Ornate, historic hotel. Front desk was friendly and helpful. Placed in corner room on 16th floor. Beautiful and functional. Downsides include rude help in sundries store, on and off wi fi, and limited access to restaurants-unless you enjoy formal dress codes. Grand lobby. Good location. Would stay again.

"Waiting for my bags."
It took me an hour to get my bags sent to the room! It was 11:00pm on a Sunday. I called the desk twice and a manager over the course of 60 mins. When the bellhop brought me my bags, after saying "Good evening," he followed with "It is not my fault."

"Worst hotel room for money!"
We were given the worst room for our five night stay. I have stayed here two previous times. There was not enough room to put our suitcases on floor to open up. It was the smallest room. It was right by elevator. We ordered room service and the tray could not fit around the doorway into the room. We had to leave in doorway. Apparently bc we booked through an online site we got the worst room. I have always enjoyed the Waldorf Astoria. I will NEVER stay there again! The bathroom was old with a pedestal sink and old bathtub. It hasn't been updated and ceiling cracking. Not worth the money!

"luxury you would expect"
The Waldorf Astoria was exactly what you would expect in a luxury hotel. It was gorgeous. Staff members were very attentive providing fantastic service. The bellman who brought our luggage was very helpful providing us with information about the area. He was very careful with our belongings and ensured we had everything we needed prior to leaving. Beds we're very comfortable. The only slight issue we had was that the air conditioning just wasn't able to cool the room as well as we would have liked. Other than that our stay was wonderful.

"A Night at the Waldorf"
It seems the new Chinese ownership of this hotel is providing much needed funding for modernization. Overall the room was fine considering it was affordable at a summer, weekend rate but there were slight plumbing issues and I waited in a long line to check out only to find I didn't need to because they already debited my card. Overall, it impressed the heck out of my client whom I entertained there in the cafeteria. Definitely a special experience and useful to be close to Grand Central Station.

"Great hotel, the BEST location, but... picked the wrong weekend."
Great Hotel, picked the wrong weekend... Definitely a very good hotel overall, there could´t be a better location, but... Last weekend there was a congress called "A NEW BEGINNING" crowded, check in line: 25 minutes, very loud people, sunday at their checkout a scandal, we could´t sleep well. Everything turned ver nice, clean, comfortable an QUIET for our last 3 nights. The standard room we picked was very small, no contacts near the bed.

"Not what she used to be"
Staff was friendly and helpful. Room could use an update, bathroom light appeared to be held in place with duct tape. This wasn't the only item that ha seen better days. If you want history and name recognition this is a good place, comfort and amenities should be sought elsewhere.

"Mediocre at best"
This is not my first time at Waldorf - I have stayed there two or three times before and never happy. The only reason I stayed there this time is because of the conference that was held in the hotel. Unfortunately, this time around was also not very impressive: they put me in a room that was either a smoking room or someone just smoked there right before I checked in. I called the front desk and they moved me, after making me sit and wait in the room for about an hour. After that, my overall stay was ok: mediocre room with moldy shower and lukewarm service. I have to say that last time when I stayed there, they had no hot water one of the mornings. When I called and asked about it, I was told that the building is old, and things break, so what do you expect. I am not planning on staying there again, unless required by the conference/business, in which case I have no choice.

"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.."
The Good: Excellent location with many attractions within walking distance - Fifth Ave, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, UN Headquarters, Broadway, etc. Helpful staff, they found us great seats for Mamma Mia at a reasonable markup on the day of the show. The Bad: The room was cramped with uncomfortable beds, the A/C had only 2 settings Freezing and Off. No exhaust fan in the bathroom. Full size beds with king size pillows which are a pain when 2 people share a bed. You had to call to get a complementary coffee tray (most hotels have this in the room). The Ugly: We were expecting at least a decent room given the iconic status of the Waldorf Astoria. The closet sliding door was so hard to open that it had a notch cut on one end to stick a finger and push the door. The bathroom door had peeling paint and the handle was falling apart.

"Love the Waldorf.."
I love the Waldorf, it's super clean and cozy. I never have any problems or complaints. However, this time our room was very close to a service door that was slammed many times at night and woke us up. The room was always impecable and comfortable. I would really like for this hotel to offer queen beds instead of double, they are not big enough for 2 people. Overall I would recommend the hotel. We were given a free wifi code for the days we stayed! and... this is maybe something just people with high sense of smell would care for: the whole lobby smells soooo good!

"Loved it!"
Our room was very large compared to NYC standards. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the furnishings were very upscale. We were on the 16th floor and there was very little traffic noise. We enjoyed this hotel and would defintely stay again. The location is hard to beat -- it is midtown toward the east. Close enough to everything without being in the middle of it all. And, of course, the lobby is opulence defined!

"Old and dated."
The iconic Waldorf Astoria. A five-star hotel right on Park Ave., should be a great stay, right? Nope. The entrance and common areas of the hotel are spectacular. Ornate, large, lavish and just harkens back to the days of old. The elevators, while old, are fast. My room was on the 27th floor and as you walk through the hallways, you notice old carpet that looks like it's overdue for a change... I entered the room and was overwhelmed by the smell of mold/rotting wood in the foyer. The room itself was quite large for NY standards and had great natural lighting. The furniture and wall coverings were old and looked extremely dated. The carpet also looked like it needed a change. The bathroom was terrible. It was small and just so clumped together. A five-star hotel with shower curtains? This was a once in a lifetime stay. That is, I stayed here once, I won't return again.

"So classy!"
Everything was wonderful for my daughter's and my visit for a one night stay after seeing a show. The employees were very professional. The room was huge for NYC! Our only disappointment was NO bathrobes in the room. We really missed that extra touch! IF the price is ever reduced like this visit, we will return!

"Not impressed"
Not impressed. Got put in nice large corner room with 3 windows and 1 in bathroom which was pleasant but Room felt musty and old. Water pressure sucked. Had to call a few times for ice bucket to be delivered also for maid service called 3-4x and they just came up and dropped sheets off onto bed then left. Room service is outrageous. I ordered a $28 salad it ended up bring 43$ by the time the added on 21% gratuity and taxes. Bed was comfy. And they did let me have late checkout until 1pm. Staff nice. Very busy, noisy lobby. Broke the bank staying there. Room was not clean, I sneezed a lot and when packing up my stuff, looking under beds and tables, chairs and along walls were very dusty w debris.

"EXCELLENT EXCEPT"
Our stay at the Waldorf was a surprise to my wife for her 65th birthday. I included in the surprise a massage and a manicure. The massage was good, but the manicure was less than acceptable. While manicuring my wife's nails, the manicurist spent a significant amount of time giving directions to her co-workers on how to prepare for a group of women who were to come in to the spa after my wife's session. At the Waldorf. one would expect the manicurist to devote all of her time to the one who s/he is serving. This was not the case. I hope that the Waldorf will take steps to improve the situation.

"An experience every NY visitor should have!"
A lot of history in a good quality hotel. Clean and big room like no other hotel in Midtown. Location is very good. Easy to connect with major attractions.

"Astoria Hotel - think twice before spending the $$"
We were quite disappointed with our room. Carpet was old and warn and giving away at the bathroom entrance, wall paper was starting to peel. Windows were so filthy on the outside you could barely see out. The bathroom was less than desirable. I feel like they need do to major remodelling of their rooms. Unless they gave us a poor room because we booked through Hotels.com. Their room service was less than desirable for the money spent and they were very unaccomodating.

"TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE"
I have never been so disappointed with a hotels reaction to a problem. My total stay was around $700 yet they put pending charges on 2 different cards totally over $2000 without informing me! When I approached the front desk I was given the run around. I asked for a manager & was told she would call my room. This rude woman informed me this was protocol. Really?? If tying up over $2000 of funds days after checkout is protocol, something is wrong with the way you do business. I WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN. Plus the shower didn't drain & the air wasn't properly working in the room. Awful.

"Perfect mother daughter experience"
My friend and I took our daughters to the city for their 13th bday and stayed at the Waldorf. Although the grand old hotel has a little wear and tare, it's such quintessential old glamour experience. They felt very fancy indeed, at a price that we could never get at the Plaza. It was perfect for an experience with young teenage girls.

"Timeless elegance"
Classic New York stylish hotel. If you get the room for a good price just be prepared to overpay for food and drinks at the hotel. It pricey even by NY standards.

We were expecting a quiet stay in the hotel. What we got was an all-night parade of honking cabs, sirens, and anything else that can keep you up all night! The lobby of the hotel seemed incredibly crowded as well.

I have to admit as much as I was excited about the thought of staying there I was a little disappointed with the room it was basic and you could of had better staying a cheap bed and breakfast don't get me wrong the hotel inside was outstanding but I spent two nights and paid $550 I was expecting a little more for my money

"Waldorf Astoria is no longer a grand hotel"
We were very disappointed in the Waldorf, it is no longer a grand dame, it is a tired old lady. The room showed wear and tear, the shower curtain smelled musty, and overall the furnishings are dated. Both at check in and when we returned to get our keys later in the day, we waited 20 minutes in a line to be attended to. The worst part was that there was a wedding in the lobby on the Saturday night and they closed the lobby to all the hotel guests - we had to go down to the garage level and take an elevator to our room. Obviously the revenue from the wedding was more important than all of the hotel guests. The only plus is that the staff were very helpful.

"Family fun"
We planned our visit for a family birthday and this palace didn't disappoint. Best features: the dazzling lobby, and the spacious rooms. Comfortable, old-fashioned, but also clean and well maintained. Professional and friendly front desk and concierge. Also the florist came through with a beautiful bouquet at last minute. Only problem was AC not working well.

"Waldorf vacation"
The room we were given initially was not the room we reserved. We didn't notice immediately that the bed was a queen, not a king. At first they acted like they couldn't do anything about it but finally they did move us. Also, the maid for our room never left enough towels and we did not have nightly turn-down service as advertised. I thought the charge for the roll-away bed was excessive.

"Out dated hotel with Rude staff"
I usually stay with Waldorf everytime I visit NYC and I stay The luxury room. It keeps getting worst. Room carpet has stains. Every thing inside the room seems uncleaned and outdated . If you call room service , they are extremely rude. Customer service is vey important to me and this hotel has failed In Customer service. Only thing good about this hotel is the lobby. I will not be staying at this hotel anymore

"Once in a Lifetime Experience... But Just Once"
I jumped at the opportunity to treat my family to a weekend in NYC at a posh hotel at a great price. The hotel itself did not disappoint- the building is magnificent, the lobby reeks of elegance, and the rooms, though fairly small, were beautiful and comfortable. But- I think of people staying at the Waldorf-Astoria, and I think of people being pampered. That was not the case. The service wasn't subpar, but I expected much more given the typical rates. Did they relax their service standards because this weekend's rates were so low? You pay $65 for valet parking at the Waldorf, you expect people to help you unload luggage (and load when leaving instead of watching my 70 year old dad lift up and load a large suitcase), or hold the hotel doors open for you as you enter/exit with luggage (seriously- every hotel with valet parking that I've stayed at have bellmen who hold the doors open for you). The lines for check-in and check-out were long and slow-moving. The concierges were helpful but seemed disinterested. Sunday brunch was amazing, but the check-in process was disorganized (despite seeing me in clear view, they did not realize that someone had not taken us to our table), and the waiter service was not as attentive as you'd expect. Overall, I'm glad we stayed there. It's also hard to beat the area. But I left thinking, "I can't believe anyone would pay $600/night to stay here." As it was, I wonder if even my $300/night rate was overpaying for the experience.
