I love this hotel. Usually it is out of my price range but I am frequently in Iindianapolis and when they have a good rate, I grab it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Disappointed in our room. The accomodations we have had in the past didn't feel quite so cramped. The bathroom was very small. Given all the new choices of hotels, and the price, would probably check out more options.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Over all good experience. Hotel cleaning staff walked in the next morning while was in bed."
Loved the night life and shops close to hotel. Can tell it is an older hotel but maintained well. Was walked in on staff as was still in bed, thought had checked out.Genuine Expedia guest review

"An attractive and well-maintained classic"
The common rooms and my own room were in excellent shape: a very attractive, small (now often called "boutique") hotel in the center of downtown Indianapolis. My room was small as was the bathroom, but both were confortable and quite adequate for one person. The food was excellent for dinner (sea bass) and breakfast (standard eggs, toast, bacon, and […] potatoes) and the bar was very congenial. The concierge parking was less expensive and far more prompt than at the larger and newer hotels. Many fine restaurants are within a block or two. It was raining, and I chose to eat in the hotel dining room which was as elegant as when I dined there fifteen years (or more ) ago. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not as nice as I expected"
Service and location were excellent. I was dissappointed with how the hotel was maintained. I realize that this is an old property, but in light of this management would be wise to attend to details such as chipped paint and mirrors. Lack of attention to these details stole the charm from the property and left it with a feeling of disrepair. Tiny exercise […] room with two very old pieces of equipment and an outdated t.v. that didn't work at all. A little tlc would go a long way. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
What a jewel; luxurious and comfortable. Only regrets are missing coffeemaker and microwave in room (a boon for room service, of course.)Genuine Expedia guest review
This is a fantastic hotel that lives up to its reputation for personalized service in a great location. One of the better ones I've been to in a while.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Canterbury Hotel was perfect for me who was traveling alone in Indianapolis for the first time. It is about five blocks from the Convention Center and the stadiums which is great for walking in the daytime. In early morning I took a cab there for about $6. The hotel is attached to a small mall that is a nice distraction after a day at a conference. […] Lots of eating places in a variety of price ranges very close to the hotel. I didn't feel comfortable going out alone at night in this vicinity. The hotel staff was very helpful. The facility was sparkling clean and welcoming. The bed extremely comfy. My suggestion would be to update the wallpaper, etc. and add a business desk. However, the price was half the cost of some of the other hotels in the area and included free wireless unlike some of the pricier hotels. Be prepared for steep parking prices throughout the city. I would definitely return. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
My husband and I wanted to stay in downtown Indy for our anniversary and I chose your hotel. We were completely satisfied with everything. I have recommended this hotel to my friends and will probably do it again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best Hotel in Indianapolis - will be back!"
I stayed here for 5 night whilest attending a national meeting at the convention center. The green airport shuttle dropped us off almost at the front door of the Canterbury Hotel at a fraction of the taxi fare. 1 1/2 blocks walk to the convention center could not have been more convenient. The mall and dozens of great restaurants are within 5 minutes […] walk. The room was spotless, the personnel was very professional and friendly. Great in-house restaurant and cozy bar. This Hotel reminds me of the many exclusive historical hotels in Europe. I will be back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Visit the 1800s"
Great hotel. Built in 1850. Fully renovated while keeping the charm of the 1800s, with beautiful antiques throughout. Within walking distance of everything you need for wonderful trip: excellent food, fine brewery, live entertainment, convenient shopping, Indy's convention center, and their stadium. Really couldn't have been better!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very good experience"
All of the staff was friendly & helpful. An old, plush hotel but in very good condition. Very good experience. Very short walk to Convention Center. Only drawback was that the room was small.Genuine Expedia guest review
"As lovely as expected"
I had worked at another hotel in the area & had always heard of the Canterbury. I was excited to finally get a chance to stay there. The person at the front desk when I checked in - had actually worked at the previous hotel with me. How nice to be greeted by a familiar face! The room was lovely! My training class was 3 1/2 blocks away - so it was a […] very nice walk. Then with the mall entrance connected to the hotel - it was very easy to meet a friend for dinner. I highly recommend this hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel room is in desperate need of remodeling. Lobby authentic. Room looks 1985. Bathroom 1976. Sheets 1906. Wifi did not work. Carpet in bathroom was disgusting. No desk. Not a business hotel. Round table in room was broken.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Canterbury Hotel in indianapolis"
When I made my reserevation online I thought I was getting the room I want, but when I arrived I was put in a room that I really did not want. the second night I got another room that my wife loved at No additional cost. and now she wants to go back next weekend and stay in room 606 that she loved.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was in Indianapolis for a conference. The hotel was in a great location, which worked out well for me. I did not stay at the hotel except to sleep, so I cannot comment on the amenities.Genuine Expedia guest review
""Will stay there again!""
We were very pleased with this hotel. GREAT price for a hotel in downtown Indy especially on a holiday weekend. Includes a great breakfast in the AM but be prepared to get up early on a Sunday (7-9 for breakfast). The rooms had just been remodeled and were beautiful and very comfortable. The one thing we really liked was that it is right next door to […] St. Elmo's Steakhouse-one of the best restaurants in Indy. The only thing we would want to change would be the cost for parking. My wife and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. I booked the hotel for few reasons besides the average reviews it had. 1) Dedicated access to Circle Center Mall, so being in the middle of all snow, it wasn't a bad idea to have everything linked together wity minimum outdoor walking. 2) Our reservation at St. Elmo's for the dinner which is right next door to the hotel. Other than that, it was a very average stay. Hotel is so-called "Botique Hotel" but very run down, from rooms, bathrooms and lobby. The Service was still great from all the staff. I am now glad that it's going to be a Starwood Property because they'll re-do it all and make it a very nice play to stay.
"BEWARE: The hotel is closing in mid December. Nobody CARES about you."
11/23/13 AlphaJohn Evansville, Indiana
For the price point... you will be terribly disappointed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. This place looks great on a post card but with the staff knowing that they are all out of a job come mid-December, you better pack your own food, water, wine, snacks, glassware, light bulbs, extension cords, pillows and blankets. You WILL need all or some of them before your stay is over. Oh and you better put a locator chip on your car because they will probably misplace it as well. They did mine... twice - in one visit. Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

I was unaware that the hotel was to be closed in December (stayed there late October/early November). The property will be closed and gutted as I understand it. As a result, it's a little rough around the edges right now. Victoria at the bar/restaurant was fabulous. Front desk staff was professional, responsive, and helpful. No glasses in the rooms...just shrink-wrapped plastic cups. Yuck. I think my nightly rate was about $179. That was too much. $129 would be more appropriate.
"Cute, Classy and Centrally Located"
10/29/13 Abiku Chicago
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely overnight at the Canterbury Hotel. We had a special event to attend that evening and our centrally-located accommodations allowed us to make the most of our "date night" without the kids. The entire staff, from the front desk to the waiters to the valet, were pleasant and helpful. The restaurant/bar was featuring an outstanding young jazz trio fronted by a fantastic young woman on the sax. What a pleasant surprise! Our room, a Queen, was beautifully appointed with a two-poster bed and a shower of pillows, an oversize mirrored armoire and lovely side tables. The bathroom was fine, not fancy, but certainly clean. My only complaints about the room were 1) there was not enough light, perhaps due to the fact that one of the lamps was not working, and 2) there was no coffee maker in the room. Other than these details, our stay was absolutely delightful and after an exciting night out, we were able to tumble in to a cozy, comfortable bed and get a great night's sleep. On the way out, we were sad to hear that the hotel would soon be closing. I hope this is not true. After such a great time there, I really hope that we may be able to return.
"Not good at all"
10/28/13 racheal b Illinois City, Illinois
One night at the hotel and I and my little one had nasal congestions. This hotel has polite staff members but the room just had a bed and TV, we had no coffee maker, no tea bag, no refrigerator, no microwave, no room service. I had take my little one's milk to the refrigerator in the restaurant. It was a bad experience, we had no place to park except their valet service which was $31.03 plus tax, and they also charged house keeping tax of $10 and some cents. Got a deal of $109 from Expedia never knew i'll be paying $150. It really isn't a place to go except you need a place to just lay your head at night and don't seem to care about comfort.
10/26/13 BoomerOttawa_Ontario Ottawa, Ontario
I gave this property a great review a number of months ago but unfortunately my recent stay has wiped that out. The hotel was recently sold and is going be closing for a major renovation in mid December. The only reason I've given this a fAir rating was because the front desk and bar staff were still great. The hotel restaurant is now only open for dinner. So no breakfast other than bad free coffee in the lobby. The hotel was not clean as well. I left. Wine glass outside my room on both nights and they were never removed - still there when I left on noon on Friday. This was a nice quaint property and hopefully some of the charm will return once they complete the renovation. In the meantime I will find another property to hang my hat as the hotel should advise travelers that they're winding down earlier than the December closing.

The hotel is in a good location in Downtown Indianapolis, it's very close to the exhibition center which was perfect for me, there are lots of great places to eat nearby, I thought the hotel was great value, free wifi with good connection speed. Good friendly staff, nice clean rooms. If you are in town on business for a few days what more can you ask for? Will 100% be staying here next time I'm in town.
"past its prime"
10/09/13 Dee M Chicago, Illinois
The desk help was nice, but this Hotel is past its prime. The bed was soft, rooms small, everything old, towels thin. Don't go here if you are use to staying in a real four star hotel. The hotel is woefully understaffed.
"Welcoming hotel very near the convention center"
10/06/13 Darwin S Palatine, Illinois
This is a smaller hotel with a limited amount of rooms - but that being said you get a very welcoming feel from the staff and a hotel and rooms that have character. Great hotel location if you are in for business at the convention center. It missed a perfect five review because of a couple of small issues - my room was not ready until after 7pm on check-in (they told me that two of their housekeepers called in sick) and the satellite TV channels were hit & miss while I was there (might have been the weather though). They did comp my first drink at the bar for the trouble of not having a room at check-in. I would definitely stay here again - especially when compared to the big, expensive convention hotels all around this area. If you like a personal feel that you don't get in hotels much anymore - this place is a great spot to stay.
"Attractive, comfortable boutique hotel with classic charm."
10/01/13 bravojackie Prospect, KY
Hotel is an older, well preserved, attractive boutique hotel with classic charm. We had a special package for $129 for the night which gave you a late checkout of 3 p.m. and a $20 credit toward food purchased at their restaurant. Wanted breakfast but at 11:00 am., they said breakfast was over, even though we were the only people in the restaurant. Don't know anything about restaurant, but always seemed empty. The hotel room was small but nice. Pretty antique-like wooden furniture. Elegant, classic feel. Large flat screen TV. No ice machine, but they will deliver ice to your room. No coffee machine in your room, but, complimentary coffee in the morning until 10:30 am. Blower dryer, soaps and shampoo/conditioner in room. Quiet, comfortable. The best thing about this hotel is its location. It is right next to Elmo's Steak House, down the street from Lucas Oil Stadium, a few blocks from town center and the state house. There were many other eating establishments surrounding it. There is a Steak and Shake across the street, a California Pizza Kitchen next door, a Harry and Izzy's, Ram and a sushi bar to name a few and I read that Shapiro's deli was right down the street. The mall is right across the street. We parked the car and just walked. The valet parking is $29 and I'm told that parking without the valet is $20. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.
