Took a overnight stay to hang out around Pismo Beach. Its about 12 miles from Pismo Beach. Location is good, its between San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach. Near Downtown areas so your not isolated. Hotel was decent for an overnight stay. Good price. However, calling front desk for extra towels took 3 calls to get someone. Also, someone's leftover food […] left in the fridge. Bed was decent to sleep in. Shower head not working well. And on top of it the toilet clogged and I ended up un-clogging it myself. If you plan to stay longer then one night I suggest you pay a little more to get a better stay & service. Read more

Came here for the SLO marathon, love the location. Next to Madonna inn, freeway and shopping plaza, only 5 min to downtown.love it! Nothing I would complain... The front desk lady was so nice, she is a wht lady, helpful... Would stay there again for sure...

would never stay here again. would never recommend to friends or family to stay here. the wind was howling and it was cold when we arrived around 11pm. the main lobby door was locked, and we had to stand outside, waiting for a guest in front of us to be checked-in through a bank-teller like window. a ridiculous and stupid experience. the window in the […] bathroom would not close, and the wind howled through it all night. the bed sank almost to the floor when we got in, and it felt like everything in the room was the same as when i was 8 years old visiting motels with my parents. i'm now in my late 40s. The room was decent. Deceased sow bug in bathroom. Was not warned that crew would be working on the swimming pool using jack hammers at 8 AM. Pool was next to the room. It was quick and easy. Close to where We needed to be.

It was a last minute to drive to see a family member that was sick. The hotel was out dated but yet very clean and well maintained. Do take your own pillows I forgot mine and my back was killing me. The location was very convenient for us and shopping centers .

Good location. We were visiting our kid at Cal Poly(@2 miles away). The floor carpet looked old but was clean, the rest room/shower was clean, and no cigarette smell. The beds felt old, not alot of spring to them, but comfortable enough. The area was quiet and we slept good. The following morning, we stopped at the desk for the continental breakfast: […] muffins, pastries, juice, and coffee. A "good morning" from the desk person would have made a lot of difference. Quiet, slightly old and decently comfortable room with free wi-fi connection, simple breakfast and parking nearby. Slightly pricey motel with friendly staff. Location is OK (Beside Madonna Inn and highway. Short drive to downtown)

The two queen bed room is larger than expected for this price range. Room is clean, the bed is firm. The room has microwave and medium size fridge. It has on-site out-door pool and hot tub. Heater works well in such a cold winter time (12/30/2012). Major shopping center is just across the street with quite some restaurants. The biggest downside is the […] free continental breakfast...just muffin and water-down juice. These days, any hotel at this price range provides a far better free breakfast. I had a fine room, everything very clean. However, the hotel was FULL and some of the guests were loud, screaming, laughing, (drinking?) fighting, and running up and down stairs late into the night. My only complaint was that the air conditioning didn't work and when we told the front desk, they could really cared less. Other than that, it was a pretty nice hotel for what it was. It is not the Ritz, but clean, safe, and the bed was comfortable. I didn't feel like I was in a scene from the Bates Motel either.... So all in all, I give it a thumbs […] up!! Hotel is in a nice location and has a pleasant outward appearance. Our room was comfortable. The continental breakfast was lacking, including nothing more than a few cheap muffins and some apples. Can hardly be called a breakfast when many hotels offer a much larger variety today. Overall, not bad for the price we paid.

I was apprehensive about booking with this particular hotel due to some negative, or less than great, ratings. I was pleasantly surprised when we drove up. The hotel is in great shape, the gentleman who checked me in was nice, and the hotel room was clean. And to top it off, it was fully booked. Obviously I wasn't the only one to have decided to take […] a chance on a hotel with a less-than favorable rating. Remember, you're not staying in a 5-star hotel, but the Vagabond Inn was just fine. The hotel was clean, but nothing special. It was a good sized room so that made it nice since we were there for 3 days. It was close to CalPoly so it was easy to swing by and pick up our nephew for a meal. The price was very reasonable too.

We stayed two nights. (1) Our room did not get cleaned the first day. When we came back in the afternoon, I called the desk and asked if they were going to have the room cleaned - they said someone would be right up. So, we left for dinner and to stretch our legs at the nearby mall. When we got back about 9:30 pm, the room still hadn't been cleaned. […] This time I went to the front desk and was informed nobody was around to clean but they could send sheet and towels ... great! I have to make my own beds on vacation! ... (2) The Internet never worked. The system was down the whole weekend. Thank goodness for the nearby Starbucks! - my daughter was able to upload her homework as instructed by her teacher on time. ... (3) The people at the front desk were extremely efficient and courteous, and arranged for the sheets and towels, but I didn't see any sense of ownership in the problem from them. Bed was extremely uncomfortable, towels were rough, air conditioner very loud and table and night stand were sticky. "Continental" breakfast consisted of mini muffins and tiny apples, orange juice and weak coffee.

The staff was very professional & friendly but it really is just a motel. Everything was clean and neat. Coffee maker in the rooms. I would recommend it for a night or two (I stayed 2 nights) but next time, I think I will stay at a hotel rather than a motel.

If you are looking for a very simple room to just sleep at night and take a shower in the morning with no other expectations then you should be fine. Otherwise overall it is very outdated with furniture, bed, towels and TV that was purchased during the Reagon administration. All of it had its wear and tear. Down the block from freeway accross shopping center with restaurants within the block. Very quiet. Major difference is NO smoking smell like many budget motel.
