Good enough for my purposes. Not the nicest or newest place, but that wasn't important to me. A little bar connected to the hotel was a big plus, and the little restaurant next door (Uncle John's), was actually pretty great! If you need to stay near LA Live/Staples Center, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Was a very nice hotel, liked the fact that it was walking distance to event, grocery store and bank. The receptionist was very helpful. Thought the bathroom was a bit small but the bed was comfortable which is an important part of my stay. I would consider staying there again.

It's an old hotel, out dated furniture, there's nothing glamourous about this hotel for sure, but based on price and location you can't beat it. Location is great for my needs. There is no parking available. They consider themselves to be a budget hotel and they have that right. If you are not a smaller sized person getting into the bathroom is a challenge. The Hotel is very out dated and is in a serve need of a face lift.

I read so much BS about condition and the neighborhood and blah blah blah. 1. You are in the downtown area of a major city and they are in full swing working to develop it a la NYC. 2. For the price range and location, the Stillwell was just fine. It's sort of a "hotel noir" to me....old, but quaint. Don't expect a 5 star Hilton or anything. It was functional and comfortable and that's what I was looking for. Close to coffee, grocery, and an easy walking distance to Staples Center. The person at the counter poured me 2/3 of a cup of coffee and then sat there in front of filling condiment containers and never offered a refill. We expected to be underwhelmed by the hotel based on most of the reviews we read. That being said, we also needed to go as low ball as we dared on price for a room as this was an out of town splurge to see The Who and we wanted to be near the Staples center for the concert. So, when we checked in we expected the very dated decor, sort of questionable […] elevator (which worked, a plus since we were on the 10th floor!) and ambience of our room. But all things considered, it was fine. Everything worked, it was clean and the bed was really comfortable. We had a good night's sleep and in my life paying 100 bucks to sleep anywhere is more then I want to pay but I doubt any other options that would have cost far more would have had me saying, Oh, so glad I paid more for this! The Stillwell was just fine for our needs and I'd go there again. Maybe not if I won the lottery, but for what I feel willing to spend on a night away from home, this place works just fine. We arrived around 4 to check in. The bar downstairs was extremely loud, but I was happy I was able to get a drink before we left for the show. I went up to the room and when I walked in I contemplated walking downstairs and saying no thanks. It was pretty rough. The smell of old bum was strong in the room. Old and extremely outdated. Nice room, lucky enough to get on the 10th floor - we had an amazing view. Kinda shabby elevator and walls, but clean and inviting. More importantly, this is in the center of everything, with minutes to walk to Staples Center etc. Minus for not having on-site parking, but several paid lots on the block.

I have been all around the world and have stayed in many of places and this by far was the worst place I have ever stayed in. The rooms are tired, old and are dirty. No one came to make up the room or to give clean towels. One good thing, no bed bugs. I did a really good check of the bed and none to be found, so that is one good thing the Stillwell […] has going for it. The staff on late at night was no help and he seemed upset that I bothered him. My advice stay clear of the Stillwell. You might be better off staying with the homeless in the shelter. Read more

This is an oldschool LA hotel. Character. There is nothing wrong with this joint. If you are looking for a place to crash in downtown LA you can't beat the price. This is not the Westin and there is nothing fancy. It is purely functional. Clean bathroom, beds, and spacious room.

This is an old hotel, and some of the floors (not the guest floors, far as I could tell) are occupied by people on housing assistance. So it's kind of an S.R.O. hotel, but there are also lots of travelers including international travelers. There's a funky old bar, a breakfast diner and an Indian restaurant in the lobby. The rooms are small and old fashioned, […] but everything worked and was clean. The price was great, about what you'd pay for a motel in the middle of nowhere, yet this is three blocks from the whole LA Live/Staples complex and only one block from new restaurants, lofts, etc. Parking was not included but just a couple of dollars at one of the lots on either side of the building, so very convenient. WiFi was free and worked fine. When there are lots of conventions and events going on in downtown LA, it can be impossible to find a room that's walking distance to downtown attractions. This fit the bill just fine. And if you've read some John Fante or Charles Bukowski, you'll feel like you're in one of those '40s hotels in the old Los Angeles. Read more
