Travelodge Vancouver Lion's Gate - North Vancouver

The hotel room was clean and tidy. The hotel is probably an older building and as such shows some normal wear, but otherwise, the stay was perfect.

On arrival the grounds seemed middle ground, clean and kept up. When we entered the room it looked in good shape and didn't smell. The linens were clean and over all the up keep seemed good. It wasn't until I went into the restroom where I saw the single shower. It was grungy. The walls looked like they had not been scrubbed down in a while. They had […] a film on them. The floor grossed me out due to the film of light black grime on the tiles and the supposed black mold in the cracks close to the floor on the walls where the grout lines. I couldn't think of getting into the shower. The mattresses were sub comfort. They were pretty firm and a little on the lumpy side. The pillow I used was thin and I had to use another that had a cover on it that appeared to be there for decoration, but it was truly clean so I used it. The molding, paint and carpet were in good shape. It was what we paid for it and possibly a little expensive due to the fact that I couldn't use the shower due to the grime. So in full the beds being the true cost and reason for our need to stay I do feel that it wasn't completely unexpected, but I have been at other hotels that I paid cheaply for and had better beds than what I slept on in this hotel. The grimy shower put the cost over the top since I was unable to take a shower and it was just gross. I have never had that happen. Read more

My first stay at Travelodge was very pleasant. They gave me a very clean room, spacious and just right. On my second visit though, just two rooms down from my previous one I encountered a filthy, carpet stained, hard bed, dirty bathroom room. This is really a motel, not a hotel, per se. The condition of the rooms is much more "tired" than the pictures would indicate. Not a bad option for a one night maximum stay, given the access to Stanley Park and downtown. Glad it was just a one night stay. Will not stay there again. Booked two rooms, both bathrooms were tiny with very small shower, dirty, one outdated, and one updated did not have soap holder in the shower so had to put soap on the floor. To begin, this is not a hotel, it's a motel. At least that's what it felt and looked like. I had requested a non-smoking room, and upon arrival was told that is what I'm getting. The room smelt like cigarets. After a few hours I called down to ask once again if this was for sure a non-smoking room. The lady at the front desk kept trying to convince […] me that it was and said she could no longer move us that night. Besides the smell, there was no non smoking sign on the door and an ash tray with matches in our room. We were moved the next day, however that did not save me from a bad night in the stinky room. The beds are hard and pillows are not much better, at least in that first room. The second room was ok. All I have to say is if you stay here, don't expect much, and make sure you get what you're paying for. It is close to Downtown, and I think compared to other locations around downtown Vancouver, this is a fast ride to the center. Really close to Stanley park and Capilano suspension bridge, which is probably why it's so completely over priced! Read more

I recently stayed there for 4 nights. The check-in was easy. The hotel has very limited amenities, only coffee in the lobby. But there is a Denny’s and Earls restaurant within walking distance. The location is good, its located right off of Lions Gate Bridge. It was a bit difficult to find the entrance; keep in mind, turn left at Capilano and another […] left at Curling St (right before the Shell gas station). I had requested a room on the second floor but was told that the place was completely booked. I was in Room 228; please note the television in this room does not work (screen was black and fuzzy). I asked the front desk the following day to fix at the tv. It worked great when we returned, but after flipping through some channels then it was broken again. The tvs are very old and still using the old RF conversion cabling. The rooms are very dated and small but clean. The bed isn’t the most comfortable, so bring sleeping pills. For being one of the cheaper places to stay in the Vancouver area, I found this place to exceed my expectations. It has it's minor issues (squeaky beds, for example), but nothing that will prevent me from coming back for a good rate on a room in the Vancouver area.

These people are really good. On top of having the lowest prices, they are very good in service and friendly without hidden charges or pushy sales as I used to see in other similar hotels. The wifi internet is very fast, next to a bus station that takes you in 7 min to vancouver downtown, plenty of shops and restaurant in the area, very quite, and easy […] to reach. on top of that, I needed to extend my staying for 3 more nights and they agreed matching expedia prices although it was 1/2 what they take for normal reservation. other hotels will find it an opportunity to get more money with full rate charge. The hotel was well kept and the location was far enough away from the big city streets, but not too secluded from entering downtown Vancouver. The room was very clean when we arrived and was comfortably designed. Not a huge space, but enough to put your things, sleep, and get ready for the day.

This is not a bad place to stay in the summer. But the heaters are antiquated, slow to heat, and then too hot. Apparently the rooms are not insulated because when the heat is turned down or off in order to avoid noise and overly dry air, the room is immediately cold. Not an enjoyable or restful night.

There were small flying insects, bugs smashed to the ceiling, a few beetles crawling across the floor and on the walls. I couldn't really spend time in there and relax; it felt too dirty and wasn't remotely comfortable. The white comforter had either blood or faeces on it. The bed, elevated with a tall metal frame (maybe to keep the bugs off?), looked […] like it had been borrowed from a hospital or something. The secondary lock on the door looked like it had been torn off forcibly. Something about the room stirred up my asthma, whether it was pet dander or mold, I'm not sure.
