"Great location but new hotel ownership!"
I always do a ton of research before going on a trip as I did when I chose this hotel. I can't complain about much because the staff were great and went out of there way to make my stay as pleasant as possible. My only complaint (and this is huge for me) is that they have removed coffee makers from every room in the hotel that is not a suite. Apparently, […] this hotel changed ownership after I booked and decided to remove all coffee from the rooms. I drink coffee a few times a day so it was frustrating to have to go downstairs to get a cup of coffee every time I wanted it. The best part is that the Starbucks in the lobby closed at 3:00PM every day and randomly closed anytime before 3:00PM if they weren't able to get staff to work that day. The manager felt bad and gave me coffee vouchers to use at the Starbucks but it was always closed when I wanted to redeem them so it wasn't as useful as I initially thought. "Great place to stay while visiting DC"
This was a great location - right across the street from the National Geographic Museum. A short walk to metro underground and just around the corner from the metro bus system. "Nice location but..."
The hotel is tastefully decorated at the lobby level. It is also nicely situated in an area that is close to all museums, Dupont Circle, the White House, etc. We stayed in this hotel during Spring Break and the hotel was busy with many guests coming to town to see the cherry blossoms. "STAY SOMEPLACE ELSE"
From start to finish the stay was a total waste. While some of the staff with friendly, most were incompetent, bordering on rude. You do not get what you pay for here!! To start with we waited in a crowded line for 20 minutes to check in while the desk attendant explained all tourist activities to a befuddeled senior citizen. The room was cramped, even […] though it was listed as an upgrade, and the amenities nonexistent. The dining facilities were disorganized: the hostess left people standing for a long time when tables were empty, staff come to take orders numerous times, but cold cereal took 45 minutes to arrive. Parking is a complete rip off (over $60 a night, when tax is included, is not acceptable). I went to the Capella hotel in Georgetown for brunch while at the Madison and the difference in quality is dramatic. For the same price you get service, quality accommodations and exceptional food. We arrived at the Loews Madison Hotel at 11:30 PM with two kids. We had confirmed reservations through Expedia. The receptionist, who apparently was also the manager, told us that there are no double rooms for us and that all he has is a king room, but he has no idea where the kids would sleep, and he is sorry. My wife and I arrived late December, the weather outside was very cold. Unfortunately, the room was very cold as well as the staff. They were quick to repair, however, the heater was loud and the staff was still cold (tough the maintenance guy was nice). The concierge was stiff and not very helpful. If you want a quiet small hotel close to everything this is it.
