"Pass on the Bar"
This is our 5th time staying at the Hotel Rose. We sat at the bar for about 10 minutes while two employees were standing there socializing. Not an acknowledgement of our presence or even "be with you soon" First negative thing to ever happen to us at Hotel Rose. So we walked a few blocks and gave our bar money to another business

Not quite nice. Our room's AC is not working, they gave us 2 electric fans, however we were not able to sleep especially the kids..so we requested for a room transfer and still the AC did not work...good thing we are in the 5th floor and we noticed that the window is open, so we just let the fresh air came in.. tired and sleepy we slept a bit because we need to wake up early for the tour the following day.. the second night, the AC did work a little... just to cool our room...good thing there are 2 electric fans that made the room cooler...the refrigerator has problem too.. our bottled water did not get cold either...the only thing that I appreciate about this hotel is its proximity to the Pioneer Courthouse Square and nearby stores... I would not recommend this to our friends visiting Portland...there are more expensive hotels to stay worth paying for the best comfort and accommodation

Great location, but the Centralized A/C really sucked with the heatwave Portland had during our stay. Room was constantly warm, no pay-per view for night time winding down. Unfortunately will look at other hotels next time we are in town.

"Nice, but..."
Great location...walking distance to events held right across the street, and to other downtown locations...but! No AC, and the said events keep hotel quite noisy...window opens, but opens to traffic noise and walkers/reveled below. Room also on the small side...it is for location and ambiance alone that this hotel keeps just a three star rating.

"Most Decent, With a Few Issues"
We booked on Hotels.com for same-day stay. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly staff member who advised us the computers were down, and would take up to two hours to check us in. Once we finally got into our room, we discovered that the Hotels.com listing was incorrect; we booked a room with a bath tub, but found the room sorely lacking, instead only having a shower. When we brought this up with the front desk, they were kind, but stated that only 4 rooms had tubs and that the 3rd party listing was incorrect. We spoke with management about our challenges, noting that we wouldn't have selected this hotel save for the bath tub, and also noting our challenges getting into the room. We did, however, mention how friendly and kind our service at the front desk had been each time we contacted them. The manager promised that an $80 refund would be issued through Hotels.com/Expedia, but it's been a week now, and nothing has come through. These issues aside, the hotel itself had a nice aesthetic, was clean, cozy, and mostly well provisioned. The room lacked documentation on policy (such as checkout times), but we the lobby staff were available to answer questions if needed. Overall, this wasn't a negative experience, and the hotel has its charms, but if you're booking through a third party service, be sure to call ahead and make sure that the room your booking is as advertised, and that check-in time will be available as advertised.

"Overall good hotel, but not highly recommend"
My wife and I stayed for four nights vacationing in Portland. Good: the staff was very friendly, helpful, and prompt to fill requests; the hotel and room were nicely decorated, and clean; food at the restaurant (breakfast) was very tasty; it was very convenient to restaurants, bars/breweries, and shopping. Medium: The location was convenient to Portland's great mass transit, but that meant a train right outside the window (note that it did not disrupt sleep at late late hours). Bad: The mattress was horrible, it sunk in and leaned to one side and edge; the shower design is just dumb, having a small glass partition (that has a large hole for reaching the handle), which meant water went everywhere making a big mess that needed cleaned after each shower.

"Cute hotel, GREAT LOCATION, but loud and no A/C"
We stayed 1 night here for a short trip. THE LOCATION CAN'T BE BEAT!! The hotel is clean and the bright colors everywhere are really fun! The check in was fast and the pineapple cupcakes were delicious. The staff was really efficient and friendly. The valet pointed us to a great breakfast place and gave us a Portland walking map that really came in handy! Room and bathroom were very clean and modern. The bed was very comfortable! There were only 2 problems with this hotel, but they were big. #1: There was no air conditioning in the room. It was over 80 during the day so it was really stuffy in the room. Since the hotel is right next to the street, it was VERY loud when we opened the window. But they were apparently aware of the problem because there were earplugs next to the bed; and they helped a lot! #2: The rooms have ZERO sound barrier! We heard every (extremely heavy) door slamming shut on our floor. Also, there must have been some construction going on above us that was banging and slamming on the floor for hours. Although it was going on only during the day, it was annoying. All that being said, this hotel would be perfect if they could fix these only 2 problems.

"Supposed to be a nice hotel but..."
Unfortunately, the night we stayed in the hotel was a weekend, the city fair in the waterfront park was so loud and we couldnt sleep, but that was not the hotel's fault. Another thing to consider is this hotel located so close to the bridge and there are lots of people don't seem friendly, and the location isn't that safe.

"Great hotel"
Hotel rose was a wonderful boutique hotel. They accommodated an early check in for me and offered to hold my bags if they didn't have a room available. The rooms were fresh and modern and came with great added comforts such as bathrobes, slippers and all the toiletries you could need. The bed was possibly the most comfortable I've ever slept in in my life and I have slept in my fair share of hotel beds along my way. The location was a little too close to the freeway for my liking due to noise but it wasn't extremely bad and they did provide earplugs - mainly because they were doing exterior work during the day for those that needed rest at that time.

"Clean but horrible. AVOID!!"
The staff was terrible. They honestly didn't know how to help. The parking lot was full every night. How does this happen? Our room was incredibly hot the entire trip. The thermostat did not work. When we called about the issue we were told the thermostats in the rooms do not control the temp in the room. We were forced to sleep with the windows open. Unfortunately, this made it impossible to sleep due to the train running right underneath our room constantly. I would never recommend this hotel.

"Good Family hotel"
We were in town for a family reunion. The hotel is nicely decorated and the restaurant has good breakfasts. The location has both good and bad aspects. It was perfect walking location for downtown shops including Voodoo Donuts, Powell's books, yarn shops, and retail. The riverfront view room which we had was great. However, there was the Rose Festival going on in the riverfront park with bands playing until 10 PM or so, so it got a bit noisy. Probably best to check the Portland event schedule before booking a hotel on the park.

It was very hard to find parking, the front desk cann't do anything about it. The room is very small with smell. Kind mole smell. I have to open window for the whole time to stay there. Because they all sale out the room, they put us in the 2nd floor, which is the pet friendly floor. My kids have allegy for the whole night. This trip of nightmare for us. "Downtown Location and Value"
Located just off red line near waterfront park. Room very nice, clean, and bed comfortable. Minor issues were the cable service in the room and the European bedcovers. Shower set-up a bit odd (no sliding door) that yields itself to produce some water on the floor that I suspect bothers the cleaning staff more than anyone. On-site restaurant and lounge were quite nice with excellent food and drink, and priced well. Plenty of parking though we used public transportation during our stay.

"Great location, great amenities."
My wife and I had nothing but glowing things to say about our stay, with the exception of the ambient noise. You can tell the hotel has been updated from an older, motel-style build, which gives it a fun and quirky charm. However, the renovations that make the hotel aesthetically pleasing didn't translate well when it comes to sound proofing. From the vehicle noise from the parking levels underneath the building, to the rather amorous neighbors who we could hear exceedingly clearly each morning, we'd recommend ear plugs. Outside of the noise, the hotel is great. Cozy rooms, spacious bathrooms, helpful staff, and close proximity to all parts of Portland. We would consider stay there again in the future - this time packing a white noise machine.

Great location if driving and want to zip in and out of city. Hotel is on waterfront edge of Portland's sweet downtown area. Everything within walking distance. Staff super friendly and helpful. This actually my second stay at this hotel and it keeps getting better. Only problem is the key card usage to get to the rooms in the elevator works half the time and doesn't work at all from the garage so it isn't for security reasons it's just inconvenient. "Small room, view of parking lot, staff unintereste"
Hotel Rose is in an old building in downtown Portland, the room was very small and we had to turn the thermostat way down to get the room comfortable enough for us. There were several good restaurants nearby and the beautiful park and waterfront were just across the street. There are apparently quite a few homeless in Portland and we witnessed the police escorting one homeless man out of the Hotel Roses lobby while we were there. If I am ever in Portland again I might look elsewhere when choosing somewhere to stay.

"Terrible uncomfortable rooms!"
Hotel has a boiler system for heat that they turn on from 2am to 6am. They don't tell you this at check in. We arrived in our room at 10pm. It was freezing, as temp in Portland Is 40 degrees and raining. We turn on the heat and go get food. 2 hrs later we come back to an even colder room. I called the front desk. Crystal proceeded to argue with me about temperature outside. She said it was "ambient" I said it's Porland cold outside. She then offered me a space heater. So in order to be comfortable in this hotel you had to run a noisy space heater that then would roast us out at night, and house keeping would turn off. When I pay $250.00/night for a room I expect comfort. Will not ever stay here again.

"Portlandia"
The hotel was in a great location in downtown Portland. It had a funky feel and not like a typical chain hotel. They advertise that they have bikes to use, but by 8 a.m. on a Wednesday they were all taken. We were told by the front desk that they used to have 10 bikes and now they only had six (I think the other 4 were stolen). Never the less, the front desk made some recommendations to rent bikes. The amenities in the room could have been better, for instance we had to search for napkins, figure out the t.v. channels, etc. but overall it was great and I would definitely stay there again.

Seemed like a hip cool hotel downtown. Location is good. But, the rooms are noisy, the bedding choice is bizarre. Two twin duvets on a king size bed doesn't work Difficult to sleep with traffic noise (they do provide earplugs in the room).
