"North shore country"
Hotel is being renovated in 2nd wing but they do a good job to keep that away from guest areas. Staff all is helpful and polite but be prepared to check in exactly at 3 pm, no early check ins what so ever. I had my 2 yr old and 13 yr old w/ my wife so by the time we arrived at 1 pm we had a bit of a wait before we could actually check in. Rooms are […] nice although we did have two long black hairs in the shower which were super nasty. The room other that was newly remodeled so everything was fairly pleasent for the most part. Bring your own pillows the ones they have a super lumpy and the towels are not soft but super course so i suggest if u have the room to bring your own.. Especially since at check in time they end up giving you a towel card , & if you loose you will be charged $45 per card, im mean really? i didnt loose any thank god but it seems like another unceasary thing to remeber. Make sure you ride the horses on the beach at sunset, and go eat brunch on Sunday which was amazing by super pricey, no free mamoosas! Go snorkeling and sat night they have nice music, eat at romys shrimp spot right up the way , and the polenisan center is a must dress sandless and no shirt at all times other wise U will be over dressed!! "Quiet retreat on North Shore"
We enjoyed our stay at the Turtle Bay Resort. The beaches and resort are beautiful. The two golf courses are great, especially the Palmer Course. The golf deal after 2PM was amazing(included green fee, cart, rental clubs, and a sleeve of balls for $65 at the Fazio and $90 at the Palmer). The only negative to us was the price of food at all of the restaurants […] was very high. No economical option. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great for the North Shore"
This hotel was very nice and we had a great room overlooking the ocean. We went to sleep listening to the waves crashing. The beaches are also nice. There were turtles everywhere and my wife tried surfing at the hotel. Even though there was construction going on, you couldn't really tell. The only down side was that the staff, although courteous and […] helpful, was not as friendly as we had gotten use to on the south shore of the island. Would still recommend, especially for people who love the ocean. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful grounds great stay"
I might be biased because my now fiancé proposed on our first day here, but the hotel was amazing! Staff was super helpful and accommodating, the grounds were very peaceful, we slept each night with the sliding doors on our balcony open and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean each night. So many places to explore and at times you feel as if you are […] the only people at the hotel, it's that peaceful! When we come back to Oahu we will definitely be staying here again. We started our vacation in Waikiki and after all the hustle and bussel of the city, it was great to end our trip on such a relaxing and peaceful note. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful, Relaxing, Secluded beach front hotel."
Wonderful resort hotel. We stayed in the hotel portion of the resort. This was our first extended get away without our children. When we arrived the room intitially given to us was not as lovely as hoped for. It was a partial ocean view that included the view of the unbecoming rooftop of the attached building. My husband explained the situation and […] they upgraded our room for free. This tended to be the overall hospitality we recieved from all of the employees at the resort- they aimed to please and make your stay a memorable experience. It may be a few years but we will return and take our children. We observed the resort to be very family friendly! We would feel very comfortable taking our children there. Being on the north shore made all the difference as we spent one day in Honolulu and were so greatful to be staying on the quieter more island-like north shore! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Turtle Bay Resort Hotel"
The hotel overall was okay...wish I had known that one could request a room in the renovated wing. No one seemed to know exactly where the bike path around the resort was. We found it and it was really cool. It was the service road for the resort and it took you around the golf course. The bay's coral reef is a good starter place for snorkling...but […] it is overused and it shows. Nice beach area. Good fitness center! It opens early and stays open late. The hotel was nice, however was under construction renovations at the time we stayed. For the price we paid, I expected more from the room; it looked like things were missing, very plain. Valet service was excellent, front desk people nice; restaurants a little pricey. Overall it was a nice stay but a little too far away from other things.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

1st trip to Hawaii & we loved it!! Resort was very well kept, many things to do at the resort. The only negative we could see was the resort food, while great, was very pricey. "Beautiful setting, but make sure to get new room"
Ocean view from the room was spectacular, but that's where it ends. Nice public beach just right next door, cabana's free for hotel guest use. The hotel's restaurants were pricey and the food was only meh. With one wing of the hotel closed for remodeling the resort was quiet and seemed creepily quiet. "Fantastic getaway from the kids!"
Turtle Bay is a super experience. We rented a king bed cottage and it was luxurious; a beautiful setting. Best location to enjoy the beauty of the island. I stayed in one of the upgraded rooms and they did a wonderful job. The colors reflect the light and create a peaceful, cheerful atmosphere. Having coffee out on the comfy balcony chairs enjoying the amazing views was a perfect way to start the day. Views from everywhere! There are still upgrades happening […] but I hardly noticed - I think all the public spaces are done. There are miles of beach and trails to walk or bike along and it was a great spot to try surfing for the first time. It is definitely quiet but I loved walking in the mornings feeling like I had the whole beach to myself. The hotel was busy but it never felt crowded - rooms were really quiet. I did have a car and glad to be able to get around but the nearest town is almost 30 minutes away. (there is a bus that runs up and down the highway). Food is crazy expensive and I really wish they had a microwave. There is a fridge in the room so stop at Foodland on your way up and stock up. Beach area is calm for swimming. Kayak tour was just ok - you can hike over to the area where they kayak and see the same things. I did take the North Shore Catamaran snorkel tour which was great - fun sailing, lots of fish, dolphins, and turtles. Staff was very friendly. Perfect blend of relax and active options. Definitely try for room on 5th or 6th Floor. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best resort on the North Shore!"
A beautiful hotel with amazing views of the sunrise and sunset from the property. Beaches were pristine and perfect for families with small children, with a free hour of snorkeling and use of beach chairs and palapas daily. Beach restaurant and bar makes spending an entire day at the beach a true luxury, but walk back to hotel to grab lunch from your […] room is so convenient. Pools were clean and heated well so that even with gusty winds late at night you can still swim. All activities are offered from hiking to surfing to driving dune buggies, and surf/paddleboard instructors are top notch! Evening entertainment is offered on the weekend, but make sure you ask because we just happened to "stumble" upon them (they weren't in the brochure or on the daily schedule). Never feels crowded, and though they are under construction for remodeling, we never were inconvenienced or disrupted. A true gem! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The grounds were beautiful and very relaxing but we were underwhelmed by the resort and it's amenities. Even though it had been rennovated, it still felt lacking. You don't have many choices on the North Shore so this one is probably the best, but it's not a property that is going to blow you away.Genuine Expedia guest review
The lobby, pool, and grounds are outstanding, and this is a VERY relaxing environment. I would say perfect for a weekend, but not sure there is enough to do for an entire week. As others have written, the guest rooms are in need of a makeover, but Turtle Bay is addressing that, with one of the 3 wings nearly remodeled. We stayed for only one night, […] so as anticipated we got one of the yet-to-be refurbished rooms. Certainly not what you would expect for $350, but I guess you pay for the location and view. We are still glad to have chosen the North Shore, as we ventured down to Waikiki Beach just long enough to get my wallet stolen and see the overbearing crowds on the city beach there. "Could Have Been Much Better"
We were a bit disappointed with our stay at Turtle Bay. We had originally booked a Cottage Suite King, but got "upgraded" to a 1-bedroom Ocean Villa, which sounds much nicer than it actually was. I almost think that had we NOT been upgraded, we would have had a better experience. The good things about the villa were that it had it's own washer and dryer […] and kitchenette, and it was also very close to the beach (quite convenient). The bad things were that we ended up getting a double bed (not even a queen), we saw a big cockroach in the bathroom, and there were ants in the kitchen and bathroom. The room also wasn't as modern as we had hoped (or at least what we saw in the pictures for the Cottage Suites). The service was also not over the top like we expected at a resort. It was the same type of service you'd get at a Holiday Inn. Nothing special. Overall, we didn't have a horrible experience, but for the amount we paid, we were disappointed. There was nothing about this hotel that would make us want to come back. To end on a good note, the service at Ola and the hotel lobby were great! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, We apologize that you were not happy with the ocean villa you stayed at. Our Oceanside cottages come with a ho’okipa. Ho’okipa means hospitality in Hawaiian. The ho’okipa delivers you fresh fruit daily and is available to help you with anything you need. We agree you may have liked staying in the cottages better. We would be honored if you chose to give us another try and stay in the beach cottages next time. Mahalo for taking the time to share your experience with us.
"Overpriced stay in Paradise!"
Staff was courteous, view was fantastic, hotel was clean, all services above average and pleasant. Furniture in and outside was , dated and uncomfortable. Beds were very comfortable; however, couch inside and outside wooden chairs were not comfortable at all, could've used some cushions. Toilet whined, sliding door runner was bad and did not close properly, […] did not receive the email alert on the generator repairs and the telephone went off into a loud whining sound at 1:00a.m. They should've left everyone a voicemail the day prior to alert everyone. Wifi was very slow. These are really minor issues, but when you are paying approximately $500 per night, they mean a lot. It was not worth the money per night for the room. "Wonderful North Shore Retreat"
Overall, great experience. Our only struggles came a few times with the hostesses at some of the restaurants. It seemed we were being treated differently than other people coming in and eventually it got old. The wait STAFF was superb, but we could have done without the hostess problems. Otherwise, the hotel was great. Everyone was generally really […] friendly, the new spa/fitness center was awesome. "Great view, but not worth the price"
Turtle Bay is on a beautiful location on the North shore. There don't seem to be many other options if you want to stay up north and away from Honolulu. For the amount of money we paid, I expected more. The hotel was in the middle of remodeling, so the rooms may be better in the future, but you could see some wear and tear in our room. The beach is […] mostly covered in sharp coral, so the swimming wasn't great. The waves are rough, which I expected at the North shore, but you can only swim in one part of the bay and it is usually crowded. The traffic to and from the hotel was much worse than I expected. It took three hours to go about 15 miles for a "quick" lunch in a nearby town. The parking is terrible unless you get a valet. We drove around for 10-15 minutes looking for a place to park. There is no specific parking for hotel guests and the beach is open to the public. This is the kind of hotel that charges you a whole lot extra for every little thing you do. We stayed on three islands over our vacation, and this is the only hotel that had a $25 per day charge for using the amenities like Wi-Fi. The other hotels provide the extras as part of the room charge. I expect some services from a hotel to be complimentary, but that is not what you get here. Everything you do has a high price, and it usually isn't worth the money. I didn't expect it to be cheap, but for the money we paid, I expected the room and overall experience to be much nicer. Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us on Expedia. Although you liked our beautiful location, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy our swimming area and the traffic on the North Shore. "If you want the "postcard" and Oahu, Turtle Bay"
First of all, location, location, location! If you are a person looking for the "post cardish" Hawaii, yet also wish to visit all the "must sees" rent a car, stay here, you will be glad you did. We came at the perfect time (late May) for 5 days, crowds were non-existent, waited for nothing, and could get booked on any tour activity with ease. The resort […] grounds are beautiful, the beach stretches for what seems like forever. You could literally feel alone on a beach. Tons of activities. I myself went on the morning horseback ride. My guide was Kylie, she was absolutely AWESOME. The horse program is top notch, the ride very enjoyable. The resort is central to everything great you must see and/or visit kualoa ranch, the shrimp trucks, sharks cove, wiamea falls, turtle beach, and every other beach you can possibly stop at. All that said, a lot of the resort is being renovated, however, the rooms are in need of updating. No big deal, the grounds MORE than make up for that. The biggest problem you will find is dining, four star (even three??) restaurants I would not call what exists there, although this is true for a lot of the island. Problem solver: there is a small refrigerator in your room, hit the food mart keep a few groceries, eat at the shrimp trucks, and lei leis,on grounds, is okay (although a bit expensive). It is about 25 minutes to downtown Honolulu. We drove all over on 1/2 a tank of gas, easy breezy. So if you wish to avoid the pushy, rude city....This is the place. "Great Stay at Turtle Bay!"
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Turtle Bay! From the minute we checked in, our comfort and satisfaction seemed to be the first and foremost concern for every member of the staff. Whether it was the slide attendants who were so kind to my son, the friendly wait staff at the restaurants, or even just employees we passed in the hallways, everyone […] was so warm and welcoming! The housekeeping staff was incredibly respectful of our privacy, but also made sure that our room was clean and tidy. I was so grateful that their attentive staff who provided such great customer service to make our stay more comfortable. I rated the convenience of the hotel location as a five, but be aware that it is remote (which we loved after having spent 5 days in Waikiki). You'll drive several miles for stores, gas stations and restaurants. The hotel location and the surrounding neighborhood make for a quiet and peaceful experience, so if that's what you're looking for then you'll love it! My husband and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2014 and are in the beginning stages of planning a trip. My husband and I recently stayed here for our honeymoon and we LOVED it!! The North Shore is the perfect location for anyone looking for a serene, beautiful Hawaiian experience while being close enough to the action of Honolulu to drive over for the day. The food is ridiculously overpriced, but that is Island-wide. The staff was very friendly and helpful, […] and the grounds are just gorgeous. We've wanted to stay here for a while after seeing it in many movies. The location is amazing, as are the grounds...there are ~800 acres that can be explored! We spent most mornings hiking the various trails on the hotel grounds. For the price we paid, we really expected fancier accomodations. They are in process of renovating, but perhaps they could […] have offered a discount for those staying in the older rooms? The rooms were very clean, just outdated. "Great hotel, Under Renovation"
We were disappointed that even though Expedia "guarantees" a KING BED, the hotel does not honor that. They fill the rooms as the guests arrive. The staff did accommodate us after the first day by switching us to a room with a king bed. Also, the fact that two of the restaurants and the entire SPA and Health Club were under construction and out-of-commission […] for use was disturbing. Not so much the renovation, but that this fact was not disclosed to us at the time of purchase of the tickets. Again, the hotel accommodated it's guests with a discount on the massage services and an adequate room in which they conducted them. Overall, the hotel staff was extremely friendly. Turtle Bay was just what we were looking for after spending our first 5 days at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. From the first moment we arrived we knew this was the place to be. We had booked one of the sea cottages and # 139 was unbelievable. Ocean front we listened to the waves at night to put us to sleep. The staff and the customer service […] was impeccable. All our needs were taken care without hesitation. From the 4 free cocktail tickets I was given while we waited during check in to the fresh jucie and fruit that were left in our room each morning. Food was very good but a little bit expensive but not as bad as Waikiki. There is so much to do at the resort, we only wish we had spent our whole vacation here and not just 5 days. The best thing I can say about Turtle Bay is not once did someone try to sell us a timeshare like at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Turtle Bay is in the middle of major upgrades at the moment but we hardly noticed. I can only image what it will be like when they are finished. "If you are not a surfer look else where"
The hotel was nice but to far away, not much to do in the area unless you like surfing. All of the activities were way over priced. The waterside for the kids was constantly closed. The restaurants on the resorts were also over priced and not many options. Also not much of a night life. Overall I thought the actual hotel was nice if you just want to […] lay by a pool all day. But next time I would stay closer to Waikiki Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, There are several things to do on property including: golfing, snorkeling, surfing, Stand Up Paddling, kayaking, horseback riding, segwaying and taking a helicopter tour. We also have a spa, fitness center and 5 miles of coastline and trails for our guests to explore. There are also free ukulele and shell hula lessons for our guests three days a week as well as live music at Surfer, The Bar. ON Thursday and Sunday nights we have a free fire knife performance at Hang Ten. We’re glad you found our hotel to be nice. Mahalo and we hope to see you again soon so you can try out our activities.
The resort is between two of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. We spent one day watching a parade of whales when we weren't snorkeling. Plus there's surfing, horseback, 36 holes of golf, tennis, four pools, and two hot tubs. Every room has an ocean view and the surf lulls you to sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Turtle Bay Write your comment.Aloha, There’s nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the ocean! We’re thrilled you enjoyed that perk as well as watching whales and participating in some of our many activities. We hope to have the honor of a return visit in the near future. Mahalo.
"Overpriced for what you get"
Great staff and great location but the rooms look like a 1970's makeover with cheap paint and cheap labor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, We’re glad you liked our great staff and great location. Thanks for sharing your opinion of our rooms with us. Major renovations are underway to enhance our guestrooms. Once the rooms are complete we invite you experience them first-hand. Mahalo.
"great hotel for everybody"
very pleasent stay, good service, the fitness room is ok, but the impression is that nobody is responsible for anything, when you come there is no sign where to turn off the main road, just the golf club, which you do not know if it belongs to the hotel. the parking is not numbered, you just have to hope you know where you parked.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, We’re glad you found Turtle Bay Resort to be a great place for everybody! We apologize that our new signage was not up during your stay. We are currently upgrading our signs to better inform our guests. We’re glad you had a pleasant stay with us and we hope to have the honor of a return visit in the near future. Mahalo.
"Get out of Waikiki"
This hotel is far both geographically and spiritually from the fast pace of Waikiki. Located on Oahu's north shore the hotel offers travelers the ability to get out of Waikiki and experience pristine and uncrowded beaches. It's a great place to chill and enjoy the real Hawaii. Much of the staff live in the surrounding small communities where the pace […] is slower. As result the service is less businesslike and more personal. We live in Hawaii and selected Turtle Bay for a short "staycation". It was a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, Thank you for spending your staycation with us. We love having kama’aina visitors and we’re happy to hear you had a relaxing and rejuvenating experience! We hope you can visit us again soon! Mahalo!
This hotel is the most beautiful place to stay on the Oahu island. I loved it and will definitly stay there many more times in the future. It is right on the beach and away from all the crowds and congestion of Waikiki. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is because food is a major problem at this hotel, and for most people, food is a big […] deal. The food that is available is terribly expensive and not even the best quality food. We ate at the Ola restaraunt and we were so disapointed that the average meal cost was $40 + and the food tasted terrible. Luckily we had a rental car and was able to drive to the nearest grocery store and fast food places. If you don't have a rental car you will spend $$$ on substandard food. Response by Turtle Bay Aloha, We are sorry to hear you felt the food options were limited at Turtle Bay. We’re excited to announce the opening of our new farm to table restaurant, Kula Grille on April 4. We also have our Lobby Lounge which offers salads, sandwiches and wraps to go and coffee drinks. Hang Ten Bar is located by the pool and we have Lei Lei’s by our golf club. Surfer, The Bar is located in the main lobby as well. We will be sure to pass on your review to the management at Ola so they can learn and hopefully improve from your experience. We look forward to your return. Mahalo.
