"Disappointing and Terrible experience"
Stayed in SF for a night meeting some friends and stayed at the Powell. The hotel facility itself is decent. Nice lobby and general areas. Staff is pretty friendly. A complimentary breakfast was an assortment of pastries and drinks. I was really disappointed with the condition of the room. The old carpet looked dingy and dirty. The paint was peeling […] off the walls in the bathroom. The vents were caked in dust. The bed was old and rackety. To top it off, the TV signal was so poor, all the channels just looked like snow. No air conditioning means you have to have your window open, so you get to hear the garbage dumpsters all night. The valet parking was $41/night, but I was charged $48 since my vehicle was "large". The Powell is a good deal overall, and the staff makes a good effort to help with questions and concerns. "Worst hotel I have ever stayed at, anywhere"
Every aspect of my stay was unacceptable and would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The room was dirty, dusty with cracked walls and molding. The 'view' was of a pigeon infested ventilation corridor, the room was hot with no central air, no screens in the windows so pigeons came in the room when we tried to get some fresh air. Bathroom is tiny, shower […] nozzle is about a foot too low and I'm only 6'. Overall receptionists were nice, although incompetent. All the tour buses begin at Union Square, and have staff stationed there all day to assist you. Went for a short trip to San Francisco to visit family. We arrived late at night from SFO and our return trip was a very early departure from SFO so a location near the BART was important. "2nd floor a bit noisey"
I just stayed here for a conference in April 2014. I had a room on the second floor which is directly above a forever 21 so it was loud bass music for most of the day and they must of had inventory one night until 4am blasting music. Other wise they offer a happy hour and breakfast spread which was nice. the price and location are unbeatable for Union […] Square. You right next to the Powell street BART station and by all of the various cable cars, street cars so transportation is no issue not to mention that there is a lot to do in Union Square within walking distance.
