"Tired and needs updating"
Hotel needs to be updated. Very old and tired looking. Restaurants are great and have excellent foodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Our room (#835) had an epic sunset! And the Fletcher's pepperoni pizza was really good and extinguished the 10:00pm hunger! Probably one of the most formal, yet casual hotels we've stayed at. Will definitely be returning at some point.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Thought i was getting a suite and it was just a regular room. Will not stay there again it's way over rated. Was a gift for my boyfriend whom i proposed to an i was not very impressed with the room. Would of been nice if there was a jacuzzi in the room and complimentary wine or something. It was his birthday as well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I booked this hotel for Valentine's Day. It was overpriced and overall a big disappointment. It was obviously an older hotel that had not been updated in a very long time. We were nickel and dimed, there was one ice machine in our tower (not on our floor) and we were unable to find the ice bucket (we found it later in a cabinet) and there […] were no vending machines. We had to pay room service to deliver soda and glasses of soda. We asked the room service gentleman where we could purchase soda and he advised that they only were provided through room service which of course was pricy and then we also had to provide a gratuity. The bed was quite uncomfortable. We paid more for this hotel then we typically spend when we stay in Anchorage (we stay 6-8 times a year)but wanted it to be a special evening, this was one of our worst stays in Anchorage and I will not stay there again. "NOT for FAMILY"
This hotel is NOT designed to accommodate families. The pool hours "for kids" are 10:00am to 9:00pm. The room was old and small. It was just decent not super nice like I expected. AND be ready to PAY out the nose for parking. $30 per night. I will never stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice overall. I don't usually comment on amenities, but the toilet sounded like a jet engine. We thought the use of the pool was included in the price of the room, but I was asked to pay $5 to get in - this charge was later reversed, but seemed a little odd.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Alaskan price guide."
The service was excellent but the price was outrageous....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Service was good. Upgraded to a suite. Maid service intruded into room at one point and was very awkward. Otherwise, easy stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Captain Cook misrepresented itself."
Very disappointing, Hotel misrepresented itself on website. Thought I would treat myself on Christmas. Before booking on Hotels.com (they are wonderful!) I doubled check with the front desk, I wanted an airport shuttle, workout room and pool. Which is on their site. When I arrived on Christmas eve. I was told they do NOT have an airport shuttle, when […] I arrived at hotel. I found out the workout room and pool is only opened until 2pm AND their is a fee. When I complained because I did ask before booking, I was told, It's Not our website, and we are a private company so OH well....... By the way rooms are outdated very small t.v's ..Not worth the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This may be an older hotel, but clean and the staff is great. You can walk to great restaurants and shops. Love staying here. Plus you can't beat the ocean view.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We found a woman's use false eyelash in our bedding the first night we were there. Didn't report it, but hopefully it doesn't happen again. This hotel is one where my family stays, so I would hope we don't get scared off again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Parking too much"

"Final days in the Great Land -"
This was our last "hurrah" in Anchorage as we bid adieu to the Great Land. Accommodations were, for some reason, difficult to come by in the waning weeks of October. We desperately needed a place to hang our hats as our household goods were all being packed up! We found a reasonable rate at Hotel Captain Cook and booked it. The room was very nice and […] comfortable. The Fletcher restaurant was above average, but difficult to get a seat at (sort of small) and we did not have "smart-casual" clothing for the other hotel restaurant. This is a Fantastic Hotel , get the one bedroom suite , In Room Dinning is really superb. Location is perfect. A Classic Spot.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location but hotel needs updates"
I expected a nicer room for the cost and based on the hotel rating. My junior suite was very tired and in desperate need of redecorating; other than the tub, toilet and sheets, everything was some shade of brown - and not in a pleasant, monochromatic way. All the furnishings looked shabby, and the carpet and wallpaper were stained. The sofa was incredibly […] uncomfortable, but at least the bed was very comfortable. The service was personable and pleasant, and I appreciated that. This is a convenient hotel for day trips as both companies I used for trips use the hotel as a regular pick-up location. Loved the hotel and it's location. Easy walk to restaurants and shops. Fabulous food at the hotel restaurants and the service was great. Loved the smoked salmon and arichoke dip and believe the crab cakes to be the best and biggest we've ever had. Easy parking and conveniently located shops in the hotel that were budget friendly and had unique items. […] Didn't get to try the spa, but definately will on our next stay here. MY WIFE AND I STAYED AT THE CAPTAIN COOK HOTEL AND HAD A WONDERFUL PRE-CRUISE STAY. VERY CLOSE TO EVERYTHING. CAN WALK IN 10 MINUTES OR LESS.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Captain Cook"
A great hotel in downtown Anchorage with very comfortable rooms, friendly service and great shops and restaurants. The doorman had the door open for us when we were still halfway to the entrance. We arrived at the elevator after a bellman with a full load of suitcases had just summoned it. He insisted we go first and he took the next elevator. The concierge […] gave us great advice to take a cab to the airport instead of an airport shuttle because it was faster and cheaper (and he was right)! When I questioned a charge for a movie, the receptionist immediately removed the charge when we checked out. The service was outstanding! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel, comfortable bed, amazing restaurant upstairs (Crow's Nest); best meal we had during our trip to Alaska. Superb seafood dishes and wonderful service. Service in the cafe downstairs was some of the worst I've ever seen and surprising given the overall quality of the hotel. During our breakfast there was a constant line of people waiting to […] be seated and half the tables in the restuarant were empty but filled with dirty dishes. They had 2 busboys working so I'm not sure how this was possible, but they were the slowest moving people I've ever seen. The waiters and waitresses took more dishes to the back than they did. We weren't in a hurry so this didn't really bother us, just comical to watch. Replace the management in the Cafe and there would be nothing about this hotel to complain about. "End of an Alaska cruise trip"
We stayed at Captain Cook because of its proximity to the Tony Knowles hiking trail, but it was raining so we couldn't hike as planned.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel in Anchorage downtown"
We stayed just for one night, a stop point between Seward and Denali. Overall, excellent hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"nice hotel great location"
we stayed at the hotel for 2 nights on aug 14-15. we found it conveniently located in the downtown anchorage location. it was easy to walk to all the main attractions around the area. the service was excellent and the rooms were clean. we would recommend it to friends and family visiting Anchorage AK.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dated facility, so-so service, not so clean"
We flew into Anchorage for just one night for a friends birthday party. We stopped by the hotel to see if our room was ready and were told to come back at 3pm. When we came back at 3pm we were told to come back at 4pm. I insisted that we check in and oh look, they found a clean room. Miracle. We had to order a roll away bed for the others in our party […] because the hide-a-bed matress was disgustingly stained. Overall we were ill impressed. The other hotel we stayed at previously was much nicer and alot less dated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Our overall stay at Captain Cook was great, the hotel y very nice and the location is great. The mattresses to my opinion are too soft and couldn't rest very well. I've also asked for a late check out and they didn't grant it.Genuine Expedia guest review
Really enjoyed the stayGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Some Good Some Bad"
Had to move from the first room because of possible bugs in bed, but they moved us very quickly which was nice. Second room had used coffee cups, which was disappointing. The concierge who was on duty when we first got there didn't seem interested in helping us book a trip or ordering the van pick up to the airport. There were to many things he said […] for the amount of room I have here. He also told us to take a cab to the airport. The shops in the hotel were nice and the restaurants upscale. Both I thought were far more upscale than the hotel. As far as the location, it was on the main street but at the very far end. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Anchorage cruise terminus."
My only complaint is the bathroom design. No door separating the sink area from the sleeping area - therefore unable to allow wife to sleep in the early morning. Tub/shower is very small and could use a bow-type curtain rod for space.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"attractive downtown hotel"
I was upgraded to a large suite on the 11th floor, with commanding views of downtown Anchorage and the Chugach Mountains to the east. Arrived too late for dinner, and the following night the Crow's Nest was closed for a private party, so I ate at a nearby restaurant, of which there are many within close walking distance.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is very old school; the decor dark and seems from another era. A couple of automatic doors would be great but the massive doors goes with the decor. The staff is very friendly, the hotel clean and you can't beat the location. Close to parks, the visitors center, museums; it was a good place to stay. Best seafood chowder in Anchorage!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old and crowded but still the best in Anchorage"
The hotel is quite dated, and incredibly crowded, but it's still the best hotel in town. Great downtown location, lots of restaurants in the hotel and nearby, good amenities. Having said that, it is totally packed during the summer. So if you want to avoid the madding crowds, opt for something else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lost in 1979"
Non-smoking room had old smoking smell to it. No vending machines or self serve laundry we're big disappointments for someone arriving late and with some laundry to do before a cruise. If I went to Anchorage again, I think I would choose the Sheraton.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Middle of the road"
The hotel has a great location but is a little tired and could use a facelift. The staff was very nice but on a price/performance basis you could probably do better. Would stay there again but would not go out of my way to do so.Genuine Expedia guest review
While the waves of tour ship guests ebbing and flowing through the lobby may seem a negative I have always thought it part of the attraction of this constantly reliable hotel. Restaurants always great with a wide selection of local fish and seafood. And you can't top the convenient down town location . Easy walking to museum, shops and restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient and close to downtown"
Loved the comfortable bed and quiet room. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was beautiful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A great hotel, finally"
I've felt very let down touring around Alaska and finding accommodation dingy, in need of renovation, overpriced, and sometimes downright misleading. But I came across the captain cook and it was perfect. Clean, spacious, excellent service. Not a single thing was wrong, not once did I feel misled, ripped off or let down. Of course you want it to be […] cheaper, everyone wants that, but it's the best stay I've had in Alaska in two weeks of traveling. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
