"San Fran stay"
The hotel has a charming old Victorian feel. Good staff and clean room. Gets warm but does have a portable fan you can plug in to use, this helps a lot. Breakfast was basic.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel near union square"
Room clean , cozy. Location perfect! Not many ' modern amenities' ( no in room coffee, not many stations on the tv) but location more than made up for it. Nice continental breakfast and courteous staff makes the place a winner in my book!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant hotel close to public transportation"
Highly recommended. Reasonable rates, friendly staff, pleasant rooms, excellent location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"good location but..."
European Charm gone bad...very small rooms, one person stay would be okay but with two twins beds and two adults, could not open a suitcase or move around..the room smelled old and humid, no ac, no wi-fi in room, old tv, but yet the doors had very expensive new room key opening system...would not recommend itGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel for short stay"
Great location, friendly staff. The hotel is just few blocks from the Union Sq. however, some renovation is required. This hotel is a good option for short few days stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cute boutique hotel, but not worth the price"
I thought it was a cute looking hotel that had an old charm about it in a great location. Plus the White Horse Tavern attached was awesome! Main problem I had with this hotel is the fact that the mattress we had was so worn down in the middle that my husband and i kept sliding back into the middle of it. Also the walls were paper thin so we heard EVERYTHING. […] There was also no AC controller in the room. Instead they had large boxy noisy fans. Yes it was a good deal but i know now why it was so cheap Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a fine stay. Nothing grand or underwhelming. Rooms are reasonably priced for the City of San Francisco. The rooms are European style, small and sufficient. It's in a great location to easily access everything in the City.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Beresford hotel is perfectly located near Union Square. My room was quiet and clean and reasonably priced for San Francisco. I would certainly enjoy returning to this hotel in the future.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A disappointing visit"
One of my two shower doors would not open. I reported it to the front desk my first morning and then was gone the rest of the day. That evening I found that it had not been repaired. The night clerk put in another request for the next day. At the end of the next day, it had again not been repaired. When I checked out, the gentleman who originally taken […] my order tried to tell me that the repairman said there was nothing wrong with the bathroom door. I said that I didn't say it was the bathroom door, rather the shower door. The room was cold and no way to turn on heat. There was an old radiator without instructions on how to use it...or even if it works. I'll not be back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Charm and Great location"
The Beresford is an older hotel, but well maintained. The rooms were clean and charming and the location is excellent to get to many sights. It is only a couple of blocks from Union Square where you can catch a "Hop on Hop Off" bus and the trolley is even closer.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good for couples, singles and tourists."
Staff was helpful and pleasant. Temperature in room was uneven. Last night was too warm with no way to turn it down.Genuine Expedia guest review
Disappointed that no internet service is available in the rooms. Must go to lobby and even then it wasn't very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"This hotel has an old European feel"
I was concerned at first. The lobby, although it had quaint furniture and chandeliers which brought to mind many older European hotels I've visited, sort of lost credibility points with the chaos and disrepair of the front desk. With it's completely visible inner workings, casually dressed staff and beat up mail cubicles, it gave the distinct impression […] of an SRO or transient - cash only type of motel. So I went to my room with a bad attitude. (But don't stop reading yet). I saw the room as creepy because of the older furniture, and lack of puffy white duvet I've been seeing in the more modernly designed hotels. But after awhile, I just took it for what it was. It's an older hotel. Not part of a big chain and it was actually just fine. It was clean and comfortable. The staff were actually very nice. The elevator was always available and got me to the top floor incredibly fast. The toiletries were very nice. The mini bar was the least expensive in San Francisco, the location was good, the hotel was quiet. All in all, I can't say I have any complaints. I just had an odd initial reaction. Once again, it's not a modern chain so it doesn't have new flat screen tvs with all the cable channels, and jet tubs. In fact it only had a stall shower. But it was clean and bug free and in a good location. I would recommend it if you get a good price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed this hotel. It is clean and well kept up. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated. The breakfast location has an old world charm about it, as well as the whole hotel. The breakfast was one of the best continental breakfasts we've had. The man at the front desk seemed hurried and not very welcoming. Otherwise the service was excellent. […] The porter was very nice and welcoming, as well as pleasant conversations we had with maids. We plan to go back to this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"San Francisco Motel in Financial District"
I stayed at this motel for 5 days while attending a business conference.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean, cheap and in Downtown"
Clean and comfortable rooms. Very good trade off between price and position!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Continental breakfast v good...fresh croissants ev morning, good coffee. Room v small, but adequate. Very noisy at night. We were on third floor, facing street and over bar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice respite among high rise hotels"
the staff was great. only minus was lack of fruit at breakfast. but it was great to find a place that even included breakfast! Plus two nice quiet rooms in which to work with computers and printers provided! the bar opened at 5pm each evening & also offered a quiet and inexpensive way to wind down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrible hotel close to Union Sq."
Dirty room. Poor breakfast. Unpolite hotel staff. I will never come back. Smell and noise in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Excellent for the price"
We stayed here for a long weekend, and it was perfect for our needs. It was clean, the staff was fantastic and the location is great. It is not an elegant hotel but the price reflects that. The room was small (as most older big city hotel rooms are),but the price was good and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location and price excellent"
I was pleasantly surprised given the reasonable rate. Room(2 doubles) was small but the bed was comfy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Couldn't get better for the price"
this hotel is not brand new, but everything is clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a great location, and bar and breakfast (thought light) was a great touch. Internet on first floor only, but that worked for me. The rooms are small but comfortable. Has a bit of a community feel like a hostel, but with adults instead of 18-22 […] year olds (though there are some of those too). Plug-ins are a little scarce. i stayed here b/c it was half the cost of surrounding hotels in the area. Great hotel for the price -- I would absolutely recommend it and would absolutely stay again. "good hotel for the money"
I usually stay at the Hilton but my daughter lives across the street from the Beresford and thought it would be easier. Having traveled throughout Europe I am used to smaller hotels and you pretty much get what you pay for. I was quite surprised how clean and comfortable it was, the staff were very nice and so helpful, not only with me but I noticed […] with other guests. "Easy access to enjoyable SF"
Our reception was friendly and professional, the staff was helpful, the location was wonderful for shopping, dining and all transportation. The Beresford is a well priced no frills hotel to base out of.I have stayed there as a single and recommend it.My only wish is that wi-fi extended to the upper floors. The first floor has wi-fi and several nice rooms […] to relax and communicate on the net...just not in your jammies! the wireless didn't work, and my cell phone didn't have service in my tiny room. it hasn't been updated in decades, and the window neither closed nor opened, and overlooked a building that was a few feet away. Definitely did not match what was advertised.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very clean rooms good location very frendly staff willing to make our stay very pleasentGenuine Expedia guest review
Near chinatown, union square, cable cars, grace cathedral, nob hill, downtown, and the shops like nordstrom, bloomingdales, neiman marcus, macys, tiffany, dior, etc. You can take the cable cars ono block from the hotel to fisherman's wharf. Excellent ubicationGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not for the price"
It's an older hotel in Union Square. For the price, I expected at least a fan in the room; however, we had to ask for a fan due to the heat and stuffiness of the room. The bathroom had a horrible patch job done behind the mirror and the furniture was old a very very worn. I would not stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful location at a gr!eat price"
I have stayed at the Beresford lots of times. It is in a great location for meetings, with shopping. I think of the Beresford as a European tourist hotel. It's quiet, filled with a mix of younger to older tourists. It's modest but very comfortable, good beds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Convenient to Cable Car and Metro Transit. Room was clean, comfortable. Could open windows for fresh air. Neighborhood was noisy, but as expected for the area. Walking distance to many restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good inner city budget hotel."
Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Location is great - just a couple of blocks from Union Square. Just about what we would expect from an older, budget-rated, downtown hotel. We choose a hotel for location and price. We want a clean room and bathroom, and got that here. We don't plan to spend much time in the room except for sleeping, so the […] Beresford nicely met our needs. The "breakfast" room was dimly lit and pretty dingy - suggest they pay more attention to keeping it up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Beresford was perfect! Excellent location, great service, clean rooms, fantastic value. Will definitely stay at this location on future trips to San Fran!! Wish I had known about this hotel years ago - 2 blocks from cable car stop and major shopping.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A wonderful Hotel! An extremely a cute room!"
Our stay was beyond great! I will definitely be coming back! :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the beresford is the perfect san francisco experience for a quick stay at a great rate. Rooms are small and quiet and close to the square with a very cozy bar in the hotel. Mostly out of the country tourist staying at the hotel, which makes the experience nicer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old and dilapidated does not mean Cozy and Unique"
This hotel has an excellent location but is in dire need of repairs, and the service at the front desk needs improvement. I am not sure when ripped wallpaper, broken beds, and mis-matched furniture became the definition of cozy and unique. but this hotel's best feature is the location...which it shares with many other hotels. I have stayed at many hotels […] in the Union Square area (Sir Francis Drake, Westin St. Francis, Handlery, Marriott, Nikko) but we chose this one based on the pictures and because the others were booked due to a convention. for the price, this was terrible. The issues were numerous, but the most outstanding were how poorly the room was. I knew it would be small....that is fine, but the TV remote didn't work, the shower head didn't work, the bed literally sloped to one side and was badly broken, the wall paper was ripped on the bathroom, and no two pieces of furniture matched in the room. IT looked like it was assembled at a garage sale! The staff at the front desk barely speak English, which was trouble for some of the guests from England that we witnessed trying to get help. "Good value, great downtown location"
Good experience overall, but try to stay away from the upper floor rooms in the back, as you will hear a fairly significant roar from the air handling units on adjacent buildings. Transportation to and from the airport is reasonable and reliable if you don't have a car. Note the parking charge at this hotel if you do have a car...it will cost more than […] the shuttle. Quaint but with modern ammenities. Great location close to Union Square.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Without exception, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room smelled good. I can't think of the last time I remember "smelling" a hotel room. At least, smelling a good smell. lol And it was very clean. We used public transportation and the hotel had easy access to the buses, the streetcars and the cable cars.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room and bathroom were exceedingly small, otherwise it was agreat experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very neat hotel"
This is a very neat hotel in the financial district with a light continental breakfast. I had stayed there before, and came back because I liked it and its neighborhood. Found that they upgraded the bathroom from shower curtains to shower doors, and liked it even more.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location to restaurants and Union Square as well as Moscone Convention center. Like to have in room refridgerator.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Cheap hotel for mediocre quality. WiFi was not available in the entire hotel, so you had to find a hot spot most of the time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"European old world charm"
This European style hotel. is spotlessly clean, has a fantastic location and is a great place to stay. If it's American modern you want stay away. If it's old-world charm this hotel is where you want to be. It has all the basics and none of the bells and whistles.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was you get what you pay for. It was clean, the staff very helpful, the continential breakfast was basically non existant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
