"Right on Kaimana Beach"
Spent 2 nights. The room was small with no real view, but we didn't spend much time there anyway. The hotel has its own beach (public), with a lovely open air patio restaurant. East of Waikiki, it is a long but do-able walk to the more touristy area of Waikiki.

It was my 7th time visting Oahu, and 2nd time staying the hotel. Nice Diamond Head view room, big lanai, room is very clean, cozy, quiet, staffs are nice and the hotel is on the beach!! I watched 4th July fire works on the beach! I stayed many different hotels before but this hotel is good cost performance to me.

"Hotel right on the water of Waikiki."
I enjoyed our stay here. The hotel staff was always very nice. We even made friends with the valet staff, as they gave us tips on some good surfing spots in the area. The hotel is in the center of Waikiki. Close enough to walk/drive into town, but far away enough from the other hotels/ touristy action which we found relaxing.

"Quiet"
This hotel is located at the end of Waikiki--if you are looking to be in the thick of things, this is not the hotel for you. We also had an issue with a tour company not picking us from from this hotel because of our location. However, the location is quiet--you can hear the wind and the waves on shore from your hotel room even if you are not facing the ocean. They are going some work, which is needed as the decor in some of the rooms is dated.

"A Nice Hotel, going through Remodeling Pains"
Nice hotel, located directly on the beach. Positives? Away from the Waikiki crowds. Negatives? Away from eating places outside of the hotel's 2 dressy restaurants and small bar. The hotel is also going through a major renovation at this time (June 2014). If you plan on being in your room beyond 9am in the mornings (during the week) beware. Renovation work starts around 9am, meaning that loud Jack Hammer and drill sounds can resonate through the hotel's concrete walls, and feels like you are inside a ringing bell. Other than that, the "Modest" hotel rooms are very comfortable, especially if you are traveling by yourself. If you are a couple traveling together then a "Standard" (or bigger) room is more advisable. No room on the floor, or in the closet of a "Modest" room, to accommodate two pieces of standard size luggage. About the hotel restaurants, we ate dinner the Miyako, the Chef Special Prefix dinner was excellent. We also breakfast at The Hau Tree Lanai, the ambience was beautiful, the food was average, and the service was very spotty (had to ask for coffee refill and water after waiting patiently for refills).

"Avoid if there are other options"
Hotel desk personnel barely spoke English, assigned a room next to construction zone, when other rooms away from the construction, were available. Pneumatic hammers ran from 7 AM until 6 PM, and they didn't provide hearing protection! ;-) Room was very small, decorated in the 70s, and bathroom plumbing didn't work. Internet speed was very very slow. All-in-all this would be better than living out on the street, but for the price, you could rent a van and sleep in it.

"On the Ocean"
We had a suite and didn't realize we had a low end suite. It was a very small room with a refrigerator. It met our needs since we weren't in the room much and we were in Waikiki for the beach and water. Nice park right next to the hotel and we loved the Honolulu Zoo. We had our car parked there for 3 nights and didn't use it once. However upon checkout we were charged per night for parking. I don't like surprises so I wish I would have known.

The room I got was a closet converted to a room. I had stayed here for the past 5 years. I didn't know rooms this small even existed. The first morning after my shower my towel had a wad of hair. "always a relaxing stay"
I have stayed at the New Otani several times now and it continues to be my favorite hotel in Waikiki. It is quiet, but still close enough to Waikiki and my favorite bar (Tiki's), with easy access to the freeway and minimal Waikiki traffic. The staff is always friendly, the rooms are always clean, and the beach right next to the hotel is the best on Waikiki. I have stayed in other hotels in Waikiki for business, and none have compared to the New Otani for its location or quiet island atmosphere.

"Nice Little Hotel on Beach - quiet"
I have been staying here on and off for the last 20 years. I love this hotel and recognize the staff that continue to work there. The hotel does not have a pool and the rooms are small but it is a very good value. It is on a family beach and I prefer the ocean to a pool any day. "a unique Honolulu hotel"
We have been coming back to the New Otani for almost 30 years and it never disappoints. It is not part of the Waikiki scene. We enjoy the beach just out the lobby door for our dawn swim. We enjoy walking around Diamond Head and the Kapiolani park with all its little neighborhood eateries. This hotel is very popular with sophisticated Japanese adults. The Hau Tree lanai restaurant and bar are very charming. The rooms overlooking the park and Diamond Head are very good value and very pleasant.

A comfortable hotel in a SUPER location. Away from the hassles of Waikiki but close enough for nightlife etc., right next to the beach park. And what a wonderful view of Diamondhead! The staff was amazingly friendly. The restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast. The AC systems need a good cleaning - we had to change rooms due to the black mold build up in one of the systems. "Disappointed with Room Air Conditioning"
We spent 5 nights. The hotel staff was very nice, friendly and accommodating which was the best feature of this hotel. The worst was the room A/C. Thermostat didn't function at all. I had to get up several times during the night to turn on/off and/or open the window to manually control the room temperature and humidity. Our room was just above the trash bin, so the nice ocean breathe often invited in filthy smell as well. The Christmas and New Year special course dinners offered by the first-floor restaurant were not at all good ideas. Too much food and too expensive for the most hotel guests. Good location. The spa and the Japanese restaurant on the second floor offer outstanding quality.

"what a location ! walk right out to the beach."
All of the staff was very friendly. With the beach out 1 side and the park on the other it's easy to just walk out and enjoy the day. Quieter than being right on Waikiki Beach, but close enough to walk to what ended up being our favorite place for breakfast ( cheeseburger in paradise). We spent time at the bar in the lobby area and Gerry and Patti took very good care of us. We were a party of 9 and we all had a great time.

For the first three nights in Hawaii, I stayed a bit further up the beach. Then I moved down here and got a nicer room in a much more laid back location. The room was very great, the food was fun and the beach less crowded. Even the valet parking was nice and the park across the road was pretty.

"Average hotel, good location."
It was nice to be out of the Waikiki crowd. Hotel was fine, nothing special. Small rooms, boring entry, lobby, weak lounge, etc. My biggest complaint with the hotel, and hassle of Waikiki overall, is dining. This is an eight or nine story hotel. Dining options were very limited. The Hau Tree (very nice outdoor seating next to the beach) was simply too small to accommodate the number of guests. I think there were maybe 15 tables. There was a line of 30 people every morning waiting for breakfast. Lunch was the same. For dinner, there is a Sushi place, but they were serving a fixed menu (one option through the holidays). The lounge was really lame. The hotel was clean, hotel staff was fine. The overriding factor that increases the score is that you are in Hawaii. I mean, how bad can it be?

"Nothing new about the New Otani"
While the lobby and restaurant were very pleasant spaces, our room felt like it was stuck in the 1980's in terms of decor. Everything in the room felt tired. Also there was no coffee or hot pot or information on room service in our room. We had to go out to get a cup of coffee, which isn't how we like to start our day. On the plus side the staff at reception and the valet parking staff were very friendly and helpful.

"Great location in Honolulu"
This hotel is in a great location at the quiet end of the beach and park. 15 minutes walk along the park and you're in the heart of Waikiki. And Sans Souci beach is a gem -- protected but with good access for swimmers and paddle boarders alike. We stayed in the 'Diamond Head Wing' which is a bit older and doesn't have many of the updated fixtures you will find in the main hotel building. What the room did have is a small kitchen (microwave and refrigerator) which made our stay much more relaxed and independent. Windows looked out onto the beachfront park and the Waikiki waterfront in the distance. We have stayed here many times, and will look forward to visiting again.

"Close to Waikiki, but not too close!"
We chose this hotel because it is close to the beach we like, San Souci. Our room was small but comfortable, with a large lanai. We did not have an ocean view but could see the ocean if we leaned out. It is super quiet there, a lot of the Waikiki hotels are so noisy with the activity on the streets below. This hotel is not new, has not been updated on a while. You could mostly see this in the bathroom, but it was all real nice, just not new. There are two restaurants. We ate at Ha'u Tree. It was pricey but delicious. If you want to eat breakfast there you have to make reservations at least a day in advance , but it's worth it!
