The hotel is located at the end of the Waikiki strip, which is nice if you don't mind walking. The hotel also has a nice beach, which is essentially empty compared to the rest of the strip. However, the rooms were very small, the shower pressure was weak, and the building we were in had no elevator...Lugging suitcases up a narrow staircase is not fun! […] I recommend this hotel if you want to lay on the beach and occasionally stroll into the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. If you prefer to be in the middle of everything, this isn't the hotel for you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Surprised. I will say this upfront: this review is based ENTIRELY on the annex section of the hotel. The location of the hotel is wonderful; off the main strip in Waikiki, beautiful beach, but if you and your ladyfriend/family/whatever think about staying here, make sure you get a room in the renovated/remodeled section of the hotel because the annex […] is horrible! My girlfriend and I thought all the rooms looked like ones on the website which is gorgeous. However, when we arrived were told our room was in the annex section, at first we did not receive a room w king size bed as reserved--my girlfriend was so upset! We only stayed one night since United so graciously forced us to miss a flight and then delayed our luggage. The annex section rooms are small, wallpaper was peeling, ac is blowing right on your head...get the picture? One desk agent even joked about the annex rooms being overpriced for what you could get in Waikiki proper. So, just beware of what room you're getting! Thankfully, an Expedia agent helped us secure a room at a nicer hotel for the remainder of our trip. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"beyond the maddening crowd"
Location, location, location. Works in hotels as well as other real estate. Great spot beyond the acquarium for beaching with snorkeling in front of hotel, beautiful Diamond Head views. Most beautiful restaurant on beach.. international/Japanese feel to the hotel. Small rooms, but comfortable and quiet.Genuine Expedia guest review
We really enjoyed staying at the New Otani, and as our stay progressed, we came to realize it's in the perfect location if you plan to stay on the west side. It's away from the busy-touristy feeling of downtown waikiki, but so close you can easily take a really peaceful beautiful walk to the heart of waikiki whenever you want. Our room was smaller than […] we expected, and we didn't get a king as expected, but it was very clean and the Ocean Supreme (ocean and waikiki) view was really really nice. The breakfasts were really very good (we didn't eat dinner there because it was so expensive). We would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outside of Waikiki, small rooms."
Great hotel, but the room was very small. A little frustrating that we "had" to pay for valet parking everyday. It was rather far from the heart of Waikiki so walking in everyday became a bit tiresome. Loved the basically private beach!Genuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel ,quite yet close to all the amenities, our room was the upgraded version in the main hotel, great views. We upgraded from the studio room which was old , dark and creepy.Breakfast was included and it was delicious!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff of the New Otani went above and beyond to make our stay great. They kept our luggage in a locked closet for the day. They even let us use a room to shower after we checked out before our flight home. A+ Service. The concierge was extremely helpful advising us on local attractions and how to best get there. Great place to stay and a beautiful […] beach right out back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great access to beach"
Paid for room with diamond head view...first room had no view at all and also had no working hot water. They did fix the water issue promptly and also moved us to a room with a better view for the second night. Front desk staff very pleasant, however bar and restaurant staff not friendly at all; they acted annoyed that we were there- not one smile during […] the two occasions we ate there. Loved the location, slightly removed from the loudness of the main Waikiki strip and great beach area right outside the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Calm location for those who don't mind long walks"
My room was clean but the shower drain was not working properly. Also there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom so humidity from showers and unpleasant smells go into the room. The location is a bit far from Waikiki and the main shopping areas and to get there at night you have to walk for 15 minutes through a park where shady looking characters are […] hanging out. I'm not sure a woman would feel safe walking there alone at night. If you don't mind the long walk the location was nice because it was away from all the activity and noise of the main Waikiki area. Great location away from the madhouse of central Waikiki. Restaurant is quite good. Are those really the trees that RL Stevenson sat under? For a splurge dine at Michelle's next door.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Use caution when booking at this hotel."
If you are going to this hotel, there is a reason that some of the prices are cheap. To get the cheap prices you get the 1960's part of the hotel which seriously needs updated inclucing the Pink counters in the bathroom. We reserved the "Diamond Head View" room when we made the reservation and were put in the "Park View" room that was in the '60s section. The […] Diamond Head View rooms are in the new section of the hotel and were filled with foreign customers. Use caution when reserving rooms at this hotel, yea they are cheaper than the Resort Hotels but you don't get the benefits of having a luxury room. The rooms in this hotel are small and the carpet had large stains on the floor and was extremely dirty. If you didn't have the screen door to the balcony open, the bathroom exhaust fan sucked dirt under the entrance door along with everything else in the hallway. The screen door was continually falling off the track and was hard to open and close. The only benefit to the room that we had was that we had a partial ocean view and they had feather pillows upon request. Going cheap is not an option when going to Hawaii. "Pick another hotel"
The only thing this hotel has working in its favor, is the proximity to the beach. Aside from that, this is the WORST hotel on the island. It is nothing like it said on the Internet.Genuine Expedia guest review
Although there were certainly exceptions, overall the hotel staff were not especially helpful or friendly. I remember this hotel from many years ago when I lived on Oahu , and I remember a stronger sense of Aloha. I was disappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"All the hotel you'll need to discover paradise!"
Nestled at the end of the wakkiki strip, buffered by a park, on an amazing beach and coral reef within swimming distance. The refurbished room cost more and was well worth the price. The absolute best part of the hotel stay was the staff, who were friendly and helpful at every request.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Get a refurnished room..."
The refurbished room which I eventually negotiated for and paid more for was very nice but the originally assigend room was small dark and looked to have been furnished out of a Goodwill thrift shop.Genuine Expedia guest review
The first 4 nights were spent in a moderate room, which was the size of a closet. There was a false fire alarm at 6am one day. They ran out of beach towels. We had to leave the hotel one night, for drinks, because the entertainer in the lobby was so awful. The front desk staff were very hard to communicate with because of language barriers. We asked […] for an upgrade but didn't receive one until the last 2 nights of our stay. We spoke to Orlando, who was the front desk mgr.. He was very cooperative and was able to upgrade us to an ocean view deluxe and he gave us a discount. It was an amazing view and a great room. I wish we had had this room from the beginning! I would stay here again, only if I had the higher priced room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Why a title??"
We had a great view and it was a plus being outside the Waikiki area. I also appreciated the complementary breakfast, served in beautiful setting. However, there were definite negatives: 1) front desk personnel not welcoming 2) parking fee of $23/ day seems awfully steep, 3) bathroom did not have solid door and since room quite small, no escaping bathroom […] noises. except to go out on balcony. "Quiet Boutique Hotel"
The New Otani Kaimana Hotel is a small boutique hotel on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki by the aquarium and Kapiolani park. We have stayed here for over 30 years. The location is quiet, but you can walk into Waikiki easily. The beach, San Souci, is beautiful with calm aqua blue waters. There is a great small outdoor restaurant, the Hau Tree Terace […] right off the beach. The hotel is friendly, quiet and very Hawaiian. BTW they serve excellent Mai Tais in the bar. That being said.....we could only get a room in the annex which is a side arm of the hotel over looking the park. There is no elevator and you must walk up 3 floors. Even that might be okay, but our room was tired and in need of upgrading. I still love this hotel, but will never accept an annex room again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Best Little Hotel in Waikiki"
We stayed at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel which is a few hundred yards south of the Waikiki Aquarium and across the street from Kapiolani Park. It is a small hotel, only 9 floors high. It sits on the beach and was sooo relaxing. The staff and the valet parking attendants were all excellent. The room had a great view of the ocean and the city lights […] of Waikiki. It was nice and quiet with only the sound of the waves to be heard. It was a short walk to the Aquarium, the Zoo and to Waikiki proper. The beach in front of the Hotel was perfect and the Hotel even provided beach towels and mats. Would we stay there again? In a heartbeat! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We stayed here for two days and the room was a little small but nice and clean. What we loved most was it was close to the shops but far enough from the crowds of Waikiki. "Nice hotel but disappointed with the old room."
I have stayed at this hotel before and like it because its relatively small and in a quiet area of Waikiki, not a party place. The hotel's restaurant, the Hau Tree Lanai, has been excellent in the past and I always recommend it to people since I live here in Oahu. The food is pricy, but its excellent and its location on the beach is one of the most […] romantic places to watch the sunset. (Ask for reservations under the tree.) Most of the hotel is quite nice, however, on this stay we were put in the older wing of the hotel and it was a totally different place. The room seemed clean enough although the floor looked dirty at the entry. But the room was old and outdated. I expected small, because the rooms in this hotel are generally small, but I didn't expect the screen door slider to not work well. I didn't expect the pink corian bath fixtures which had been in place at least since the eighties. There was no elevator to the room, so we had to trudge up 3 floors. My wife's computer wouldn't work well with the hotel's wireless system. We had pupu's in the bar, and the cheese on the nachos wasn't melted. Next time, I'd pay more and stay in a better room, or stay in another hotel. However, it did have a nice view of the beach and the water. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Enjoyed our stay."
The staff was very accomedating. We enjoyed our stay at the Otani hotel. We jogged in the park every morning which is right across the street from the hotel. The beach is nice, right out in front of the hotel. Wikiki is within walking distance from the hotel, about 10 mins. The vallet service was handy. We would stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, "suites" may not be suites"
Great hotel to be away from the noise and chaos of Waikiki. But, "suite" in the old wing (Room 208 at least) is simply a small bedroom with a kitchenette in the entryway. Suite implies a separate room or at least area, and this one did not have that. Still, a great hotel at a great price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"4 out of 5"
Our bathroom door wouldn't lock, this was ok because it was just my wife and I but i could see how this would be annoying if sharing a room. Although we didn't have a water leak problem, the people underneath our room did, we found out when the service man came over to check our bathroom. Ballet parking is quite pricey, $23 per day, luckily parking […] wasnt really an issue because of the ample parking on the street. "Wonderful boutique hotel"
Great location and great restaurant. Room clean but small. Staff was friendly. My third stay there. Highly recommended.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was great - the location is wonderful slightly out of the way from the main beach area and stores, which I really liked with easy beach access. The only downside was the air-conditioners - the staff would turn them off and they would also turn off on their own while in the room so it would get a bit warm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what we expected"
We booked our vacation through expedia based on the recommendations. The hotel was not what we expected, but this was partly our own fault. We booked a diamond head view room which did have a view of some of diamond head and if you leaned way over the balcony you could see a small patch of ocean. The rest of the view was the parking lot, main street, […] and the air conditioners for the building next door. The air conditioners were so loud, you could not sit on the lanai. We arrived late at night (after missing our flight because of weather delays). The room was extremely small (basically the bed with a walkway around it), carpeting was dirty, there was mold on the ceiling and walls in the bathroom, and the overall appearance was worn. I contacted expedia first thing in the morning and was able to move to another hotel, expedia was very helpful although it was an expensive change! I admittedly did not talk with the hotel personnel to change rooms or voice my concerns as the hotel itself was not what I came to Hawaii for. I believe an ocean view or better room may have been a different experience, but the property just did not fit our needs or expectations. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"small rooms the only draw back of this hotel"
The staff was very very nice. This was an older hotel, it was generally in nice condition. I found out that a "moderate" room is very small. Closet was very tiny, not a lot of room for guests staying 9 days. There was very limited drawer space for clothes. It would be alright for one person. "24 years later we visit our honeymoon spot"
The view is excellent. Their is NO pool, which we wished for. It's a walk from central tourist action....we liked that. Their is a natural reef about 30 yards off the shore....excellent for snorkling. The rooms are small; we upgraded to a delux and it was very tiny. The bathroom is so small you can't open the door while sitting. THe deal with the breakfest […] was great.....as was the meal itself. Would we go back? Probably not! The KING sized bed was actually two doubles pushed together. NOT comfortable. AND....a small coffee pot would be SO nice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The ambiance of the reception area and the attached restaurant is good. However,The room had a weird odor as soon as we entered. The shower was so pathetic!! Water was clogging in the tub!! "New Otani Hotel Waikiki Beach."
We very much enjoyed our stay at the New Otani hotel over the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The hotel is wonderfully situated at the quiet end of Waikiki, on a beautiful beach with an offshore reef and lots of opportunities for snorkeling and swimming. The hotel operates a delightful, highly rated, restaurant, The Hau tree lanai, situated right […] on the beach and under an ancient spreading hau tree where we enjoyed complimentary breakfasts; they are noted for their diverse creation of eggs Benedict. We made much use of the complimentary Wi-Fi and national and international newspapers. There were only two negative sides to our stay: firstly, while we made reservations for breakfast we were requently kept waiting 30 to 45 min. for a table. Okay, it was Christmas, they were very busy and the staff were very pleasant. We complained and it seemed to help. Secondly, while the restaurant bar and lounge areas are all well maintained, the corridors and stairwells to our guestroom showed evidence of heavy usage and were a real eyesore. However, the beach location and restaurant more than made up for these shortfalls. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable place to stay for a week in Waikiki"
Bed was comfortable. Air conditioner blew over the bed and gave me a sore throat. Toilet ran. Faucets squealed. Paint on ceiling peeling. Paint on bathroom door was peeling. Coffee pot made plastic tasting coffee. Maid service was good. Staff was pleasant. Location is good. Nicely decorated for Christmas.Genuine Expedia guest review
It's a tad staid, and some of the appointments could use updating (in progress, I'm told), but the bones are good, the location fantastic and the attitude attentive, relaxed and friendly. Quiet compared to the hullaballoo down the pike in Waikiki. No bachelor parties here! There's a nice little reef for snorkeling, the beach is kid-friendly, with surfing […] and paddle-boarding opportunities further out. Kapiolani Park is across the street, the zoo, the aquarium, and tennis a short walk away. You can leave a car with valet parking, park for peanuts at the meters across the street, or for nothing along the park's periphery. Love this little hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Small affordable room at the base of Diamondhead"
If you want Waikiki, then you should stay at a hotel in Waikiki. The "New" Otani is not new and the rooms are at least half the size of a regular hotel room. The hotel is on a public beach, so don't expect much privacy either. The best part of this hotel is the price, but they'll charge you $25 a night more for parking so factor that in as well. It's […] a 10-15 minute walk to Waikiki and all the shops there. If you want a nice getaway with lots more privacy, stay at Turtle Bay on the north shore. You'll need a car rental, but you're close to amazing surfing, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and the kids can even enjoy the little water slide into the pool. "An old hotel trying to hang in there. It charges for everything!"
This hotel is a long walk from Waikiki. People who stay there might choose it because of the comparatively low rate but they get nickeled and dimed for basic things that run up the eventual per day cost. It's seen its better days; it's even a little depressing!Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice, clean hotel that provides everything you need including an excellent restaurant. We're so glad we stayed on the quiet side of Waikiki.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Want to make this one a frequent visit"
We enjoy the extreme aloha served up by every person that works at the New Otani. Nowhere else in Honolulu has 100% of the employees with a great attitude and sincerely happy outlook toward its visitors. We walked to Waikiki every day, rented paddle boards right at the hotel and were able to paddle out right in our own "back yard". The Hau Tree Lanai […] became a favorite for us. We bought a package deal that included a free full breakfast every day and spent several nights there for dinner as well. This is a favorite spot for us and we visit even if we don't stay there for our entire trip. If a room is available on the beach front, we will choose that hotel every time.
