This hotel is well-located in downtown, walkable to that area. Room was clean and nice, but there were a couple issues while we were there. First of all, I did not receive my wake-up call the first day. Secondly, they mischarged me for room service. We traveled to Anchorage in mid August and secured a room at a Hilton Hotel in the downtown area prior to our arrival. When we arrived we discovered that the only way to park your car was by valet and there was no self parking available, unless as I was told you wished to park your car on the street and feed the parking meter. The ad does list that […] the hotel has valet parking but does not tell you there no other options. The valet parking is $24 a day whether you move your car or not. It is somewhat disappointing since every other hotel in the area has free or validated parking. Additionally. our last day of a four day stay, we asked for a late checkout of no more than an hour since we had to run to Walmart and buy an extra suitcase. We were told they could not extend that courtesy to us. I explained that in all likelihood we would be back in time and be able to check out on time but wanted to ensure that we did not have to pack our extra suitcase in the car. The manager apologized but indicated the would not be able to assist us. An apology was not what I was looking for and expected a little more from a Hilton hotel. Anchorage is the largest metropolis in Alaska and has every type of hotel you can expect from a large city. "Do not stay there"
Flew into Anchorage at 12am. When I got to the hotel I was told only smoking rooms were available. I booked non smoking. Then I was told to wait 15mn and they would have room cleaned on the non smoking floor. I went parked my car unloaded my 200 lbs of luggage and came back to be told that I actually need to stay at the Captain Cook ( by the way great […] hotel) for the first night. The manager on duty was nowhere to be found. The poor beginner at the front desk was overwhelmed. I was not the only one by the way. Even flight crews were turned away. By the time I was at the Captain Cook Hotel it was 1:40am waiting in line for another 20mn. I came back the next day to stay at the Hilton the second night and the Hilton Family should be ashamed to have this place under there name. The rooms are small, dirty and I have stayed in motels with better amenities. I can't believe this place is a Hilton. Stay away if you can. Put up the extra money to stay at the Captain Cook. Though the staff was pleasant and the rooms were clean and came with all manner of nice soaps etc, the room felt claustrophobic, the views were pretty lame and with the window open (which barely opens) to reduce the closed in feeling, the airconditioning unit on top of the adjacent building was very loud and we were well away from it on the 14th floor. "Too expensive for what we got."
First we were put in a very smelly smoking room when we had requested non-smoking. Then they put us in a room that was so small that you could barely walk around the bed. Then when we complained they put us in a nicer, larger room. The only problem was that it was unseasonably warm and the air conditioning didn't work. The room stayed about 78 degrees. Hotel location is horrible, as it is in the part of town that you have to pay for parking no matter where you park. The Anchorage Hilton exceeded my expectations. I was travel weary and pleasantly surprised. Was here a year ago and the ice machine on the 9th floor didn't work-it still doesn't this year nor the one on the 11th floor. Informed the front desk about it. Rooms kept at a very comfortably warm temp-almost too warm but thermostat in room allowed us to turn the heat down. I stayed in the Anchorage tower, in which I hadn't stayed before. The room was very clean and had a decent view of downtown. The king size bed wad quite comfortable. I arrived at Anchorage around 9:30pm. Had some souvenir shopping at the shop in the hotel lobby. Took a 3-hour morning city tour then checked out of the hotel and got my rental car to drive to Seward. Nothing much in Anchorage to see. During our honeymoon in Alaska, we decided to splurge and stay at 'The Hilton' for one night during transit in Anchorage. We were quite tired after a long day and looked forward to relaxing in our room. When we got there, it was small, dated and had that stale old smoking smell of many old hotels. We were tired, and had an early morning train, and it […] didn't help that due to a mix up at check-in, housekeeping tried to come in at 5am waking us up. Our room keys then did not work the following day due to the same mix up. If it were a cheaper hotel, it may not have bothered us so much, but staying at the Hilton carries certain expectations, and these were not met during our stay.
