"Dupont Circle - Great Location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 31, 2012
Excellent service. The gentleman at the door graciously helped me with my luggage. The desk staff was extremely welcoming and professional. The room was updated nicely. The location of the hotel is perfect...a wide range of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The metro is a block away as well. The room I was in was a bit small due to one of the two double beds blocking the entry but the awkward layout isn't too big a drawback. Be aware of the bright city lights if you have a street-facing room.

Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.

"Good deal except for parking..."
Our family was visiting the DC area in order to run the National Harbor Hot Chocolate15K and to visit the sights around DC. We checked into the hotel around 9:30 pm and checked out the following morning at 6:00 am. Our room was lovely, the staff great, and we even had a great deal on the room via Hotels.com; however, the cost of parking was outragous […] even for DC. For less an 12 hours, the cost of parking was $40.00. Meanwhile, there is a parking garage right beside the hotel with 24 hour parking for $20. Read more
"Great Experience"
I would definitely stay again at this hotel when visiting D.C. because of the location, clean rooms and guest services.
The hotel is excellent
"Great Except for the renovations"
The hotel was perfectly located and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. My only wish is that they hadn't been undergoing renovations as I had to attend several business meetings via my phone from my room during the day and the construction noise was very distracting.
"Professional Madison"
Very professional staff and courteous. Don't use their phone to make local calls, use your cell phone. They charge a dollar for every call you make. Also try to find parking on the street to save money from paying to park in the car garage next door.

"Split-Personality Hotel"
Took my family there for a few nights and I don't know exactly how to review the hotel. There were some very nice features and head scratchers. The good: - Location, close to the White House and all the attractions. - Comfortable, the beds were very comfortable - Staff, about 2/3 of the time the staff that we dealt with were outstanding The bad: - […] Construction, we were never told that there would be no water for much of the day due to construction - Hotel Directory, the hotel directory looked like something that my 7 year old put together as it was a few pieces of cardboard held together by a tie that you would use for a loaf of bread - Hotel Directory, the worst part of the hotel directory is that it included hotel features that the hotel didn't have. It mentioned a news stand/gift shop at lobby level and when my wife and daughter went to find it they were directed towards a CVS two blocks away, same for a ATM - Wake up Call, Luckily we woke up prior to the wakeup call anyway but each morning the call was anywhere from a half hour to an hour late - Other 1/3 of the staff, the other 1/3 of the staff that we encountered treated us as if we were bothering them just by being there - Ice/Vending, would have liked some sort of ice/vending area but there was nothing that we foundor that was mentioned in the hotel directory; asked a member of that 1/3 of the staff which I mentioned above about it was told to read the hotel directory and if it didn't mention if there must not be one (how this person is working in a service industry I have no idea) The biggest problems were no news stand or vending area. With having the family there it would have been nice to have that option to pick up a couplle things right there without having to walk to a nearby store in the middle of the night. The water issue was a problem when we checked in but didn't bother us the rest of the time as we worked out schedule around not being in the room during that period once we found out what was Read more

"Madison"
Overall it was a great stay. Everyone was friendly and helpful to the fact that it was our first time in the city. Negatives were the room was clean, but the bathroom could use some fixing, with missing parts of the tile and other spots in bathroom. Nothing major just things you notice while in there. Also, the charge for the valet parking is higher […] than some other local hotels, its a shame that we had no other choice but to pay for it since there was no where else to park. Read more

"Madison Hotel in DC"
I've stayed at the Madison on business, & was lucky to get a free upgrade to a corner suite on this pleasure trip. Staff is attentive but not intrusive, hotel is walking distance to some major sights, a Whole Foods market Dupont Circle, McPherson Square & the Metro. Very quiet & comfortable. The only reason it isn't an overall 5 is the extra charges […] for every little thing and very expensive business center. Read more
"Questionable hotel, kind of dirty"
My room was neat and looked cleaned until I pulled back the sheets. Found long blond hairs under the sheets, I can only quess they ran out of clean bedding. Never got clean bath towels for the 2nd days stay The coffee maker never work. Went down for breakfast, but they closed the restaurant early before 10am, Wasted a hour to get something to eat. […] We were only in DC for the day. Dinner wasn't much better, I ordered the pork belly as recommended by the waiter, it was a big piece if grilled fat, "I'm not kidding" a hunk of lard they called pork belly. We ordered two volka cocktails one on the rocks and the other shaken served in a stemed glass. There was a $4.00 difference in the price to shake the volka The next morning, we called room service for some coffee, the attendent on the phone don't understand I asked for a pot of coffee, kept on saying cup of coffee, after several attempts, I finely got him to confirm pot of coffee instead of a cup. Room service charge and tip was as much as the coffee... the restaurant was open that morning and all they serve is a buffet, since we got there about 10am the buffet was used up and not replenished, managed to find something to eat, and received the bill, $ 8.00 for coffee and juice, not included in the cost of the buffet. $60.00 for breakfast??...Let me say, I'm not one to complain about prices, but there seems to be some inconsitanciesy. Good location. Excellent service. Clean rooms. Breakfast in the lobby is quite delightful.
"Nice hotel. Would stay again."
In general, I was very pleased with the hotel in terms of location, quality and cleanliness of the room, and the helpfulness of the staff. I choose the hotel because it is pet friendly. My dog is getting older and I wanted to bring her along on this trip rather that put her in a kennel. She is not a big dog, but so many of these hotels that allow pets […] have a weight restriction that would only permit smaller breeds. (BE ADVISED TO ALWAYS CALL THE HOTEL DIRECTLY AND ASK ABOUT PET RESTRICTIONS WHICH ARE NOT ALWAYS SPECIFIED WHEN BOOKING ONLINE) Not so with the Madison. My dog's sixty pound-self (and her name is "Madison") was fine. The staff could not have been nicer and more welcoming. The room was wonderfully spacious - with enough room to set up her portable crate. (I was told that the pet must be in a crate if guests are leaving the animal in the room alone.) The room was like a mini-suite. Only complaint about the room- they need to get a better mattress. This one has seen its day. The only negatives to the hotel: The cost of parking is very high. I brought my computer but never got internet service because there was a charge for this also. I don't think it appropriate for a four star hotel to be charging for internet service when so many other hotels offer free wireless. I have dietary restrictions and like to being some of my own food. I wanted a fridge and microwave. There was a charge for each day, so I said "forget it." Again, this is standard in many hotels now. I've requested these items in other hotels and I have never been charged. Read more
"Madison in D.C. - This Hotel Just Doesn't Work"
The hotel is lovely - boutique feeling in a larger hotel. Nice luxury feeling. HOWEVER the restaurant is horrid, the "cafe" is horrid, too. It's not just that prices are over the top - the food is awful. In the main restaurant, we waited almost an hour for two entrees. The explanation was they were working out a few kinks. The restaurant was almost […] empty and it took a full hour to come up with a vegetable plate and some fish. Plus, the vegetable plate was almost inedible. So much salt half was uneaten. Their response, after I'd told them I was allergic to wheat and sugar was to offer me a free dessert to make up for the issues - a dessert of wheat and sugar. So if you avoid the food / restaurants you'll leave with more money in your pocket, you won't be annoyed, and you'll probably have a nice time in DC - unless, of course, you object to paying almost $50 a night for valet parking. My children left their pillows behind in the room when we checked out. I called the following day and left a message with Lost and Found. Unfortunately no one returned my call. Would otherwise i would have given service a 5.

"Madison Hotel"
THe Hotel was very nice and the location to the Metro was great. The people were very nice and helpful. Thank you.
"Excellent Location"
The hotel was awesome, the room was very clean the bed extremely comfortable. Access to WiFi. The breakfast buffet was sumptuous and the hotel staff knowledgeable and extremely courteous. From the wonderfully nice lady who cleaned the room, to the concierge to the front desk staff and the people who handled the luggage. The Madison is a first rate […] hotel! Read more

"Madison needs to upgrade the rooms!"
I was happy to get a room at the MADISON in DC but when i entered my room, the curtains had a black smoky film and the furniture was a little out dated. I wasn't at all comfortable. As a matter of fact, i asked for a room change because they gave me a room that smelled musty and not fresh at all and the view was the parking lot/loading and unloading […] area, not very pretty. The are where the hotel is situated is very loud as well, you can hear the morning trucks and the construction currently in progress. The feel of the hotel however is great, it feels solid and good quality but in my opinion, they need to upgrade to lux feel to reflect their prices. I hope this helps! Read more
"Great value"
Great value comfortable hotel in good and pretty convenient location for a total stranger to DC on a very short stay. Dining room evening meal was just superb and very reasonably priced. Friendly staff.

"Great"
The staff was more than helpful, extremely pleasant and professional. The restaurant food was small in selection, but very well prepared. I do not like having to pay for internet access, most especially at a high end hotel. It feels like I am being gouged for every small thing.

"Madison - Historical and Comfortable"
Overall a nice hotel, would stay at again. AWESOME water pressure, comfortable bedding, clean rooms. Convenient to restaurants, attractions and overall a good neighborhood. 10 minute walk to the Washington Monument. Hotel staff was very friendly.

"Madison in DC - Small, Dirty and under Renovation"
Wait until the Madison Hotel is renovated to visit. Rooms are too small for two people and hotel is run-down. Remodeling begins early in the morning. All extra services, such as internet, parking and breakfast are expensive. During our stay, phones did not work, TV was often out, as well as internet service.
"The First Time"
This was the first time that me and my family stayed at a 4.5 star hotel and it was very nice. The lobby was really beautiful along with the rooms and, the doormen were really helpful because we brought our Boxer on vacation with us. The only problem we had was that my dog refused to ride in the elevator. This meant we had to take the stairs up and […] down at least 3 time a day and the dog floor was on 7. To me, it would be more logical to make one of the lower floors the pet floor. 7 was right in the middle??? Other then that, we were very pleased. The White house was in fact a short walk away a the area around the hotel appeared to be very safe . Since the hotel was PET FRIENDLY my family did not think it was going to be as nice as it was, but they all said, "this is the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in" Read more
"Madison Hotel not that great."
They first tried to stick us with a king size bed. I requested two beds and had the paperwork to prove it. They still tried to put us in a king size bed but after showing them the paperwork they finally switched us. The room they gave us smelled and had an air conditioning unit that was loud. There are better hotels to stay at then the Madison.
"Great Boutique Experience"
Great rate and location for a boutique with personal attention and charm. The rooms are sizeable and well appointed. Walking to shopping or the Mall may be a longer stroll than other hotels but the hotel is close to K Street, some great restaurants, and just a taxi ride to most attractions.
"The Madison in DC - Lovely"
We stayed here while visiting a relative. The service was friendly and prompt, the room exceeded our expectations.

"WONDERFUL!"
After leaving a disgusting hotel in Arlington recommended by another site I decided to give this site a shot. It had recomended The Madison and I couldn't be more thankful. Not only was it only 40 dollars more than the other hotel it was stunning. Rooms were clean and beautifuly decorated. Perhaps a tiny bit dated but certainly no complaints here! […] The staff was very attentive and more than willing to help with whatever it was I needed. My only complaint would be the prices on valet and food. Being in it's location it's expected to pay quite a bit for services but the little things like in room coffee wasn't free did seem rather outragous. But those are minor things. I really enjoyed my stay and would stay again when I come to town. Read more
"Madison Hotel--Washington DC"
Staying at the Madison made my visit to DC very enjoyable. It is within easy walking distance of all the sites I wanted to see. The staff was great! Made us feel welcome and comfortable at all times.
The staff were especially friendly. Rooms were nice and a good size. Parking per night is a little expensive. It's a small thing, but there are no ice machines so you have to call down to the front desk for them to bring up ice.
"Great Hotel!"
The staff at the Madison was friendly and helpful. If you like to walk, this is a nice hotel to enjoy the sites. Would definitely stay here again.
