"Good value on a budget, friendly staff"
I give this hotel a 4 only because I reviewing it as a budget motel. This hotel cannot be compared to standard hotels such as a Hampton. It is a gently renovated Travelodge, and although clean enough, the furnishings and bathroom are quite outdated. The location is pretty good depending on what you want to do. It is a 10 minute walk from a light rail […] stop, or a 15-20 walk across the bridge to get to downtown. I had only 24 hours in Portland, and I wish I'd stayed a bit closer to the downtown area, since I didn't have a car. The best thing about this motel was the friendliness of the lady at the front counter. We had a great conversation. Moments like that make me happy to stay in places that some may consider "off-beat". All in all, a great value for the price as well as clean and safe. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"In desparate need of remodel or deep cleaning"
The location of the hotel was great it was close to several hip bars, restaurants, and quaint shops. The outside looks fine and the check in and out was convenient. However, the rooms were terrible! There were weird stains everywhere on the carpet, upholstered chairs, and all over the bedding! Of course all of this was accompanined by a foul smell. […] For the first time in a hotel, I had to wear flip-flops in the shower. Ick! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"good for location"
Stand up shower is good, but bathroom is a bit small. Tight Squeeze getting to bathroom in a queen double room. If you're not too demanding about accommodations, it does offer great location. Great proximity to downtown, very walkable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"4 blocks away from OCC, walking distance to food"
It was OK. We picked this hotel/motel for its proximity to the convention center. It's walkable, but with the weather and the number of us (4-5) we drove anyway (we were on our feet all day). The bar (Doug Fir Lounge) across the street is killer. The numbers don't reflect dissatisfaction--the hotel was what it was and we picked it for that. The biggest […] plus was that the hotel honored our "Do No Disturb" sign all week. I'm not a fan of any one poking through my room when I'm not there, so thanks to the Eastside lodge for that. "Good and Cheap"
Across the street from the hipster-hangout Jupiter hotel, this is a great option if you want to visit the party, and have a quite place to sleep. Accommodations aren't lavish, but they're clean and comfortable. Price can't be beat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"East Side lodge"
This place was clean and very convenient to town but the environment is extremely loud. If you don't mind the noise of a busy street right by your window, trains honking their horns all night long or drunken guests running around at 3am then this place is for you. I asked the reception for a room away from the street but none was available, he said […] the area is "lively". However, the room was clean, the shower was clean with decent pressure and the rate was very good for the location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Eastside Lounge + Doug Fir + Jacks = Woohoo!"
If you're just looking for a simple comfy room to stay in while you mill about the neighborhood on a short stay, there's more than enough to entertain you within mere blocks. I stay here every time I go to Portland, and can't say enough about the Doug Fir Lounge or Union Jacks for that matter... Stumbling distance from both.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Purely Utilitarian Motel"
There is nothing fancy about this motel but it is clean and my interactions with the front desk employees were great. It's a fantastic location for visiting Portland if you'll be in the downtown or NW/NE/SE areas. The room (308) was clean but several elements were super outdated (bathroom especially). The heat and A/C worked, the windows opened for […] fresh air, there was hot water. Bed was comfortable enough. Outside noise was only a problem when people were walking and talking along the sidewalk outside window - not often. The elevator made a HORRIFYING sound both times I took it up ... I didn't fear for my life, but it was still disconcerting. Hotel overall: not great but not bad either. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent bargain hotel"
It is what it is, a bargain hotel, but it's a perfectly good one, no complaints. I would stay there again. That part of Burnside is nicer than I remembered.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Our fist trip to Portland"
I was originally to give it a 2 points until i saw my friend's room in Double tree hilton rented for 3 times as much. Our room was better in couple ways....it had a mini fridge, micorwave. Room is very clean, clean linens, towels. My super sensitive wife did smell something mild from toilet. But, keeping the fan on was good enough. Lots of parking […] in the lot and in the street. There was some noice coming from neighboring bar, but, I dont loose sleep over someone else's joy. My 3 year old had lot of fun too. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not the Jupiter, But It's Close (Distance-wise)"
I was attending a concert at the Doug Fir Lounge and was on a pretty tight budget. The Eastside Lodge is literally kitty-corner across the street from the Doug Fir and is priced about 40% less than the on-site Jupiter Hotel. While I love the Jupiter's Ikea-Modern decor, it just wasn't in the budget this time around. What I saved in room rates, I was […] able to spend in the Jupiter's lounge! Of course don't expect anything resembling the Jupiter's ammenities...but if all you need a cheap place to stumble back to after a night of partying at the Doug Fir, the Eastside Lodge is your place. "The Eastside Hotel in Portland Oregon."
The hotel was in a close to where we needed to be. Walking distance to all the place we wanted to go. It's an older hotel but clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place to stay if not planning to spend a lot of time in your room. Great price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location for access to downtown & convention center. Public transit close, and good parking."
This is a refurbished motel that has been very well done. Rooms are very clean, beds are comfortable, amenities are exactly as stated. The staff is delightful, and most helpful. We were able to get all the transit directions, as well as information on the sights we were interested in quickly and in detail. The only "issue" we faced was a party in the […] room directly above us--we think it was perhaps a wedding event, but it lasted until the wee hours until we banged on the ceiling and then it was much quieter. It's not in the best part of town, but we had no issues with anything in that regard at all. We couldn't have been treated better, and the price was definitely right!! "Clean room!"
This hotel's location allows easy exploration of several neighboorhoods in Portland. The one-way streets take awhile to get used to, but traffic flowed well. The cleanliness of the room was great! Iron and board provided but not hairdryer. Day office staff offered helpful assistance in planning activities as well as coordinating taxi service. Taxi arrived […] right on time as promised. "Super value friendly motel"
We have tried lots of hotels in the Portland area to try to get close to the action without spending a fortune. For the money this is a great motel. We had a double double. The room was clean, the bed was firm. It was much quieter than the Jupiter next door which has paper thin walls. You can explore the eastside or walk or bike over the Burnside bridge […] to downtown. Great coffee just down the block, lots of food and drink options within walking distance. The front desk was welcoming and helpful. I would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"good hotel and location, internet connection bad"
is located close to downtown and has some cool bars in the neighbourhood. rooms are clean, but the internet signal didnt reach our room. we told the receptionist the first day, but until our last day of our stay the connection didnt work properly. However in the lobby we had internet access. Overall, its a good hotel and its worth the money.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Everything great except for the bed."
The location of the place is great and the rooms were in much better condition than I expected for a motel. Also, it was nice to have such a vibrant nightlife so close to the place. The only reason I gave it a low review is that the beds were horrible. I woke up and felt like I went 2 rounds with Mike Tyson. My lower back muscles were killing me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not recommended."
We had an incredibly loud, drunk group that was split between two rooms on either side of our room who were simply obnoxiously loud. Staff did nothing about them, I had to go over and deal with them myself to make them shut up. The pool was closed, the building itself is old and while fairly clean, it's on it's last legs. When I asked for a room change […] to get away from the loud neighbors on both sides I was told there were no other rooms available and then saw two "ladies of the night" walk over and get rooms with no reservations at all. I would never go back to this hotel even if it only cost what it was worth (maybe $25 a night?) due to how rude the night and "next day" staff were about everything. "Eastside Lodge"
The hotel was pretty good for the price. The only thing I'd complain about is there is a little smoking area that happened to be right outside out room, and drunk people sat out there all night being extremely loud and obnoxious. It would've been nice for hotel staff to come out and tell them to shush.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice basic hotel"
I believe its all about expectations.....This hotel was just fine for what we needed. The staff was lovely and offered advice about where to eat, coffee in the lobby, our room was ready early, the room was dated, but clean. Bed was very comfortable. Location was perfect for us. We rented a car from Enterprise, just a few blocks away, but the light rail […] wasn't too far if you are not lugging tons of luggage. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good for the price"
It was very convenient for where we wanted to be and easy to find off I-5. The walls and door were pretty thin so we heard everything- including a fight in the hallway. Overall, a little dated but clean enough for our purposes! The front desk took my credit card when we checked in and did not return it to me, so I had to go back for it.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Couldn't find a better dea!"
This hotel was very well priced and exceeded my expectations for cleanliness and comfort. It was very clean. The room was small but adequate, with almost all the amenities I'd expect in the much more expensive hotel. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. The soda/water in the vending machines was very well priced - no price gouging here.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Get what you pay for"
I wouldn't really call the Eastside Lodge a hotel...it is more of a motel. I am no stranger to "roughing it", but I must admit that upon stepping into the lobby and then subsequently my room, the thought did cross my mind to go to a nice hotel. I decided to stay because I was exhausted after flight delays and kept in the back of my mind that I hadn't […] found any indication that the Eastside Lodge had cases of bed bugs in the past. If you're going to stay here, you must be willing to over look the "cheap, dated motel" feeling, set aside your high standards and settle. The price is right and I slept well, but the next time I am in Portland, I will be staying in a proper hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"No frills, but comfortable, quiet & helpful staff"
It's been said before, but if you understand that with a motel like this - in this location, and at this price - you get what you pay for, you'll enjoy your stay a lot. I stayed in a room with a single king size bed that was comfortable with clean sheets and blankets. It was very hot in Portland for my entire stay, and the fact that the AC in the room […] worked perfectly was crucial. The bathroom was clean, and the shower worked well, with good water pressure. The staff were a standout highlight of my stay; the man at the front desk provided me with a map of Portland, information about the different quadrants of the city (ie. SW, NW, North Portland, etc.), and really helpful advice re: bus routes and trains. Not a lot of frills - no coffee maker, but there was a mini-fridge and safe that worked. No hair dryer, but I simply asked at the front desk and they provided me with one for the duration of my stay at no charge. Great motel for students, couples, or families that are looking for a clean, practical and (fairly) quiet room. Nothing lavish, but very acceptable. Would stay again for sure. "It's Cheap and in a good location."
The wi-fi is a mess. Do not rely on it. They don't have fitted sheets so the flat ones they use end up coming loose and you will be sleeping on the mattress.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad for the price"
Pretty typical for a motel. But for the price and location, it is a great budget option. No in room coffee, just a microwave and the only coffee is in the lobby, a bit of a inconvenience. A bit older motel, and the room was a bit musty, but everything was in good order and lots of hot water. Week night was quiet but Friday and Saturday night were a […] little louder and not the best soundproofing, but again for the price I 'm not going to complain. The location was what sold me as easy walking distance to the Convention Centre and a 10 minute walk across the eastside bridge and you are in the heart of downtown with all that fantastic food and nighlife. There is a pretty decent breakfast at the Doug Fir 1/2 blk away and a great brew pub around the corner, and a couple of trendy little restaurants closeby, and thankfully no chain restaurants within sight!
