvious and all extras are very expensive (internet, breakfast,...) Even a shoe shine or getting a coffee machine in your room (for you to make your own coffee) comes with a fee. However, you cant go wrong with this hotel, if you get a decent rate for new york ($<300) i do recommend it

We stayed 4 nights, service was excellent except for Bull and Bear Restaurant. The hotel is definitely old and slightly worn feeling but cleanliness was great. The AC/Heat did not work very well in our suite. We stayed in the original part and it was charming. Room service was excellent.

The hotel is great but the service was poor. Maid service entered without knocking (two times) and acted rudely when asked to come back. Housekeeping was not cordial when bringing coffee brewer. The woman responsible for tour information (not the concierge)acted like we were bothering her. The hotel itself is beautiful but don't expect to be greeted or treated warmly.

Check in problem free. Friendly and helpful front desk attendant. Bags arrived within minutes of entering room; however, for a hotel of this caliber, I thought the bellhop should have retrieved the luggage rack from the closet, set it up and placed the heavier and larger of our two bags on the luggage rack. Instead the bags were just wheeled into a corner of the room and given the customary "if you need anything" salutation. The bed was soft yet comfortable. My only true complaint involved the noise level from the steet. Wife and I requested a quiet room when booking and again at check in. Nonetheless, it turned out that the traffic noise (sirens, horns, delivery trucks and nearby roof top mechanical equipment) infiltrated the room at all hours of the day and night making sleeping a challenge even on the 15th floor. In all fairness to the hotel, this is simply part of staying in mid-town New York. The art deco design is wonderfully preserved and I enjoyed the vintage surroundings and ambience. If you are looking for a true art deco experience, this is it. If you are looking for modern, state of the art conveniences, spend more and find accommodations elsewhere. Would I stay again? Probably not since Park Avenue and 49th Street as a location, tends to be noisy most of the day. Still, many Manhattan attractions are within walking distance (Fifth and Madison Avenue Shopping, Central Park, and restaurants) if you enjoy taking it all in on foot.

The first room was very musty and deodorant was heavily applied to mask it. I immediately left and asked for another room at the front desk. I did get another room on another floor and it was good. Clean air nice bathroom. However the hotel is very old and desperately need an up grade. It is not worth the price it commands. One restaurant was closed(Bull and Bear) One only served buffet style breakfast(Oscars) and the lounge was full. Except for a table that appeared to be reserved. So I asked does one need to make reservations? "No" was the response. I said then may I sit over there? "No we are sorry sir that table has been reserved". Really????? I have stayed at the Waldorf several times before but will not stay again.There are many hotels in its price range that far exceed its service and are not run down. This hotel has some serious issues.

I brought my daughter, 27, to NYC for a mother/daughter trip. The Waldorf was an excellent place to stay. Everything went smoothly from check-in, to taxi service, to room cleaning, concierge service and check-out. The beds were super soft and our floor was pleasantly quiet. A wonderful trip and hotel.

My wife, my 3 months old and I spent a long weekend visiting NY. We were a little concerned about taking our baby to the city, but the Waldorf hotel was great for us. There were plenty of room to install a crib inside the room, they provided us blankets for the baby, they were clean and comfy. They also installed a microwave inside our room so we can sterilize the baby bottles. We also attended to the Sunday brunch and it was delicious. We were very happy with our stay in this hotel, all the staff was very friendly, we will definitely come back.

My very first trip to New York included a stay at the Waldorf, and I was dazzled. I'm more jaded than dazzled now, but I still love the Waldorf. My room had a few signs of wear and tear, but the elegance and comfort of an earlier era more than makes up for that. Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, large closets and nicely-sized bathrooms, are all too rare, and the Waldorf has them all. The staff was very helpful, I could walk to meetings and a post-meeting show (& to Bloomingdales!); the location is very convenient. The internet was a little shaky, but I will still be staying at the Waldorf next time I am in town, and am planning a family stay sometime around the holidays.
