"Convenient acces to our event"
The air conditioner in our room was not working properly, had it turned down to the max and it was still warm and humid in our room. It was so humid the carpeting was damp. The location was fine, breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast, but the time spent in my room was horrible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worked for us"
Our stay was enjoyable for the most part but there are a few things that didn't live up to up to expectations. The mattresses were very uncomfortable and there was a strong smell in the lobby/hallways. Our room was clean but the bathroom was VERY small (door almost hits the stool). Room was updated and well taken care of. Though the staff was pretty […] friendly I am not sure we would stay again. It was also VEISHA weekend so we took what we could get. "Average hotel, below average hot tub"
The hot tub was very small only holding three adults. The paint was peeling and chipped around it, there was a strong chemical smell, and it was the perfect size that should be in each room. My son and I filled the tub with little room to spare. I booked this hotel because they had a hot tub but I had no idea it was this small. The pool looked nice […] but we did not use it. The paint on the door going out of the pool area was peeling and looked rusted out. The hotel is dated. The walls need some paint and some wall paper was peeling. The bathroom was small and took some effort to maneuver around inside of it. The room was clean, though, and I thought the beds were comfortable. The alarm clock was the easiest hotel alarm clock I have ever used. The breakfast is fantastic. I had just started a wheat-free diet and they had eggs and sausage. They also had cereals, toast, pastries, and waffles. My son and I both found plenty to eat. This hotel is about 10 minutes from the school. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Near Interstate Highway"
While most attributes were at least tolerable, it is far from a two star experience. The Hot Tub was not work during our three day stay! The staff was notified numerous times, never did see any type of maintenance crew. I have stayed at much better sites, at the same or lower rates. MANY other hotels are located within walking distance of this facility. […] Our next trip will utilize one of those. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Alarm clock was on at 12am!"
The room was nice and clean, the service was fine and breakfast was decent but the alarm clock was on at 12am and that really put a damper on our night experience! I would also make one remark concerning the coffee machine in the room. At a time when we are becoming increasingly aware of the SERIOUS need to reduce our waste, each room in this hotel […] is equiped with a coffee machine that includes a disposable plastic tray for each cup of coffee! This is insane and unnecessary! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient but not wonderful"
The location was great as we were going to visit Thomas the Train. However, their were spider webs above our shower in one room and the other room's shower didn't drain well. The hot tub smelled like B.O. rather than chlorine and there wasn't an elevator which made it very difficult to get all of our luggage to the second floor. Tables in the breakfast […] area were nice. Breakfast was good and organized well. Overall, an okay stay, but could've been better, especially for the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Our first room was right next to the pool and we could hear everythign through the wall. I was traveling with an infant so napping wouldn't have been easy. When I asked to move the clerk was not helpful at all and very begrudgingly moved us. The second room was much small, had no fridge, and reeked of smoke. I'm used to hotel beds not being very comfortable, […] but this one was so awful. I woke up all night with an aching back. The pillows were super lumpy. There was no place to sit at breakfast. Overall, I was VERY disappointed in my stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The kids enjoyed the pool, but it was freezing cold. The hot tub was small but nice. The continental breakfast was a very good one. The price was a little high. The room looked nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needed a Bed"
Wife found a roach in bathroom and carpet in room was very sticky. I have stayed there before and was very happy. Checked in late so really nothing that could be done. Full hotel. Slept and immediately left.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quality of Hotel"
Bath area in the room was VERY small. Air conditioner had trouble keeping room cool and curtain hangs over air vent adding to the problem. Room rather dark - not warm and cozy. Wedding reception area was very HOT - they had trouble keeping a reasonable cool temperature. Breakfast lacking.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Worst Ever Stayed In"
Was scheduled to stay 2 nights but left after 1. Could not get in regular hotel we stay in so booked this thinking Comfort Inn should be okay. NOT....Dirty, outdated, smelled, no elevator. Will never return!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I made reservations here based on previous ratings, but was very disappointed. The highlight was the breakfast which is as stated, but the beds were very uncomfortable! My back/neck ached so bad in the morning I rose early too get in the hot tub to work out the kinks only to find the pool area would not open until 8am. When it finally did open the hot […] tub was anything but hot! It was actually cooler than the pool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Got what I paid for."
No frills hotel, but wasn't expecting it to be either. I was just looking for a nice, clean place to lay my head overnight with my family. No complaints there...room was well maintained, pillows were comfortable and the free breakfast was just what we needed to start our day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Easy access when passing through Ames"
Hotel was clean. They advertise hot breakfast - but it is just sausage and preformed egg circles that are zapped in a microwave. Likely good for a business traveler that stops for coffee and juice on the way out of the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The stay was ok, the hotel is in need of remodeling, although it was clean, just gave that out of date feeling. The pool / hot tub was very clean but had very strong chlorine smell that left eyes burning before we got in. It was game nite, so the price was steep for the room, so if we needed a room it would not be our first choice, but would stay if […] needed a night in Ames. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was okay - it was clean, but dark and felt very "old" - towels thin, etc. For a quick night it was just fine - but if any longer, I'd pay a bit more and get a nicer place. Location was fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good night's sleep for overnight stay"
The pre-pay online was very convenient. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. There was a slight cleaning fluid smell when we entered the room, but that went away. The air conditioner was somewhat noisy. The staff was friendly and took care of us quickly. Overall, our experience was good for a one-night stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to the sights we went to see...."

"We had an excellent stay!"
We were in town for the weekend at a BB tournament. The hotel was very convenient, great beds, great breakfast and affordable!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great breakfast! Nice pool area and comfortable rooms... But the halls smell smokey and the rooms are very dated. The value for the price we paid was right on though. We just stayed here for one night because it was the halfway point during our roadtrip.. and it was fine but I would probably not stay if it was for a family vacation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place to stay for a family"
We booked online a two-day stay only, because we were not sure about the quality of the hotel. We came from Europe and our flight from Chigago to Des Moines was canceled, so we could not get to this hotel at the first day. I called and they kept our room reserved for us till we arrived, which was really nice. Kids liked the pool a lot. The breakfest […] was more than we could imagine, and the location was just perfect for us, so we decided to stay a whole week in this hotel. I can warmly recommend to anyone coming to Ames.. Greeted with " members" registration gift. Popcorn, snickers, bottled water. Had a suite, big leather recliner and leather loveseat. Flat screen tvs, mini frigerator, microwave. Huge tile bathroom. Breakfast was awesome. Scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits and sausage gravy. Great place to stay.
"Whitest towels and smooooothest sheets...and good beds !!!"
02/12/14 Howard G West Bend, Iowa
The beds are comfy, the SHEETS ARE SO SMOOTH, and the towels are so WHITE AND FLUFFY. (they do their own laundry. The rooms are clean and there is no dirt around the edges of the carpeting.) We stay here when attending Iowa State University and meetings in Ames. Des Moines is 30 minutes away. The pool is clean and the hot tub soothing. Staff is friendly and helpful; and, the hot breakfast is appreciated.. The free newspaper is a nice touch. . (They even called us and told us when the heater was out in the pool-- because I do my water aerobics there! WHAT A NICE TOUCH!) Howard & Ann this is an older motel, but the ownership is working to make it a better place!
"Thought Comfort Inns were better than this one."
12/31/13 OsageHighlander Camdenton
Comfort Inn is supposed to be higher up in the Choice Hotel hierarchy- musty odor in all public spaces- well-used room in college town. Adequate at best. Moved to Econolodge for better featured, cleaner room on the 2nd day. Nearly empty hotel with no elevator on Christmas Eve- but still placed upstairs as far away from anything.
"Unclean rooms, Odd layout, Unhelpful staff"
10/20/13 Inkapaul Gainesville, FL
I regularly stay at Comfort Inns, and I was very disappointed with my experience here. I arrived at the hotel after a two-and-a-half hour drive, and the woman at the registration desk told me that there was no restroom for guest use. I did the bathroom-dance in the lobby waiting for another party to check in before it was my turn. (I debated leaving to find somewhere nearby to use the restroom.) After checking in that group, the clerk offered to let me use the staff restroom. (Why didn't she offer that in the first place? "Insurance reasons.") The room was a fine size, and the best were comfortable, but the room was not clean. The carpet appeared dirty, and there was very obvious black mold in the bathroom, and the finish was missing on several parts of the bathtub. The ceiling was also peeling, with pieces of paint/texture hanging from the ceiling. When I checked out in the morning, the clerk seemed shocked that there was mold in the bathroom. (Either he was faking it or the cleaning crew is doing a poor job keeping administration informed.) During my stay, I passed three different clerks in the lobby, and I was never greeted by any of them. (Not even a smile or nod of the head to acknowledge me.) I had plans for breakfast with friends, so I didn't stay for the continental breakfast. I did go into the very small breakfast area to get a piece of fruit for my drive home, but I didn't eat my apple because it looked like the fruit wasn't washed before being put out. Gross.
"Sept. 21, 2013"
09/24/13 Nikric Eagle Grove, Iowa, United States
We will probably not stay at this hotel again. Our sons room on the second floor had sticky carpet. Like pop, juice, whatever was not cleaned up. Our room had black mood growing on the baseboard in the bathroom, on the grab bar at the tub and above the bath. The breakfast was ok. I question the pool area and wondered how clean it was. The hall carpets appeared to be dirty. When I talked to the manager re: these issues he said it is hard to keep good help. I would not stay there again. The desk attendant when we registered was very nice. Breakfast area is way too small.
"Nice Hotel clean Staff could be better trained"
09/24/13 tjungroth Minneapolis, Minnesota
stayed here for the first time Sept 2013. This is a nice clean hotel right off 35W. El Azteca mexican restaurant across the street was great. staff when checking in did not go out of the way to help. asked for an upgrade and before she even looked said I know we can't do that. Being a choice Platinum member I know she could have at least pretended to look. then when she did find my name asked about my stay. just very short I will stay again and hope that staff is better trained.

Like other reviews this place is average clean close to interstate we did not hear road noise from our room and it was facing road. The price was good for when we stayed the Iowa state fair was going on so many of other places were full or at a very high rate. The only bad thing i could think of this place is breakfast area is VERY small only 4-5 tables
"Ok but nothing special"
07/08/13 dennish414 Okemos, Michigan
Hey its a normal Comfort Inn. They had rooms when it seemed like everything else in town was full. Not my first choice but it was ok for one night. Next to the Interstate and could hear the road noise somewhat. Not much to say since I was only in the room for 6 hours. Staff person was pleasant and knew their job well. Check in was quick.
"OK, but nothing great"
06/27/13 elpeters Iowa
The motel is OK but wouldn't stay again. The location is good, it does have a pool and breakfast, and it isn't filthy. But the entire place smells musty, floors were sticky, rooms not that clean, and pool area needs maintenance. Desk attendant at check-in was not very friendly or approachable. There are several nicer hotels in the area for the same price or better, so i would stay elsewhere.
"Great room -great price!"
06/14/13 mro201 Waterloo, Iowa
I travel alot for business & leisure. I usually shy away from Comfort Inns-but all hotels in the area were sold out. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Rooms were in good condition & clean. Beds were very comfortable. Hotel was in good condition. Staff was very attentive, friendly & professional. There were a group of high school kids staying there also. When someone checking in next to me made a comment about the kids causing alot of noise. The desk staff person informed them that the chaperones had asked the front desk to notify them if the kids got too loud and they would take care of it. The high school kids were not a problem.
