"Wife's favorite hotel"
I've always had great luck at the Waldorf. The food is excellent but very expensive. Otherwise, it is what you should expect - comes with some quirks that go along with its age but generally in good condition. Great location, excellent service. The rooms are pretty large for New York.

"A once in a lifetime stay"
The hotel has old New York charm. Our room was spacious but a little outdated. Our room faced Lexington Ave. Which although a nice view, the tragic noise was quite loud and unfortunately effected our sleep.

"I am in heaven!!!"
My boyfriend came to NYC for business and I met him for fun. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I knew our stay at the Waldorf would be wonderful. The history of this hotel is mind boggling. If only the walls could talk. When I walked into our room I was so excited, because it was beautiful. The views from our windows are incredible. Then I went downstairs to the lobby to people watch. People from all over the world visit the Waldorf. Sitting at the bar at Peacock Alley was so special too listening to fantastic tunes from a piano that Cole Porter once played on. I love everything about staying at the Waldorf. They energy in this hotel is electrifying. My time here will be filled with fond memories and I look forward to coming back in the Spring.

"Great location, Nice Staff, But Hotel Needs Rehab"
This prestigious old hotel is in serious need of rehab. Staff at door and desk were very courteous and friendly. Downstairs bag pick-up after storage was terribly managed. To be fair, the flow of the baggage space is bad. Room was clean, but dated. We got home late Saturday night so we didn't notice, but the cleaning crew didn't replace our towels, took a perfectly good bar of soap and didn't leave a new bar. Waited over an hour for a make-up mirror-most hotels have one of those. Every window needs to be replaced. Room temp was impossible to manage because fans and a/c during December warm-up was useless. The location is terrific so we might give it another try if we hear it has been modernized.

Great ambiance. Felt welcome. The safe didn't work in the room. I waited for an employee to fix it and had to call them off so I could leave and get to a dinner on time. It never got fixed so I wound up taking all my jewelry and money with me wherever I went. Not happy about that

The room was cold because one window was stuck and didn't close completely. The front desk told us the heating was not on yet (Dec 10th) and that they'll send a space heater. 1 1/2 hr later around 1:30am they woke us up to deliver the heater, which helped. The next day Room service opened the door at 8:30am to clean the room. Not a very restful night.

"Holiday Chaos"
Nice suite with easy elevator access. Shower but no tub. Doormen did not care or greet you upon arrival. Checking in took 1/2 hour and the room was not ready. Hotel has declined somewhat but still does an OK job and you can't beat the location.

"Great Historical Property, but..."
Quintessential landmark hotel. Must try at least once. Loved the historical aspect of this hotel. Lobby and staff were top notch. Room was getting a little long in tooth - loose plumbing fixtures, rust around fixtures, a few small stains on chair and carpet. Air conditioning didn't work well at all. To be honest, didn't sleep well either night of stay - bedding and room climate not comfortable. On first night had to call security to stop major party in room above ours. Very loud. Next door neighbors were banging on our wall thinking it was us! Security did call back to tell me all set. Again, great staff. Also, the Waldorf literally invented room service. But don't think of ordering unless you want to second mortgage your home.

"Deal of the century"
I was surprised to find out a deal where a $900 room could be booked for $200. Then when we checked in, we got a free upgrade to the Waldorf Towers which was more like $2000 room for $200. Great savings.

"GORGOUS HOTEL until you take an elevator up!"
The entry level lobby and reception area were fabulous! We expected the same for the rooms, but once you arrived on your floor it was like a disconnect from the hotel lobby and photos. The rooms are very tired. The heat was on full blast with no option. The outdoor temperature was 65. Some windows would not open. The the wallpaper was literally coming off the walls in the hallway! A doorbell and light bulbs did not work in one room. A phone did not work in another room. The main disappointment was the very tired overall look of the rooms.

We had the one bedroom suite. It was wonderful. Very large and gave a great place for our family to gather. The bathroom was small - almost no counter space, but it was a small sacrifice for the otherwise large amount of space in both rooms.

"Best Service In NYC"
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The entire hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The beds are the best beds of any hotel on Earth. The neighborhood is very safe and they actually had NYPD officers stationed at every entrance for added security. If you are planning on visiting one of the restaurants at the hotel take at least semi formal wear or you will feel really out of place. Also, if you are taking the subway from this hotel take the 51st station. It's the closest.

I am very happy I chose the Waldorf. Everything was great except a couple bartenders. Tell them it has an impact on their tip if they don't make people feel welcome. Other bartenders and were excellent and very friendly. I would return to this hotel. Overall I'm Very Happy with my stay.

"not for everyone"
This hotel was not for me. The rooms are not insulated from noise outside nor from neighboring rooms. For me this meant zero sleep. Also there is no coffee in room nor anywhere to get a to-go coffee in the hotel. This is relatively common in NYC but is a major peeve of mine. The room temp was also really hot and there is no way to cool it (temp is controlled centrally), so I was uncomfortably hot for my entire visit. Not fun while trying to sleep or while putting on makeup. The hotel staff was generally nice but was unable to resolve any of this. I ended up leaving after the first night of a 3-day stay and we now have an unsolved billing dispute as a result.

Excellent hotel with superior service. Only drawback is the somewhat limited breakfast options (especially a casual choice to grab a coffee and muffin). There are plenty of options in the immediate neighborhood. The meals I did have at the hotel were fabulous.

"Old and tired"
We selected a suite as I have stayed there many times before and I was dismayed at the look of old and tired furniture in the living room. They do belong in a neighborhood garage sales: worn, discolored, bent in the middle and plain old. The lady at the front desk was impersonal and robotic, although pleasing. Dissapponted!!!

"Nice lobby-not-so-nice room."
Lobby was fancy and very nice. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had cracked tile throughout and the tub was in very rough shape. The tub was basically coming apart. "Disappointed with a grand old Hotel."
The Waldorf Astoria is a grand old hotel in the middle of Manhattan. Its entrance hall, reception and public areas are all beautiful and in keeping with the reputation that it has built over many years. Unfortunately, this grandeur and attention to detail has not been maintained beyond that. I recently took my family to New York, and we were all very excited about staying at this historic hotel in the middle of Manhattan. I had taken particular care to ask the hotel for two rooms beside each other (I have children). However, on arrival it was suggested that we could have rooms that were not even on the same floor...it took several hours to get this sorted out. The room that I stayed in had a damp odour. The rooms had a worn appearance and are in need of refurbishment. Also, on two days my wife and I were allotted a single bath towel between us. This was among a list of housekeeping issues that we experienced during our stay. The hotel provided us with breakfast on our first morning for not having our rooms available to us when we arrived, and for that we are very grateful. Unfortunately the condition of the rooms and the repeated issues with housekeeping took away from the reputation that this hotel should have. The Waldorf is still in an excellent location and we had a fantastic time. Overall I would suggest that if you wish to travel to NYC, then wait until the Waldorf has been completely refurbished, or pick another hotel.

We have stayed at the Waldorf many times. The location is great, close to everything, love the history of the hotel. Rooms are getting dated.

"Beware........Not worth the $$$"
I wanted to stay at this iconic hotel simply because I have always stayed here when I visit NYC. I have stayed at many Waldorf Astoria locations throughout the United States, but this particular stay was disappointing. The hotel lobby is gorgeous, however the rooms need to be updated! The furniture, bathrooms, carpet, curtains, and overall guest rooms need some remodeling. The toilet overflowed every time it was flushed. In addition, the window shades were so old that I struggled every morning to open them. To make matters worse, my shopping bag full of souvenirs worth about $240.00 mysteriously disappeared after my room was cleaned by the attendant. Although the hotel promptly sent someone to report the case, they never followed up or provided any compensation for my loss! This is definitely not the kind of experience I want at $400 plus per night. I will definitely not stay here again!

Great location. The hotel and its amenities are outdated & need lots of repairs. Old hotels need constant maintenance to maintain their charm- there has been a lack of attention to the overall cosmesis of the hotel. The air conditioning is TERRIBLE- it is non-existent- I cannot imagine how hot the rooms are in the summer

"NYC trip"
During the day and evening you may hear some of the sounds of the city. It did quiet down during the night- after 11 pm. Staff was wonderful to deal with. Yes, it is pricey. Location is very good-

"Near Central park"
Wonderful experience. Room was small, I had deluxe queen. Bed slept like a full size. Concierge service is wonderful, we wanted Italian for dinner. The best I have had, fresh and flavorful. It felt like Italy for a very reasonable price. Great!

"OLD OLD OLD MOTEL. That's what it is!"
So, I had to rate this hotel 1 star so its true value will be reflected on Hotels.com . I am very surprised that it's rated at over 4 stars. 3 stars is its MAX value. The only great things about this hotel is its location, lobby, and "name". and about the latter, don't be fooled by the name, you will receive NOTHING in return. The hotel looks like it was not updated in 50 years! 50 years! The only thing that was updated is the mini bar with sensors that will automatically charge you when you remove a drink from the refrigerator. Outside of that, you will receive a very mediocre service. Since we stayed there 6 nights, we had enough time to see the hotel operation. First, there's no doormen at all time. Only a few hours a day, and even then, not at the same time. This was a problem, b/c the doors were extremely heavy, and there were lots of stairs from the (Park ave) main entrance, and we travelled with a stroller that couldn't fit easily in the rotating door. So, there was no help there, EVER. This could presents a real issue to elder people on wheel chairs or to those who find it difficult to go up the stairs. Second, several issues were solved after a LONG time. Positive experiences: Shout out to Romano (doorman), Ron (from reception), and another guy whom I didn't get his name from the Concierge services, who were very prompt and helpful. The room services ladies all did a great job at cleaning and organizing our room. Overall, I would NEVER come back to this hotel.

"Lots of history and character"
This was a lovely hotel, but significant issues for the price. Beautiful common areas, rooms were tired. Updating left a lot to be desired. Also, the front desk was understaffed, causing long check-in lines.

"Nice location and decor."
It was a great location to walk many places yet avoiding the hustle bustle of Times Square. Beautiful historic hotel. I would have been happier if I had a coffee maker in my room. I assumed all hotels had complimentary coffee.
