Cute hotel but no handicapped access. Horrible staff with bad manners. Parking is terrible too. Would not stay again.

Robert's Riverwalk Hotel is a beautifully renovated building located on Detroit's Riverwalk. Our first floor room was located facing the Detroit River. The room had 12 foot ceilings, a beautifully decorated environment with a comfortable bed. The large bathroom included marble flooring and walls with a large granite/marble counter top. We enjoyed a […] complimentary continental breakfast and the hotel room rates were comparable and reasonable. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to our questions and requests. Access to the river walk was right out the front door of the hotel, which allowed us to walk along the river to the downtown area. We stayed at this hotel for night and didn't know what to expect from the reviews but were pleasantly surprised. It was clean, rooms were in good condition and was in a safe area. There was security which made me feel even more safe. The breakfast was a downer but we made do.

Overall I would not stay at this hotel again. Positive things about the hotel would be the riverview out back and the place was pretty overall. The negatives were that this hotel is in a really bad area of Detroit, it is not downtown, its about two miles away. The free breakfast in the morning is TERRIBLE, the worst I have ever seen. There was OJ, coffee […] and a couple danish. The hallway reeked of pot smoke all day and night. The room was run down, the bathmat looked as if it was ten years old. Nice location along the Riverwalk, and an easy 1 mile or so walk (in good weather) to the RenCen, where you can catch the people Mover to the rest of Downtown sports venues and events. First of all we did not get the room we paid for. We specifically needed 2 queens and a sofa bed. We were told that wasn't available and were given a king with a couch bed. We enquired about a roll away and they said they'd try. No bed was provided. We had to request bedding for the sofa bed. No info was given about breakfast, where the ice was, etc. […] No glasses in the room, just coffee mugs. Breakfast was in the bar area: a jug of oj, a thermos of coffee and a plate of six danishes. When we came in there was no front desk, there were two tables put together with a lap top on it. The man that was the receptionist was very rude. he wasnt smiling or talking in a friendly tone of voice. I told him i made a reservation and he kept asking me, u made a reservation like i was lying or something and he kept talking over. me and asking me […] a series of quesitions. he had the nerve to ask me to show him on my phone before he would even would touch that laptop on the table to look up the reservation. Stayed there for the night because my son attended a concert at Fillmore. Overall, it was a nice place and the people were very pleasant. Located in a wierd area surrounded by many buildings. Would never have known it was there. Very nice view of the Detroit River. Would stay there again.

Right on the river, too bad I was there for wrk and not leisure... on teh outskirts of Greektown casino area, so if you're looking for a quieter location this is it! Bizarre building, might have been executive housing once for teh GM plant next door. Either way, food onsite, and retail close by so it's a winner in my book, plus close to downtown if […] you want to go sightseeing or hang out down there. My room had some maintenance issues, but they were minor and confined to the bathroom- locking doorknob was on backwards (so you could accidentally lock yourself in!), and the shower head was all broken and MacGuyver'd back up. Was clean though, huge TV (46") and a huge bed- plus they didn't have a zillion stupid pillows all over it, just 2 plump king size and 1 giant body pillow (I hate decorative pillows and jut throw them on the floor anyway. If I find myself back in Detroit for some reason, I'll probably skip the chains as usual and stay here again. Only thing I didn't like is there are no side exits, so you have to come in through the main entrance/valet area, but not really a big deal. Read more

The stay wasn't bad, but could have been better. --Needs new linen. There is no clock in the room. Check out is 11, which is inconvenient. The hotel holds a $50 deposit on top of the hotels.com fee. --rooms were pretty and spacious.

Fronting on the Detroit International Riverfront, with the RiverWalk right in front of its front door, Robert's Riverwalk Hotel is housed in the old Parke-Davis Research Laboratory. For me, re-using beautiful old buildings instead of knocking them down and erecting some generic cookie-cutter structure is a big plus, and they did a nice job of re-purposing […] the building. Our corner room was spacious, if a little oddly shaped, and had a beautiful view of the river and downtown Detroit on one side (a view of a parking lot on the other side, but, hey!) Amenities were few: There was an iron and a hair dryer, a coffee maker, a flat-screen TV and an alarm clock radio that accepted auxiliary input, but no refrigerator or microwave. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel provided a free shuttle service to the Fox Theater for the guests going to the concert there that night. The free continental breakfast was underwhelming. But we really liked the character of the place. Read more

I did take issue with one of the gentleman that worked the desk in the morning. He wasn't the most inviting person in Detroit. The lobby area was cluttered. It was difficult to tell where the reception area was because there were two desks with paper everywhere. The elevator had a bad smell. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower had mold between the tub and the tile.

The location is acceptable although a bit isolated. The front desk people are friendly. The housekeeping leaves much to be desired, as cleaning rooms are slow and this being the second visit, they failed to replenish the bathroom toiletries and clean the bathroom.

The hotel reminded me of a few of the European hotels I've stayed in. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Check-in/out was simple and the view of the water from the lobby is sparkling. We requested extra pillows and received them almost immediately. Door and walls are a bit thin but overall it's a wonderful hotel.
