If this was my first experience at a La Quinta, it would be my last. Not a good example for this chain. Very old. Beds comfy. Nice TV. Pieces coming off bathroom door. Room door sticks....hard to open and close.

The room was clean and comfortable. It did not seem like my door was fully secured even when it was. I very much liked having the mini fridge in the room. There were several chain breakfast places within walking distance and one Mexican place but that was all the food places that where very close. On the positve side; it was somewhat convenient and the beds were comfortable; breakfast adequate for a easy and quick type of motel meal; the pool looked great, but heater was broke; the grounds excellent, beatiful gardens and pet friendly. The first room had ceiling crumbling and falling, bathroom had mold (YES it did) coming through the paint used […] to cover it. Carpet torn and caught on the door when opening, upon check in there were no towels, soap or anything and the shower had not been cleaned. Also the bathroom area wall had hand prints, and just overall not cleaned; the second room was much better. We were on our way to Tucson for our yearly trip to see family. I picked this hotel because of the ratings they had. Most of what I experienced was as advertised, but we weren't given the type of bed we reserved, a king, when we checked in. Instead they only had a room with two doubles. At the check-in desk the gentleman who helped us, Pete, said that […] there were rooms with kings in them, but they hadn't been cleaned. Which I found interesting because the hotel looked full that night and the hotel management should have seen the existing reservations for that evening and made sure the rooms needed for that night were cleaned. I do have to say that the room was nice enough and the bed was one of the most comfortable ones in a hotel we've slept on in a long time. Negative reviews were exaggerated. Certainly not the Marriott, but a nice "economic" hotel to stay at. Did not see one homeless person or vagrant. Good inexpensive restaurants in the area.

Spent two nights at La Quinta Bakersfield in March, got exactly the accomodations that I asked for (ground floor, smoking). My very large golden retriever was very pleased to find that there was a large, grassy field in the rear of the motel, where he could wander at will. The hotel is just off freeway (after 1 u-turn if northbound).Pet friendly,clean room,nice staff,good stay - 1 nite. The area has a large homeless population, but security did a good job and felt secure while on hotel property, off hotel property a bit "scetchy". La Quinta and staff did a good job. I was very pleased with the fact La Quinta is pet friendly as we were moving across the country with a dog and two cats. That being said, we were very disappointed with the room overall. The door had to be slammed to latch and the latch did not work like it should. The bathroom floor was not very clean, nor was the shower. The tile and grout really […] showed their age and gave a dirty appearance. The TV was not correctly connected and did not work at first. I called the front desk and was advised to try disconnecting the power and then reconnecting it. That would not have worked, except I found the HDMI cable was not connected. The hotel was great "standard", the staff was GREAT. However the homeless people in the immediate area was disgusting. River-bed right behind the hotel and they were coming and going all night long. Every time I left the room there was a transient asking for "spare change". If I were a female or a "timid" man, could have been "Intimidating".

This hotel should not be mistaken as a luxury hotel experience but it is very clean with rooms a little larger than basic square footage and a better than average breakfast option. The hotel was not up to La Quinta standards! The halls were very dirty. Thee carpet in the room needed to be cleaned. The towels were very thin and of poor quility. The hot water went out 4 times while I was showering! It went completely cold and down to a trickle. It had to be turned off and back on to get the water hot again! I had requested a mini […] frig. At check-in I waqs told that if I wanted the refrig I would have to wait an additional two hours to check-in to my room. Not a good experience!!! Read more

Not up to La Quinta standards. Old motel in a seedy neighborhood. An apparent housing project is across the street. Project tenants and other street people wandered through the motel parking lot, to and from convenience stores and fast food. Did not feel very secure. Perhaps a fence and/or uniformed security presense would help. Lobby is nicely decorated, […] open and inviting. The room was large, clean and comfortable and the bed comfortable, but... the non smoking room smelled of cig smoke (readily obvious to the maintenance man who sprayed the room on request. shouldn't housekeeping noticed and rectified the problem prior to our arrival?)...the sink drained slowly and drain stopper was removed (again, shouldn't housekeeping have noticed?)...the shower head was at eye level (the tub may have been replaced with a higher/taller profile model). We were fortunate to be in Bakersfield in May during an exceptionally cool weekend. The outside temperature was quite comfortably lower than the indoor temperature - our AC unit wasn't blowing air at all, and in spite of calling it in to have service on it, it was never fixed. They also advertise that they include 'complimentary wifi' on the hotel and […] we were on the third floor, almost directly East of the lobby and had no connection. Neighboring hotels and business SSIDs could be seen, but they were all secured. We later found out that there was an access point in the room next to us, but it was not properly configured to get to web resources, rendering it useless. The room itself was very spacious and almost felt too open, or space wasn't utilized well. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom, so steam was a problem as well. Read more

First of all, the woman who greeted us at reception was very friendly and very efficient. She got us in and out in no time, got us our keys and gave us all the information we needed on the hotel - time for breakfast, where the pool was, etc. The breakfast was better than expected - make-your-own waffles, fresh fruit, and friendly staff.
