"Staying in Indianapolis, Indiana"
Convenient to shopping, fine restaurants and public buses. Nicely appointed room but disappointed in lack of in room coffee/tea maker. Parking is $20 per 24/hr period if you self park and don't go in/out. Staff gave inaccurate info about cost of cabs and use of buses. It's easier to use buses and much less costly than cabs. Also got bad info about […] parking if you drive to Benjamin Harris house. Free parking there unless it's a very busy visitor time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Downtown Location"
This hotel has character! I liked being able to walk to everything downtown.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is a wonderful hotel; the only odd thing is that they provided shampoo and lotion, but no soap bar for the bathroom or for the shower. When we asked for soap they brought us a huge bar of Ivory soap (kind of felt like my mom was there, ready to scrub some stains out of something!).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs more Amenities"
Love this old hotel, great location, friendly staff but......no coffee maker or any other amenities in the room. Bed was not comfortable, no magazines about what to do in the area or even a TV channel guide.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great convenience! Great hotel!"
From the valet service to the convenient location to the room and staff, it was a great and all to short a stay. We will stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old World Charm"
The Canterbury Hotel is very charming and conveniently located to all the things you want to do in downtown Indianapolis - shopping, catching a game, going to a concert, and eating in a great restaurant. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms lovely. The room rates are very reasonable.Genuine Expedia guest review
Room was pretty small. There was no mini bar when the website stated there was, so we expected a fridge but there wasn't one. No complimentary breakfast either.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Short but excellent stay."
I was staying due to my husband being in the hospital. I enjoyed a nice dinner at their grill/restaurant and went back to my room to relax. Unfortunately, I had a small stroke and passed out. After I managed to get to bed and sleep, I noticed my pillow full of blood and called the front desk. They called 911 and got them into my room. I ended up in […] ICU for 4 days and a regular room for 1 day. After lots of brain scans and tests, I was released. The hotel had bagged all of my belongings (including an Ipad) and had them in security. They were awesome and very helpful to me and my family. The room was lovely and comfortable - could not have asked for more. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Service was outstanding"
The service was over the top. Convenience to the downtown district was perfect. The view from our room was less than wonderful but we didn't spend much time in the room. Did I mention excellent service?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Canterbury Hotel Indianapolis Thank you for staying with us and for your valued feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
"A gem downtown"
At check-in, the staff member behind the desk was distracted, disinterested, but efficient. After that contact? Everything was how it should be. The room was charming and intimate, the bar and restaurant had good service at a good price. One question, though: why no room service or amenities menu in the room?Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great experience, unique style"
So nice to see such a clean, fabulous, modern, unique hotel offering guests the opportunity to experience the opulence of an early 20th century luxury hotel. What a welcome change from the generic, cookie-cutter, find anywhere hotel room! I hope it never changes; it's charm is this uniqueness.Genuine Expedia guest review

Hotel met my needs. Front desk staff was very helpful with travel information. I was dismayed that the bar closed at 11:45 pm on a Saturday night. Prices in the restaurant were high.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The room was a nice size for us. But we were short towels and pillows. Fiasco next morning when we learned that the keys to a car were lost. They were found in one of the other cars. :-(Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quaint hotel perfectly located in downtown Indy"
The hotel was very cozy and inviting. The room was gorgeous and far from the modern day facilities. The bed was very comfortable as well as the other accommodations. There was not a coffee maker in the room which was an inconvenience. We only gave the room a mediocre review for comfort because the walls are very thin. We could hear everything from people […] coming off of the elevator and walking down the halls to the activities in the rooms on either side of us. This made it difficult to sleep although the bed was perfect! I would definitely stay in this hotel again but only if I requested a room far from the elevator and preferably with only one room connected. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

With $30 valet parking per day it makes the rate overpriced for the room. Room was very small. Give shampoo but no conditioner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Downtown Indy hotel"
The Canterbury Hotel in downtown Indianapolis is a very pleasant boutique hotel, well located adjacent to the Center City Mall. The accommodations were clean, bright and up to date. The hotel bar was small, but very well attended and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had missed our flight, went to hotels .com and found this great deal! When we told the check in girl about our situation she upgraded us to a suite! Great location too!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel for a short stay"
My wife, newborn, and I stayed for 2 nights. Although we enjoyed the hotel for this short stay, we likely would not stay again if it were a longer visit. The hotel is quaint (i.e., old, and a bit antiquated & tight), but we would likely stay somewhere more modern if it were our full family of 5. Got the job done, as we stayed downtown for both days […] & nights, and visited St. Elmo's for dinner (literally next door). Everything was very convenient, and we had complimentary valet parking for our stay through Expedia's VIP perks. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Said Yes to Canterbury"
Front desk staff outstandingly helpful late at night. Housekeeping ignored the DND sign on the door knob and woke us. Bed was tremendously uncomfortable. Hotel building itself has great character. Convenient location downtown, a short walk to Monument Circle and Lucas Oil Stadium. Must use valet for parking ($29/day) as there is no convenient alternative. […] Might stay there again, hoping Housekeeping's blunder wouldn't be repeated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Romantic beautiful older hotel"
Took my wife to the Canterbury for our 40th anniversary. The room was large and beautiful, the lobby is elegant and the staff was outstanding in every respect. They assisted in providing flowers, directions and even gave us a free upgrade to a larger suite to honor the occasion. It is adjacent to all the downtown attractions including shopping and fine […] dining, and is close to the Colts fieldhouse if you're going to a game. Very pleasant stay. "Nice hotel close to Lucas Oil, for DCI competition"
The hotel staff was incredible, and the manager Terri is the most friendly and helpful person. Loved her. HGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is ok in terms of the location and general appearance. A couple of lights were not working in my room. There were no items in the minibar at all. Front desk clerks are very friendly and helpful. Location is convenient to restaurants and convention center. The morning free coffee was pretty bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful old hotel. Needs a little facelift. Aside from the doorman, who were excellent, the rest of the staff seemed to just be going through the motions. I like to stay at local hotels, but will look someplace else next year.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pretty old hotel feeling"
This hotel was beautiful but there was no remote in our room and the "pastries for breakfast" they told us about did not exist... Coffee was awful as well... But overall it was nice but not worth the $220 it cost for a queen room... Many places downtown offer many perks... This hotel could have offered what it stated it offered...Genuine Expedia guest review
"too loud to sleep at night"
simply couldn't sleep well, since (1) between 3-5am, there was a regular loud cleaning or maintenance from the next-door steak restaurant, (2) around 4am, the truck always delivered the food to burger restaurant across the street. In addition, no coffeemaker, no air fan in bathroom, awkward bedding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel and location!"
Great hotel! We were so impressed with the area and the walking distance to so many great sights. Being connected to the mall was a real bonus! The hotel was great. The only complaint we had was the elevators were way too small (I'm not sure if 4 adults could fit in it) and it seemed to take a while before one would stop that wasn't full (especially […] of the cleaning ladies with their carts). "Nice hotel in the middle of the Circle City"
It was a very nice older hotel with easy access from the street or from inside Circle Center. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated. The only thing that was disappointing was that there's no vending machines, ice machine (though apparently a small bag of ice can be delivered, but ours never came) or in room coffee maker. A nice and affordable […] place to stay, but be sure to make plans for your morning coffee. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location of the hotel was excellent. It is in the heart of downtown Indianapolis and within walking distance to the stadium and a lot of bars and restaurants. However, staying on the 5th floor I felt like I was locked into a maze. My room, while it had a queen sized bed, was tiny, and I barely had any room to move around. There was no refrigerator […] which I would expect to have paying as much as I did for the room. There is also NO VENDING (ice, sodas, etc.) in the hotel so to get a little bag of ice for my room I had to wait for someone to bring it up to me which I thought was ridiculous. The parking situation is also very poor. Unless you want to pay for overnight parking in a parking lot (if they aren't full) you have to use their valet service, which was $40 per day, again, ridiculous. If you have plenty of money at your disposal and can afford a really nice room there (which I didn't get a chance to see), then this is your place. I took a deal on hotels.com for a room that was $170 and it was nowhere near worth that much at all. Overall I was very unimpressed and even shocked at the lack of amenities given the price. Perfect location. My wife and I stayed here to watch Chelsea FC vs Inter Milan in the International Cup soccer match. It is within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium. "Nice small hotel."
This is a nice "old style" hotel, quite different from the huge Westin, Mariott, and Hyatt hotels nearby. The rooms are decorated very tastefully. Things were a little worn around the edges, though not too bad. The staff was great and really seemed to make an effort to make us happy. I was very disappointed that they no longer had room service in the […] hotel, which apparently was started by new management in June. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The stay at the Canterbury was below par. They don't have coffee machines or any place to get coffee. They also have ice buckets but no ice machines. The sink leaked. The doormen were pleasant and courteous but were not always by the doors and we had a run in with a homeless man on the 11th floor who was running around the hotel. "Convenient and Historic"
Although downtown Indy can be hard to drive around, the hotel turned out to be conveniently located. Historic building that is well maintained and nice to be somewhere different than the "chains". Staff was attentive, friendly and efficient.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Fantastic location, older hotel, great staff, clean"
The staff was quite accommodating. There is a restaurant and lounge where they have live jazz on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The rooms are small and old, the elevator is NOT for the claustrophobic ! The only way to get ice is to call down to the front desk (I'm more a self-server). The location is spot-on! Right where you want to be downtown. We walked […] everywhere! Parking is valet or parking garage across the street. And the price is right through Hotels.com and they even upgraded us to the Penthouse Suite for free! I would definitely stay there again !
