This was the dirtiest, most disgusting room I've ever stayed in! The carpeting was outrageously disgusting - I refused to even take off my shoes until I had to to get into the bed. I was very disappointed. The sheets did not have a clean smell and had stains. One of the pillow case was almost shredded. The rug was very dirty and the sinks faucet dripped water and not just drops but a significant amount to where i was very upset that the hotel personnel hadn't cared to fix it and not because of the bill they may get, but of the […] carelessness of wasting water. Where the water was hitting it had made it very rusty to where it made me realized that the water had been dripping for many months at least. When i returned the key at check out (3:40 am) i told the clerk about the water and he got very defensive and said there's no one available to fix it on the weekends and i told him that the sink has been dripping for months, because its all rusted just where the water hits and since he didn't care i decided to complain to him about how dirty and unpleasant the room felt and his answer was " that is what u paid for" at that moment i understood why the other clerk (when i checked in @ 4:pm) changed his demeanor. I asked for a corporate office number and he said if i wanted to complain i can talk to the hotel manager later that morning. Wow! They are treating people from hotels.com as if we are paying to little to get good service. They are the ones agreeing to set that room at $60.00 a night and i don't care of the quality of the room as long as it's a no smoking room and that is clean!! The front desk / office looks like somthing out of the mid 60's. The office smelled like a india banquet dinner, and the front desk clerk was eating while trying to check me in. Vagabond Inn was ok not a great neighborhood and the room thermostat didn't work. The name makes sense LOL but room other than that had a great working shower and the bed was comfy etc. Just the thermostat kept giving off unwanted heat and the neighbors were scary.

My girlfriend and I were looking for a hotel that was close to a music venue that we were heading to for the night. We do this fairly often when we don't want to drink and drive. That being said, we usually look for the cheaper hotels that are closest to the venues. The Vagabond Inn has got to be one of the worst hotels/motels that I've ever stayed […] at; they give the term flea-bag hotel a bad name. I have stayed in some really cheap motels, but this one, by far, had to be the worst. The bad things are too innumerable to mention...but here's a sample: the floor was disgusting filth with something looking like dried puke on one side of the bed, when we arrived back to our room at 2 in the morning, there was an insanely drunk guy passed out next to our room. Our opening the door woke him up, apparently, and he began pounding on our door to let him in. My girlfriend was frightened and called the front desk, who informed us that there was nothing they could do. A subsequent call to the police was absolutely no help whatsoever and they refused to come help. Fortunately, our yelling out the door that police were called drove the dude away, albeit, screaming obscenities and threats on his way down the stairs. Turns out that police will not come to this hotel because it is well known as a drug/prostitution hotel...shame on the Costa Mesa Police for that one. If you are staying in Costa Mesa/Santa Ana, be sure to look elsewhere. Read more

The idea of you get what you pay for really comes to light in this case. Having said that, the cheapness of this hotel gives a surprising amount of comfort. Despite being next to the highway, it's fairly quiet and it has In-n-out, Burger King, McDonalds, Denny's and more within walking distance. Heater did not function. Room filthy. Carpets so bad had to wear shoes in room. I wouldn't stay here again unless they have refurbished the rooms. This is the second room I have had in this hotel and both had hand marks on doors and carpets stained just about everywhere in room.

The pool was a decent size, although the spa was quite dirty due to too many people during the Labor Day weekend. The staff were friendly and the housekeeper did a good job of cleaning and vacuum the room. I gave her a few dollars tip to show her my appreciation.
