The hotel staff was awesome--all their regular rooms were booked so we got upgraded to a huge room with a private deck. It is across the street from Busy Bees Bakery--tasty bagels, etc, and just down the road from Windansea beach. It was a nice place to have as a home base to walk and explore La Jolla--lots of fun!

I've stayed here before, but this time was placed in Rm. 214 which is in a "tunnel" with no natural light in the main room (there is a window in the bathroom) and an echo of noise from the maid's station next to the room, and noisy and thoughtless guests who spend much time on their cell phones outside their room, unconcerned that other guests can hear […] their every word. (This is not the hotel's fault, but the guests'.) At checkout the manager on duty gave me a voucher towards another stay because of my complaint. Hotel is about 1 to 2 blocks from beach. Great location. Mexican resturant accross street is not as good as they say but they do give you a 25% off coupon. Motel, not hotel. Clean, well organized, super nice staff. Small breakfast area, standing room only no chairs. Limited to bagels, toast coffee and juice. Not much more. Only had a short time in LaJolla on our way to a conference--enjoyed our stay. Got a good night's sleep, quiet neighborhood and really good food in area. Price was super! Staff very friendly and helpful.

All things considered, it is hard to beat this. Really good location, nestled in with nicer beach-area homes and area businesses. The walk to the beach is about a block. Not bad at all. Right across the street from a really good Mexican restaurant. Let me tell you, that was a nice convenience after a long drive (from Phoenix). In my opinion, the property […] was very charming, reminding me of motor lodges of a bygone era. Nice tropical foliage dotting the landscape. The room was clean and service prompt and friendly. Our room had a little kitchenette, which came in handy. Good sized vanity area. We didn't take advantage of the cont. breakfast as there are tons of options in the area (We were on vacation for crying out loud), but it seemed to have the basics. Bottom line for me is I've spent a lot more for a lot less, in less desirable areas. The rates are very reasonable and for a family vacation, it is very hard to beat. Good job guys. Read more

Always stay here when I visit La Jolla. Safe in room. Laundry on site. Great staff and you can't beat location. Close to all and walking distance to shops, restaurants and beaches. Can't be beat for the price either. Paid more to stay at Sheraton one night because this hotel was booked. No room safe at Sheraton and was miles from everything.

Surprisingly good, for the least expensive motel in La Jolla! The parking was a bit of a challenge, and the room carpet needed to be cleaned (unless you like dirty feet when you get out of the shower). But the location was a block from the ocean, the neighborhood was fun to walk around, and lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. Hotel staff was awesome, […] and I had things in my room that I don't always get at the 4-star hotels -- makeup mirror, microwave, coffee maker, and a refrigerator that actually had space for my restaurant leftovers (unlike other hotels who insist on stuffing those refrigerators with snacks). I even had two luggage stands, which you have to ask for at resorts sometimes. I still wish we didn't always have to have the break-your-neck overly stuffed pillows, and I do wish the light bulbs were brighter for those of us who are over 50 and can't see anything without some extra light! Hotel was nice convient to downtown San Diego, and the beaches. All around fun spot. my only complaint is that the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Too hard to really get a good night sleep, try softer bedding...... We would go back with my down mattress cover.

Enjoyed my stay & walks along the ocean, just a block or 2 to Pacific coast. Sidewalks & stairs down to beaches, huge rocks & sand, many surfers. Staff @ hotel were very helpful. Everything I needed & more. i'd stay there again.

We stayed here in March and had a great stay. This trip wasn't as good. The pool was being worked on 2 of our 3 days. Our first room was very stuffy and smelled moldy. The second room wasn't much better. Our final room was fine but the windows we learned couldn't be opened more than 2 inches which was very annoying. We were told to leave the door open […] if we wanted some air. Sadly, I don't think we will be staying here in the future because it is a great location. Read more

My husband and I have been staying at the Travelodge Windansea Beach in La Jolla for years. We try to get to San Diego as much as possible, I'd say 6-10 times per year, and each time we stay at the Travelodge. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the hotel for you. This is a very low key, small motel-style hotel, but the proximity to the best […] beach in San Diego is AMAZING! It's a three minute walk, or one minute bike ride. My only complaint is from my most recent trip. The room didn't seem as clean as it should have been. There was a used bar of soap and half bottle of shampoo in the shower, which leads me to believe the shower wasn't cleaned properly. But, the hotel overall, the location and the staff made up for it. I stayed for one night for a basketball tournament in town. I had stayed on Friday night across the street at the Holiday Inn Express sharing a room with a friend. That facility was lovely, but outside my budget. The Travelodge was actually better situated to the beach. Parking is a challenge, but I think there is street parking. I don't think there […] is an elevator, so you have to carry your bag upstairs. The room is smallish and hasn't been redecorated for a while, but it was clean. The room came with a coffee pot (which hadn't been cleaned out-not the end of the world because obviously it had been recently used) and a refrigerator. I also like the lighted makeup mirror. I was also glad that I was behind a wall because I think the traffic noise would have been bothersome. The bed was comfy and clean. I didn't partake of the breakfast offerings figuring it might be limited to pastry, so I went next door to the Wind and Sea Cafe for take out. Eclectic place but delicious pumpkin spice latte. For the price, I think this is a great value. Don't expect a five-star, this is a very basic hotel but, in that range, this is definitely worth reserving. Here are the pluses: (1) the staff (they went FAR out of their way to try to get my boarding passes printed, for free, and never complained after I tried with them 9 times [a comedy of errors]), (2) […] location is perfect, easy to access off the main La Jolla street, parking easy and safe (well-lit, in front of rooms), about 20 min from airport, (3) breakfast (yes, very basic, but good value in the room price including coffee, orange juice, bagels and bread with toaster and jams, danishes, bran and kids cereal with two kinds of milk, apples and oranges available all day), (4) room is clean, functional, had no noise problems but wore earplugs so there could have been and we didn't notice (always where earplugs and you'll sleep anywhere great). And the pillows were clean and plush and the bed very comfortable. There weren't any minuses, just a lower standard to expect. So if you visit, drop off your stuff, go touristing, come back to sleep and have a light breakfast to start your next day, then why pay more?? Spend your savings on a great dinner or seeing the sights (George's restaurant, top floor, VERY recommended). Read more
