Its old... bed sucked...no guest shop... housekeeping threw our tooth brushes away and replaced it with just one... valet broke one of our window sun shades and didn't bother to mention it... the bar is extremely expensive... all n all it just wasn't worth the moneyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The only thing that can be improved is the condition of carpets; otherwise its an excellent hotelGenuine Expedia guest review
"History and luxury and a great location"
The 1920-built, thoroughly renovated US Grant (developed by the President's son) is steps away from both the downtown business area and the Gaslight District. It is also directly across the street from the upscale Horton Plaza mall. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and top quality details. The public areas are all gleaming marble with period details. "Grand hotel with friendly staff"
The location is nice. Walking distance to Gaslamp busy streets and Petco park but a little bit away from the noise. Hotel lobby is very grand with marble and chandelier. The room is comfortable but I do wish the comforter can be better quality. There is no pool in the hotel which is not common for a big hotel like this, but u can access the pool in […] hotel across the street with the room key. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient to Downtown/Gaslight District."
It's a great location for a first time visitor to San Diego, especially if you want to be in the Gaslight district, walkable to many restaurants and clubs. If you're looking for the beach, head out to Coronado. The room we had was dark (looked out on an alley, with no light). The bathroom was cramped, and in our case the toilet kept running unless you […] opened the lid and reset the flapper. There was no hand held shower, and a very weak flow of water from the shower head. My biggest pet peeve was the lack of a bedside table on both sides of the bed. I had to drag a chair over to my side for a place to set my Kindle and bottle of water. The lobby bar was good, and the parking was efficient (although not cheap). If it had been less expensive I wouldn't be as harsh. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Luxury hotel in Gaslamp"
Great hotel in Gaslamp Quarter. Convenient location within easy walking distance to bars and clubs. Top-notch service. Valet parking is expensive but is excellently staffed. Great concierge as well. Breakfast tip: check out the crepes at nearby Elixir Expresso Bar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Service was really terrific -- super courteous, helpful, pleasantly conversational. Our room was really clean, beautiful, very comfortable and cozy with a lovely view of downtown. Overall a terrific experience. I would definitely return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a very nice, older hotel at the edge of the historic Gaslamp district. It is a very nice alternative to the new luxury hotels on the waterfront, and is yet within walking distance of the Convention Center. The staff was excellent, and it has both a Starbucks and Panera's just across the street.Genuine Expedia guest review
Stayed one night, wish I could have stayed longer. Hotel is beautiful and in a great location. Room was perfect. Bed was very comfy; slept great. Hotel staff was very accommodating. Definitely recommend this hotel. I will be back!Genuine Expedia guest review
"If you love comfort, this is it!"
We were visiting friends and wanted to stay somewhere special. This hotel has a wonderful staff, their restaurant and bar are outstanding, and our room was very comfortable. The whole hotel is beautiful and gives you a peaceful feeling.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best hotel in downtown"
Good stay. Carpets need replacement in hallway & rooms. The room could be cleaner for a 5 star. I noticed dust on frames and hair that was not ours on pillow. Very noisy area off street with such low floor. I had thoughts that there was gun fire & riots outside because so loud. Be prepared to handle the large amounts of homeless people.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everyone there could not do enough for us. It was a pleasure!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice. SD is a fun place to be."
The carpets in hallways are badly stained. Tell people to visit the Werewolf at 6th & Market.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel in the grand style of the golden age of this country but with all the modern amenities. Great staff that all seemed to know my name from the moment I arrived. Great location. No complaints at all. I will definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent service, historic rooms!"
Bogdan, the receptionist last Saturday was just amazing. He asked me the purpose of the visit and i just told him we just got married a few hours ago and voila.... he upgraded us into a suite without questions asked! now that is top-notch service! we did not even ask for any upgrades or whatsoever but he certainly exceeded expectations. i wish every […] hotel staff are like Bogdan, and this guy deserves a good raise as he takes his job seriously and puts his guests first above anything else. The hotel itself is very nice, has its own mystique and charm. i would definitely stay here again without a doubt! The location, the rooms, the accessibility is just a must. One of the nice "old-style" hotel, with great comfort, pleasant bar and music..Genuine Expedia guest review
"Unique hotel, in the heart of downtown."
Only negative comment is in regard to the very uncomfortable pillows which went completely flat and provided no support. Please consider a variety of types, including firm foam options. And, the only bed covering besides the top sheet, is the VERY heavy duvet which was too much...too heavy...too hot, etc. Please consider putting a blanket in the room […] for those who'd like one. "Itty- bitty room"
Grossly overpriced for what we got. Had a fridge we couldn't use, no in room coffee. The only saving grace of this hotel was the amazing staff. Every encounter was wonderful and made the room we had worth the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice location. If you don't need in and out privileges park at the NBC building for $10/day vs $40 at the hotel. Sink was clogged.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My only complaint would be the cost of valet parking. It is an exquisit hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I stayed at the US Grant for only one night, a week ago. We were very impressed with the lobby and the room. I had booked a Deluxe room but due to delays were upgraded to a suite with a living room. The décor in the room is really cozy and the bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Just walking distance from the Gaslamp. […] The turndown service at night was a new experience. I would definitely stay there again. Not sure if its for kids because it has no pool for them to play in, but a really great experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We splurged for a local New Year's eve get away with some frienda and booked a suite for the pre-party festivities. The suite was big and had the added bonus of having a separate room for the bedroom. While the decor of the room was great and the bathroom was recently renovated, there were a number of maintenance issues with the room. This included […] stains on the carpet and furniture as well as rips in the blinds. These items were fairly minor and did not affect our stay. The staff was very helpful, and we overall had a great stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful historic hotel in heart of gaslamp quarter. We were able to walk from the hotel to the Balboa theater where we went to the x-mas concert. We also had dinner at a nearby restaurant again in walking distance. Will definitely stay there again. Only negative was that the art gallery is not open on Sundays.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best Anniversary Get Away"
Love this hotel! The staff is wonderful, and so helpful. They made our stay very special! The history, of this hotel is amazing. The lobby is classy and of high starndards. The room was beautiful, as well as top notch. We would like to come back. "Great hotel, terrible sleep"
The hotel was beautiful, service was amazing and overall a great hotel, but I'm a light sleeper and that was probably the worse night of sleep I've had in a long time. "Nicest in San Diego"
The hotel is wonderful, nicely appointed rooms & beds; at their restaurant Grant Grill, I had the best Holiday Mixology Dinner ever, as well as great Benedict eggs & croissants the next day for breakfast. The staff is efficient and courteous.Genuine Expedia guest review

"No Bang for the Buck"
Paying for parking at a high end hotel is crazy. Given that the hotel is a 4 Star - Wifi or internet in the rooms is additional cost and parking is $39 per night. Room was small and the carpet was dirty. Wouldn't stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"In the heart of Gas Lamp District"
It was nice to come back at night to chocolates on our pillows with the bed turned down and bottled water. The television distorted the picture. We were given a tour of the hotel from the penthouse to the ballrooms and was truly amazing! The staff was always very cordial.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"5* all the way except for ONE THING"
in a king sized room, you CANNOT BLACK OUT THE ROOM, if daytime sleep is important for you and a need to black out... do not come here. the bathroom door is glass and the bathroom window beams in bright sun all day!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice place, would stay here again with no doubt. Older (historic feeling) property, but well maintianed and nice rooms. good carpet, marble floor and counters. Clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Top Notch Accomodations"
My girlfriends and I stayed here for a one night staycation. The location was fabulous as reservations for dinner was made directly across the street at Spike Africas and the clubs are a short 0.4 miles from the hotel. Valet is $39 and checking in was a breeze. Super comfortable beds and I love the fact that they have turn down service. Slippers were […] laid out, bottled water was provided on the night stand and chocolates on the pillow. Unfortynately, I forgot something in my room and I have yet to receive a return call. Was great staying at the US grant close to trolly lines to get places. Also Gaslamp District right there for great night life.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to everything downtown"
I was surprised by how spacious the room was. Usually downtown san diego hotel rooms try to fit you into such a small space but this hotel offered much more. Very clean hotel sad I didn't get to check out the amenities though. Would stay at again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Everything about this hotel was 5 stars except the "security" incident. Security knocks on our door until we open it in the middle of the night waking us up stating he had complaints of loud noise.... He said "i've been standing outside your door for 20 mins and I didn't hear anything"..... Not sure why he needed to wake us up to tell us that. "Missed the mark"
My favorite thing about this hotel was the Grill restaurant. I ordered my favorite, the Rib Eye. I know this cut of meat is supposed to be fatty. But this one I got was about 75% fat. I told my server, he agreed. He took it away and brought me the full bill. No offer to fix the problem. I will not return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Can't Be A 5 Star"
The room was filthy, big stains on the chair, greasy fingerprints on the wall and ceiling.Genuine Expedia guest review
The decor and cleanliness were outstanding. Lots of nice touches such as a paper hanging on your door in the am & bed turn down at night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was beautiful however there was entirely too much noise coming from the upstairs, possibly s laundry room orcustodial room that prevented me from getting any sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Loved the hotel, location and room!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the stay very nice, friendly people. valet parking @$38.00 was not mentioned on line--a bit much. we had dinner at the Grant Grill. food was good but very fru-fru and not much of it. the music in the bar lounge was just o.k. all in all it was GOOD ANNIVERSARY, and the hotel has a wonderful history.lGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The US Grant is a beautiful hotel maintained with care and run with professionalism. We stayed in a legacy suite (they gave us a free upgrade from the premier suite i had booked). The room was a bit small with no view, but well-appointed. I think there are very competitive nearby hotels for the price, but my wife and I definitely enjoyed our stay at […] the Grant and will probably be back some time! "Depends what you are looking for"
So my wife and I are a little difficult to please, I am a stickler for details and convenience while me wife is a neat freak... That being said it is hard to imagine a more beautiful and inviting hotel lobby and if that is your thing than you will truly love this place. the lobby is gorgeous. However when we got to the 3rd floor the hallways were very […] dark, and the carpets had water stains everywhere. The staff was pretty good but not a 5 star staff at all. overall the location and the fact that we were only there for the night made the stay OK but not nearly as good as some of the other places that we have stayed.
